Converting old LP's for archiving to CD's: Beginning the project

If anyone has 'been there' 'done that' on this topic would you please advise what you would do if you had to start from scratch today? My first step is to get the sound off the vinyl into an acceptable digital form. I'll worry about editing & cleanup later (or should I worry about that now too?).
As part of your response, should I consider an "external" recording solution so as not to beat up my MAC ??
Your time proven and hard fought for advice would be welcome ...
Thanks in advance for any input,
Sam

hmmm....how good do you want this to sound? I mean, vinyl has it's own sound. Are you trying to transfer it into a digital format for digital re-mastering or are you just trying to preserve old LPs before you wear them out?
Either way, I can't empasize this enough. Shoot for good quality from the beginning. If you want a decent turntable, the Technics SL-1200 has been THE turntable to use in the DJ industry for...well, forever. Nowadays it's built to withstand "DJ scratching" and other abuse turntables were not originally meant to be used for. You can get one for about $300-400.
You can get a decent audio interface (a fancy term for a sound card) anywhere from $200 to $2000 dollars. Consumer sound cards are created for great output quality. Prosumer/pro audio interfaces are built for both input AND output quality. With the boom of the "home studio" movement, there's been an overall drop in price for a decent recording interface. You could get one that will work for your needs for around $200 nowadays.
Then again, you can always find a recording studio that does simple transfer work...
Oh, and then there's clean up/editing...I think the previous post pretty much covered that...

I just purchased a Samsung Android cell phone and would like to trade the sim from my new to cell to the zoom so I can have my old cell phone number back. The problem is the sim cards are different sizes. Is this something I can take to a store and get switched out?

    SRCLARK,
Great question! You can go to the store and get a replacement SIM card at the store. Any corporate store will be more than happy to help replacing your card. http://bit.ly/3SdsA

    Hi all,
I've had the same issue with regards to getting the error below when assigning transactions to a Blueprint business process.
"No system found for component and Evaluation system in the Project"
But I think I have solved it and seems pretty simple to change the system role from Evaluation System to any other that is relevant in your landscape.
Go to transaction SOLAR01 > Click on the first level of the Project Name (Under Business Blueprint Structure) to select the Project.
Click Business Blueprint in the Menu > System Role > Choose the relevant System Role (in my case Development)
    Click Copy
This should replicate to all nodes and then you should be able to assign transaction to the business processes.
Quite strange and seems simple, I checked the Solution Directory, Solar Project Admin etc etc but couldn't find the solution until this which should work.
If not, there is a similar work around which also works.
    Go to transaction SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN
    System Landsacpe Tab
    Systems subtab
    Click System Role Assignment
Remove the Evaluation System (or all those not relevant to your Project and Logical Components)
    Save Project
Go to SOLAR01 and it should reflect it in the Blueprint.
You can always go back to this and add the System Roles you removed and the Blueprint will reference the correct Role.
    Hope this helps everyone,

  • How can i delete an old icloud account for which I do not have the password

I changed my iCloud and iTunes account on my MAC AIR to a new ID (successfully).  The iTunes account on my iPad Air was also updated, but I can't change or get rid of the old iCloud account on my iPad and I don't know what the old password is for the old account.  How can this account be deleted off my iPad, please help!

If your device is signed into an old iCloud ID that is an earlier version of the ID you want to sign in with, do the following:
If you are using iMessage and FaceTime, make sure you are signed into these services with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless you are using iCloud Photo Library).  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

I have consolidate my folders related to the video I am in the progress of working on.  Premiere elements does not follow their new location.  How do I syn them back up all at once so premiere doesn't ask me for their location when I open the project

This is the Photoshop Elements forum, not the Premiere Elements forum, located here:
    https://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements
When you open the project, it should ask you where the first file is located. After you tell it where it is, it should be able to find the rest of them if they are located near the first one.  Then save the file.  If you move the files again, you will have to relink them again.

  • How can I delete an old iCloud account for which I do not remember the password?  The email address linked to that account is no longer active.

The email linked to that account is no longer active.  How can I delete this old account and use a new one?

Although your profile says you're running iOS 5.1.1 it sounds like you're running iOS 7 (otherwise you would not need your password to delete the old account).  Assuming that's true, and your iCloud ID has changed but you need to delete the old account in order to change to your new one, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • HT1420 How do I authorise my computer to play songs purchased with an old apple id for which I no longer have the password?

I recently purchased a mac for my daughter. On transfering some songs to her machine from my computer, I was asked for authorisation which I provided.
Some songs however, although they play with no problems on my other two machines, on HER computer asked me to authorise the songs with an apple ID and Password that I no longer have and haven't used in about 5 years. The e-mail ID is closed down now, and I can't remember the password.
    What do I do?

All downloads from the store are tied to the account that downloaded them, so if those songs were bought by that old account then only that old account will be able to authorise them. If you can't remember the password but you know it's security info then you could try getting the password reset via this page : http://iforgot.apple.com - if you can then you can change the primary email address on it by logging into the account : http://appleid.apple.com
If you can't get the password reset that way then you could try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
    Or maybe Apple : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699

  • My IPad shows my old iTunes login for ICloud. I cannot remember the old password - is there a way I can retrieve it or reset ICloud login without it ?

I updated my ITunes ID and password, but my IPad2 keeps prompting me to backup on ICloud with the former ID/password.  Support says to delete the current ICloud account, but I am prompted for the former password to do this. I cannot remember the former password nor find a way to retrieve it. How do I either change the ICloud login ID prompt or retrieve the former ID password ?

    Hello alljnii,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPad 2.  I recommend resetting the password for your old Apple ID to resolve this issue.
You can reset a forgotten Apple ID or iCloud password by going to the following link:
    Apple - iForgot
    https://iforgot.apple.com
If you have a rescue email setup for your Apple ID, the reset password email will be sent there and not your Apple ID email address:
When you provide a rescue email address, all future security emails, such as password resets from iForgot, will be sent to the address provided.

  • For archiving photos, should I save sRGB ICC profile?

    Hi all.
I have started scanning old print photographs for archive.
I started a bunch of them, but now am pondering if whether or not I should save an ICC profile to the files.
Basically I'm scanning in the photos at 600 dpi, and saving them as TIFF with NO compression and set to IBM PC.
For the ICC profile option, it gives me sRGB IEC61966-2.1.
Do I need to tick that when saving, or will the colors look fine in future computers/applications?
I'm kinda confused on the ICC/sRGB matter even after reading about it. From what I understood it's only to display colors accurately for the Web.
How does ICC/sRGB factor into my archival project?
I'd greatly appreciate any feedback, tips and advice.
    Thank you.

Yes, if you are archiving, save the document with it's profile.
You don't need to convert to any particular profile (which could lose details), just save with the profile of the document.
ICC defines a standard for describing document colors.  Without that information, your document is just numbers without any known appearance. With a profile, the document numbers have an unambiguous interpretation as colors.
sRGB is just a profile that represents the average CRT as of 10+ years ago, and is sort of a standard average for web viewing on uncalibrated displays and web browsers that don't always obey profiles.

  • A workflow for archiving and de-archiving HD clips

A few months ago I put out a query on the best workflow to use for archiving HD footage whilst maintaining the flexibility of importing to iMovie and doing some editing at a later date. I don't have a super fast mac (yet) so editing the HD in iMovie can be a bit of a pain. Thanks to Appleman1958 for some top tips. I thought I'd share my workflow with you.
Once I have some clips on the camcorder I want to archive the original footage without having to go through iMovie everytime (which decompresses the clip files to HUGE sizes!). But I also want to be able to quickly de-archive some footage and make a simple DVD or make a movie on the (upgraded!) computer.
    1) I connect the camera to the mac via USB. I have turned off the iMovie Auto-open function. The camera appears as a mounted drive on the desktop.
    2) I open Toast 9. I set it up to make a "Mac Only" Data disc. I open the camcorder drive and locate the AVCHD folder. I drag the AVCHD folder into the Toast 9 window.
    3) I then tell Toast 9 to make a Disc Image as opposed to a real disc. I name it appropriately and save it to a hard drive. This is step one of the archiving. I now have a digital copy of the original camcorder clips in their original format (not Mb hungry .mov)
    4) After a while, when I have a bunch of disc image files, from different sessions, I tranfer them all onto a real DVD Data Disc. This now gives me a hard copy of the original camcorder files which I can store securely away from thunderstorms and what not.
If I decide to make a simple DVD from any old footage I do the following:
    1) I connect the camcorder (with no clips on it) to the mac.
    2) I insert a DVD Data Disc with archived disc images on it, or I navigate to a disc image file on a hard drive.
    3) I mount the selected disc image on the desktop using Toast 9 (gives you the option in a right click context menu in Finder). This allows me to see the AVCHD folder in the disc image.
    4) I move the AVCHD folder onto the camcorder, replacing the one that was already there. If I was to open iMovie at this point it would read the old clips off the camcorder.
    5) I disconnect the camcorder that now has the old clips on it. When I turn it on it says it needs to rebuild the image database (guess it prefers to make clips rather than have them thrust upon it!). I say OK and it thinks for a few seconds. Next thing - presto! The old archived video clips play like I just shot them.
    6) I then hook up the camcorder to my Sony VRD-MC5 DirectDVD. I can then make a one-touch DVD of some or all of the clips for use in my BlueRay player.
At any time I can mount a disc image on the desktop and open iMovie. I can then import all/some of the clips from the mounted disc image (whcih is just an AVCHD folder) and go about making my movie.
But I'm usually happy with just being able to make a simple DVD for viewing with family/friends. Note that for all of this to work as well as it does I needed to buy Toast, a Blueray player and the Sony DirectDVD. But it was worth it as I can now easily archive all my footage safe in the knowledge that it is all readily transferable into iMovie or onto a playable DVD at any time.
To anyone else out there struggling to get to grips with their new HD AVCHD camcorder I hope this has been of some use. Again, thanks to Appleman for helping me out. There is no doubt an even easier process that I am unaware of but so far this is working out well for me. My original post is at: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7118597#7118597

    Thanks for posting your experience.
If you move the entire contents of your camera instead of just the AVCHD folder, you should be able to mount your disk image and import directly from there, without having to plug in your camera and transfer it back there. I haven't tried this in Toast, but it should work. It works well in disk utility.
Also, just FYI since you have all the tools, I have found that if I create a playable BluRay DVD using a standard DVD using Toast, I can insert the DVD in my Mac, and it is recognized as a camera. I can then import the edited movie back into imovie.

  • No trim on Video when exporting for archiving

I am using Premiere Pro CS4 with latest updates.
For the first time with CS4 I am using the Program Manager to archive my project.
When creating a new trimmed project  it copies the full clip for every used clip-part in the project instead of a trimmed clip.
When several parts of a long clip are used in the project it  results in a archived project that uses more storage capacity  than the original project.
Has anyone experienced the same issue?

The clips are in .mpeg (HDV) and captured with PPro.
It think you're  right that it has something to do with the format.
I've done a test after converting the .mpeg files to .avi with Cineform Intermediate plug-in  and now PPro doesn't trim or copy any clip file.
This sounds as PPro doesn't recognise some formats.
Still strange I cannot find anything on suported formats in help or internet on this topic.

  • Premiere Pro CC's sequence lost. Is there a way to "search" for it from outside the project?

I seem to have lost a sequence created in Premiere Pro CC. I can't find it anywhere inside the Project bin.
We have so many same-name, older projects (between Auto-Save, different drives and so on) that looking inside each of them would take forever.
But we do know the name of the sequence. I am wondering  if there is a way to "search" for a sequence name from outside the project?
    Thanks

there is a way to "search" for a sequence name outside of the project,
but it would be a pointless waste of time.
sequences are only saved within the project file itself!!
We have so many same-name, older projects (between Auto-Save, different drives and so on) that looking inside each of them would take forever.
    better get at it then!
    hahahahahahahaha!!!

  • VS 2013 - SQL Server Projects - Can I Change defaults for SQL Servers to use and the paths to DB-files?

    Hi all,
when a create a SQL Server Project using "File > New ...", I find the following settings defaulted:
    SQL Server is (local)\Version12.0 and
DefaultDataPath, DefaultFileprefix and the DefaultFilename(s) for MDFs and LDFs point to the Project directory.
Initial settings of file size and increments are also not settable but defaulted.
Because my projects have to verify performance by testing with large volume of data, we have to use a different SQL Server with files stored on that Server. The Project settings have a button to changes DB properties, but these are not part of that
    dialog.
So I spent some fruitless hours in vain to find a way to change the project's connection to my development SQL Servers.
    How to cope with that?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards Uwe

    Hi Caillen,
thanks for Your response. I have to apologize for being a little late with my answer. I'll try to clarify my case more precisely:
This is surely a topic related to VS2013 handling new "SQL Server Database Projects". When one clicks "OK" the following steps are executed by VS2013 (surely controlled by standard templates or the like):
VS2013 creates the new project in a selectable directory and uses the projectname as a subdirectory whre the directory elements (*.sqlproj, bin\, obj\) where  later all the *.sql are placed, too. This is normal and expected.
VS2013 creates a new database with its DB-files
and attaches it to "(localdb)\ProjectsV12". The name of the database is the name of the project. The path to the DB-files (*.mdf and ldf) and their sizes are also defaulted to small values. The DB-server and the
path to the DB-files is taken from the registry (!) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0\SSDT\LocalDbDatabaseFilePaths. I don't know when and by what tools these values are set.
The path to DB-Files is typically also the path to the projects. The (local)-server places all system database files in the User\<user-ID>\Appdata\.. tree. Which is OK for small databases. The templates extracts some data from the DB-file path and
places it in the deployment SQLs to populate the SQLCMD variables DefaultDataPath, DefaultFileprefix and the DefaultFilename(s) which are generated when pressing "Executed" or "Debug" the project.
My problem is that we have to test database performance with larger volumes of data (e.g. two million rows and more). These cannot be stored in the User-path but must be handled by some kind of professional DB-Manager on various storage devices. When everything
is tested, the publishing function of VS2013 will extract the structure and you are done incl. all the performance taming things.
The dialog from the project properties can change to a different Server, but that server does not know your project database. The server and the DB-Files should be specified by the developer before VS2013 creates the database.
So  the right forum would be a forum, where people developing SQL Server solutions with VS2013 are reading the questions.
    Thanks again for your patience.
    Regards Uwe

  • Convert Multiple Outlook Emails to Multiple PDF Files (Not Portfolio or Single PDF) for Archiving?

Hi all, I am learning how to convert emails to PDF files and there is some great functionality there!!  I have not discovered how to convert multiple outlook emails into multiple PDF files (one PDF file for each email) - all at the same time (not one at a time)!!  Is there a way to do this using Acrobat X??  The purpose of this is for long-term business archiving.  When I search for an email in the archive, I do not want to pull up a portfolio containing 1000 emails or a 1000 page PDF file with multiple emails run together!!!  I want to pull up individual emails containing my search terms.  I have been searching for a way to archive emails and MS OUTLOOK .PST files are NOT the answer.  I get a lot of business emails with large attachments and I do not file my emails in separate sub-folders (by client or job).  I want to convert multiple emails (by date range) from my UNIVERSAL INBOX into multiple PDF files for long term storage (with each email being converted into its own, separate PDF file and named with the same name as the "Re: line" of the email).  This has been a HUGE problem for me....and Acrobat is sooooo close to the solution for me.  Can anyone help??  If so, will attachments be converted?  If not, is there a separate software program or add-in that I can buy that will do this??  I use MS Office 2010, Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Windows 7 64 BIT.  Thanks for your help!!

I am a retired person and did'nt realize I already have a Adobe account, so you can scrap the entire information. Thanks for the trial anyway and have a great week.

  • 10.2 crashes when I try to convert old libraries for use in the new software. Is there a workaround for this? Or will i have to continue using the previous version to complete older projects?

Final Cut Pro X 10.2 crashes when I try to convert old libraries for use in the new software. Is there a workaround for this? Or will I have to continue using the previous version to complete older projects? the only foreseeable solution is to begin any new projects on 10.2 or importing footage on 10.2 and starting form scratch--which is something i definitely don't want to do or have time to do. ANY advice, thoughts, or opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Exactly the same problem with me.
Some other threads advice to remove fonts, clean the caches, remove add ins but nothing works consistenty, for some it looks like it works, for me it failed.
What I did not try yet, was to move the Render files out of the malicious library to trash.
