Converting songs already on my computer to itunes...

The day i got my ipod i started to convert all the songs on my computer to itunes, but it started storming so i had to shut the computer down. does anyone know how to get it started back converting the songs?

there is a hack method i can think of that would do it ... but it doesn't restart the conversion from the point at which it left off, it starts converting all the files on PC again from scratch. so you would end up with duplicates in your library of the files that were automatically converted the last time you tried this. with that in mind, are you still keen to try it?

  • Help trying to get purchased songs to play on computer without itunes?

My fiance is creating a photo slideshow for our wedding on her laptop, which does not have itunes. We downlaoded a few songs to play in the background from itunes (on our desktop computer) and tried putting them on a flashdrive and then putting them into the slideshow program. We need to convert them to mp3 files so that they will play on the slideshow program but the purchased songs are protected files. Does anyone know how to turn them into regular old mp3s?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!!

You don't "enable" iTunes Plus, per se. For new purchases, Just look for tracks that have the "+" next to the price in the iTunes Store. Those will be Plus tracks and not copy protected. For older tracks that you already purchased, go to the iTunes Plus link at the upper-right of the iTunes Store pages. When you click that link, you'll be taken to a page that will have an "Upgrade My Library" header. If any tracks are eligible to be upgraded, there will be a button that says "upgrade" (or something to that effect; I don't remember the exact phrasing).
Alternatively, you can try one of the download stores that sell tracks in MP3 format (which is always unprotected) such as Amazon. Some record labels, in an attempt to force Apple's hand on some policies, are licensing other stores to sell unprotected tracks where they won't allow Apple to do so.
Note, though, that just because they're not protected doesn't mean that you will have the license to give them away. As long as this slideshow will just be shown at your wedding, you should be OK, but you can't give the slideshow containing the songs away. Just a "heads-up".
Congratulations and a wish for a happy life together. Cheers.

  • Converted songs from Windows Media Player to itunes show up in the library but will not play

I just installed itunes for the purpose of converting my Windows Media Player library to itunes.  I went through the install and added the music folder.  itunes went through the conversion process overnight and all of my songs appear in the music library.  However some songs will play properly and if you open them in windows explorer they are in a folder called my music/downloads and are mpeg files.  Other songs that are listed in the music library and appear to have been converted will not play.  When you click on these songs that won't play it appears to be playing in the progress bar on top, but no sound comes out and the EQ visualizer shows nothing.  When you open these songs in Windows explorer they are located in a folder: my music\i tunes\itunes media\music and they are a .AAC audio file type. What went wromg in this conversion process? Why is itunes putting these files in two different locations?  Why will these files not fully convert and play?

This is also what I suspected but why would the songs go through conversion, show up in the library, and then not play?  Apple support even says "itunes for Windows cannot import or play WMA files that are protectd."  Yet the imported song is sitting in the library and when you play it the song is listed and the diamond advances - but no sound.
Also, any tips on how to see if a WMA file is protected by DRM?
    Thank you for your response.

  • Problems converting song from AAC to MP3 in iTunes

    hi,
I have just downloaded some songs from the iTunes store and they download in the AAC format, I usually right hand click on a song and convert it to MP3 file, however I have one song "animal by neon trees" that it keeps coming up with an error but it says it is an unknown error. this is what it says
error occured while converting the file "animal". an unknown error occurred (-3)
has anyone else encountered this issue??
    please help
ps. i have the latest version of itunes, i have also converted other songs today not a problem.

    Hi affilgraph,
Yes, it can be done. First, go to iTunes preferences, choose "Advanced", click on the "Import" Tab and select "MP3 encoder" next to "Import Using". Close the window. Now select the files in questions, go to the "Advanced" menu and choose "Convert selection to MP3". However, if your files are already encoded to AAC this will not decrease the size of your library significantly AND you will lose sound quality. In addition, converting your library in one go might bring your computer to its knees risking data loss. So, I would recommend buying a bigger HD instead.

  • Copying song/album from shared computer in iTunes 12

Prior to iTunes 12, I the leftside bar showed shared computers and I could open them up and copy a song/album etc by dragging it to "my" Music folder also in the left sidebar.  However, now it seems I can only show either "my" computer or the shared one in the left sidebar.  So how can I drag and drop something from one to the other.
    THANKS!

I am not sure I have completely understood you.
When you accidentally deleted the songs, did you just delete them from the iTunes library or were they deleted from the PC. Usually iTunes would ask you if you want to delete the track and send it to the recyle bin, but that can be turned off.
So the first thing is are the files still there. If they are the simplest way to be sure of adding everything back is to use File>>Add folder to library to add the entire iTunes Music folder. This should not create duplicates of tracks already in the library.
If the tracks are not where they shouold be look in the recycle bin.

  • I had about 6000 songs on my old computer in Itunes. 1000 I bought from Itunes, the rest I downloaded from CD's I owned. I was able to down load the Itunes songs but not my library of cd music. How do I download those songs into my new computer?

I have 6000 songs in itunes (in my Ipod and old laptop).
I was able to download the songs I purchased directly from itunes to my new laptop but the 5000 songs  I loaded into itunes from my old laptop using my own CD's won't transfer... or I don't know how.
When I plug in my Ipod to my new laptop, I get a message that says the Ipod library is linked to my old laptop and the library can only be linked to one computer at a time.
Any ideas how to resolve this situation?

Copy them from your old computer, or your backuo copy of your old computer. to your new one.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  the exception is itunes purchases.

  • I got a new computer and downloaded itunes to it, is there a way to get my song from my old computer with itunes to my new one without having to redownload them all

I was hoping i could just sign in on my new one and get all the songs to it with out redownloading them.

It is a reasonable question - we increasingly see the ability to access "my data" through the cloud rather than relying on local storage.  In the case of iTunes:
You can, in most cases, access and re-download previous iTunes Store purchases
If you subscribe to iTunes Match, your complete library - within the 25,000 song limit imposed by the service - will be available to you,
That being said, the most complete and reliable method is still to copy your complete library (database, media, artwork, ...) from the older computer to the new one.  If you've configured iTunes so that all your music, etc., is stored within the iTunes Media folders then you can just copy the C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes folder and all its contents from the old computer to the corresponding location on the new one.  Depending on the size of your library you can copy it across a network, using a thumb drive or an external (USB) hard drive.
If you have media stored elsewhere on the old computer the process is a little more complex.

  • Computer crashed, how do I get my Ipod songs onto a new computer with itune

Please help. My computer died and I lost everything on it. I have a new computer and have downloaded a new itunes 7.0
How do I get my songs off my Ipod to my new computer and then to the new itunes

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting to your new computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Putting songs already on ur comp in itunes....at once

I had a bunch of songs, like 5000, on my comp.....w/ itunes....most of them were in AAC format. I dont know much about comps but i imported them from cds and itunes converted them to AAC format upon importing. My comp got messed up like a couple months ago and those songs were lost and i had 2 re-import them....I finally got done and my comp messed up again....and i opened itunes and the songs werent there. And the first time i opened itunes after the second mess up it offered 2 search for any songs stored on my comp.....and i clicked no....but now i realize that the songs are still on my comp....just not in itunes....and i could send them 2 itunes without a problem but i have 2 do it song by song which will take 4ever......is there any quick way 2 do this....I looked in itunes and couldnt find anything 2 click on that suggests doing what i want but maybe i missed it.....and help would be appreciated

In iTunes, go to the taskbar, click on File and Add Folder To Library. Find your music folders and so forth. It will put them back into iTunes.

  • Cannot import music already on my computer into itunes

I have tried dragging and dropping both music folders and individual files (songs) into my itunes music library but when I do so nothing shows up in the view screens. Nothing is being transfered.
I have also tried importing using the file tab and adding folders or files command and this does not work either.
The music files are .rmj, I don't know if this matters or not.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thank you.

iTunes can handle AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF and Apple Lossless. You need to convert them to one of those formats.

I converted songs that I had purchased through itunes into ringtones on my sons iphone. Now when he goes to play his music on his iphone those same  songs will only play 40 seconds (same as the ringtone). I went back to itunes and in the music they show the full length but will only play 40 seconds, the same as the ringtone. How do I get the full length of the song back in itunes and in music on the iphone?

Right mouse clcic the music in iTune library, select "Get Info", then OPTION tab, uncheck start and stop time, then OK.
Took me a while to figure it out myself.
