Converting PDF Line Drawings back into CAD Formats?

Hi there
First of let me say Hi! I'm Ryan Holden, a design engineer working for General Motors Europe in the UK. Sorry to register and come straight at you with a question but I'm at a bit of a loss and I've always found forums the best way to get advice.
I have an issue at work. I have been sent some drawings by a supplier that I need to make changes to. The drawings have been saved in a PDF format but were generated using the CAD software CATIA V5 R18 (if anyone is familiar with that?).
Is there a way that I can return/reconvert this PDF file back into the .CATDrawing format that the software package generated, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks very much for your help. I must admit I was not optimistic that it was a faesible task and this has pretty much confirmed it. I don't have access to the original CAD file anyway so it makes it a moot point.

Unable to convert PDF files to any other file format using Acrobat XI Pro

When I open a PDF file and try to export file to: Word, RTF, Excel, XML or PowerPoint, I woud receive the error below.
Save As failed to process this document. No file was created.
I recall in the past that I was able to export PDF to Excel & Word. I simply tried the other file formats to see what happens.
Unfortunately for me, this is happening to both of my machines. Same version software except the other machine is Windows 7 Pro. I have admin level rights to both PCs.
Not sure what to do at this point.
As another test, I did the following.
Created a document in Word, then saved as a PDF file. Opened that PDF file to save as a Word doc and I received the error listed above.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

I used another machine. Created a Virtual Machine with Office 2013 and Acobat XI and I do not have issues with converting PDF to any of the available formats. Its not the file I'm using, its the software itself that is the issue.
Unfortunately, I did uninstall Office 2013 & Acrobat XI then reinstalled but I still have the problem so I can only guess once its broken in the registry, I will continue to have an issue.
For now, I'm going to move Acrobat XI on the VM since I dont have time to reinstall Windows 8.

Prevent SWF files from being decompiled back into FLA format

Some programs such as Sothink SWF Decompiler may be used to
decompile the SWF files back into FLA format. Even the ActionScirpt
inside the SWF files can be decompiled as well! No one can even
tell the difference between the original FLA file and the compiled
FLA file! What can we do to prevent this from happening? I heard
that we may protect the SWF files by using ActionScript Obfuscator.
Is it true? How to do that? Please help, I must do something on
it.

It's not true. SWF can't be protected.
There are companies trying to sale products claiming they can
protect SWF
file, don't fall for that.
In order to protect the file they jam the code and name of
variables and functions.
This however does not go w/o consequence. There is only how
much you can mess the
file up before the player will be unable to run it. Very
risky games if you do that.
One of the tools that was doing that, produced files which
stop working with next
player upgrade. From version 7 to 8. Than you just can't open
it anymore.
Secondly, as soon as such tool appear, the producers of
decompilers provide antidotes.
Upgrades with work around for the protection.

How to convert from line chart data to CSV format

Hi ,
I am using Flex 3 and AS.
I am getting data from MS SQL and display the data as line
chart this is ok.
But i want to convert this line chart data to CSV or .xsl
format.I find one example in fourms the from data grid to CSV

Line chart is a just a visual representation of some data
that's sitting in your database. Isn't it? You load this in Flex,
probably using HTTPService class, and pass it to some chart object.
Now when use says that she needs it in CSV format, you're
gonna have to send another request to the server to produce the
same data, convert into CSV or XLS format and let user download it.
Of course, if use doesn't want to download, you don't have to
go to the server, at least for CSV format. You can convert the same
data that used plot the chart to convert to CSV.
Am I missing something here?

Converting a result of query into XML format

Hi,
I am going to use DBXML,DBBOM and DBXSL
ie PLSXML utilities to convert the records returned after querying the data into XML format.Is it possible to do this using these packages?
Should i use Oracle SQL XML Utility?
Which would be better?

I've used both utilities and I personally like the concept of SQL Utility. I'm still
having some problem with encoding issues
but it seems a better tool to use with Java.
If I'm just going to be using PL/SQL, I'll
use PLSXML utilities. Note that PLSXML does
not support SAX nor will XSQL servlet work
with it.

Converted pdf has added characters into headers

Hello , can anyone help.
I have converted a Windows 2003 file to pdf (ver 9 Pro) via the tool buttons in Windows. The converted pdf file has now added characters to my header files. There are no formatting marks/characters in word. Whether tagging is used during converting or not does not matter.

As I recall, this is a setting in how you are printing out from WORD (a word option). The extra characters are related to the formating and it is a selection in word as to whether these are visible or not. There was a post about 6-12 months ago on this issue.

I have several old slideshows (10-15 years old) that I created with Photoshop Album and are PDF files and can only be played with Acrobat Reader 5. I kept Acrobat Reader 5 on my computer and never updated so that I can play these slideshow files. However, I cannot share my slideshows with others since they cannot be played with the PDF format. Can you convert a 3D object back into a 2D layer?

I am drawing out a map of a world and need to design the poles while the layer is in a 3D sphere to prevent distortion. In CS5, I would turn the layer into a 3D.sphere, draw on it to map out the land masses, then turn it back into a 2D layer and refine. However, I can't seem to do this on CS6. Is there a way for me to do that?

double click on the sub layer of the 3d layer in the layer panel. This should open the diffuse layer that you're working on.

How does one convert a text path back into a line path in Illustrator CS 5?

The previous answer to the same question in Nov 2009 does not work for me. That was to copy and paste in front. I've tried every permutation of copy and paste; I renamed the path to path. It looks like a path when I add stroke, but it does not behave like one. I can't cut it or join it to any other path. It remembers it's text path status.
I'm running OS X 10.7.5.

The plus sign in this case means that another selection tool is being used called Group Selection Tool. You can pick it from the Tools panel if you click and hold the mouse on the Direct Selection Tool (white pointer) and then you don't have to hold Option when clicking with it. If you hold Option while using this tool will switch to the Direct Selection Tool (white pointer without the plus sign)
Once there is text on the path. The option-click seems a reliable solution.
Shouldn't make a difference with or without text on the path.

Converting a Java style date into useful format

If I am calling a web service that returns a Java style date as a numeric value, such as 1177651563767 (milliseconds since 1 Jan 1970), how can I display this as a human readable date (hh:mm:ss dd-mm-yyyy? I have looked at the <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/40/a228173435437394f54c56de571ca4/frameset.htm">SAP help pages on date functions</a> and the
<a href="https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/VC/DateandTime+Formats">wiki page on date and time formats</a>, but neither seems to help.
My Java date is a numeric.

you can call the webservice with another webservice or an RFC and then use Java or ABAP to convert the value into the right format. My opinion is as you mentioned that there is no way with VC. Maybe you can use a time function (DADD as it is described <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/40/a228173435437394f54c56de571ca4/frameset.htm">here</a> and sum up to 01/01/1970 your [value in seconds]/60 this should work, but I never tested it.
Maybe this works, but this isn't a good solution anyway.

How do I convert my smart object back into the layers I made it from?

I was working with 100 layers or so and i converted it to a smart object to work with easier. However some of the layers and layer modes don't interact properly with the background that is separate from the smart object. There doesn't seem to be an option to release layers within the smart object. I attempted to solve the problem by dragging the layers from the smart object editable file but it didn't line up within the original file...extremely frustrating. Any solutions? PS6 BETA Lion OSX

It was created inside the file. They were differnt dimensions though because the layers selected to become a smart object had different bounds beyond the canvas.
The issue was that once I dragged layers from the editable file that was the smart object I would attempt to realign them BUT I have so many adjustments with masks that we'ren't linked so they wouldn't move with my realignment move(even a control+t)...I ended up going back in and relinking them all(which took really long) in order to realign things.
But really it would be so much easier if i could have just clicked re-add layers to file or something.

Converting a line of code into something recognized by Animate

I'm trying to embed a LinkedIn profile on my Stage. However, due to the Same Origin policy for browsers, this has been difficult to achieve. However, after researching it, I've found what I believe to be the code that works. The only thing is that I'm having trouble formatting it correctly so that it works in Animate. The line of code is

Now select the menu System->List->Save->Local File.
Now you can select the radio buttion Rich Text Format.
Now you save the document as a .doc file (say test.doc)

Help! converting two types of video into one format so I can edit

Right Folks, go easy because I’m a novice.
I’m having major problems getting two different types of video to work together in final cut pro 7.
I’ve recorded something with two different HD cameras and I’m totally aware I need to convert them to the same format so I can begin to edit them. I’ve got Mpeg stream clip, could anybody help me convert them?

Hi Dave, one of the cameras I have is Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG10 this shoots onto 16GB SDHC class 2, to work this in final cut I'm aware I have to compress using Apple ProRes 422 Codec which works fine.
The other Camera is a panasonic I have shoots on SDHC Class 6 cards and I usually compress at HDV 720P 25fps. which also works fine.
I can edit both individually, the latter, the panasonic camera is simple to capture and edit and is the camera I use the most but on this particular shoot I need to use both together.
So I think its the Sanyo that's causing me the problem.
