Converting Songs and Shuffle Memory

Hey there. I purchased my iPod shuffle (1G) around two months ago and I think that Apple did everyone a favor by coming up with the iPod. It's an amazing piece of technology.
I just have a few questions about the iPod options. I have alloted 129 MB for data storage on my shuffle, and with that space reserved, I was able to put 192 songs on my shuffle before it said that there is not enough memory to put in more songs. I recently tried clicking on the option "convert higher bitrate songs to 128 kbps AAC for this iPod", and I was able to put in up to 217 songs (and counting) total. Is this normal? What's puzzling me is that there is a discrepancy between the memory displayed in iTunes. On one of the displays (while autofilling), reads 956.7 MB. But the one below it displays that only 846.3 MB is used. Do I still have the 129 MB I reserved for my data? Whenever I check the iPod options, it displays that 129 MB is indeed reserved for data.
I would really appreciate any enlightenment regarding this.
Thanks!

Hey Todd. Thanks for the response. The data part of my shuffle isn't full but I have two documents saved in it which are about 150 KB in total. They're still there. Do you think I should try filling it up?

  • Converting songs and how itunes titles files

Here's the story. I uploaded hundreds on cds converting them into wma files, using itunes, because I wanted the best possible quality. Planning to later re-add the actual files on another itunes library (on another computer).
I later found discovered that apparently, because of file type limitations, there were only 35 characters available, so if you have a song that is longer (usually with remixes etc) the actual file name loses part of the song info. This made a subsequent adding to another library complicated because I had to complete the song titles in the new itunes etc.
So I was told mp3's hold more space for titles (after all when you get song files from people etc, they have longer titles, I thought) and decided to convert all the wma files into mp3s using the same itunes library that converted the cds to wmas.
I then found out there was no change in how itunes titled the mp3s, so the actual files don't hold all the song title.
Is this just how itunes work, or was I told something incorrect, that mp3s can hold more info in their title than wmas?
(I did all this to avoid having to use itunes to use the files and to have just proper stand-alone mp3's of all those cds with complete titles)

  • How do i fix my ipod touch from skipping songs ? shuffle is shut off

my ipod touch is skipping songs and shuffle is off . how do i fix this ?

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync and resync all music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

  • Wasn't there an option to convert songs to 128kbs for shuffles?

I must be losing my mind!
Wasn't there an option to convert songs to 128kbs for shuffles in earlier versions of itunes? Before 7.x?

it's still there (at least it is on mine). Connect the shuffle and go to it's Settings tab."Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" is in the Options section at the bottom.

  • Play ends when song ends - Shuffle and Continuous Play not working

I'm pretty sure I did not install an update prior to this starting. Since the problem began, however, I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled to see if that would solve the problem and it did not.
I typically play songs, on shuffle, from my main library. When I open iTunes shuffle is automatically selected and I click on the play button to choose a random song. Since this past thursday when I click the play button nothing happens. I have to manually choose a song to play. Once the song has ended iTunes does not choose another song (if on shuffle) nor does it play the proceeding song on the list (if on normal play). In order to play another song I have to choose another. Once that song ends I have to select another and so on.
I have checked the settings and I don't see anything that could be effecting the way iTunes plays the songs.

    *Figured it out*
Somehow, all of my songs where not checked....

  • My ipod touch 4th gen stops shuffling at song 12 repeat and shuffle bars are blue - what could be wrong

my ipod touch 4th gen stops shuffling at song 12, and the music stops all together, does not go to next song - I am playing my ipod on my Bose system  -  the repeat and shuffle bars remain blue - it only occurs on this particular playlist -Note:  I created this playlist on my ipad - the first ipad out - with icloud it is on my ipod as well -  I am totally baffled - and have checked settings, etc - do you think i need to connect to computer to sync?  Please help

While playing any song on your iPod, tap the artwork to bring up the scrubber bar and additional controls. On the left hand side is a option for repeat. You want to make sure this icon is white (meaning it is set to Off). If it isn't tap it either one or two times to change its current setting.
    Any luck there?

  • Hey, when i deblockaded my ipod nano 5thgen, all the songs and vids' dissapeared but my memory is still filled as 'others'... How do i get my music back? (restoring doesn't work cuz the songs were from a laptop, but it crashed...) thx!!

Hey everyone, when my ipod( nano, 5th generation) was stucked, i deblockaded it, but then all the music and video's dissapeared.... And  when i check thee info it says '6.4 GB others' and '567 MB free.... And don't know how this could happen but i really want all my music back!! And i cant put all the songs back because the laptop i used for this ipod crashed and it's still in the store to ffix it... So now i have a lapop that i borowod from the store but i only have 100 songs on that laptop ( manual mode, so i can put them on the ipod but i cant tpuch the others)  and that means i would download 1200 songs, and that really takes a long time... And my memory is full, so i can't put new songs on it.... S, the question: is there a way i can get all my songs back?? And if that is impossible, how do i clear my memory, so it's free for new songs??
    Already thanx a lot!!
    mmuuuuaahh,
    Charlaih

Well, shut my mouth!  There was a similar question over to the right about a 6th generation nano repeating over and over again -- I read the answer to that one, followed the instructions, and holy crap, it's back to normal.
Is there a name for this when you end up replying to your own aggravating question?  That's what I did.  Now I can go out and listen.  It's only 91 degrees.  Heaven. Thanks, Apple.

Assuming you bought the song at the iTunes Store, you can go here
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
and follow one of the "paths" to get what you need or to an Apple customer support employee.  One path is to click Contact Support at the bottom of the list of choices, and use the Express Lane.
The iTunes app also has a way to report a problem with a purchase.  Select iTunes Store in the sidebar (of the iTunes window).  Toward the upper right corner, click on your Apple ID.  This gets you to your Account Information screen.  Find Purchase History and click See All.  On that screen, you can select a specific purchase with that problem, and Report a Problem.
If you want to try to figure out WHY that song does not play on your iPod shuffle, please post back...

I had older ipod shuffle that broke and purchased over two hundred in songs and dont have that email and dont remember password. I just bought the new shuffle and want to see how I can access those songs without having to pay for them again.

You'll need to contact Apple then for help on resetting some of that account information.

This is good for me but what happened?
I don't understand the question...  Did something happen that you think should not have happened?
It took such a long time to sync, because iTunes was converting songs with bit-rate higher than 128 kbps "on the fly" while syncing.  That takes much longer than just syncing the songs.
Also, since you have so much space on your iPod (compared to the size of your music library), you should not use that "convert to 128 kbps AAC" setting.  For songs that are encoded higher than 128 kbps, the conversion reduces sound quality.  You may want to uncheck Sync Music and Apply, to remove the songs on the iPod currently, and then sync it all again without the "convert" setting checked this time.

  • HT1339 I have an ipod classic.  I have approx. 2000 songs on it.  WHen I move the settings to shuffle all music, the music stops in the middle of the song and moves on to the next one.  It happens every other song or so.

I have an Ipod classic 120gb.  I have approximately 2000 songs on it.  When I put it on shuffle to play it, it stops in the middle of songs and moves to the next.  This happens every other two songs or so.  Please help!

Try playing the song again and if it does it in the same spot on both your ipod and itunes then you have a corrupted file. You need to re-download the song. Don't worry, this is free if you bought it on iTunes. First, verify that you did buy the song on iTunes and not anywhere else. Go to the iTunes store. On the right hand side of the window there is a column named quick links. Look for "Purchased" about 2/3 of the way down. Click on it. The next window that shows up should show you all the tunes you have bought. Find your tune and you'll see that is says "downloaded." Now you know you have the tune.
Now go back to your music library on the left hand column of the window. Click on Music. Find that tune that is giving you the problem. Delete the song.
Now go back to the iTunes store like before and go back to your "purchased" list. The page needs to be reloaded Press the back button and then click "purchased" again on iTunes so the list reloads. Find your tune again. Now instead of it saying "Downloaded," it has a picture of a cloud with an arrow pointing down. Click on it and the tune will download again with, I hope, no problems. I hope this helps.

  • Converting Songs to 128kbps and AAC

How do you convert songs to 128kbps and to an AAC format?

    1) Confirm you import settings are set to the desired format. In ITunes go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Importing than select in your case ACC encoder and the desired bitrate.
    2) Highlight the desired songs to be converted using shift (Music store songs will not convert but they would be in this format anyways) than right click and say Convert Selection to ACC.
