Converting print Ad to 256 color jpg for ATM Screen

Got specs for converting a print ad to jpg for ATM: 800wx600h; 72dpi; 256 colors. As far as I know, the only way to get 256 colors is to convert to index. When I do, the halftones get slightly grainy. Also, I can only save the file as .psd, not .jpg as required. Any advice on how to convert my file to 72 dpi jpg with 256 colors appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe after using index color to get the 256 colors, then convert back to RGB Color and save as a jpeg.

  • HT5182 How can I convert Raw images from iphoto to jpg for the web?

I have some pictures in Raw mode stored in my Iphoto that I need to convert in JPG for the web and to print in business cards, I have been going around e-mailing the pictures to myself in large or medium size and then saving them again to my iphoto. Is there a way to do this from iphoto directly?

Are your pictures on your iMac or on an IOS device?
On your iMac use "File > Export " set the jpeg quality and size you want:

Color separation generally means using the CMYK color mode which is only available in the full Photoshop CS, not in Elements (RGB mode).

  • How can i create 256 colors (8 bits) jpeg ?

    Dear all :
The jpeg created by JPEGEncoder was in true color (24 bits) , how can i create or convert the jpeg to 256 colors . Because i want to convert the jpeg to gif in further , but the gifencoder i found can only accept the images that with 256 colors only , so any one can give me a help ? Or the ways that convert a jpeg to gif using java ?

To reduce the number of colors in an image, try:
    http://www.gurge.com/amd/java/quantize/
This does a very good job of reducing colors without making the image look too different.
Further, if you want to encode a GIF file, try using:
    http://www.acme.com/java/software/Acme.JPM.Encoders.GifEncoder.html
There should be some sample code which shows you how to use those packages on their respective websites. Hope this helps!

  • GNU Screen and 256 color terminal

Okay I've been racking my brain over trying to get 256 colors working while in screen.
If I run the 256colors2.pl script (found in xterm source) while in xterm / roxterm / xfce4-terminal it shows all colours as expected.
    $ echo $TERM
    xterm
Now I followed the wiki and added the "term screen-256color" line to my .screenrc
but if I run screen and run the 256colors script it doesn't show 256 colours (all messed up)
If I exit screen and manually set my $TERM
    $ export TERM=xterm-256color
then run screen again, things seem to work properly.
    But why?
I've read elsewhere on this forum that it's not good practice to force your $TERM so what should I do here?
What is the proper way?  I just cant wrap my head around why 256 colors work when $TERM=xterm outside of screen, but not when in screen.

I recommend just using TERM=xterm-256color, as TERM=xterm does not reflect the terminal's capabilities.  Replacing the command for your current terminal emulator with something like:
    xterm -tn xterm-256color
    should be sufficient.
I now use rxvt-unicode-256color from [community], which uses a 256color terminfo by default.  Why xterm and friends don't use this when it is supported, I don't understand.

  • Convert JPG to 256 color GIF

Is there any existing class file to convert a JPG to 256 color GIF?
I tried some free src from there:
    http://www.geocities.com/marcoschmidt.geo/java-image-coding.html
But seems that all throrw exception if the image got more than 256 colors, since my server is not using JDK.1.3x, so I can't use Java Media Framework.
    Any good suggestion?

GIF files only support up to 256 unique colors, so you need to reduce the number of colors used in your images -- a process called quantization. This will result in a degradation of quality, but the result is usually acceptable.
See the discussion here for a link to a decent quantizer:

  • Error message when uploading book for printing. All images are jpg and rgb. Could they be too large to upload? What size is required and how do I reduce size in Aperture?

I receive an error message when I upload my book for printing. Not sure what the problem is. All my images are jpg and rgb. Could they be too large as it takes about 15minutes to upload to Apple. How do I reduce the size of the image in Aperture?

    Hi Leonie,
    Thanks for your reply.
Error message below. The preview is fine . I can discount the first 2messages as its a new computer so plenty of disk space and upload doesn't seem to be interrupted. I have uploaded to iphoto before. have tried to upload 3times with the same error message. I had to photo my slides with a Kaiser Baas photo maker , which apparently doesn't scan but takes photos in megapixels of the slides. I am wondering now if the format is incompatible though they are jpg files or the colour type wrong. The image files are  around 1-3 mb each and  72 ppi. I think  I will now scan them properly with a scanner to 300dpi anyway to improve quality.
Apple  talks about image files not being too big for uploading but gives no sizing of what too big is?
    Error message
    1. Upload Error. Loss of connection or file corruption during order upload may cause an incomplete order. Resubmitting your order usually resolves this issue.
    2. Low Disk Space. If your computer is running on low disk space, your files may be assembled incorrectly. Create more space by deleting unused files.
    3. Unreadable PDF file or image files. Files are sometimes assembled incorrectly due to CMYK or Grayscale color space. Use the RGB color space for best results.

  • How to save a JPG in 256 colors?

    I'm using Photoshop CS2.
    1. How to save a JPG in 256 colors?
    2. Is there a way to see an image properties?
-- I want to know if that image is in 256 color or not...

Mary Jo, since you are a newcomer, you may not yet understand that in any given Adobe forum, there are a whole bunch of conversations going on at the same time. Each one of these is about a certain "topic", described in the title and opening post. The discussion sometimes stays right on point, and sometimes veers off a bit, and there are often quick side-issues branching off from the main topic, but still related. Within limits, people here try to keep the discussion on a single general topic. For example, in this topic, the initial issue is whether there is a way, in Photoshop, to limit the number of colors in a JPEG image to 256; there were discussions about whether this could be done or not, and alternative programs that may be able to accomplish this, and a comparison of the file sizes for 256 bit images in different file types.
Your question, however, is not a logical outgrowth of the discussion. It's a perfectly good question, but it deserves its own new discussion topic. It's like a bunch of people have been sitting around a table discussing the merits of Canon vs. Nikon SLRs, and someone sits down at the table and, instead of joining the conversation, asks a completely unrelated question about point-and-shoot cameras, or camcorders.
It's off-topic here, and you should start a new topic. Make the title descriptive, such as "Why does a 8 megapixel image result in a 3 megabyte file on my computer?" (assuming that's what you want to ask -- just "M" doesn't tell me whether you are talking about MP or MB). In the initial post, provide a more detailed description of what you want to know. Tell us what camera and Photoshop version you are using, and how you encountered the issue. People will see that a new topic raises an issue they know something about and you will get a response -- probably a good answer, if you keep in the conversation.
[Edit: Trez hit "post" before I did. Trez-- I think she is using Photoshop, not Elements; she did say CS2.]

  • Converting color .jpg image to grayscale

I have a color .jpg image that I want to convert to grayscale and then add annotation. Is this easy to do in Illustrator?

    Thomas Crowley wrote:
I've opened the .jpg image in Illustrator. It is a line drawing.
Those two statements constitute a logical fallacy. A JPEG image is a bitmap, and not, in any way or fashion, a "line drawing". Therefore,
...I cannot edit individual parts of the drawing.
is because the "individual parts" of the image are single color pixels. To "edit" these, you need a bitmap editor.
It's necessary to say "edit" (w/quotes) because you will be editing pixels. Any notion of 'lines', 'planes', and 'shades' only exist in your mind, and not as physical separate objects somewhere inside the bitmap. If you think you can "select" a big black square "object" in the bitmap editor, well, that's because the software only makes you think you can (it's easy to scan for the edge of a single color filled region).
... I just felt you might need to know this.

  • How do I convert a color jpg to a pure black and white jpg with no grey/shading?

how do I convert a color jpg to a pure black and white jpg with no grey/shading using Automator?

    Hi mns579,
    Thanks for your swift reply.
I'm afraid that sequence leads to a burn-out of some of the black text, making it unreadable.
To clarify, what I did was photograph pages from a book.  The interior lighting of the room where I photographed these pages leads to a jpg image with slight graying or shading of parts of the page.  So when I simply convert it to B/W, I get a washing out of some areas of the page where there is text, and this makes it unreadable.
I know that some software programs have a feature that allows a color jpg to be converted to b/w such that the text is made pure black and any surrounding areas of the text are made pure white (ie, all color is removed from the non-black areas), which makes for an easily readable b/w text page.  Am I able to do this with my Mac, and if so, how using the Automator feature?
(I have more than 50 jpgs that I would like to clean up in this manner, hence the ability to do so through Automator is important.)
Thanks for your attention to this.

  • Converting a pages document into a .jpg image for web

I am trying to convert a pages document into a .jpg image for uploading to idisk. When I drag to iphoto, then export, the image is really small even when I use the large size on the jpg photo export. Is there an easy way to do this..... I am trying to upload it to idisk then link it to craigslist.
Help! It worked a couple of months ago!
    Thanks
    John

A better way (I think) is to export or Print your Pages document as a PDF & open that PDF in Preview. Use the selection tool to select the area you want. You can crop & save as .jpg, but I recommend going to the File menu in Preview & choosing New From Clipboard to make a new file. This is because some programs, Pages in particular, will always "see" the unselected area & paste the whole thing. I also suggest using .png rather than .jpg. .jpg is a "lossy" format, .png will be much clearer.

  • Color Management for Epson printer using Photoshop Elements 6

I have consistently dark prints when using my new Epson workhorse 1100. It prints fine from iPhoto but not from Photoshop Elements 6. The Epson people say it's an Adobe problem. The Adobe people won't help, as it's not under warranty. I am interested in settings in PSE6 or on my Mac OSX. Or, what's a profile and how do I set it? Thanks!!

Yes, I've tried all of the options: Printer manages color, PSE manages color. All are the same dark prints.
On another conversation on this forum, I read the following. Very discouraging to think that Adobe knows of this problem but won't give me any tech support because too much time has lapsed.
I don't know what "plugs" are--sounds like this user figured out a way around it.
    Any advice?
    Thanks!
    Fran
Re: Color mismatch EpsonR800 and Elements 6
Adobe has admitted that there is a color management issue with PSE 6 for Mac. I have an Epson R1900 and I am now getting acceptable color-managed prints by allowing the Epson Printer driver to manage color management (ie; color management in PSE 6 turned off). The Epson Photoshop Plug In also works well with PSE6 and ICC profiles; however, I have yet to solve 2 problems with this particular plug in: (1) How to get the program to capture 3rd party ICC profiles and (2) how to print borderless prints. If anyone has seen a user guide for this particular plug in, I would be grateful to know how to download it.

You need to ask the printing service provider. Dealing with color totally depends on the printing process involved and of course the machines used.

  • Color profile for print

Do I need color profile for print taged in the file?
I need to print some photos at LAB (photo lab) and they print in color space sRGB.
I have created through Adobe Raw a JPEG file, which has untagged color profile.
Is it necessary to have a color profile for a print at photo lab tagged in the file or better not?
    Thank you for explanation.

Since you say the printer "prints in color profile sRGB", it sounds as though you should save your images tagged with the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile.
If I'm understanding you correctly "Lab" does not mean "print lab", it's an acronym that describes an alternate color space for representing an image, fundamentally different from RGB.  Print houses normally don't expect an image to be sent to them in Lab mode.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lab_color_space
In all seriousness, you should ask these questions of their customer service:
    1.  What format should I provide the image in (JPEG, TIFF, etc.)?
    2.  Should I tag the image with the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile?

Are there any Color Adjustments for Safari?  When printing the iphone at www.apple.com/iphone/compare-iphones/ the phones have a Magenta Overlay on them.  Tried Firefox and Chrome with same computer, plus a PC to the same printer.  All else prints fine.  Have Intel based iMac, updated to 10.7.5, and using Safari 6.0.1.  I called Canon, and they said it is an issue with Safari.  Any Solutions?  Any way of replacing Safari?  (Recently updated to Lion via software downloads.  No disc.)

If you're browsing the web and you're internet connection is slow or sometimes dropping, it is normal for Safari to hang or freeze for a little bit until it connects to the site you're trying to view or visit.
Try this - go to system preferences - network - advance - dns and change your dns server.
