Converting Olympus .ORF files in PSE10

PSE 10/Camera RAW 6.7 won't recognize the .ORF raw files from my Olympus XZ-2. Is there anything I can do about this?

For the Olympus STYLUS XZ-2 iHS, you have two alternatives:
(1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.3
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.3
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

That camera model is too new for your programs. Every camera has its own raw format and ACR must be updated to include the info for each new model as it comes out. The workaround would be to download the free Adobe DNG converter and use that to convert your ORFs to DNGs that your version of Camera Raw can read.

  • ACR 4.5 behaves different from 4.4.1 with Olympus ORF files

In the last weeks I shot raw files (ORF; Olympus UZ570)and first used ACR 4.4.1. Auto Tone option. Later on I used ACR 4.5 on the same files and noted that especially the brightness was substantially different after using Auto Tone; other values were hardly affected. Typical example a brightness value of 53 with ACR 4.4.1 changed to 6 in ACR 4.5
This behaviour results in regularly under-exposed pictures.
    Any thoughts/ideas/causes?
    Thanks,
    Nick

I've always been curious about this. Is auto-tone a one-time thing or will an engine with different
algorithms apply different auto-toning retroactively? Seems like the former is preferred but I've
    never known for sure.

  • OLYMPUS .ORF FILE EDIT AND SAVE BACK TO .ORF?

    Hello,
I am trying to edit a photo in some way and transfer it back to my camera so that the camera treats the file as the original .ORF.
Anyone know how i may do this?
    Thanks

    > You can't. ACR can't modify the original raw file,
DNG it can (and DNG can be the original raw file from camera - like Pentax)... for example embedded JPG preview
    > and I doubt any other raw file editor will do it either.
Sigma's SPP will do that too (w/ .X3F raw files)

  • .orf files won't open in CS2 (Olympus E-3)

I recently purchased an Olympus E-3 (previously owned E-330). I use CS2 and Windows XP Media. I am new to shooting RAW images and just got back from a trip where I shot RAW (.ORF) images.
I updated my DNG converter (Tried both 3.7 and 4.5) and Camera Raw to 3.7 (as that is the highest level supported by CS2). The list of supported cameras include the E-3. But I still get the error message that it can't complete your request because "it is not the right kind of document."
I try to use the DNG Converter, click on convert and get a message there was an "error parsing the image." So I am not able to convert the .orf files to .dng so I can open in ACR as instructed.
Since the E-3 should be supported in Camera Raw according to the adobe website, why am I getting this error message? I really enjoy the flexibility of photoshop Camera Raw and wish to continue. I am able to open the .orf files in Olympus Master 2.0 so I believe the files to be intact.
I have confirmed that the DNG Converter.exe and the Camera Raw file is installed according the Adobe instructions (removed old one, installed new on in the correct folders-Checked and Double Checked.
I rebooted the computer after install. I am still able to open the .orf files from my E-330 in photoshop. So I don't think PS is configured incorrectly and that Camera Raw is functioning.
What is the best and easiest way to open these files in Photoshop? I am stuck with a ton of .ORF images that I cannot open. Please help!

    >Just to clarify: The DNG Converter does not get "installed". It's a stand-alone application to convert the raw files to DNG files first, which you then (later) open in ACR.
Semantics I guess. What I was saying was that I was using the DNG Converter 4.5 (the latest version) and ACR 3.7 (latest version for CS2) and it was in the correct folder according to the instructions that are on the Adobe download instructions. However, I was still following the procedure of trying to convert the .orf file using the DNG Converter, but no success. And since I was unable to convert to .dng, I was unable to attempt to use ACR.
    However, Good news.
Since I did get a response that someone using the same configuration of E-3 and CS2 had no problems converting to .dng, I decided to once again check versions, folders, etc. and then reboot. Now everything is working.
Now I can convert the ORF files to DNG using DNG Converter 4.5, and then open those in ACR 3.7! (Same files, same version, same folder).
Who knows! Operator error - maybe- but I swear I repeatedly check and rebooted last night. Maybe I just held my mouth correctly on this reboot.
Again thank you for all your help. I just hope this helps someone else if they have the same issue. Mysteries...

  • Olympus .ORF from OM-D E-M5 in Lightroom 3.6

    1. is there  a way to import the Olyimpus RAW .ORF fro the OM-D E-M5 directly in Lightroom 3.6 like I was used with the Nikon .NEF format?
    2. is there a step-by-step how-do description?
    Thanks,
    Angelo

Camera support for raw files is provided by regular updates. Each and every new camera model has to be done individually.
Support for the Olympus OM-D-EM5 was introduced in LR 4.1. Since this is a new version of Lightroom and LR 3.6 will not have any further updates you will either have to
    a. Upgrade to LR 4 or
    b. Utilize the latest DNG converter to convert the .ORF files from your camera to .dng and you will then be able to use LR 3.6 to process the .dng copies. (best to also retain a copy of you .orf files if you also wish to utilize the software provided by Olympus.)

  • Aperture imports the raw images from my new Olmpus e-p5 as .orf files and does not recognize them. What can I do?

Is there another way to convert the .orf files that are not being recognized ?
    I used a card reader.
The Olympus Viewer software reads the raw images just fine.
    Thanks

I do not see your camera on the list of supported cameras, sorry.
Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
The Olympus Viewer software reads the raw images just fine.
Does this program have an otion to export the photos in a different format? Then it would be the best way to convert the image files to a supported format.
Or check, if Adobe's free DNG converter supports your camera:  Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh
Aperture can import DNG files with the right settings.
You might also simply import raw+jpeg and work with the jpegs as original files, while you are waiting for the raw support to be released.

  • Question about converting my RAW files to DNG

I've shot with Nikon, Olympus, and Panasonic so I'm familiar with all their proprietary RAW formats that each uses. I'd like to convert all my RAW files to DNG and then use that on import into LR going forward. I noticed that the DNG files from the Panasonic or Olympus images don't display a thumbnail in my finder folders (Mac OS X) so I tried some experiments.
I used the "convert to DNG" function in LR for some RAW files from each of the 3 cameras. Only the images taken with the Nikon D5300 show a thumbnail image in my finder folder. The Oly and Panny shots only display the DNG icon. Next I used the "export to DNG" function thinking that might make the thumbnail available but it was just the same. I would like to be able to see the images in my finder folders and also be able to open them to view in "preview" but only the Nikon converted DNGs will open in preview and not the Panny or Oly DNGs. Am I doing something wrong in the preferences? I've attached a screen shot of my preferences settings for DNG in LR and the thumbs that I'm seeing in my finder folders.
These are the settings I have set in preferences in LR
This is my Nikon NEF image converted to DNG    and my Panasonic RAW image converted to DNG (same thing happens with Olympus ORF files)

I probably missed this detail in what you’ve posted, but do you see the thumbnails of the three cameras’ raw files in Finder if you don’t convert to DNG?
What has happened in the past is that the Apple raw interpreter doesn’t read thumbnails of DNGs it doesn’t like, where at least one thing it didn’t used to like was embedded lens corrections for mirrorless cameras.  Are the Olympus and Panasonic mirrorless—meaning there is no optical viewfinder and everything is seen on an LCD screen or perhaps an electronic view finder?  If so the reason these are different is that the camera is doing the lens distortion corrections automatically and this information is stored in the raw files and in the DNGs but Apple doesn’t know how to use these embedded lens corrections or doesn’t know how to read the newer DNG spec that does allow for this information to be embedded in the DNG, at least.
Apple could just extract the embedded jpg preview and ignore the other parts of the file it doesn’t understand, but it apparently doesn’t do this.
What I’m not sure about is if the Apple raw interpreter still has this problem or if you’re on an older system without the latest updates for camera raw decoding by Apple.

  • Cant open raw file in pse10

how can I open a raw (orf) file created by olympus ep5 camera in pse 10
    kevin

    Hi,
A raw file from the Olympus E-P5 cannot be opened directly in PSE 10 as it it a new camera.
    You need to
    1) Buy PSE 12
    or
    2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5694
    MAC: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5695
Once installed, use the converter to convert the ORF files to DNG files and then import the DNG files into PSE 10.

  • Is there a Camera Raw plug in to allow import of ORF files from my OM-D E-M1 Olympus camera?

Can I import Olympus raw files, ORF, into bridge?

The T1i was first supported by Camera Raw 5.4 which is only compatible with CS4 and later
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
    Some options:
    Upgrade to CS6
    Join the Cloud
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all T1i Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS3

  • Snow leopard and orf file from Olympus OMD EM1

Hello, is there any chance to see the preview of these orf file without upgrading to 10.8.5 or later?
I have Aperture 3.2.4 with Digital Camera Raw 3.13.0 and it works fine with the Olympus E 620 orf files.
I can see the preview of these orf also from desktop. without opening Aperture.
Upgrading to Olympus OMD EM1, the new orf files aren't read anymore...it seems that  I need Digital camera Raw 5.03 to see them, but the dmg can't be opened with 10.6.8....
I don't want to upgrade , because I like very much Snow leopard, but it is frustrating not to see the preview of the Olympus EM1 orf files...every time I have to open them with Olympus Raw Converter ( Olympus Viewer 3), that is very slow....
    Any suggestion?
    Thank You for the attention
    Bye
    Susanna

Hy Brody, thank You for your kind reply
I think that I won't be able to fix this because I've read somewhere that Preview share the same raw converter of Aperture and IPhoto, but I run Aperture 3.2.4 ( Aperture 3.5 is required for EM1 and doesn't support my SL !!) and a very old Iphoto ( I don't use it since a long time ago), that I can upgrade only to 9.2.3.
Now I must find if Iphoto 9.2.3 can open these raw from EM1, so probably also Preview could...but I'm not hopefully.
    Thank U very much again!!

  • Why can't I import olympus e-p1 orf files

I have just downloaded Lightroom CC. When I try to import Olympus E-P1 .ORF files I get constant error messages, such as unsupported or damaged files.
The same files still import properly into Lightroom 5.
    Any ideas?

re: ) but cannot initiate installation by clicking on it -- it won't open.
Have you added the Addon to Thunderbird?
    * In Thunderbird, 'Tools' > 'Add-ons'
    * Add-ons Manager opens in new tab
    * click on the daisy wheel icon and select 'Install addon from file'
    * locate the saved .xpi file and click on 'open'
It should show up in the 'Add-ons Manager' tab.
have you restarted Thunderbird? - yes you say you have.
then you said " I restarted TB and went to Tools> Import"
Tools> Import" is incorrect. You need to use the tool you have just added.
    * Select 'Local Folders'
    * in Thunderbird ''''Tools' > 'ImportExporttools' > 'import messages''''
    * locate the folder where you saved your .eml files
    * select files and click on 'open'

  • Cannot import ORF-files from Olympus E-520

    Hi,
One of my friends has this problem:
When he plugs in his new Olympus E-520 to iPhoto '08, and clicks 'import', this output comes:
    http://upit.jtw.dk/dl/q29/
Sorry about it being in danish, but basicly what it says is that the files are unreadable, and cannot be imported for that reason. This seems strange to me, as iPhoto should support ORF-files.
Also I have not been able to find anyone with a similar problem on the internet.
    Why Apple, oh why ?..

Is your friend shooting RAW format? If so then the camera is not supported. Mac OS X 10.5: Digital camera RAW formats supported.
Have him try using Image Capture or a card reader to get the files to the desktop and see if they will import from there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Trouble importing ORF files from E-PL5 into LR5.3

Hello, A small percentage of the RAW files from my Olympus E-PL5 look "blurry" or "out of focus" when viewed using LR5.3 (Windows 8.1).  However, most of the RAW files from this camera look fine when viewed in LR (even pictures from the same shooting session).  When I view the "blurry" files using Olympus Viewer 2, they no longer look out of focus.  I can then edit these files using viewer 2 with no difficulties.  Does anyone have an idea as to what I am doing wrong?  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I mean ORF files. Found out after some reading it's due to the version PS10. Converted files to .DNG and then it can be imported. Thanks
