Converting .mod files and starting a new project
Hi all
I have just purchased Premiere Pro CS5 which is an upgrade from Elements 4 for me. I just want to make sure I'm moving in the right direction as I'm not really technically savvy and am still trying to get my head around all the terms, differences etc.
Basically I have a JVC Everio which gives me .mod files. I have downloaded MPEG Streamclip as per recommendation on this and previous forums. I want to make sure
Should I be converting .mod files to .avi or should I be converting to a different format?
I have recorded my video in widescreen and want to make video watchable on Australian TV. When I use MPEG streamclip it offers me a plethera of choice which confuses me. At the moment I have selected the following:
When I first select the Mod file I'm given an option to choose a task. I have selected "Export to AVI".
NB: I also have the choice to "Convert to MPEG with MP2 Audio" and "Export to DV" plus a number of other options with terminology which doesn't look familiar at all. Thought it best to stay away from these ones!
Once I have selected "Export to AVI" do I select "Fix timecode breaks"? I'm not sure what this means.

Scan Mode = Interlaced
Aspect Ratio = 16:9

MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, kHz=Auto, 256 kbps
Frame Size
do I select "1024 x 576 (16:9)" or "720x 576 (DV-Pal)", there are other options which I can list if you need the information
Frame Rate
This has been left blank and I have not selected "Frame Blending" or "Better Downscaling"
Deselect for progressive movies
I have Interlaced scaling and Reinterlace Chroma selected but deinterlace video remains unticked
Field Dominance
Lower Field First
Once all my files are converted and I open Premiere Pro CS5 what settings should I be selecting for the best output to DVD for Australian television? I get so confused with all the options!!

no conversion at all, i just changed the file extension by typing it as .mpg, thats all.
when you import the clip, if it is 16x9 you have to interpret it... when you import it rightclick the file and choose this...
then this...
(or just set it up how it should be set up, if teh PAR is different from mine shown, but you get the idea)
but here's a fun one. i was messing around with cs5.5, and low and behold... it edits .mod natively now! guess adobe finally got enough people beating the door down. now i really need to update... but i may just hold out for cs6... decisions....

Project Manager will not collect all files and Start a Complete New Project
As editor of several projects consisting of multiple terrabytes of footage, it's very important to me to be able to use the project manager to collect all files and start a new project. However, this is not happening!! After I've completely finished a project I should be able to save a new "trimmed" project in the desired location of choice. When I use this feature with PrPro CS 4.2.1 - I only get a partial trimmed project that when opened asks where are the missing files. I've also tried using the project manager to collect all files and move to a new location. Again, only a part of my project is being moved!!!! Earlier versions of the PpPro had no problems with this function. I've got two systems and both of them are identical in actions. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
BBTvHow can one do that if each project has thousands of pieces of video, text templates, music scores, photoshop documents, after effect files and so on? The number of different folders per project is almost mind boggling. Any help at all in a quick fix or update or anything would be greatly appreciated. I don't have any problem with my other editing programs and have run earlier versions of PrPro that had no problems with collecting all the files within a project and exporting them to a new location throught project manager either in trimmed or full projects. I really hate to have to start using Final Cut again because of such an easy issue. I know I'm overlooking something and any help would be greatly appreciated.

iMovie 11 is not working. I try to open it and it says it is generating thumbnails for one of my previous projects. All the commands are gray. I have to force it to quit. I just want to capture clips to start a new project. I googled the problem and there were discussions about deleting files in various folders and renaming clip extensions. I don't like the solutions I saw there and I am not sure they will work.
Nobody replied so I called Apple. They seemed to think they could fix the problem but I had to agree to pay about $20 first. I told them to put it down as a complaint. I only want to use the software I bought. I can't see that it is my fault it is malfunctioning. I guess I will have to pay. It doesn't seem right.

Can iTunes convert a file and replace the old file with the new one?
I am trying to convert my wav files to Apple Lossless to save some space. How can I convert the files and make them replace the old files? Right now it just converts new files so that I end up with two files. I have thousands I want to convert and just replace the old ones.
I have an external program that will do it for me, however if I go that route then when my ITunes files are converted to lossless files I need to re-link the files as they show up with the ! showing they are missing. That would mean manually re-linking every song, which would take forever unless there is a way to mass re-link all the files.iTunes does not see the newly created files as the same file because they are not the same file. They are new, different files. If you have a track that is 1234.wav and you create 1234.mp3 it simply isn't the same file and you can't trick iTunes into thinking it is. iTunes will handle it as a brand new file.
Check Dougscripts web site for scripts which help modifying tag data. However, I suspect you won't find any doing exactly what you want doing. Some tag data are only accessible by iTunes itself.
As for playlists, there's things you can try though they may be more effort than they are worth. For example, you could add a special code for each playlist to some element of a tag (e.g., grouping). Convert the file, then make a smart playlist selecting for the code you added to the group of tracks in the old playlist. If you have hundreds of playlists with a dozen tracks each this will be a grand nuisance. If it is a handful of playlists with hundreds of tracks each this might be worth it.
Another way to preserve playlists would be to edit the .xml copy of the iTunes library file, replacing ".wav" with ".mp3" or whatever format you are using. However, this won't help with play counts because that is only stored in the .itl copy of the file which you cannot edit. -

Blackmagic 4K media working in 4K sequences.
In my current project, I've been experiencing very strange crashes upon launching PP. Before ending my work for the day, I usually save my current project manually, and then do a "Save As" with tomorrow's date at the end, (projectname_2014-12-02) so I have a fresh copy to begin the next day and still have yesterday's as a backup. I then quit PP as normal. No issues. In other words, it closes just fine without any crashing or odd behavior.
In the last week, a rather annoying issue has presented itself. Once in a while, that new project that I created with Save As, will not open. I opens to the point when I can see my bins and my timeline, but as I would expect it to begin propagating the timeline with media, I get the spinning beach ball. I can wait for hours, and the project never loads. I can go back to yesterdays project and open it just fine, but any project saved with Save As, very often seems to be corrupted.
Except, that I can open it up fine on another machine. So it's not really corrupted. And it doesn't happen every time. Just most of the time in the last week or two.
I've done the following troubleshooting several times. Restarted the computer. Repair disk permissions. Launch PP with the option key to clear preferences. Cleaned the media database. Tried launching the project with all media offline. Uninstalled and reinstalled PP. Booted from USB OS install drive and repaired permissions, repaired HD, and even reinstalled the OS (not a clean install, just over the top of the previous one).
Once a Save As project won't open, it's done and I have to go back to yesterday's project.
Now here's where it gets really weird. If I create a new project, and import one of the "won't open" projects, not just a sequence, but the whole project, it's fine. Which of course isn't entirely surprising.
What *is* surprising is that after I save and close that new project with the old imported project in it, I can now go back and open all of the projects that would freeze on opening just minutes earlier.
Everything is right as rain again. I'm glad I have a work around, but it's a little unnerving and random, not to mention time lost troubleshooting this bizarre one.

DURIM - Okay. I would expect the "Cache Warning" message because your default directories would not be the same as the ones in the settings file I generated.
If you go back to the "7.0" directory and open the "Logs" folder, can you copy the "Audition Log.txt" file and send it as an attachment to [email protected]? We'll take a look in that logfile and see if it gives us more information about why this is failing now.
Also, do you have any other Adobe applications installed on this machine, such as Premiere Pro? If so, do they launch as expected or fail as well?
I do have the trial Pro version of Adobe reader, but I have not activated it, because I fear the same thing will happen did it. I cannot afford to activate the subscription for that product and take the chance of it not working either. I depend on those two programs religiously. Here is the files that you requested. Prior to today, when I clicked on the "+" a new tab would open. It no longer does that. However, when I open File and click on "New Tab" it opens just fine. I do not have the Ask Toolbar as far as I know (this was mentioned as a problem previously). What can be done to fix this? Thank you.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Started PE12 but when i click Video Editor and then select New Project the button shows the purple and black lines for about a minute and then stops and nothing happens

It is late where I am so I will give you some things to work on.
Premiere Elements does not fare well with 2 video cards/graphics cards. Have you disabled the Intel and observed the consequences?
Determine if the problem is there with and without the antivirus disabled.

in the Premiere Elements Folder will be one file and some folders. You do not want the folders or what is in them. You want that file which is the BadDrivers.txt file. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path shown. Be aware that after you open the program again after the file deletion, the program will generate a new BadDrivers.txt file but by that time the problem should be gone (hopefully).

and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists.

How stopping a version and start a new one from the previous

May be someone could help me to erase my basics questions on Robosource control.
We have to manage several versions of our product documentation and It is not clear how it is managed by robosource control. The documentation tells what can do RBSC (and it seems to be what we need) but they do not explain how to do it (prerequisites, ordered steps, etc), and I do not really succeeded. May be I missed the basics.
All our projects are added to Robosource control 3 from RoboHelp7 Html from a local directory.
In the database, we inserted them in a directory corresponding to a version V01.r01.
I would like to stop this version and start a new one V01.02 with the projects which are V01.01. What is the best way to do this:
Do I just label the directory V01.01 and "Pin" it ? In that way how can I recover all the projects and files that were labelled and pinned for version V01.01, if I need them later ?
Copy and rename directory V01.01 into V01.02 to continue the file modifications without modifiying the same project in V01.01?
My questions are quite similar to Kristen's questions.

How do I convert AAC files and put them on my SD card

I'm trying to convert some of my itunes track unto my sd card and then play them with my zen. ? The problem is I can't figure out how to get zen media explorer to put the converted files on my sd card. Does anyone know how to overcome this problem? Why not? Because it isn't really possible. The internal memory of the Zen and the SD card contents are completely distinct storage areas and are not simultaneously visible to the host computer. You either have the Zen in MTP mode where you can interact with the internal memory or you have the Zen in Removable Disk mode where you can interact with the SD(HC) card. It is an either-or proposition. So you must (a) convert your music files to a location on your host computer, (b) put the Zen into Removable Disk mode, (c) transfer the converted files to the SD card and then (d) restore the Zen to MTP mode (where you can use the Memory Card menu items to browse/play the files).
I suppose I could pull back on the "not possible" part a bit since a stand-alone audio converter should allow you to set a user-specified output folder. As such you could put the Zen into Removable Disk mode first and then configure the converter to send files to the approriate folder on whatever dri've letter the SD card gets mapped to.

I have a problem with elements 8. When ever I start a new project, the program searches for the old, latest used filmmaterial, I have used before. That means, if I use a different DVD, it take so much time, until the program starts. So how can I stopp the automatically uploading of old material?

Adobe Premiere Elements Won't Start A New Project?
When I open up Premiere Elements and try to start a new project, all it shows is a black and purple line, then it just stops. I have already tried updating QuickTime, Windows 7, Nvidia Drivers, and Uninstalling and then Reinstalling Premiere elements. I am running it on a PC that has an AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six Core Proccessor, 8 GB of RAM, a Nvidia G-Force GTX 650, and i installed the program on a secondary hard drive with 761 GB of free space.

What is this "secondary hard drive" on which you originally installed Premiere Elements 12? Internal or external and how formatted NTSC or FAT32?
I do not see where anyone has asked about "Scratch Disks" as they relate to your issues?
Please refer to Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks...
a. Where are the scratch disks directed and how much free hard drive space is at that location?
b. Do you have all the scratch disks categories directed to the same place? If not, do so and make sure there is lots of free hard drive space where you are pointing them to.
Please look for pile ups of preview files in the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder and pile ups of conformed audio in the Media Cache Folder. Both these folders by default are in Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0.
Please go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Media and hit the Clean button in the Media Cache Database in that area.

Yes you can install Premiere Elements on any other drive. For that you need to follow these steps:
1. Uninstall current copy of Premiere Elements.
2. Start the installer of Premiere ELements.
3. Choose a location on d:\ drive after choosing the default TV format.
Please keep in mind, even if you select d: drive as the install location some amount of data will get copied to C: drive.

IVerio for converting MOD files??

I have been looking through this forum up and down for decent suggestions regarding MOD files from a newly purchased JVC Everio camcorder. I am using iMovie6 and MOD files will not work the conventional way like miniDV etc. Should've bought a DV camera but too late now!
The problem I see is that while there are many programs that will convert MOD files for use in iMovie 6, it seems the quality of the finished video clip is not very good. I have searched and found a program called iVerio. I have tested it (free trial) and it seems pretty good - quality not lost too much, although some of the feedback from some users leave me with a doubt of how good it really is? Before parting with $60 (AUST) I would be interested if anyone has used this program and how they found the results?
All in all, my real problem is finding a good program to convert and use MOD file for iMovie 6 without losing the video quality. Is there a newer version of iMovie that recognizes MOD files? This would be the perfect way - saving all the converting etc.

Johnthanks but i have checked out my camera model with imovie 8 and 9 and it's not named, so it may not be compatible. although if the mod files on on the computer, will they just be able to import to imovie? instead of going from the camera to imovie direct.
also the program choices are fine to convert files i have now but the quality seems to affect the movies, iverio seems ok just wanted to know if anyone else has used this or a similar program that won;t affect this quality.
