Converting .OV to .ASF to play on a Windows Media Server

Hello everyone,
I am trying to create a good quality video file from Final Cut Pro that will stream on a Windows Media Server. I am being told by the tech guys at my work that it needs to stream as an .asf file because we use a Windows Media Server for our media here.
I have searched but as far as I can tell there seems to be no direct plugin for Final Cut to export as an ASF or a WMV file.
I work for a college, and I use a Mac to create our videos, but most people use PCs here to do everything else - including our technicians and web developers - so most people here are in the dark.
I am really stuck here folks. Ideally, I want to be able to stream video files of about 60mbs on our college website - and find a way to have these videos running on a Windows Media Server.
Thanks a lot - if anyone can help me I would be extremely grateful.
Simon

Thanks so much for all your responses.
I will trial the two programmes that have been mentioned - in terms of streaming .asf I am still in the dark as to the best way to proceed.
Would you all recommend converting first to a WMV file and then using a PC and related software to convert to .ASF - as I would have to do with Flip4Mac
Or... using software that will convert directly from .MOV to .ASF on a Mac - as the Aimersoft programme seems to suggest it does?
Thanks once again - I have been really impressed and really grateful with how quick these forums are to help people out!

i want to convert the MPEG-4 Audio (.m4a) to a window media audio file,  i downloaded some songs so i can run them with a photo slide show on my samsung video.  the machine would not play them (could not find them)  the files that work are all windows media audio

You can't convert to WMA with iTunes. I'd be surprised if the software can't read mp3 files. iTunes can convert to that. Otherwise there are free format converters out on the web. The suite from http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ is handy and includes an audio convertor. There is no need to install their toolbar or any other 3rd party software that gets offered.

  • I bought an album on iTunes, and one of the songs plays for 7 seconds, then it stops playing. I even tried to play it in Windows Media Player and it didn't work there either. How do I make it work or get my money back?

    Please help.

Music purchased and downloaded from iTunes will not play in the Windows Media Player.
Try re downloading the album >

  • How do i play itunes in windows media

How can I play itunes in windows media?  I can burn in windows media, but in itunes it says it can't find the device.  Please advise.

You don't "play iTunes" in Windows Media. Both of these apps are media players: one native to Mac OSX-- iTunes and the other native to MS-- XP; Vista; Win7. The popularity of iPods initially, then iPhones and now iPads caused Apple to make iTunes+QuickTime available for Windows users who wanted to own and use those mobile devices but retain their Windows machines. The issue that you are asking is whether or not you can play your audio files in WinMedia instead of in iTunes. Yes, you can. You will need to launch Windows Media player and import into the library the audio files which are "living" in iTunes. Actually they are in the "My Music" folder of your home on the C: drive.

  • TS1717 i recently downloaded two tracks from itunes: they will not play in my windows media center even though i have added them to that location. any idea what other trouble shooting i can attempt on this issue??

i recently downloaded two tracks from itunes and they will not play in my windows media center. i have never had this problem but the two tracks play on my PC just not in the windows media center and usually all my itunes music plays in there no problem??? any idea what to do? thanks

I'm searching for an answer to almost the same exact problem, using almost the same exact hardware and software. Has an answer been found?
The files that I'm trying to burn come from eMusic, and they are formatted mp3. Recently, (after the iTunes update to 9.2.3?,) they would not drag and drop from iTunes into Toast. From several different discussions I've tried working around this by dragging to the desktop first then dragging and dropping to Toast, going to Toast from a programmer's homemade help window, " iToons," and today, after talking with Apple support, going directly to Toast from my eMusic folder. Alas, all recordings do not perform like they use to. Sometimes they play and sometimes not. There is one I managed, that is listenable, but sometimes I have to put it in my car stereo over and over again as it gets ejected with an error code, sometimes, finally it takes it... Some of the recordings on other disks I've burned are not clean - they have white-noise sounds creeping in... I use to have none of these problems. One time as I was listening to a CD that managed to play, and it just stopped playing... Is there an answer out there to get back to how it use to be? Thanks for you help.

  • Play subtitles in Windows Media player

Hello , This is Question for Adobe CC Premiere 7.2.1
Has anyone succeeded in above program to play in WMP an embeded  file  (export scc and media file)  ? I  sucesfully to export (media file and scc) and than play a embeded subtitles in Quick time player but for wmp i don't know what else I should  do. i export (media file and scc) in WMA format on the  similar way as for the QTP, I exported instead  in QTP  format I choose Windows Media from menu . File-> Export->Media->Format->Windows MEdia I use win 7 and wmp 12 version  . I choose option in WMP ''Play subtitles if it available'' but it still doesn't appear.
I hope that you  understand my grammar and problem and that you will help me , regards from Slovenia . .

Thx for answer to both person.
I think that such  simple feature (convert to wmp format) is only a war against the Microsott  user
but it is a very sad moment reputation of Adobe CC usefulness.
Also there are many things which I wonder why  Adobe CC have not.
I wonder if it does not want or it can not have. I have in mind why there isn't realized
to export scc (maked in CC) in other useful format such as srt or sub.
I think these are great ''little'' things that people need and more respect and use Adobe Premiere CC.

  • RE: export to play on a windows media player

I am forced by the IT department to put a video onto windows media player, Which format works the best, I want to share a 15 min video over the net. ANY help or advice would be appreciated. I have tried AVI but the video looks like crap, compared to QT.

  • Playing video in Windows Media Player

Ok I know, I'm the dreaded Windows user in the Apple forum. But I have good questions and as soon as I can afford it I'm getting an Apple laptop.
Why can't I play the videos I downloaded in Windows Media Player 10? I'm pretty sure it's because I don't have a codec to play a .m4v file but where can I get one? Any help?
    Thanks all
    Alienware   Windows XP Pro

as soon as I can afford it I'm getting an Apple laptop.
    Bravo!
EDIT: I miread your post. I'll renanswer differently this time.
Why can't I play the videos I downloaded in Windows Media Player 10? I'm pretty sure it's because I don't have a codec to play a .m4v file but where can I get one? Any help?
Because Windows media is competing technology. Since there's no real video "standard", different manufacturers use their own proprietary formats whenever they can.
Depending on the video files you have, you might be able to convert them into some format that can be played on the iPod or in iTunes.
Since I'm not a Windows user, I am not familiar with the format of videos downloaded using WMP.
Try to look for a converter that will put your videos into one of the following formats:
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
If you can get your video into one of the above two formats, it will work just fine on the iPod.
Many conversion utilities have been mentioned in these forums. I believe Videora iPod Converter is popular amongst Windows users. I can't recommend it, since I have no experience with it. I just see it mentioned a lot. Seems users have had mixed results using it.

  • QT7Pro - DVD's won't play - defers to Windows Media

I just purchased QT7Pro. Installation seemed to go well. Followed directions to start movie that I placed in dvd on computer. Won't open in QT7, goes to Windows Media Player. Access options in control panel shows both programs. Tried to set default to QT7, does not take. Any advise???

Since I don't use the MPEG-2 Playback Component my answers may be out of line. I play my DVD files using built in Apple software.
I suppose that you would have to first insert the DVD and then dismiss the default software application that wants to "play" it.
Open QT Player and navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder found on the DVD, open it using QuickTime Pro and click OK in the QuickTime dialog.
Others can chime in if my suggestions don't work.

  • Can't play videos on Windows Media Player from Xperia z3

I have recorded som videos and while trying to load them onto my computer via USB some show up and others just play the sound without the video?
Can anyone help with this problem?

Hi Gearld, welcome to the community!
I would advise transferring the files through PC Companion using the Media Go app like Phy has suggested & also playing the videos through VLC player rather than Windows Media Player as this VLC player can read a large number of formats and is most likely to play your videos smoothly.

  • CS4 using a Mac and want to play video using windows media player

Hi I am having issues with file types to play video back using Windows media player.
I am producing video using Premiere CS4 on a Mac and I need to know what format to use to have the files play in windows media player as .mp4 is not compatable with wm player.
    Thanks

I have Windows Media Player installed on my PC workstation and I do remember installing a codec so that MP4 files could play in WMPlayer 11 on Windows Vista 64-bit (should work on 32-bit also)
look near the bottom section of this link for further information.  The codec is called DirectShow
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316992#34
Otherwise if you're posting videos on a webpage for example in the mp4 format use the Quicktime html wrapper so that people using Mac's can also view your videos that are encoded for PC's.  If you encode in wmv format (Windows Media Video) then provide a link to the "Flip4Mac" application that can use Quicktime on the Mac to play Windows Media Files.  I think you can find it on www.mactopia.com .

  • Play Vodcast in Windows Media Player format on Apple TV

I would like to view a video podcast (can only play on RealPlayer or Windows Media Player) on my Apple TV and iMac. How can I make this work?
    Michiel

Yeah, try Flip4Mac. If you want, post a link to the vodcast and we can see if it plays thru F4M, but it probably will. F4M is the way to view WMV content on a Mac now....WM Player is no longer supported by Microsoft for Mac's.

  • I definitely have put this under the wrong catergory but i don't care, I was wondering why everytime i click on a video to play it says: Windows media player has stopped working

Ok, so I made a video with Bandicam, and every time I click on it to play it (it is saved as an MP4), it just says: Windows Media Player has stopped working. Then it gives me two choices: Close the program OR look online for a solution. I REALLY want to
post these videos, but I can't. If anyone could help that would be great!

    Hi juderocks14,
Please first take a check with the other Players and see if they could play the MP4 file normally. If it can't be played, which means it might be corrupted. You may ask at the Bandicam side, or save the files again.
If issue insists, take a try with the Troubleshooter (For Windows 7, 8 and 8.1):
Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter
Fix Windows Media Player video, and other media or library issues
Or you may try to turn Windows Features on or off to reset Windows  Media Player:
Turn Windows features on or off (Before turn it on again, please remember to reboot first)
