Converting slideshow from .mov to iPod loses the Ken Burns effect

I've been trying to make slideshows from iPhoto that will work on my iPod/iPhone. So far the only process I've found is to export to QT from iPhoto, then take that .mov and "convert for iPod". This works fine, however I noticed the nice Ken Burns effect is now gone.
Any thoughts?

Use a different app to make the movie.
But, if the destination is an iPod screen, then it's always going to be compressed heavily, so quality is always going to suffer. The same thing happens when your high quality photos are burned to DVD and folks wonder what's gone wrong - but it's the format of DVD itself that's the problem.
Other than that:
iPhoto's export options are pretty thin. Using something like PhotoToMovie or Final Cut Express in conjunction with Quicktime Pro will give you exported movies up to HD quality.

  • Can I turn the Ken Burn Effect off when using the iMovie app on my iPod touch 5th generation?

I have an iPod touch 5th generation and I'm trying to make a movie using the iMovie app. When I put an image on there it moves from side to side and zooms in and out. I believe this is called the "Ken Burn Effect". Is there any way that I can turn the Ken Burn Effect off without having to adjust the image position and zoom level to be the same for the start and end points?

    Hello MisfitxCaleb
Unfortunately, the Ken Burns Effect cannot be turned off in iMovie for iOS. Like you mentioned above, having the photo at the same start and end point is the best way to make it appear as if it isn't moving/zooming.

  • When i create a slideshow in iphoto using the ken burns effect it will not work in idvd. any tips please.

when i create a slideshow in iphoto with the ken burns effect it works fine. when i then transfer it to idvd it will not work. any tips please.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
how are you getting the slideshow into iDVD?
what size slideshow did you send to iDVD?
can you export the slideshow to the Desktop and play it with Quicktime Player there?
    what fixes have you tried?
how much free space on your boot drive?
Here's how you should create and sent a slideshow to iDVD from iPhoto:
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Can I turn off the Ken Burns effect from all stills at once?

I am using iMovie 09.  I am creating a slideshow.  I want to turn off the Ken Burns effect from all stills.  Is there a way to do this in one operation?
    Mary Lou

Yes. Select one still. Open the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool on the middle Toolbar. Set it to FIT (for letterboxing) or to CROP (for it to fill the screen, but cut off the top and bottom). This will turn off Ken Burns.
Now select the photo you just adjusted and EDIT/COPY (or Command-C).
Now click EDIT/SELECT ALL (or Command-A) to select all photos.
Finally, click EDIT/PASTE ADJUSTMENTS/CROP ADJUSTMENTS to apply to all photos.

  • Constant Crashes when I try to manipulate the Ken Burns Effect

Im trying to edit a slideshow where Im using the Ken Burns effect.
When I try to set the position of the photo at the start or end of the move, iPhoto usually crashes.
It will only let me alter the Zoom amount.
It cant seem to handle a repositioning.
    What is the deal?!
It is supposed to be able to do this.
Is this because the newest iPhoto is beyond the specs of my G5 tower?
I have to make 2 adjustments then quit just to save my minor changes or else all is lost when I crash.
    BUMMER.

There have been reports of issues with video cards from older machines and iPhoto 09.
Are all the Slideshow options available on your machine?
    Post the Crash Log.
    It's at Home / Library / Logs / Crash-Reporter / iphoto.crash.log
Double click on the file and it will open in the Console. Copy and Paste it in here.

  • Inserting Photos and the Ken Burns Effect

    First
I have inserted a number of photos from iPhoto onto the timeline via the "Photos" panel in the "Media" section. After adding these pictures to the timeline, with transitions, etc. I realized that I wanted to add some pictures before the current ones in the timeline. How would I do this easily?
    Second
These pictures are motionless, which is boring, and I want to add the Ken Burns Effect. However, I don't want the same effect on every picture is there some way to randomize the effect, similar to the way iPhoto does in its slideshows?
    Thanks!

Just select the photos (Command-click) you wish to import, and drag them directly from the photos panel down to the timeline at the point you want to insert them.
is there some way to randomize the effect, similar to the way iPhoto does in its slideshows?
Not in iMovie. You would have to vary them individually.
However, you can use Photo-to-Movie to accomplish this. With this app, you drag in the photos and let the application create the effects. You can also individualize the effects yourself. Photo to Movie

  • I have an older version of imovie.  After I change the photos using the Ken Burns effect and save them, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' to change the zoom, the picture appears black and I can't change the zoom?

I have a five year old version of imovie that generally works fine.  However, when I add a photo using the 'Ken Burns' effect then save the movie, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' the picture appears black and I cannot change the zoom.  Any suggestions?

Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.
    See here:
Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support

  • Importing photos & I dont want the ken burns effect

I want to import photos into imovie to make a slideshow like I used to in earlier versions of. However, when I import a photo now, it imports somewhat zoomed in and off center.
I do not use the Ken Burns effect, so it is not on.
Also I am doing a straight import from the folder. If I try this from iphoto the ken burns effect is turned off and I still have this problem.
Has anyone else experienced this with the new version of imovie?

Although it looks like a bug, Randy, it's actually not. It's how Ken Burns works in all versions of iMovie.
The Ken Burns checkbox ONLY controls whether or not the image is imported with an animated zoom or pan. The OTHER Ken Burns settings — the duration, the zoom and the pan — are ALWAYS in effect. Those settings affect the current import. And future imports too, until you change them.
If your image imports off center it's because the Ken Burns pan setting is currently set off center. To re-center it, turn ON the Ken Burns checkbox. Stop the preview. Click on the "Start" side of the Start/End thingy. Drag the zoom slider a bit to the right, then all the way left. Repeat for the End side of the thingy. Now the image is centered, and the zoom set to 1.00. Click Apply, so it sticks.
Notice you can drag the preview image off center. That's probably how it got changed in the first place. Usually one uses the zoom and pan in combination to crop an image. To show just the left side of the image, for example.

  • How can I turn off the ken burns effect on iMovie? If I crop the picture it still persists!

I cannot turn off ken burns on iMovie for the life of me! Everyone is telling me to fit the photo or stop it, which I have done. However, when cropped the ken burns effect is still there in full force!!! What can I do to turn off this dreadful effect?

  • Using the Ken Burns effect in I Photo 5

The first time I worked on a slide show I was able to use the Ken Burns effect with no problems. Later on opening I Photo and clicking on slide show I no longer have the controls for the Ken Burns effect. There is just a blank space where they should be. Why did this happen ? How do I get the controls back?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Vernon

    Vernon:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What may have happened is that one or more items within the iPhoto application package have had their permissions changed so you do not have access. Run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions. If that doesn't help try moving the application to the desktop and making a duplicate of it-select it and type Command-D. Now move the duplicated to the applications folder and rename to just iPhoto. Now see if the KB controls come back.
Next would be a reinstallation of iPhoto. You'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. Now reinstall iPhoto 5 and immediately update to the latest version. Then repair disk permissions.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • Is it possible to change the orientation with the Ken Burns effect?

    Friends,
I would like to change the orientation of the Ken Burns effect for a particular photo that I've insterted into a movie.  In other words, the KBE crops the image in landscape mode -- I'd like to crop it in portrait mode (which is how the photo was taken).  How do I do this?
    Thanks!
    Steve

    Tom,
You broke my heart, but I figured out a way around it using cropping and keyframes.
    Thanks!

  • How do I get the Ken Burns Effect?

How in FCE do I achieve the Ken Burns effect which I used a lot in iMovie '08?

    Hello Piero,
Thank-you for your contribution. Your plug-in comes in very handy as I have decided to drop producing slideshows using iPhoto after it lost my slide show project. So many hours of work down the drain!
Anyhow, here I am looking for the quickest way to get similar results using FCE and I find your plugin. As I am getting familiar with FCE I want ahead with a trial of your plugin. My only question at this stage is what could cause the pf folder not to show up in the Video generators? The pf folder does show in the Video filters but not the Genrator filter.
I did follow your instructions with care at:
    http://web.mac.com/piero.fiorani/PieroFFCE_Effect/PluginsInstallation.html
but still cannot figure out the cause.
    Thanks for your help,

  • How do I get photos to automatically have the ken burns effect in final cut?

New to Final Cut Pro X- would appreciate any help.  I have several photos and want to apply the ken Burns effect, but when I select all and apply the effect, they all have the same movement.  Is there a way to have the automatically have the ken burns effect such as in iMovie 11?
    Thanks!
    SJB

It's a few more steps. But you could create a zoom-in for a clip on your timeline, copy it and then select every other clip that you want to zoom in on, and go to Edit>Paste Effects. The KB effect will be applied to each of the selected clips. Then do a KB  reverse zoom with the clip adjacent to the first clip you copied. Copy that and repeat the Paste Effects process for the alternate clips. Hope that's clear.

  • How to manually zoom in using the Ken Burns effect

I love the way the Ken Burns effect zooms in on a photo. But it isn't optimally positioned on my photo. So I want to manually control this effect from start to finish of the duration. I understand how to slide left, right, top or down but its not obvious how to make it zoom in or out from start to finish. Can someone tell me how to do this.
    Thanks in advance.
    --Mickey

pick the photo in the slide show - click on the settings icon in the tool bar and on this slide - click on start next to Ken Burns at the bottom of the settings window and zoom the photo to the desired size using the zoom in the lower right hand corner and pan to the desired starting point by dragging - click end and do the same for the final position and you have it
