Converting iTunes music to mp3

I know that there are a lot of converters out there and many are free. I am new to the Mac world and I am wondering what programs are best, easy to use, or can be used with other Mac software? If you have any please let me know. I'd prefer free but will purchase if I have to so I can avoid virus, etc.
Thanks

You can do it perfectly well in iTunes.
1. Go to iTunes Preferences>General and click the 'Import settings' button.
2. Choose 'MP3 Encoder' in the 'Import Settings' menu and use the 'Settings' menu to choose your bitrate as required.
3. Go to your Library and select the files you want to convert.
4. From the 'Advanced' menus choose 'Create MP3 version'
Duplicate copies of the files will be created. You can drag these to the Desktop or a folder if you want to export them, and delete either these or the AAC versions as required in iTunes (note that you have to specifiy to remove them from the Library or they will remain on the hard disk though not visible in the Library display).
Note that this Preference setting also affects the format of files ripped from a CD.

  • Converting iTunes music to MP3 format

I am attempting to add music to a video I have created using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0. Unfortunately, most of the music in iTunes is not of the correct format (MP3) and I don't know how to convert it if it is even possible.

I think i understand what you are saying. Burn the song(s) into an empty disk. Then either import that cd to another music player(such as windows media player) and use it fromt here, or put the songs directly from your new cd to your video. When you import a song into itunes, itunes automatically converts the file into ipod compatible. This is why it is in thw wrong format. Hope that wasnt too confusing.

  • Converting iTunes music to MP3 and/or WMA format

Have a bunch of music (99% of which was originally loaded from my CD library) in iTunes on my Laptop.  I periodically sync that with my iPod Touch 3rd Gen.  Question:  Can a portion of this music be converted from iTunes to MP3 or WMA format?  My car can play music from an SDHC Card but the format has to be one or the other only.  How do I achieve this?  Your time and specific suggestions/solutions are very much appreciated.

    Hey Ed2345;
Followed the instructions to convert songs to MP3.  Quite cumbersome.  You would think Apple would have detailed instructions on how to keep the different formated songs separated, filed or whatever would be best to manage them.  Not sure if I need to create a separate playlist for them or library and how?  I tried to export a playlist of 16 converted songs to an SDHC card.  Thought I did but when I put it into the car stereo, nothing happens!  Wow, I may as well give up.  Would you be so kind as to possibly help?  Your time and efforts appreciated.  Joe
    Gruntvet,
After the conversions have completed, put your Music library in Songs view, and sort by "Date Added."  All of your newly created MP3s will be together at the top.
From there, you can just drag them to the SD card.

  • Converting iTunes music to MP3 or another format

I puchased an iTunes Plus song from the store. The iTunes help says it can be converted by choosing Edit > Preferences, click Advanced and clicking Importing. Unforunately I don't have an Importing tab on my iTunes. I am running the latest version of iTunes (8.0.2) per the Check for Updates function. Any ideas as to how to convert to another format?

The article is outdated and has not been updated.
In iTunes 7, *Import Settings* were on the Advanced tab.
In iTunes 8, *Import Settings* were moved to the General tab and click the *Import Settings* button.
Once you change the *Import Settings* on the General tab, select the songs you want to convert.
Then as noted, right click on the songs and select *Create MP3 version*. Or go to the iTunes menu Advanced and select *Create MP3 version*.

Is it possible to export Itunes music to MP3 files? If so, what is the process to do this from Itunes. Thanks.

I thought that was for importing?
It's not just for importing. The import setting controls the format available for the convert option. Once converted, move the MP3 files as needed; their location can be found by right-clicking them.

  • Convert itunes files to mp3

Help please, how do i convert itunes files to mp3 format. i purchased a hp notebook and it has itunes and windows xp home. i have always used windows media player and am new to itunes. do i have to go back to media player or can itunes do the conversion?

The only conversion I've done is wma to mp3. To do this just simply import them they way you would any other song file. It will tell you that there are song files your trying to import that iTunes isn't compatable with and ask if you want to convert them to mp3 format. Just click yes and iTunes will make an mp3 of the respective songs. The wma's will still be there so if you want to get rid of them you'll have to delete them manually. The only downside is the conversion makes the file larger so it'll take up more space on your hard drive, but you'll be able to listen to it on your iPod.
As for iTunes purchased music StarDeb is right. Go out and buy the album then rip it onto your hard drive. At least then if your drive crashes you'll always have a backup.

Only by burning the files to an audio CD and then ripping that back into iTunes.

  • Why can't i convert itunes into an mp3 format?

I looked on Apple's website for information on how to convert itunes into a mp3 format on your windows pc. I followed each step. I clicked on Edit and Preferences and set it to Mp3 converter. I then selected the songs I wanted to convert into. Then I clicked Advanced. When I clicked Advanced, it showed "Create Mp3 Version" but it was grayed out. And i was unable to click it. I do not know if I did something wrong or..? Please help me out with this situation because I really want to convert it to an Mp3 format to post it on a website. Thanks.

It doesn't work if you simply open it in a browser tab. When you download it and open in an Adobe window you will be able to click on it and type your information in the spaces provided.

  • Convert iTunes m4p to mp3 - legally strip DRM?

So, I bought some songs off iTunes that are DRM protected (m4p) back when iTunes was using the DRM protection. Now they don't. Is there any way to freely and easily convert the songs I did buy when that was happening to mp3 so I can use and play them elsewhere like in the cloud or on my phone, etc?

which is why I said "legal"
it really lame to have bought some iTunes music, years later want to move it to more modern and devleoping methods of listening - something other than an iPod essentially - and I cannot. I DID pay for it afterall.
And techinally speaking, I have always understood that for private & personal use you can legallly strip any DRM out. As long as you do not sell it or give it out or disseminate it, you should be good to go for personal use. Again, I did buy it and pay for it - just like I did buy and pay for music since then that is not DRM protected - so should be able to put it on any music device I see fit... and I cannot. Thus, I think what I am asking for is not illegal, bad, or breaks any rules.

  • Converting iTunes (m4a) to mp3 or wav

I have a fairly extensive iTunes library which I sync with my iPod Nano 2. My daughter has just been given an mp3 player for her birthday and I'm trying to find a simple way of exporting & converting tracks for her to either mp3 or WAV format without losing my m4a. Any ideas short of burning original to CD then re-importing under her account (where import of CD's is set to mp3)?
I have managed to open an iTunes track as m4a within Quicktime and save as a wav file, but the file size went from 2.6 MB to 11.7 MB - not very practical.
    Cheers, Andy

If the file is an .m4p then it is DRM protected and you can only burn is as an audio CD - you can figure out the rest.
If the file is a .m4a - no DRM - then you should be able to convert it to an mp3 within iTunes. Change your iTunes import options prefs.

  • Coverting Itunes music to MP3

I have bought a CD and a few individual songs from Itunes music store. Now I want to use them in my MusicMatch player with many other MP3 songs I have. I have tried everything but have been unable to do this.
Can anyone help this old man?

As you have discovered, your purchases contain DRM on the files which prevents a direct format change. What you can do is burn your purchase to an audio CD, that audio CD can be used in the same ways that you would use any CD you might purchase at your local store.

  • How to convert itunes mp4 to mp3

how to convert itunes mp4 to mp3

So I'm being exact. You cannot "convert" a video file (with audio), to audio only.
You can extract the audio, or record the audio into an audio programme etc. as a way of obtaining the audio only. But convert... no.
I answered the question. I also asked the OP to give further information, so that we could possibly provide a suitable solution. After all, as lllaass has suggested, perhaps the OP wants to make a ringtone.

  • Converting itunes musice and videos to mp3

I want to get music and videos out to play on my computer...not thru itunes....what kind of conversion software is best? Is Quicktime pro the way to go???

You can burn purchased music on Audio CD and you can import Audio CDs in whichever format iTunes supports (e.g. MP3).
    That's the only workaround.
    Hope this helps.
