Converting Purchased MPEG 4's to MP3's

I am a new user and recently purchased music but did not realize that the music was downloading at MPEG 4's and my mp3 player can't read MPEG 4's. How do I covert these files to MP3's so my player can read them.

Here is a link defining MPEG4 http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/M/MPEG.html
MPEG4 is video format and you would need to go to the video section of itunes and click on the thumbnail so you could watch AND listen to the video that you purchased.
Hope this helps. In the future, if you just want the audio of the song you should make sure that is what you are downloading rather than the video.

  • How i can convert  my MPEG itunes library to MP3

my library was in MP3 format, but for some reason now is on MPEG format and some programs dont reconize the music in that format. please help me

If the music file is an MP3, iTunes will show its Kind as "MPEG audio file."  Is that what you are seeing?
Unless you did something to convert your MP3s, it is unlikely they changed format.

  • MPEG-4 conversions to mp3s.

I have some songs that I have recorded that I would like to post online. It is my (probably incorrect) understanding that mp3's are the preferred form of music file for the internet. What is the best way to convert iTunes MPEG-4 files to mp3's while keeping the highest quality sound? (Aside from changing the desktop file from .m4a to .mp3)
Thanks in advance for help and response.

You can't just change the extension; that won't change the format and will just cause problems with the files being recognized properly.
The best thing to do would be to convert the original recordings rather than an already-compressed version. You'll get the cleanest MP3s that way. If that's not possible for some reason, then there's not much you can do to improve sound quality; you're going to lose some in the conversion. Some people feel that the LAME encoder does a better job than the iTunes MP3 encoder, so that's about the only advice I'd have.

  • With new iTunes 12, I can no longer convert a voice memo to an mp3 file type

Prior to the update to iTunes 12, I was easily able to convert a voice memo to an mp3 or mpeg audio file.
With iTunes 12, if you select Create New Version, mp3 is grayed out.
    They changed it.
    Help!

I changed Preferences>General>Import Settings to mp3 and this gave me the option to encode existing wav files to mp3. Hope this helps.

  • Possible to convert DRM protected WMA files to mp3?

I've been attempting to find a relatively simple way of converting DRM-protected WMA files to mp3 using my Mac and can't seem to find anything. Surely somebody must have figured this out by now. I can convert non-DRM WMA files to mp3 using EasyWMA, but this does not work for WMA files with DRM protection.
I want to purchase songs from the 7digital store that are in the WMA format and have DRM protection, convert them to MP3 on my iMac, and then import them into iTunes. Seems like it shouldn't be that hard.
    Any suggestions?

iTunes Windows will convert non-DRM tunes into .mp3. If you have iTS purchases that have DRM you can burn them to an audio format CD as AIFF file format.
Check the terms of use and see what your options are for converting them to another format. With iTunes the path is to burn an audio CD. See if that is possible with the wma DRM.
Likely in your case you are trying to crack DRM outside the original terms of use when you purchased the tunes.

  • How would i be able to convert music files, like wma to mp3 on my mac

how would i be able to convert music files, like wma to mp3 on my mac

If the music was just purchased on the iPod from iTunes Store, then sync with iTunes. You will be prompted to transfer purchased items to iTunes. You can also re-download prior purchases directly in iTunes: Download past purchases.
Otherwise, you will need a third-party utility for the chore such as Pod To Mac or Pod To PC.

  • Hi there, I cannot seem to convert my iTunes MP4 songs to MP3 - can someone please assist in this regard?

Hi there, I cannot seem to convert my iTunes MP4 songs to MP3 - can someone please assist in this regard?

    Hello @MK,
This functionality has been moved under the File menu in iTunes 11, where you will find a submenu labelled "Create New Version." From here you can choose the format you would like it converted to. Do keep in mind that most music purchased from the iTunes Store (unless they're iTunes Plus purchases) cannot be converted.

  • Converting to MPEG-4 Files

I am a novice with iMovie. Awhile back, I purchased a digital camcorder (JVC Everio with hard disk drive 20GB) with the idea of creating iMovies. My camera allows me to directly download movie files (by UBS; no firewire option) only as Capty MPEG (MPEG-2 Format) which I then must convert to MPEG 4 files to edit with iMovie. What software is recommended for this conversion? (Apologies if this has been answered before.)

Search this discussion group for mention of "MPEG Streamclip". That free application, combined with the Quicktime MPEG-2 plugin (US $19), is probably the most popular choice for converting such clips into DV format for editing with iMovie '06. VisualHub ($23 I believe), DVDxDV also work.
Some JVCs also come with a Quicktime plugin that lets you do editing in iMovie directly.

  • I want to convert the MPEG-4 Audio (.m4a) to a window media audio file

i want to convert the MPEG-4 Audio (.m4a) to a window media audio file,  i downloaded some songs so i can run them with a photo slide show on my samsung video.  the machine would not play them (could not find them)  the files that work are all windows media audio

You can't convert to WMA with iTunes. I'd be surprised if the software can't read mp3 files. iTunes can convert to that. Otherwise there are free format converters out on the web. The suite from http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ is handy and includes an audio convertor. There is no need to install their toolbar or any other 3rd party software that gets offered.

  • Convert to Mpeg the differences

    Hi all,
    Just a quick question.
I have been asked to convert some short 30 second clips to be used in a Power Point Presentation.
The client has asked for them as .mpeg I have only see .mpeg4 as format that I can convert to. Is this the same as .mpeg? And if is not then how would I convert to .mpeg?
    Thanks,
    Jamie

Your client needs to be more specific.
    My simple MPEG descriptions:
MPEG 1 is lousy quality so I would not be surprised if PowerPoint accepts this format.
MPEG 2 is used as an "inbetween" stage of DVD authoring.
MPEG 3 is the audio format .mp3
MPEG 4 is reasonably good quality, considering the data size.

  • MPEG vs. Wave & MP3

Can anyone help with converting bought music from iTUNES to MP3 or WVI. Cannot import to other MP3 devices.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Music purchased from the iTunes Music Store can be played on five computers, transferred to an iPod, or can be burned to audio CDs and data CDs an unlimited number of times.
However, each unique playlist can only be burned to an audio CD 7 times.
As you have found out it is not possible to convert the tracks to mp3.

  • How can I convert an M4A file to an MP3 version?

How can I convert an M4A file to an MP3 version?

Thanks for your reply but that's not my problem.
I know that I can burn an M4A file to a CD and then import it back as an MP3, but that's an annoying process and wastes blank CDs.  I thought iTunes had a menu choice to convert a selected file to MP3 format.  I guess that's not true with M4A versions.
I will simply buy my music from Amazon from now on and I won't have to deal with this file format and protection nonsense.  I can download music from Amazon in MP3 format as the rest of my music is in.
