Converting Pagemaker 7.0 to CS3 fuzzy pictures

I'm trying to convert all of my pagemaker documents to InDesign CS3.  However, a good majority of my pictures are fuzzy.  How can I convert the documents without retaking all of my pictures (there are hundreds of pictures per document).  Thanks!

Correct, we're in there everyday changing these documents.  Only about half of the pictures are fuzzy and the other half are not.  Any ideas why the one half aren't fuzzy?  I could try to fix them in pagemaker...
Check your View > Display Performance and set it to "High Quality" and disable "Allow Object Level Display Settings" if your images are reasonable in size and the system will draw the screen without major slowdown.
If the probelm is in print, make sure in the print dialog you change the default "Optimized Subsampling" to "All" in the Send Data field of the graphics pane (it's a good idea to do that, anyway).

  • Need to convert PageMaker 6.5 Plus files from Windows XP to PDF for Windows 7.

I need to convert PageMaker 6.5 Plus files into PDF from a Windows XP operating system to a Windows 7 operating system. It tells me I need a postscript printer. I don't have a postscript printer and really don't want to print them. I just want to transfer the files from Windows XP to Windows 7. Help!!

No, it isn't telling you that you need a PostScript printer. It's telling you that you need a PostScript printer DRIVER, which is software, not a printer.
Use the Add Printer function to add an Apple LaserWriter IINTX. That's a PostScript printer. Then try again.
I don't quite understand the Windows 7 connection, though. What are you hoping to achieve by making a PDF. You WON'T be able to edit them, if that's the idea.

  • How can I convert Pagemaker 7.0 file to InDesign CS5.5?

I have problem with open pagemaker file to InDesign CS5.5. Before I was using PageMaker 7.0. Now I have InDesign CS5.5 & tried to convert my old file to InDesign. But I am having problem to convert. When I convert Pagemaker File, all text looks uncleare and unredable. I can't edit text and tables. Below is a image after converting from pagemaker.

Start by reading the InDesign Help section on opening PageMaker files.  It suggests some steps to do IN PAGEMAKER BEFORE you do the conversion:
•If the PageMaker file or its linked graphics are located on a network server, floppy disk, or removable drive, it may not open as expected if an interruption in data transfer occurs. To prevent data transfer problems, copy documents and their links to the hard disk, preferably in the same folder where the PageMaker publication is stored, before opening them in InDesign.
•You may want to use Save As in PageMaker to clear unnecessary hidden data.
•To ensure that all links are maintained, copy all linked files to the same folder where the PageMaker publication is stored.
•Make sure that all necessary fonts are available in InDesign.
•Repair broken graphics links in the PageMaker publication.
•If you have a problem converting a large PageMaker document, convert portions of the PageMaker file separately to isolate the problem.

  • Fuzzy pictures in bridge preview

Some of the pictures in preview window comes out fuzzy, I cleared the cache several times, but didn't help. Any suggestions? Fuzzy pictures opens up in Photoshop fine.
    Photoshop version CS6 13.0.3X64
    Mac OS 10.8.2

    am I right?
No, you are wrong, the main difference between Bridge CS5 and CS6 is the transition from 32 bit to 64 bit, a different cache structure (again) and a few minor improvements, nothing further.
And if CS6 did not offer the quality settings it would be next to useless...

  • Fuzzy picture... like digital snow over everything

I just set up my appleTV and when the picture comes up it seems like there's digital snow all over the screen. I tested my network connection and it was good. My download speed is good. I'm connected thru my Denon home theater receiver via monster HDMI cable. What is causing this and how can I fix it?
    Thank
    Dreadman

Wow... I'm answering my own question! Anyway, I was getting fuzzy picture when I first set up my apple tv... Network Signal was fine but still the picture was grainy. After a few hours of trial and error... and a call from a home theater buddy of mine I got it solved. Make sure you are using up to date and working HDMI cables. I cannot stress what a difference that makes. I changed the HDMI cable from my receiver to my screen and voila' AppleTV was looking fabulous! If your HDMI cable are more than a couple of years old or cheap... REPLACE THEM. NOW IF I COULD ONLY GET HULU ON MY APPLE TV

  • Converting Pagemaker 7.0 to InDesignCS2

When we first purchased InDesign, it converted PMD files easily and with little trouble. Now that we're on CS2, I get the same error message every time I try and open an older PMD file. It says the document is damaged and cannot be recovered. That's not really true, as I can still open it in Pagemaker.
Any ideas what I can do to retrieve the information in the PMD files? We have numerous files that we need to draw from and not having the ability to convert anymore is a real problem. Do we need to upgrade to CS3 in order to fix this?
Please advise as soon as possible! :)
    Thanks!

    Sounds like this problem:

  • Error converting Pagemaker file to PDF

    Hi there,
I've been trying endlessly to convert an Adobe PageMaker 7.0  file to PDF. I've followed the process of "click on File, and then Export to PDF"; however, during the conversion process, an error message always pops up:
"When you create a PDF file, you have to send the host fonts. Please go to the Acrobat distiller printer properties, 'Adobe PDF settings page' and turn off the option "Don't send fonts to Distiller."
I've searched tirelessly where this option can be found and unchecked, but it seems elusive.
Can you help with this please?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
Thanks for posting. Unfortunately, at this time Acrobat.com doesn't support the conversion of Pagemaker files to PDF. For a list of supported formats, please see our help page on converting to PDF:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat.com/Using/WS4c4da310f3b0910a64131dac123f400852b-8000.h tml
What you're trying to do is possible with the desktop version of Acrobat; if this is an urgent need and you don't currently have a copy of Acrobat, I would try downloading a free 30-day trial version here:

    I hope this is helpful!

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS4 converted FLV files have sound but no picture

    Hi,
It would be great if anyone can help - I am using the latest trial version of Flash CS4. I have used the Media Encoder to convert mpg4 files to FLV however the resultant files play with sound but no picture - just a black screen. Is there a solution to this issue?

mostly this problem is caused by lacking of
some nessery codec. Which means when reencoding your video to flv, it can not generate the video.
Does Riva FLV encoder needs any extra codec? I am using Moyea Flash Video MX 6. It do not need any extra code. It needs in the former versions but in version 6 it can convert nearly any video format now.

  • Saving previously converted InDesign CS1 files in CS3

My company recently upgraded from CS1 to CS3 (skipping CS2 altogether). I've noticed that after I open some CS1 layouts previously converted to CS3, when I hit <Save>, I get a <Save As> type dialog box where I either have to rename the file, or overwrite the file. This doesn't happen with layout files created originally in CS3. Is there some setting in CS3 that is constantly forcing this <Save As> type behavior on previously converted CS1 layouts? It's more of an inconvenience, than an actual problem, but annoying nonetheless.

I understand converting/re-writing the file format to the updated (in this case, CS3) format, and am well used to this process from older InDesign file formats. What I'm experiencing is this: (1) I open up a CS1 layout file in CS3; (2) CS3 converts the layout; (3) I go to Save the file & CS3 prompts me with a <Save As> type dialog box; (4) I then either overwrite the existing CS1 layout file, rename the new CS3 layout or save it to a new location; (5) I close out the new CS3 layout. This is all expected behavior. However, when I go back later to re-open the newly "converted" CS3 layout file, the first time I go to <Save> the new changes to the file, I'm AGAIN prompted with a <Save As> type dialog. The file's already been converted to the CS3 format, so shouldn't it just automatically <Save> the file changes in a normal manner?

  • [CS3] [JS] Picture placement error

    Hi,
I've created a script, creating a contactsheet from a folder of pictures.
Everything works fine except for one small detail.
When importing an illustrator document which uses missing fonts, the script trows a messagebox asking me if its ok to place the picture with the missing fonts.
Is this something I can override ? The picures must be placed, even if the fonts are missing.
    ... some code ...
    var myRectangle2 = doc.pages[doc.pages.count() - 1].rectangles.add();
    myRectangle2.place(arrFiles[s]);
    myRectangle2.fit(FitOptions.proportionally);
    Thanx
    Tim
    Indesign CS3 / Os X

If you positively want to suppress user interaction, inserting
    >app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.neverInteract;
somewhere before the optionally interacting command should work. Add
    >app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.interactWithAll;
    after it, otherwise you will
    b never
get any dialogs after running the script. A common mistake, which has baffled many a script user. I guess it's safest to put the "Off" line directly before, and the "On" line directly after the optionally interacting command (in your case the .place line). That way you still get error messages and dialogs for those cases you did not foresee. This will still mess up your settings if for some reason InDesign crashes and burns on the .place command itself, so you should have a single line script ready that just contains the "On" line.

  • Converting Pagemaker 7.0 mac platform to indesign cs pc platform

Is it possible to convert a file from mac platform pagemaker 7.0 to the pc plateform Indesign CS?

If possible, it is a good practice to open the PM file in PageMaker. Make sure all links are up-to-date. Make sure all fonts are present. Do a Save-As for good measure. And aferwards open the file in InDesign. InDesign will open and convert to an InDesign document which you thereafter save.

  • Assistance in converting/downgrading CS5 file to CS3 version?

    Hi,
I noticed in a few other threads that several kind members of this forum have offered to convert files that were created in InDesign CS5 (in my case a trial version) into a format compatible with InDesign CS3 (which I have installed on my system).  I apologize in advance if this is not the appropriate way to go about asking for this favor...I am just unsure of what else to do.  I can clearly see now that there is nothing I can do on my end with these files, and am in a bit of a jam. I have two single-page documents that I can't access anymore, and would be greatly appreciative if anyone could help make them useable again on my system.  Thank you, and again I apologize if this is an improper way to go about this.

Thank you SOOO much Peter--saved me countless hours of frustration!

  • Convert pagemaker to PDF

    Hello
One of my clients composes a newspaper on MAC using PageMaker and is planning to migrate to InDesign soon. In the meantime, he needs to convert the newpaper to PDF, what is the least expensive option he has ?
    Thank you for your help
    Julio

Not sure I follow all of your arguments.
    - Acrobat XI won't do it (no, not without PageMaker)
    - Distiller is gone (no, it is included with every version of Acrobat AND with PageMaker)
    - Acrobat 7 has to be activated (won't do it without PageMaker; can be installed if you need it)
    - Adobe won't it (??)
You need a computer capable of running PageMaker (e.g. Windows XP) and you need PageMaker. PageMaker includes Distiller.

  • Converting Quark Files to InDesign CS3

Currently have had problems converting a Quark 5.0 file into ID CS3 Windows platform. It is my understanding that ID CS3 only accepts Quark 4.1 and under...is there anyway around this? The person with the Quark 5.0 file is not able to 'Save As' a 4.1 or lower version; the software doesn't allow it. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Email it to me and I'll convert it for you. If you get a lot of these,
you might want to invest in Q2ID from Markzware.

  • Converting to jpg from tif for numerous pictures?

I am finally trying to get photos organized and I would like to print and delete them off my computer. I have noticed that jpg is required format (not tiff) for online print services. I have several tif images. Is there a way to do a massive selection of tif and convert them to jpg or must I use the full screen edit and do it one picture at a time?
Thanks for any hints or suggestions.

    Susan,
Irfanview is a free program for download. This will do a batch conversion from TIF to JPEG outside of Elements, should you so desire.
