Converting PDF to EPUB with lots of images

Greetings everyone,
I am rather new to indesign and e-publishing and trying to get a handle on how to do this properly. I am a professional photographer with years of work and have decided to create a few photo e-books. Not actually how to, but beauty, something like a coffe table photo essay, photo story book. You get the idea,  mainly photos and very little text. So here I am looking to make a ebook without lots of text. I guess mainly the opposite of what most ebooks are? I have created a few of them in indesign cs6 as a pdf and they look great ! I have tried to convert them to epub and what text I do have and or backgrounds go all over the place! obviously i'm doing something wrong! Looking for some  guidence on how to make this work? I have worked with photoshop, premier, after effects since day one of their creation so i do have somewhat of  knowledge in adobe but not for this... thanks !!!
sincerely

Hi laras54426173,
Are you converting via Adobe Reader or the web interface? Do you see the JPEG option when you're logged on to https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf?

? can't convert pdf to powerpoint with adobe xi trial.  Regular adobe opens and only offers the option to convert to word or excel.

Not there? Maybe you didn't download it, or you downloaded but did not install it.

  • Convert pdf to epub

Trying to convert a pdf file to ePub to read on iPad and eventually upload to the Apple store. I have tried Calibre, Wondershare (paid version) and pdf to epub converter. I also have the native inDesign file used to create the pdf and tried exporting it as an ePub file. Of course it worked but when viewed on the iPad, the formatting was off. Every ePub file I have created has had formatting issues when viewed on the iPad. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

What George said is right, you will get much better results from ID > EPUB if you prep the file a bilt in ID, and if you make some tweaks in the resulting EPUB files.
In addition to Liz's boks, you might check out the video tutorials I've done on lynda.com for this, called InDesign CS to ePub and the iPad. There are 3 diff. titles, one each for InDesign CS4, CS5, and CS.5. Working on another for CS6. Here's the link to the CS5.5 one: http://j.mp/lynda_cs55epub
it's a subscription site ($25 for a month) but each of the titles has some free sample videos. Or you can get a free week's trial of the entire site: http://lynda.com/freepass/amconcepcion
Another good place to ask InDesign > EPUB questions (or any epub question) is on Twitter with the #eprdctn hash tag; ebook production folk use that tag. Not sure if you're into Twitter or not, but it's worth it for that alone.

  • Pages with lots of images "jam" Firefox

Whenever I try to open a page that has lots of images, it only load partially before Firefox becomes completely unable to load webpages until I restart Firefox. I have already created a clean profile and reinstalled Firefox.

I haven't gotten around to installing antivirus (or anything else, for that matter).
If I watch in Task Manager, Firefox.exe goes to 100% as soon as I load the page.
And no, that guide didn't help much. I don't have any addons or plugins yet, this is a new install.
I got a huge slowdown a bit ago, it's because it was using almost 1.5GB of RAM o_o

  • How to create ePUB with full size images/pages to adjust according to device?

    Friendly Greetings,
I have been trying, for nigh on two months, to convert/create my 7 books that are in print into eBooks; with first publishing scheduled to be Nook, with Kindle on the eventually list. I am, sadly still working on just getting the first one published! And I could really use any assistance to get this figured out. My intent was to publish several weeks ago...now my desperation is to publish before the weather gets too warm and kids are outside most of the time...or at least no later than Easter. :0)
First and foremost, my books are picture/poetry books for kids of all ages. They were fully designed in Photoshop, where I also created the full size images for the first eBook. I received the specifications from B&N for the various Nook devices. Under the assumption that it would be best to create the largest of the files, thus allowing smaller sized devices to adjust the page accordingly to fit and the largest would not overstretch a smaller image, I sized my pages to 1280px x 1920px at 72dpi. (now I hear 150 is standard??)
My text is included within the image as the design is one image = one page. I included a full text only version of the story/poem at the end for those wishing to adjust text or use a voice reader. I obviously have all the original files, but for publishing they were all saved as JPGs.
After quite a struggle and a whole lot of frustration I managed to complete the manuscript in Barnes and Noble's Nook Press Manuscript Editor. My internet is molasses and thus much of this was done in the wee hours of the morning when the rest of the time zone is asleep. I only had one page with an issue, of an extra blank line/space that was irreparable. I published, and found it was completely botched in publish, though the preview looked a-okay. Only about the top left 1/6 of each image/page was visible in either my laptop's Nook for PC or my Android Tablet's Nook App. So I agonizingly awaited another 10 hours, hoping no one would buy my book during that time, for it to be removed from sale.
I downloaded a trial of InDesign CC, and after two weeks of not even being able to create a single new document for some screwy reason, I bought a month's subscription. So far I'm not entirely convinced of this whole Creative Cloud malarkey, especially considering...as like I said my internet is slow...it took me nearly 20 hours just download the software. (Is it really that difficult to offer disc, seriously?) After a chat and phone call I can, in theory, now use InDesign.
I created a New Document for Digital Publishing at the aforementioned specs (1280 x 1920 px). I made the rectangle placeholders the full size of the page, and place one image per page. This usually inserted the image at about 50% and I would have to select 100% and then move as necessary in to place.
Thus, my first question is: Is there a way to place an image at 100% without having to do that extra resizing step? Or if there is an alternative way to place the image to the full size of the page without any of those other steps that would be lovely too.
Okay, after placing several pages/images I also selected each and went to Object Export Options and Checking the Custom Rasterization and "Resize to Text Flow".  I then exported a trial ePUB to see what it would look like. On both the PC and Tablet in landscape mode it was a far cry better than the other, but about oh a 1/3 of the bottom of each page was cut off. On the tablet I rotated to portrait and voila full page. Woohoo! But alas, I don't want to limit it.
Is there something I am doing wrong? Did I miss a step or two somewhere so that the full image will fit on the page? I feel like I'm just about to turn the page on this thing, but it's stuck to the one after that.
I would greatly appreciate any insight, tips, help that anyone can offer. I have run the gauntlet of Barnes and Noble...cough, cough...support and apparently I ask questions which no Nook Press rep can answer and the forums over there have no clue about InDesign. It's almost as if with all the fantastic beautiful screens out there today nobody wants picture books! How does National Geographic do it?!
            Thank you very kindly.
In case it is necessary: My laptop uses Window 7 Pro 64-bit, InDesign CC is 64-bit and my 10.1 tablet uses Android. I can view the EPUB files in Nook for PC and Nook for Android. I also have Kindle, LumiRead, and various other apps on the tablet. I can also have someone preview the finished epub, if need, on a Mac, iPad, and/or Android phone...though I do not have any of these. Not sure who has a Nook I can look at though. Thanks again.

Q: Is there a way to place an image at 100% without having to do that extra resizing step?
I think here you want your images to fit in the full page size frame automatically. For this you can try the follwoing steps:
    1. Create a new doc
    2. Goto Object menu and choose Frame fitting options
    3. Select Autofit and from Fitting drowdown, select "Fit content to frame". Refer the screenshot below:
After this you images should automatically fit in the entire page placeholder frames. Please let me know if this does not work or if the problem you are facing is different and I did not understand your problem correctly.

  • Convert PDF to Epub for mac,What can I do?

    Hello,here.
    I have bought a computer in the second-hand market,it is a really good computer.But here is a problem I can't handle.
It is running the MAC system, but I am not familiar with mac.So when I want to convert novels download from Internet with PDF format to Epub,I don't know how to do it.
    Any help?

Calibre is a great application for organizing your eBooks.  It can automatically sort your books by their metadata, and even display their covers in a Coverflow-style viewer.
Calibri makes it simple to read your eBooks in any format you need. It is a project that is in constant development, and updates regularly adding better stability and features.  Whether you want to ready your PDF eBooks on a Sony Reader, Kindle, netbook or Smartphone, your books will now be more accessible than ever.  And with thousands of free PDF eBooks out there, you’ll be sure to always have something to read. But first, you'd better understand the difference between: PDF, ePub and iBook. I have a cookbook that is in pdf format with all the links between recipes and index/contents done. As there are 275 recipes, this took a lot of work.

  • Converting pdf into jpeg with Pages

I took some scrapbook digital images and dragged them into pages. I then added pictures and text box. I used to go to Print and then save as jpeg but it won't allow me. I keep getting an error message and have no idea what it means. Finished project opens in Preview.
The action “Copy Finder Items” encountered an error.Check the actionʼs properties and try running the workflow again.
I just upgraded to Lion today.

If you want to convert a whole page:
Press command-P to open the Print dialogue.
Click the PDF button at the lower left and choose Save PDF.
In the Finder, locate the saved file, Right click on it's icon and choose Open with... Preview.
Save or Export the Preview document as a jpeg.
Alternate method (for less than a full page, also works for full page)
Select all of the objects on the page.
    Go Arrange > Group
    Copy
Launch Preview, then go File > New from Clipboard (or press command-N)
Save or Export the Preview document as a jpeg.
These methods work in previous versions of Mac OS X. I'm unable to test them in Lion.

  • Adobe Acrobat X does not convert pdf to Excel with floating columns!

I have a Macbook Pro, running 10.6.8, using Acrobat X Pro.  I have tried all Adobe suggestions for converting credit card statement saved as Adobe pdf to Excel.  None of the recommended solutions separate the data into columns.  It places all data, separated by spaces, into ONE column. Adobe should fix this if it is going to claim that the product converts to Excel, and for $300+ it should!

    Hello,
you may scan using any ICA-Compliant software (e.g HP Scan, Image Capture, Read Iris, etc) and then launch the file using Adobe Acrobat.
As you mentioned Adobe require TWAIN Drivers, however the HP software only provide ICA Drivers.
As you may find listed within the scanning specification below, Twain drivers are only provided for Windows OS:

  • Converting pdf to word with XI Pro

I just downloaded a free trial of Adobe XI Pro as I'm trying to convert a PDF document to a Word doc on my Mac. I successfully downloaded the software, registered with Adobe and signed in. But when I press the tab to "convert" I'm informed there's an error in signing in or conversely it prompts me to "Sign Up Now" again. Can you help me? Peter

Thank you for the response. I insereted several .pdf files into my MS Word document where they show as Acobat icons. When in MS Word, I am able to double-click on the icons and the files open in Acrobat. I then converted the MS Word document to a .pdf. These icons now only show as pictures and do not open the original inserted .pdf documents.

  • Epub with lots of photos

I created an iBook combining text and many photos. How do I now convert it to an epub? Most of what I've read applies to text epubs.

Larry, who whizzed in your cherrios this morning? Did you read my post, or did you just go into flame mode as default?
Here is a table of iPhoto revision histories.  I was speaking about iPhoto versions (yes, I used a '0' in front of the version), not the iLife version.  Yes, there was not an iLife '07, but I didn't say iLife, I said iPhoto.
As for me just having a problem, maybe but I certainly had a lot of company.  Otherwise, how can you explaing (please don't) the existence of several iPhoto library programs out there?   I'm thrilled you didn't have problems, but that doesn't mean any more than that - you personally didn't have problems.

  • Converting PDF forms from Acrobat to reader, Images won't upload?

    Hello,
I've created an editable PDF form in Acrobat and saved it so that the document can be populated in Reader and saved. Only problem is that the functionality to upload an image is not working, you click on it in Reader and nothing happens? I understand that LiveCycle Designer is the one to use, but it only works on Windows, I'm a Mac. Is there a way of saving the PDF in Acrobat Pro so that both the editable text fields and image upload functionality work in Reader?
    Thanks

  • Firefox uses all CPU resources when loading pages with lots of images.

I just installed XP, and when I load pages with a ton of images, say, tumblr, Firefox uses ALL CPU time until it finishes loading.
But because of the slowdown, it takes forever to download all the images.
It's not related to my connection, I've got 15mbit downstream.
I have Win7 on a different partition, and I have never had this problem.
As far as I know, all my drivers and XP are up to date.
I could have an old driver lurking, should I be looking at something specific?
I've tried to find something on Google, but I've not found anything really helpful...

I haven't gotten around to installing antivirus (or anything else, for that matter).

    Hi bert090909,
Are you trying to convert your files from within Adobe Reader? If so, please make sure that you have the most current version by choosing Help > Check for Updates. Earlier versions of Reader could cause the specific error that you're reporting.
Please let us know how it goes.
