What is the problem?, what to do?

The Griffin iMic (RCA phono - USB) has a good quality DAC in it - if used with the free software Audacity, that is one solution used by many in your position.
Try to avoid the specialist turntables with USB outputs - they are not high quality turntables and you will want a good source for your vinyl. You will also need some kind of pre-amp as magnetic cartridges have a much lower (not sure of the term - impedance?) than most types of audio source and the output requires boosting.

I have old CDs, I have new CDs and I have a relatively new MacBook Pro (3 years old) running current software on 10.9.4 OSX Mavericks. My updates are good on my iTunes but it won't let me import ANY CDs that I OWN! Is this the new Apple and it's iTunes update?
Can we not legally put our CDs onto our phones or iPad/iPods any longer? Must I go garage sale-ing for a personal CD player? The code reads; "Error occured while converting the file track #1 the required disk can't be found". My cd drive is fine btw. It reads and shows on my desktop and will also play when I double click the CD icon and play the .aiff file.

I kind of have the suspicion if you were no longer allowed to put CDs on iPods it would be front page news, not something you alone would discover. Anyway, there would probably be a clear message to that effect rather than a technical error message. I would take the technical problem route first rather than suspect you have been targeted for persecution.
Have you restarted iTunes? Have you tried restarting your computer?
Personally I prefer third party rippers such as XLD and Max and you could certainly try one of those to at least isolate the issue to iTunes.

I have an ISP provider for a more modern computer that I own, but I really would like to use my old IMAC on the internet as well? How can I make it compatible with high speed internet? If I try to go on line, the internal modem "dials up". How can I change that and cause it to communicate with my external high speed modem?

Importing problems have been rife in the recent iTunes release.
Not sure how to solve your problem, but until a solution comes along feel free to rip in another program, such as Windows Media Player, and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.

As part of my upgrade from WinXP to Win7 on a replacement PC, I have purchased the new version of Elements, having used PSE8 for years. The handbook for my new PSE12 gives incredibly brief instructions (on P7). After PSE12 installation, it automatically offers to convert the old Catalog. I have followed that through the conversion, but then I can't get the converted Catalog back! What am I doing wrong?

So, you changed not only your OS and PSE version, but you also changed the computer? In that case a catalog conversion won't restore your image files. That only works if your changes take place on the same computer.
You'll have to follow this procedure:
Use Backup, Restore to move catalog | Organizer | Elements 6 or later
And come back for any additional advice.

How do I perminantly delete old tracks???

Move them to the trash.
Usually you should save all your projects including all your audio/EXS etc. files in a seperate project folder. This way you cannot loose data when you delete other project folders.
When you are not sure if your project folders include all the necessary files I suggest to open each project you want to keep and save it with "save as" to another harddrive. In the save dialogue box chosse "including all audio files" and depending on your projects also "include exs files" etc.
This way you can make sure that you do not loose data which you still need.
But: Be careful when you have used "melodyne" for example or other software which by default creates files in different folders (there is a dedicated folder in the library) than the project folder. Then its a bit more complicated because you would have to move all these files manually to your new harddisc and specify the location when you open your project the next time.

My sync key used to be 12 characters, no dashes (xxxxxxxxxxxx). After uninstalling and reinstalling FF 3.6.13, Sync 1.6.1 refuses my 12 character sync key.
I discovered, that sync keys for all users have been switched to 31 characters including 5 dashes (x-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx). How do I get the new sync key?
I have no PCs connected to Firefox Sync anymore but Firefox Home and 360 Browser on my iPhone sync successfully. Unfortunately on the iPhone I cannot display the currently used sync key. Is there a way to convert the old sync key to the new one?

I had the exact same symptoms you did. Here's my solution:
I installed an older version of firefox sync (1.4.something, I think) and then added my account using my old short firefox sync key. When trying to sync, the outdated addon said that in order to perform the sync, it needed to be updated. After updating, I was still signed in, but now had the added feature of seeing my new long firefox sync key which was compatible with FF 4b, etc. Everything is working smoothly now and my computer is syncing correctly.

It’s worth mentioning that this results in a loss of sound quality. If you’re listening on the earbuds that came with your iPod, or on a car stereo, you probably won’t hear any difference, but if you're using really good headphones or speakers, it is likely that you will.
Depending on your listening situation and the number of tracks you need to convert, you may decide that you prefer to simply re-import the CDs in question as MP3s.

Converting/capturing old analogue tapes to digital

Can someone please outline the options and best way to convert my old tapes to digital. I have a new digital video camera and no longer use the old 8mm camera so I would like to convert the old video to digital so I can edit it and generally maintain it all in the same format, we never get to watch the old stuff. I am using the EyeTV Hybrid from ElGato. It works great for VHS. It should work for you too if your analog camcorder has either RCA jacks out (red, white, yellow) or coax cable out.
You first capture the video from analog to Mpeg2 using the EyeTV hybrid. Then you export from EyeTV in DV format so that iMovie can edit it.

Sorry, but your intentions here aren't clear.
Do you have two mono signals on one stereo track, or are you talking about two separate mono tracks that should be stereo, and you want them as a single stereo track?
With the latter, open one file and copy it to the clipboard. Open the other file, and use Edit>Convert Sample Type to convert it to 'stereo' (really dual mono). Select just the side you want to replace, highlight it and hit Delete - this should leave your original file on one channel, and nothing on the other. Place the cursor at the start of the empty section and paste the clipboard contents here. Save the result. You now have a stereo file.
If you have a dual mono file and you want some stereo ambience on it, then have a look at SHEPPi. This does a remarkably good job of that on mono files!
There are several other ways of doing file combining - you could do it quite easily in Multitrack mode, and there are also some utilities around that will do it directly for you - although you could easily be forgiven for being completely unaware of them, because generally they are used for reorganising multi-channel Broadcast Wav files, and don't show up using a simple search term.

I have audio from both microphone and microport, so one is not enough. Furthermore it must be a pro tool, so I don't loose imagequality.

select use as new phone if you want it blanked out.... and select restore from backup if you want it to go back to a previous state.
with the original sim that was in there it will eventually drop the "waiting for activation" messages and will just say No Service... at least thats what mine did

If you when you say you still have No Service you are referring to the cellular connection on your old iPhone 3gs you shouldn't have one if you are trying to use it as just an iPod. I suspect either you removed the Sim or the Sim is inactive. Beware that most cell phones even though the Sim is removed or is inactive will still make emergency calls.
