Converting MP4 files with 5.1 sound

I tried using Videora, Xillisoft and Cucusoft's converters, but all of them fail converting my MP4 files with 5.1 sound.
I don't mind losing the other 4 channels, but can anyone tell me what program can convert them?
BTW the files were created with NERO.

Saw this somewhere:
Ok, I managed to get Dolby Digital from a Video file. The steps are very easy:
Create an mp4 from your DVD or other source with Handbrake or Visual Hub - Audio Settings are not important
If you are ripping a DVD then open Mac the Ripper, choose Chapter extraction, open streams and select the Audio File you want to be extracted
You will now need Quicktime Pro
Open both files (the mp4 and the ac3) in Quicktime. Copy the ac3 stream and paste it to the mp4 file
Save the file as a MOV movie
Import it in iTunes
That was it!!!
I am now trying to figure out how to extract ac3 audio from mkv files...

  • Problem with reading mp4 files with QT 7.4.1 or mpeg Streamclip

    Hi,
I used to convert some .flv files into .mp4 files with iSquint and then into .dv files with mpeg Streamclip in order to re-work and compile these files on a DVD using iMovie and iDVD.
However I cannot do it anymore since I upgraded to QT 7.4.1. iSquint uses the mpeg-4 video codec to convert the file. Therefore I cannot open them with QT 7.4.1 anymore and I cannot convert them into .dv files with mpeg Streamclip anymore since Streamclip is uses a QT plug-in.
I have tried to solve the problem using Perian but this plug-in does not work with my version of Mac (Panther 10.3.9). I also tried to downgrade to an older QT using Pacifist but it nearly crashed my whole computer (fortunately I could fix that by reinstalling QT 7.4.1).
Has someone a solution to my problem?
    Thank you in advance.
    Steve

Not all the following will apply to Panther (10.3.x) so look carefully on the sites mentioned for the correct versions:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

Is QuickTime support Multiple SPS Mp4 file ?

You didn't answer probably the most important question: whether you're using hardware or software Mercury Playback Engine (MPE). However, since you've set Maximum Render Quality on, it's largely irrelevant.
When you're using hardware MPE or have the MRQ flag set for your export, rendering is performed with linear color. Linear color processing affects how color channels and alpha channels are composited--anything less than 100% opacity is subject to linear color processing. Check out this article for more information on linear color/linear light: Linear Light - Artbeats
Since it sounds like you're seeing the results you expect in the Program Monitor, but not export, I'll wager you're not using hardware MPE. Only by disabling the Maximum Render Quality flag on export will you be able to get results that match what you see in the Program Monitor (within reason, of course). The only way you could see the effects of linear color within Premiere would be to either use a qualified GPU that enables hardware MPE, or go into your Sequence Settings and check the "Maximum Render Quality" option and then render previews.
Please let me know if that helps resolve the issue, or at least provide a little insight into the problem.

mp4 is a container, no 'format'.
could contain HDef too (Streamclip should convert to QT/AppleInterediateCodec)
could be imported to iM without conversion
could be handled instantly with usage of perian.org plug-in
could not be handled on MacOs anyhow ...

  • Convert mp4 files to mov

I have recently succeeded in using compressor to convert mp4 files into mov files using the h264 settings. however, this is no longer working due to the bugieness of compressor. I have also tried it with Media Encoder but that creates files three times the size of the original.
Any one know of anyother way to do this?

Sure. No argument there. But you have to work with the files given to you from the clients. In this case MP4's   encoded in such a way that the audio remains compressed on the timeline. Converting the files to mov is the quickest conversion process.
Also the final product is for web streaming anyways. I have considered converting just the audio but it's easier file management and it also avoids sync issues.
So yeah anyways now I'm using Media Encoder the conversion is faster and more dependable than compressor. I also now limit the bit rate to 2000 kpbs/sec to keep the file size of the converted file from slowing down the editing process. the resulting file sizes are not much smaller than the original mp4 files.
Seems to be the best solution so far. Batch convert at night and edit during the day.

  • Trouble converting powerpoint files with png images to pdf-Can someone help?

    Hello all,
In my line of work, I create and modify large sized posters that are created in powerpoint. I would have the files print ready by converting them to pdf. I usually have little to no issues executing this. However, I have been dealing with an issue of converting ppt files with png images. The size of the ppt is typically a 42x56 file. The several ways to convert to pdf produces an error each time. Png images are very useful as they provide much clarity vs jpegs or tiffs. The 3 ways I have tried below are:
    A) File>Print>Adobe PDF>High Quality print settings/300dpi results to an error message that says:
"Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current print setup. Try one of the following:
*Check the printer by printing a test page from Windows.
*Make sure the printer is turned on and online.
         *Reinstall the printer driver"
A blank pdf opens up (Selected to open file after publishing)
    B) File>Save as> Change file type as a pdf results in nothing happening. No pdf is produced.
    C) Acrobat>Create PDF results to an error message that says: "An unexpected error occured. PDFMaker was unable to produce the Adobe PDF."
Again, this all happens with ppt files with png images. I took out the png images and attempted to convert to pdf, and the pdf is produced!
Can anyone provide any assistance in creating pdfs with png images or what settings I need to adjust? I am able to covert every other image type (jpeg, tiff, bmp), except for png images.
I am using Microsoft Office 2010 with Adobe Acrobat X on Windows 7 (This happened on Windows XP as well).

    >I have a 48 slide presentation that has a small .png image in the "slide
    >master" so it will show up on every page.
PowerPoint only has to store one instance of the image even thought it is
displayed on multiple slides. But Acrobat can't do the same, the image has
to be stored for every page that it appears on, so that would explain the
    larger file size.
Acrobat is supposed to be able to optimize the storage of common background
images (at least that's the message I see when I do a "Save as..."), but I
have yet to see it to work. Maybe it depends on the application the orginal
file is created in and the PDF conversion method used.
Adding the image into a PDF file later as a watermark instead may be a way
to keep the size down (then it really only does store the object once),
though I believe that watermark images will appear in front of everything
else on the page (not sure if that's a problem for you, it depends on
whether any text or objects in the presentation ever appear in front of the
    image).
What are the dimensions and resolution of the image in PowerPoint? You may
be able to go as low as 75 dpi and not notice a difference, it depends on
whether the image contains any areas of high contrast or text.

  • Converting mp4 files to mp3 files

could someone tell me how to convert mp4 files into mp3 files? thanks

    Now this is clear.
You didn't have an .mp4 file or even a .m4a file. Yours is .m4p.
    The "p" stands for protected.
The rules say you can burn your .m4p files to CD. The CD file will be in .aiff format.
Drag the .aiff file into iTunes and then "convert" (using the options in your preferences for bit rate and extension).

  • I need help with Compressor 4 settings to convert .mp4 files to .m4v for iBooks Author

I'm a curriculum design guy with no video background. I have Compressor 4, but don't really know much about how to best use it.  I'd appreciate some help with getting the right setting for my project. Screen shots of settings would be much appreciated, since I don't know much video terminology.
I'm making an free iBook for students on WWII propaganda using old videos from the Internet archive.
I'd plan to use Compressor to:
    1. Convert the .mp4 files to a .m4v that iBooks Author will accept. (I know I can use QT for that, but it increases file size)
    2. Use Compressor to reduce file size so my iBook doesn't get too big
    3. Get videos that look & sound the best, given the poor quality of the original source videos.
Here's some sample videos that I'll use:

PS - I will also be editing some of the original videos in iMovie - if I use different settings to prep those videos for iBook Author, let me know.
Much thanks in advance for any help

  • Drifting sync with converted MP4 files

Hi there. I'm converting some MP4 files to .mov using AIC using slipstream so that I can edit the footage in FCP. I find that the sync is drifting very gradually within a few minutes. The sound is an aiff file recorded digitally at the time. Any idea what might cause this? Thanks. Should I use another codec?

Do not use ProRes HQ. It's overkill unless you are working with FILM not VIDEO. Just use ProRes 422. You will see this documented all over this forum. It was even discussed earlier today.
To the OP- A lot of people also use MPEG Streamclip (free download) to convert files to editing formats. Not that there is anything wrong with Compressor. I just want to point out another option.
What sample rate was the audio recorded in? 44.1khz or 48khz? If it's the former it would explain why your audio is drifting. Try using QT to convert to 48khz AIFF 16 Bit

  • HELP: I have an impossibly long rendering time after converting .MP4 files from Go Pro Camera to .MOV on Final Cut Pro 7. PLEASE ADVISE.

I am working on a project and shot guerilla style footage with a Go Pro camera, which produced .MP4 files incompatible with FCP7. When I converted the files to .MOV, I realized the rendering time in the sequence editor is impossibly long. I am working with a deadline and the rendering time exceeds the deadline, let alone editing time. Suggestions???

Telling us you converted to .mov doesn't tell us much. MOV is a container that supports a very wide range of codecs. It is the specific CODEC that matters.
You most likely did not convert the material to a FCP7 native format. ProRes is recommended and, given the compression of the GoPro, ProRes LT would be the best choice.
Use Compressor to convert everything to ProResLT and life will be much simpler.

  • Can't TAG Mp4 files with Dolby Digital AC3 5.1

Hi everyone, I use iTunes to TAG all my Mp3 and Mp4, I have over 100,000 Mp3 tagged with iTunes without no problem and over 2,000 DVDs concerts, TV series, etc in Mp4 format tagged also with iTunes without any problems, all my Mp4 til now have 2 channel stereo sound.
My problem now is that I'm making some Mp4 movies with dolby digital 5.1 and this Mp4 play perfect in iTunes and QuickTime ''but'' I can't TAG them in iTunes because of the AC3 5.1, I'm sure of this because everthing made in 2 channel stereo have no problem to TAG in iTunes. If I TAG them its seems in the begining to write the TAGs but if I clear iTunes and then re-load again the files the TAGs dissapears.
I use MAC and PC. I use Nero Recode 2 to make my Mp4. I have the last version of iTunes and QT.... I have noticed that Winamp can write the TAGs without any problems and stays there but what I need is to iTunes recognize that TAGs because I run all my libraries in iTunes
Thanks in advance, sorry for my english.

Anybody please, any answer can help me please... Is that no body has experience this same problem?
If iTunes can't support TAGs with 5.1 is possible to fix this in the next update?
    Regards

  • Converting avi files with videora

When i try to convert an AVI format video with Videora it doesnt work. I click start and then it just says transcode complete, but when i check for it, it isnt there. Is there any other way to convert AVI files?

Hopefully in answer to the many posts on “how to get various video formats onto your iPod” I have put together a summary of applications I use. I have tried a few others with varying amounts of success (some of which are free) - I have finally plumped for the software produced by Xilisoft as providing good quality video relatively affordable cost for use withPC’s and numerous MS operating systems. The link below takes you to their site which not only allows you to download trail versions of their software but also has a comprehensive set of tutorials and FAQ's for their iPod video conversion software.
I have regularly used these applications to convert various file formats to iPod friendly video. They are simple to use although frequently processor and RAM hungry:
Use Xilisoft iPod Video Converter if you want to:
[*]Convert various video file formats to MP4
[*]Convert most audio file formats to MP3
[*]Extract audio from video file and save to MP3
    [*]Encode several files simultaneously
[*]Pause encoding process to run other CPU time consuming programs at any time
    Supported file formats:
    Video:
    [*]MPEG(mpg, mpeg, dat, vob); WMV; ASF; AVI; QuichTime(mov, qt); MPEG4(mp4); 3GP; DV(dv,
    dif); Real Video(rm); Animated GIF(gif - decoding only); Macromedia Flash(swf - decoding
    audio only);
    Audio:
[*]MPEG Audio(mp2, mp3); WMA; WAV; AU; MPEG4 Audio(m4a); Real Audio(ra); OGG; AAC; Raw
    AC3(ac3); NUT Open Container Format(nut);
To convert DVD's to an iPod friendly video format:
Use Xilisoft DVD to iPod V4:
[*]Just pop the DVD in your drive select compression variables (default settings work well) and sit back!
All these products are available on a "try before you buy basis", yes there are applications for XP which are free but and may work just as well but I have converted many hours of video for my iPod without hassle using the Xilisoft products (no I don't work for them!). Check there web site HERE
