Converting purchased iTunes song files to Xbox 360 friendly format?

I know you can right click on a song and select Create AAC version. Is there any way to do this so that the converted file REPLACES the old one, and I don't have a load of duplicates to clear? Thanks

I know this is an older post, but I myself have recently discovered that my Xbox 360 will not play the Protected or Purchased AAC files from my iPod. I understand that I can convert the Purchased AAC files to AAC and then the song will play on my Xbox; however, the problem with that is not only does it create a duplicate in my iTunes library, but when you go to remove the Purchased AAC file (as you already made an AAC copy of it), the song is also removed from your playlists. The library is now the only place the AAC file is stored in. It isn't enough that one must convert the songs to AAC format and then delete the duplicate, they have to redo their playlists. If you've discovered this by now and know of a way to make it easier to play the Purchased AAC files on the Xbox, please let me know. I'd like to save myself A LOT of trouble.

I ask because I primarily use my work laptop which has limited space so I usually convert my purchases to 160k from 256k in order to save space. I want to sign up for iTunes Match but I'd like to know before I do so I can understand how I will have to set up my library.

What I may do is start a brand new library there, copy my tracks from my work laptop using Home Share and then the script to get things in sync before starting over again there too.
Why create a new library? Just add the tracks from the laptop to the existing library on the Mac.

How do you mean? If you down-convert purchased tracks you've fundamentally changed the files so iTunes can no longer recoginize them as "purchased." And, indeed, they no longer are since they are brand new files. Of course these new files will only be "matched" or "uploaded."

  • My Ipod will not transfer all of its songs to purchased Itunes song transfer.  My last pv crashed, I dont have access to it any more.  I want my library back on Itunes.  ANy help?

My Ipod will not transfer songs.  my old PC crashed and could not recover anything from it.  When I purchased my new Dell, when I loaded Itunes back on to it my content library will only transfer over purchased Itune songs.  I have tons of songs I downloaded from the old "CD" onto my new Itunes account from my Ipod.  Any help?

so then technically I can't transfer the songs off my ipod to my itunes library?  since it is one 1 transfer from pc to ipod...correct?  So when I synch my ipod the warning screen comes up and says "there are content not in the library, erase and synch library to Itunes, only purchased songs can transfer."   Can I leave the songs on my ipod and when I purchase new songs to itunes I can still transfer those correct?  while having the others on there that wont transfer?

I accidentally deleted a purchased itunes song but still have it on my ipod.  Is there anyway to restore it to my laptop from the ipod?  I've seen others with a similar situation and the question was asked if it was still on the ipod but can't find a follow up to point me in the right direction.

Use the Transfer Purchases command in iTunes.

  • How to convert an iTune song from a playlist to MP3?

Can someone recommend a third-party software program that will convert an iTune song to MP3. I have a song I need to convert to email to someone. I thought that Roxio would do it but the upgrade is far too expensive. Thanks.

Then you'll have to find your answer elsewhere. I will not be party to it and discussions about removing the DRM are prohibited by the Terms of Use of these fourms.

  • Uploading purchased iTunes songs onto iPod

    Hi there,
Can anyone help me, everytime I try to upload my purchased iTunes songs onto my iPod an error message comes up saying I am not authorised to play these tracks on my computer and the tracks do not upload.
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem - getting an error message telling me that my iPod - which I have updated with most recent iTunes software - cannot play the music I've purchased. What was your solution? What did you figure out? Would appreciate any help.

  • Burning Purchased iTunes Songs...

    Hi there,
As I have noticed on these boards, many people (as am I) are having trouble burning purchased iTunes songs onto CD's. For about three and a half hours, I tried just about everything to fix this- but no luck. Is there any downgrader to jump back to a previous, working edition? Thanks.

Having similar issues here, but iTunes (6.0.2) doesn't crash. When trying to burn an audio CD (purchased from Music Store) iTunes will act like it is initializing, start burning and then all of a sudden it will finish burning (after 1st song) and then eject the cd (after a minute of sitting there). Message about "attempt to burn disk failed...device failed to respond, unable to recover or retry". I can burn other playlists, just not purchased songs from iTunes.
    Any thoughts?

  • Is there a way to convert REASON's .sxt files to LOGIC's .exs format???

Is there a way to convert REASON's .sxt files to LOGIC's .exs format???
From the NNXT sampler file format to the EXS24 format???

I have done it manually, and it takes a long time just for 1 patch.
Just the sample editing and naming takes hours!
    Autosampler automates this process.
You can define how many velocity levels you need.
If a midi CC changes the sound in an interesting way, you can have Autosampler send the controller in increments and sample that.
At the end of it, you end up with a finished EXS instrument.

  • Protected Purchased ITUnes songs on my PC, but NOT on my IPOD

I just bought a new 60gb IPOD. I successfully xferred all my songs from my old IPOD to my new IPOD, but now the songs I have purchased of recent from ITUNES (before and after the xfer of files to my new IPOD) do NOT play on my IPOD (but they are visible on my IPOD, they are just skipped over when playing). I CAN play them off of my PC and the "kind" of file they are is Protected AAC Audio File. This does not make sense to me. Can anyone assist? Additionally, the music videos which came with my new Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers albums do not play on my new IPOD

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you played the songs in iTunes for a few seconds? This will authorize them. Now sync your iPod. Do they play?
If not, make sure everything is up to date on your computer and iPod..
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
    Updating iPod's Software
If that doesn't work, in iTunes, go to advanced-->deauthorize computer. Now play the songs in iTunes. It will ask for your account information (from the iTunes Music Store). Enter that. Now play a few purchased songs for a few seconds. Sync your iPod. Do the songs work now?
If they don't, try this test/solution...
Deauthorize the computer. (Go to advanced-->deauthorize computer in iTunes)
Create a new user in the system. (Start-->control panel-->user accounts-->create a new account)
Download the free song of the week in the new user account. (First, log out of the current user and log in to the new user account. Then open iTunes and download the free song)
Play the song in that username to authorize it.
Restore the iPod in the New User account, sync just the Free song of the Week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it plays fine on the iPod when syncing with this user name (after you followed the above instructions), it would indicate a bad iTunes Library File. Post back for instructions on how to fix that.
Now, if it still won't work (you followed the above instructions with the new user account) and the iPod still won't play the songs, then post back.

  • Itunes Plus Music+Tversity+Xbox 360=?

I am using the computer program called Tversity as a media extender for my Xbox 360. I cant play Itunes plus music which i should be able to because it is unprotected AAC. It is able to play non-Itunes Plus stuff(c.d. ripps and stuff). So why doesent itunes plus work with Tversity? Is it unsupported or something?

It's not a matter of DRM (iTunes Plus is DRM-free,you did not assume wrongly) -- it's whether or not AAC files will play on your 360. To my knowledge, they do not play unless you've downloaded some sort of AAC codec to your 360. I am not sure where to download it -- but I am pretty sure it's free.

  • Purchased iTunes song - error to make it into a ringtone

I've purchased 2 songs off iTunes that i want as ringtones but the message "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. An Unknown error has occurred (11556) Make sure your network connection is active and try again" keeps coming up & i can connect to iTunes so i cannot understand what the problem is!!! plus I've spend money which now seems pointless!!

A song available for purchase via the iTunes store in the UK must also be licensed in the UK to be used as a ringtone. Such a song will have a bell icon beside it indicating the song is so licensed. Only songs that are also licensed to be used as a ringtone can be converted into a ringtone with a chosen segment of the song using the iTunes ringtone creator. You can't use the iTunes ringtone creator to create a ringtone with any song purchased from the iTunes store.

  • Cannot sync non-purchased itunes songs from itunes to ipod

I have been having this problem for some time now and have searched for answers for some time now to no avail.  I have older songs from CDs on my laptop (Dell Inspiron E1405 & Windows XP) that at one time I was able to sync to my iPod, iPhone, etc.  However, about a year ago that all changed, as now I can only sync purchased songs to my iPod or iPhone.  When I place non-purchased songs on a play list and then try to sync my iPod or iPhone, the syncing process stops and I get an error (-50) which essentially states there is an unknown error and cannot sync this particular song and gives the title.  I have narrowed this down to only songs that I imported from CDs many years ago.  They are not listed as "protected" or "purchased" ACC audio files if that helps.  I have searched for an answer for some time or waited for an iTunes update to fix the problem, but no such luck.  Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated, there has to be an answer out there somewhere.  Thanks!

  • Distinguishing purchased iTunes songs from those imported from CD

Is there a quick way to determine which songs in my library were purchased from iTunes vs imported from my CDs?
I would like to transfer some of my songs in my iTunes library to a computer at work, but I do not want to authorize that computer. My purchased list under the store icon is useless because I have changed computers so many times.
    Thanks

Show your Music library in the list mode (click on the music library and use the View menu -> As list).
Look at the "Kind" column. If you don't see a "Kind" column, go to the View menu -> View options and put a check beside "Kind".
Purchased songs will show as "Protected AAC audio file" or "Purchased AAC audio file".
You can put those terms in the search box (top right of main window) to only display those files.
