Converting song formats

I imported all of my music using Apple Lossless encoder. Unfortunately, this took up a lot more memory than I was anticipating. Is there a way to convert songs from Lossless to AAC or MP3?

I've answered my own question. Probably it's obvious to all the experienced folk out there, but I'm just getting started with iTunes, and I simply didn't notice that there are two "Advanced" choices: one in Preferences and one in the Menu Bar. IMHO, putting the same term in such proximity 2x is practically to guarantee confusion.

    Hello tomspoon
    Check in the Music Folder of your computer to locate the songs there, then just drag it back onto iTunes.
    Where are my iTunes files located?

  • How can I automatically convert songs to save iPod space?

    Hi everyone,
    This is my first post here, nice to join the community.
    I have a new iPod Nano 4GB. Also I have an extensive MP3 collection, and all my songs are in a very large format (I used very high quality settings when I created the MP3 files). The problem is that with these large MP3s, I cannot put as much music as I'd like on the Nano.
    Is there a way to set iTunes to automatically convert my MP3 songs to a more compact AAC format when I transfer them to the iPod?
    Thanks!

    When you convert in iTUnes, it doubles things. what I mean by that is if you have one MP3 and convert it you end up with 2, one in MP3 the other in AAC. So if you have, lets say 10GB of songs, you need 10GB of free space on the PC.
    THat said, you need to goto edit>preferences>advanced tab>import sub tab and make sure its set to AAC or whatever format you want, then hit OK.
    Goto the main library, then to edit>select all. Rightclick one of the highlightd songs and hit "Convert to (format you chose here)" When its done tho, you will have to manaully go thru and delete all the duplicates it will make
    Personally Id recommend picking a select few songs and converting them only for now, and over time converting the whole library you have

  • I used to be able to convert songs to mp3 files, but dont see how to do it now

    There used to be a place at the top of one's iTune Library where you could convert files to mp3's.  I have changed computers and in the new iTunes download, I don't see it.  Is there not a way to do that now?  Not giving additional information about my Apple products because they are irrelevant to this question.  I am using a Windows 8 system

    I guess you can search the internet for audio converter to convert songs to mp3. There are many audio conversion software in the market. You can search the keywords on Google for it easily. Most are able to do audio conversion between various audio file formats as well as to extract audio tracks from videos. Just for your reference. If your iTunes works, I guess it can meet your needs.

  • Converting Songs to 128kbps and AAC

    How do you convert songs to 128kbps and to an AAC format?

    1) Confirm you import settings are set to the desired format. In ITunes go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Importing than select in your case ACC encoder and the desired bitrate.
    2) Highlight the desired songs to be converted using shift (Music store songs will not convert but they would be in this format anyways) than right click and say Convert Selection to ACC.

    why isn't this working? any tips?

    hi david,
    thanks for trying to help. i'm still having the audio problem-- the aiffs sound clean in both quicktime and itunes, crackly and distorted in fcphd.

  • Help about converting songs (bit rate)

    Hi,just before begining I want to say that I did a search about the topic and found many things so what I am looking for is different opinions.
    I read that if I convert songs from one compress format to another, the songs will lose some quality no mather what's the compressed format and bit rate. Is that true? Like if I go from Mp3 to acc?
    Another thing that I want to be sure of is that AAC at 160kbps is audio cd quality. Is that true?
    Well thanks in advance

    Hi Maxime
    First: yes if you convert a .mp3 file to .acc it will lose some quality, because both formats are compressing the original data by using a alogrithm. Compressing an already compressed file = Data loss = Loss of quality. The todays compressing methods are really great and the loss won't be much, I guess. But you have to try out and listen to it to decide if it's still ok for you.
    The term "cd quality" is (miss)used on every second website. The thing is, songs on a CD are in a noncompressed format (like .wav) so it's not possible to get a .mp3 file, that reachs exactly the same quality. But an mp3 of 192kbps you get nice results and it should be ok for most of the users. ACC should be a bit smaller by the same quality level, but I don't use it. If you want real CD quality, you have to buy it or burn it without any compression.
    Thats not the ultimative truth but only my opinion.
    cheers

    on ITunes and I checked the tag Convert
    songs with a throughput greater than 128 kbit / s ACC before
    synchronisation I took maybe 6 hours to synchronise, and afterward my library was
    about 42 G. All my tunes, more than 9500, seem still be in library. Most of my
    library is from music purchased in ITunes store along with copies on my old CDs
    an some MP3 files from other discs. This is good for me but what happened?

    This is good for me but what happened?
    I don't understand the question...  Did something happen that you think should not have happened?
    It took such a long time to sync, because iTunes was converting songs with bit-rate higher than 128 kbps "on the fly" while syncing.  That takes much longer than just syncing the songs.
    Also, since you have so much space on your iPod (compared to the size of your music library), you should not use that "convert to 128 kbps AAC" setting.  For songs that are encoded higher than 128 kbps, the conversion reduces sound quality.  You may want to uncheck Sync Music and Apply, to remove the songs on the iPod currently, and then sync it all again without the "convert" setting checked this time.

    I want to convert date format(mm/dd/yy) into dd-mm-yy
    like 12/23/06 into 23-sep-06

    hey, you can use SimpleDateFormat to format your date. this is sample code, maybe could help you.
    class dateFormat
         public static void main(String[] args)
              Date now = new Date();
              System.out.println("Before format : "+now);
              SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat( "dd-MM-yy" );//Change your date format in here.
              String display = sdf.format(now);
              System.out.println("After format : "+display);
    }If you already understand about my sample code, i think it's easy to make your own date format. Just modified few line of my code.
