Converting .mov to .wmv

Does anyone know how to convert a quicktime .mov file to play on a windows media player? What file type should I convert to: wmv, avi, asf? Thanks in advance

If it's cutting off after 30 seconds, it sounds to me like the Flip4Mac components aren't correctly registered and still think you're running the free version for which the export is only a demo mode which restricts export to 30 seconds. I'd suggest you ask in the Flip4Mac forums where you'll probably get help with both that problem and the quality issue.
Regards.

I try to Export my MOV files in Quiktime to WMV, but it never does the whole file. One file is 1:40 and it is clips it at :29. I also have a :05 file nd it clips it to:02. How do I get it to convert the whole file?

I think MPEG Streamclip is good choice, since it's a professional one to convert video files for mac free. If you want something more powerful and easy to use, to my experience, a third party video converter for mac is your good choice to convert mov files. I think it deserves for a try too.

  • TROUBLE Converting .MOV to .WMV w-Quicktime Pro

I've been using the EXPORT feature to convert a .mov file to a .wmv file but it will only export 30 SECONDS of any .mov file I try!! I also tried converting to a .avi file first. That didn't work either.
    I have Quicktime pro.

Does anyone know how to resolve???

Thanks for the info. Why is is that QT Pro advertises media conversion then if it needs an additional Flip4Mac purchase to deliver the promise ?QT supports the "native" conversion of QT compatible formats and, with certain caveats, limited support to some non-QT compatible formats. Here is the list of SUPPORTED FORMATS. I don't see such proprietary Windows based formats as WMV, DivX, XviD, 3ivX, MS-MPEG4 v1-4, etc. listed among them. QT is not a universal converter any more than GM is a universal maker of auto parts for all automobile manufacturers.
On a separate note, doesn't iMovie do everything that QT Pro promises to do ? If so, is QT pro not needed for people with iMovie ?With regard to conversions, yes, iMovie includes internal access to the same QT structures as the QT Pro Player with one possibly important difference. QT Pro can transcode directly between fully supported compression formats while iMovie must convert them to DV first. This does mean a "double conveersion" is required in most cases and does open the door to possible loss of quality. In addition, QT Pro is capable of a number of file presentation/playback manipulations that iMovie cannot duplicate.

  • Trouble converting MOV to WMV

I have QT Pro 7.5 running on a new Mac. Have to convert a very large MOV file to WMV. Used the export selection and changed settings to WMV. File converted but only about a minute's worth of a 40 minute presentation. Tried several times and still only converts a minute. Went thru all the settings and looked nothing would seem to indicate only a 1 minute conversion. Would certainly appreciate the help as the project is waiting to be converted, burned and shipped out. My thanks, Ed.

I guess this might be a bit late for you but it may help others. I found a web site that allows you to upload videos for conversion to just about any format for NOTHING. Thats right... No Cost, No software downloads, updates etc. They do Sound File conversion too.
Go to http://media-convert.com/ or Google 'media convert' and select your file then the format you wish to convert it to, then upload to this web site. The site then emails you when the conversion is complete and ready for downloading. It stays on the web server for 24 hours. There is a 150MB limit on the file size.
There is a Youtube video that explains the process in detail.

I converted a MOV file to a WMV without needing to spend $150 bucks on Flip4Mac.
    Good luck. Adrian

  • Convert .mov to .wmv on mac

I want to convert my movie that I made in iMovie for my mom who doesn't have a mac. She can't figure out how to download Quicktime for Windows. So I'd like to convert the file first before either 1) sending it to her as an e-mail attachment or 2) posting it to my iweb page. Can I post it to my iweb page in .wmv format?
I have Flip4Mac but I don't think it's the studio edition. Do I need it? Do I need Quicktime pro?

Flip4Mac will let you convert 30 seconds in trial mode and will also put a watermark on it, but it will give you an idea of how it works. If you do this kind of thing often, it's well worth it.
I doubt iWeb allows wmv content. I think you'd have to upload the file to the web space provided by your isp.

  • No sound after converting .mov to .wmv using QT Pro...

Any idea why this might happen? sound works fine in the mov file, but when I "Export" it as a .wmv -- video looks great, but no sound.

QuickTime Pro doesn't export to WMP formats without some third party software help. Try their forums:

  • Converting .mov to .wmv only gets me first 30 seconds

how do you do this? i cant figure it out and its driving me crazy!!!

This is a limitation of the flip4mac codec (the free one). If you purchase a license for flip for mac, you get the full length of the video encoded

  • Final cut pro- .mov to wmv conversion?

Hello, I'm trying to convert a 10 minute .mov file (h264) into a .wmv and everytime I try, it only exports 20 seconds worth even though it finishes through until the end. Why is it doing this? Can I make it go all the way through? I'd like to find an easy way to just convert .mov to wmv using Quicktime pro or Final Cut Pro and not have to go through additional software (especially software that costs money). Any help will be appreciated-- thank you

Yes. Windows Media Encoder is your friend.
I wrote up a blog post with how I did it (http://tinyurl.com/28xfbdy[) but in short, I created an archive quality MPEG-2 program stream (35 Mbps). That file can then be opened by Windows Media Encoder and you can encode it however you want.
The other really easy option if you bought before they went out of business - VisualHub will convert directly from a QuickTime file to Windows Media.

  • Convert flash QT.mov to WMV or MPG

    Please help!
Does anyone know the simplest way to convert a flash
animation Quicktime movie to WMV or MPG?
This is a rush, I'm working under deadline. Originally, I was
    told QT.mov was acceptable format.
Now, I'm being told that their server can only handle WMV or
MPG. When they tried to convert the
QT file it was converted without the audio track. I've tried
to download serveral of the free shareware converters -- no luck.
(either corrupted or some glitch occurs or company logo is
    embedded in converted file).
I know AE (AfterEffects) to some degree and I believe I can
export to WMV of MPG there. But this is a huge file,
trying to download it now at a cybercafe with two T1 lines --
    still it's "watching paint dry".
    Please anybody, any suggestions, please.
    Thank you.

I think the simpliest way converting flash into video - use
    Flash To Video
    Encoder.
    recommendation for
    Adobe Premiere
    is a good one too

  • How do you convert .mov to .mpeg or .wmv?! please help!!!

i made a video and put it up on YouTube.com, and tons of people have emailed me saying they want to download it. however, the only format i can put it in is .mov and .mp4 and windows computers can't play these formants.....at least i don't think they can. can they play .mov? i know for a fact they can't play .mp4......
so i was hoping someone knows about some type of converter so I can let my windows friends download it.....that way they don't have to go to youtube all the time just to see it.....if you do, it has to be a free download cuz i'm poor. lol.
    thanks again......
remember, i'm trying to convert .mp4 or .mov TO .wmv or .mpeg

    * the .mov container can be handled by any PC with a free download of Quicktime for Windows; but many PC users hesitate doing so, because on the Apple website it looks like you instali iTunes too... many PC don't like that...
    * .mp4 can be handled by any actual PC mediaplayer... again: PC users are used to import .wmv (or the very old .avi container/not supported by YouTube)
    * for exporting .wmv on a Mac, you need to buy a licence at www.flip4mac.com
    * mpeg... the MotionPictureExpertGroup published many codecs... mpeg1, mpeg2, mpeg4, h261, h264. .... but using iM as exporter, all these mpegs will be "hidden" in the QT container .mov... with QTpro you can strip-off the container, but I recommed the beginner to use one of the above mentioned options......

  • Converting .mov to .avi, .wmv etc

Does anyone know of any mac software that can convert .mov files to .avi, .wmv etc..

yes agree with previous., go purchase FFMac from telestream either the standard SDPRO or the HDPRO version for your needs.
Once in as a QT components, you can SELECT the mode for transode of the type of object you want transcoded in the COMPRESSOR.app INSPECTOR/ENCODER listbox as:
    ENCODE/FILE FORMAT/QUICKTIME COMPONENTS/Encoder Type list box...
    select .wmv etc...
works ok but the FFpro encoding for WMx etc is not as good as .H264 ...(imho) and I was not too satisfied with the results for HDV 1080i recently..
    hope that helps.

  • Converting from .mov to wmv... what the best converter?

    Hi,
I regularly have to convert .mov files to WMV files so that they can be embedded in powerpoint presentations. I recently downloaded 'wondershare' converter for approx £30, however it already seems to be broken & no longer converts. Would anyone recommend a reliable converter?
    Many thanks!

  • Slideshow in Photoshop Elements 9 keeps crashing when I try to output it to movie file (wmv)

Made a slideshow using Photoshop Elements 9 that keeps crashing when I try to output it to movie file (wmv).
This message appear: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error
This is totally new to me as I have made a few slidshows before and saved them into wmv-files without any problem.I tried to open the file and renew it "save as" and did the whole procedure over again but it still crasches. There is no video in the slideshow and all pics are .jpg and to summarize it - 5 days of work is nearly gone if this doesent convert into a wmv-file..... Pls advise any suggestion what to try here.
    Best regards
    Eric
    /Sweden

Your crash has nothing to do with the junk filter. It looks more like a corrupt preferences file. If you're curious, you may check the validity of that file issuing the following command in Terminal:
plutil ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plistWhat does it say? Now, try this:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. Make a backup copy of the HOME/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. In the Finder, go to HOME/Library/Preferences/. Locate the file com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this fixes the problem).
You'll have to set up your accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don't. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in HOME/Library/Mail/ when done.
You'll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. The first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable "Display remote images in HTML messages" if it's enabled.

  • Converting Mov to FLV audio loss

    Hi all,
This might be something someone could help me think. The problem I seem to be encountering is a loss of audio in the later quarter of videos converted into an flv from a quicktime mov (PAL 1024kbps / 29fps / 500x280), this typically happens on a file durration of upto 2 or 3mins. It doesnt happen when converting from a wmv, (also trying an AVI) although the outputed quality tends to be a lot less clearer using some of these other formats. Interestingly, when previewing the MOV in a quicktime player theres no signs that this will happen / no loss of audio / no blips in the frames around the later of the vid. Both the On2 VP6 or Sorrenson Spark cunjor the same fault.
I would love to here someones take on this
    Many thanks
    Matt

    Welcome to the forums.
    (PAL 1024kbps / 29fps / 500x280)
    That's weird, PAL is 25fps 720x576.
converted into an flv from a quicktime mov
What did you use to convert? Perhaps try a different converter?
    Cheers
    Eddie
