Converting movies in itunes

when i use itunes to convert movies and sync to my iphone the movie clip will play but i get no sound. any ideas

If the videos are multiplexed MPEG files then the audio and the video are muxed onto the same track. QuickTime, and therefore any application that uses QT like iTunes, the iPod, iMovie (Mac app), etc. expect two separate tracks, one video and one audio. So when you convert these muxed files, the video is played and the audio is not heard.

So you need to do a conversion on the file first. MPEG Streamclip is a popular one that comes in both Mac and Windows versions and is known to "repair" this problem.
There are other applications that can do this as well. Try searching the iLounge.com web site for more conversion help. But your root cause is the muxed MPEG files.

Problem Uploading Converted Movie to Itunes

I have a 30gig Ipod Video,and I downloaded a movie from 360Download,and I then used cucusoft.com to convert it, Now the converted movie is in a folder and I looked on the website of cucucsoft to look for the instructions to then upload the movie into Itunes. But everytime I try to drag the movie file or "add file to library" in Itunes....Nothing happens,I look back into my library and I do not see the movie.

I have a large collection of movies that I want to add to the iTunes library, intended for viewing on AppleTV.
I purchased Bigasoft video converter for iTunes, and transcoded to AppleTV format, yet, nothing is showing up in the library either by using File>Add Folder/File, or dragging and dropping...
What am I doing wrong? It's incredible irritating....

Make sure it's the right format mov, m4v or mp4.
If you format is correct but still not able to add file to library, please repair your Quicktime.
Control Panel > Proigrams n Features > highlight QuickTime, click CHANGE then REPAIR.

Converting movies for itunes!

I have a few shows and such that arnt read by itunes and Im just wondering what program I could use to convert them so my itunes could pick them up. I have windows movie maker and I cant tell which file save itunes would read.

You need to do get info while playing each movie ckip and report the bitrates not this info, which we kind of knew - reason: the H.264 could be 5 mb/sec for one and 1 mb/sec for the other, to be clearer. You can report what the AVI is , bitrate wise as well.
Though I think Big Endian is uncompressed audio and may take up a lot of room. The AAC is much more compressed audio.
Use MPEG Streamclip, export to MPEG-4 and pick the variouos iPod/Apple TV presets and make your life a LOT easier and it is free. Does batches of files too. I don't ever use QT itself, as MPEG Streamclip uses it as the engine.
iTunes won't have a problem, if the bitrates exceed the iPod limits they won't play on an iPod. I am pretty sure the Big Endian audio won't at all.
You can change a MOV file to a music video in iTunes merely by changing the setting under Video when you do get info on it.

Download the app vlc media player from the app store. Its free. All you have to do is drag and drop it into the app via itunes and itll convert it for you. Then just go into the app on the ipod and watch.

Allright so here is how its going down. I download a video off Limewire or MP3 Rocket then i put it into itunes and its running fine with audio then when i click the convert button it takes about 3-5 hours and then there is no audio! Someone please help

If you're starting with MPEG files, then Quicktime doesn't support muxed MPEGs properly. Use a different program to convert these, like Videora. Quality isn't as good, but it's way faster and easier to do.

Loading DVD movies into iTunes 10.6.3 over OS10.6.8 stream to iPad

I am on holidays and want to watch a DVD (No Code of Conduct, always been a Martin Sheen fan) I bought at a Yard Sale. My van is set up to port the iPad audio through the van stereo and has a mounting bracket for the iPad that makes it handy to watch while in the bed. Fortunately, I brought my MacBook along for the DVD player. I want to watch the movie on the iPad while it is playing in the MacBook. I tried to load the DVD into iTunes for Home Sharing , but no luck there.
How do I stream a DVD movie to my iPad from my MacBook?

Sorry Winston, but I can and have done it.
Not the way I wanted to but it works none the less.
First, convert the DVD to a format usable by iTunes
Second, import the converted movie to iTunes and turn on home sharing for the MacBook AND the iPad, log in both machines
Third, make sure both devices are connected to the same network. I also tried turning on web sharing on the MacBook but for some reason we sharing wouldn't run so I connected to an another available network.
Last, run Video on the iPad, select the movie and badda bing, it works.
NOTE, try this with a better movie next time. Although I like Martin Sheen, not the best choice.

PS. I'll report back when I get websharing working to see if it runs without an outside network.
PPS. Since the movie was loaded into iTunes it was easy to sync the movie into the iPad for watching without the help of the MacBook.

Converting MOV file to iTunes file

On my MacBook Pro, I have been converting MOV files to iTunes files. Suddenly, however, this won't work. I get the following message: Can’t make file "Macintosh HD:private:var:folders:Al:AlJFXwbEEgqKI3EA0xH26

With the MOV file on my desktop, I click it open, then click on the icon that is a square with an arrow coming out of it. This gives me the option to convert the file so it can be viewable on iTunes, Mobile me gallery, or Youtube. If I chose iTunes, previous MOV files I have converted this way appear to have been converted to m4v files for iPhone or iPod.
Now when I click on the iTunes option, I get the "Can't make file" message.

I LOVE my Nano!
However, I'm wanting to import some movies into iTunes so I can watch them on my Nano. It sounds ridiculous but I really can't figure out how to do this! Do I HAVE to have / buy a conversion program, eg: Quick Time Pro? Obviously none of my .avi files will move into iTunes and I can't change / convert them. How does everyone get their movies into iTunes if they're not a Quick Time supported file? And therefore, how do you convert the files in order to do so?

Converting high def iTunes movie purchases to standard def

I appologize if this question has been asked, and answered before.
My question is, if I purchase a high definition movie from iTunes, is there a way to convert it to standard definition so I can sync it to any iPad (1,2 or 3), so it doesn't eat up so much of the valuable, and limited space on the iPads? Since high definition movies are easily twice to three times the size of standard definition movies. I don't want to have to purchase both the high definition and standard definition of the same movie.

It seems it isn't possible with iTunes' built-in "Create X or X version" as they're copy protected.
That is, the only solution seems to be getting more external storage like that of Seagate GoFlex Satellite ( http://www.seagate.com/external-hard-drives/portable-hard-drives/wireless/goflex -satellite/ ). It can even be "hacked" (see http://www.hackseagatesatellite.com/wordpress/welcome/ ) to make it even more versatile.
