Converting Movies to 30gig iPod

I just purchased a new 30gig iPod and am having trouble converting my videos. Once I convert them from their original format to be compatable with my iPod, they lose their sound. Help!

okay. let's try swapping out your QuickTime.
    let's try this technique first.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Store movies only on ipod

i like to store my movies only on my ipod, just to save size on my powerbook.
    Is it possible?
    thanks for your help

It is, but they must comply with these settings:
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
I am not a Mac user, but believe Handbrake is a good tool for converting movies to the iPod. Check these forums for the word 'handbrake'.

  • Converting Movies for iPod: No Sound

Whenever I convert a movie for my iPod, there is no sound in the converted file. The original movie has sound, but it is in a form that you can't put on iPod.
By the way, I am using the Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone under the Advanced menu.
    Any ideas??

Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert the videos; more information on this issue is available in this article.

  • Use QuickTime Player to convert movies to iPod video format......

I don't know if this has been posted but, thought everyone might find it useful.
You can convert quicktime movies to readable ipod video format without having to purchase Quicktime Pro. Thats right, just the Quicktime player.
Now, I know that you can use Handbrake along with other converter programs for free. but just in case you want to use Quicktime Player here is a link that will show you how via applescript or automator.
    http://www.cs.brandeis.edu/~ari/scripts/Quicktime2iTunesVideo.html

Here's a step-by-step of ONE of the ways (I have a Mac) you can convert your videos (mpgs) to mpeg4 files to view on your 5th gen iPods so your videos will have sound:
I use Mpeg streamclip found on www.squared5.com.
(This is from memory and I don't have the program opened in front of me so apologies if this is not totally accurate!)
Once you've installed Mpeg streamclip, and opened up a new window, drag the mpg file you want converted onto the new window. You should now see the first clip of your video in the window.
Go to File and choose "Export to MPEG4". This will open up another window. Click the button "iPod" on the upper right corner of the window and that will automatically input the settings for an iPod. Then click the button "Export to MPEG4" at the lower right corner of the window. You have to choose where you want your file saved. I just place them in the Videos folder of my hard drive. Then this will start the conversion of your mpg.
Depending on how large your file is, this may take awhile.
When the conversion is complete, simply take your new file (now with ".mpeg4" as an extension) and DRAG it into your iTunes library. I don't remember if you have to actually drag it onto your iPod as well.
As you drag the mpeg4 file onto your iPod, it should say "updating song" at the top of you iTunes window, then you know it worked.
So now you have a VIDEO on your iPod that plays SOUND!!
    Hope this was helpful.

  • Trouble converting movies into ipod compatible files

I just got quicktime pro and I'm trying to convert movie files into files that can be played on my ipod... the files are changing into M4V files and can be played on my ipod but they have no sound.. can anyone help me fix this?

Before you can convert the file must play without errors in QuickTime.
If the file is MPEG-1 you'll need to use the free MPEG Streamclip app to convert to iPod settings.

  • Converting movies for iPod

Here is the source of my problem: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1946609&tstart=0
My problem with iTunes is that I cannot get any DVD ripped to make an mp4 that works on my iPod. I use to be able to use Handbrake to convert some of my DVDs to watch in the car or while I was not at home. But now I cannot seem to add any movie made from Handbrake onto my iPod and inorder to do so I have to convert selection to iPhone/iPod. I would rather not do this because it takes such a long time to run. I guess this is a bit more of a developer question, but how come iTunes takes such a long time to convert a movie? I ran a test on this once and found iTunes took 20 minutes or more than VisualHub to convert a 5 minute movie.

    Bump?

  • Converting movies to be played on the iPod!!!

When I convert movies to iTunes to play it on the iPod, for some reason volume isnt transfering with the movie!! Help!!

If you're starting with MPEG files, then Quicktime doesn't support muxed MPEGs properly. Use a different program to convert these, like Videora. Quality isn't as good, but it's way faster and easier to do.

  • Converting Movie to Ipod format thru Quicktime Pro

I purchase the QuicktimePro Registration key for Windows(XP), to convert movies(mp4) format to Ipod(30gb).
QuicktimePro DOES NOT convert mpeg-4 to Ipod format, m4v or mov? I know Quicktime pro is only a few dollars, but I spent for something that I did not enjoy. A very useless feature.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. thank you.

Hello Sujay, are you a Quicktime Tech support? sorry it was too late when I found out that I posted my issue in the wrong Forum, this is my first time, I apologize.
Sorry too, that I did not explain in full detail. Yes, I followed the xact instruction in the manual, followed one of the QT-Tech Support, he even gave me a supporting/reading materials related to my inquiry, I have 2 co-workers behind my shoulders who tried to help but no luck.
My OS is XP, Quicktime plays all my movies(mp4)format without a problem, but when it comes to exporting, (Movie to iPod 320X240)the exported movie is successful but still in mp4 format, instead of m4v I believe.
Did you have a successful conversion? Can you tell me where my missing piece is, please? Thank you with your full attention.

  • Converting Movie Trailers to work on iPod

I've downloaded a few movie trailers, and they will no load onto the iPod "they are not compatible with this iPod".
    Purchased videos work fine.
The error sends you to a KBase article that has nothing to do with the iPod - it tells you how to watch videos in iTunes.
So, what format do the movie trailers need to be converted to in order to work?
    Thanks

Does the Windows version of QT Pro have the "export to iPod" function? I want to make sure before I kick in the $30 for it, but if it does, I'll be on it. I use other software for VOB conversion, the PSPVIDEO9 guys have a freeware iPod conversion program out (windows only, sorry) that seems to work great (I assume, I haven't loaded a movie to the iPod yet, but it looks good in QT)

  • Converting movies into ipod format

can some one help me my itunes keeps converting movies either audio but white screen or video but no audio..ughh i cant put any of my good movies on my nano just lame ones..help

    Hi There-
Thanks for the info. I am actually using the Squared5 mpeg decoder. I followed the directions for the fix, but it still gives my the mpeg-2 error. I have tried the freeware "Quicktime Alternative 181" from the apple website and with that, eitrher my itunes will work fully and the Squared5 will not, or if I un-install itunes, the Squared5 will work fully. It's like when one will, the other won't. I never had this problem before, did Apple change something that makes Squared-5 not compatible ???
I really do not want to sound cheap, times are tough for me and I am trying to do this fix as inexpensive as possible,
If I buy the 19.99 MPEG-2 playback component, I want to be sure that it is going to work, since you can't get refunds from Apple.
Since I am new to this, could you let me know what steps I need to do to do this in the right order????
Thanks for your time, I really do appriciate the time.
    Sincerely- Doug

  • Convert Movie for iPod-sound disappeared

I tried to convert a video for iPod by using "Advanced/Convert Selection to iPod". After it's converted, the sound is gone. Any idea why? Also, the video quality is bad when I view it in iPod, anyway I can adjust it? Thanks!!

If the videos are multiplexed MPEG files then the audio and the video are muxed onto the same track. QuickTime, and therefore any application that uses QT like iTunes, the iPod, iMovie (Mac app), etc. expect two separate tracks, one video and one audio. So when you play these muxed files, the video is played and the audio is not heard.
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588
So you need to do a conversion on the file first. MPEG Streamclip is a popular one that comes in both Mac and Windows versions and is known to "repair" this problem.
See this other link for other applications that might be able to do the same thing. But your root cause is the muxed MPEG files.

  • Problem Uploading Converted Movie to Itunes

I have a 30gig Ipod Video, and I downloaded a movie from 360Download,and I then used cucusoft.com to convert it, Now the converted movie is in a folder and I looked on the website of cucucsoft to look for the instructions to then upload the movie into Itunes. But everytime I try to drag the movie file or "add file to library" in Itunes....Nothing happens,I look back into my library and I do not see the movie.
    Can anyone help me?

The majority of conversion problems posted here are
    tied to videora.
Audio/video sync problems, won't go onto ipod even
though it says it is the correct format, or sound
drops out after a few minutes.
    That is bad, buggy software.
People keep pushing the software, suggesting it for
    every person posting.
Since it is buggy and so many people have problems
with it and I do not want to keep seeing repeated
questions about why videora messed up-I tell people
    to avoid it.
I use to just tell them to google search, try several
different ones and pick what they like.
Now I just push mpeg streamclip to counteract
    everyone else pushing videora.
I do this because I care.
I ended up searching thru some of your posts, and I got the url for the actual site, and I have no downloaded square5, BUT NOW....when I try to convert the movie using this format....Its telling me "FILE OPEN ERROR:SUPPORTED FILE TYPE"
Help Me...what am I doing wrong or is it just the movie I am trying to convert?....

  • Unable to Sync Quicktime Movie Clips with IPOD

I am a new ipod user having difficulty syncing Quicktime movie clips to IPOD.
Clips are saved as .mov files and Itunes will play.
However I cannot get them to sync woth IPOD.
Any ideas - Do I need to convert to annother format?

First you need to import your movies into iTunes. Do this by opening iTunes <File> <Import> <Movies> then choose the movie you want to put on your iPod. Make sure the movie has .mov at the end otherwise it won't be set up the way it's supposed to be.
Once the movie is imported into iTunes right click on it so a pull down menu appears. Click on <Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone>. It should begin converting it on its own and when it's done you'll hear the typical sound that happens after importing a cd, telling you the operation is complete.
After it's converted, you will have 2 identical movies in your menu. If you <Get Info> on each, you should be able to see which is newest version; that is the movie you are going to want to sync.
Then plug your iPod in to iTunes, go to the movie tab in iPod summary and check off the converted movies you want to sync to your iPod. Press <Sync> and that should add your movies to your iPod.
    Hope this helps.
