Converting to a mac - captions

I have been using Photoshop 8 on a pc - I have numerous catalogues and albums that have captions - can I see these captions when I move the photos to a mac?  Am using Photoshop 8 for a mac - there is no organizer - just the bridge or iphoto.

There's a Mac web site you should remember:  www.versiontracker.  Basically, they list all software that runs on a Mac.  Let's say you have an unusual requirements that involves camels.  You would go to versiontracker, type in "camels" and see what pops up.  I tried it during our last exchange and typed in "photo" and "Windows".  Alas, there were no hits.
I had a lot more success with your album.  It showed up as a folder with ten pictures.  You can see it in the first picture below,  On the left you can see all the metadata that showed up on this picture.
I then imported the folder into one of my iPhoto libraries - my iPad library.  (I bought an iPad two weeks ago.)  I had no problem importing everything into iPhoto as ten separate pictures.  You can seem them below in my iPhoto library.
I pulled up the metadata for the same picture and have it displayed in the picture below.  Not all the metadata seems to show up.  I don't know if that is normal because I'm just an amateur photographer, and don't use metadata.
My conclusion is that you would have absolutely no problem transferring your pictures as long as you just expand on what you did with me - export your pictures one album at a time, and store each album of exported pictures in a separate, labeled folder.  Since all the folders will make your desktop a nightmare, I'd put all the separate album folders in another folder labeled "My Pictures".
Then just put the folders on a flash drive or an external hard drive and transport them to your Mac.  You could e-mail them, but I suspect you have a lot of pictures.  E-mails would take a lot of time.  It will be slow work to import each folder into iPhoto, but there doesn't seem to be any alternative.
In the Mac iPhoto library, you can put the same picture in multiple albums by putting what is called an "alias" in all but one of the folders.  The alias really is just a pointer to the "real" picture.  I'm not sure if you can do something like that in the Windows world.  If you can, be very careful to see how the Catalog handles the exporting of that aliased picture.  Ideally, the export of an alias should result in the "real" picture being exported.
After you get everything transferred over to the Mac, you should keep a copy of your old Windows Catalog for a long time.  I keep three backup hard disks.  I take one to the bank every Monday, and exchange it for the one that is in my safety deposit box.  I have a third drive that I keep in my gun safe.  Every six months, I bring it up to date.  In the meantime, that third drive is my long-term backup.  You want to be very sure you got all the pictures before you destroy this old Windows Catalog.
I hope this helps you.

  • Final Cut Pro X and Mac Caption Site Licenses

How much does it cost for a site license for Final Cut Pro X and Mac Caption?  I need to have one computer going for production and one for training someone.  Is there 501C-3 pricing available?

FCP X can be used on as many Macs as you own.  Be sure each is logged in to your iTunes/App Store account.  So for two Macs that you own, you can download to both, only pay for one.
There is a bulk license deal for it, but you'd need to be running 10+ Macs before you'd get any discount or anything.
Mac Caption is an issue you'll have to take up with them.

  • Converter software for mac

I have lots of CD's and cassette tapes that I would like to get into a digital format for use on an Iphone or Ipad. The windows world has a  free program on the CNET downloads site called "Free Studio" that does all this stuff. Anyone know the best way to convert on a Mac Mini?

Normally you would use your itunes to import the CDs. Then you can sync them to your iphone.
For analog tapes/cassettes I use Audacity to record and then export them to wav or mp3 formats, load them into itunes and sync to the iphone.

No, Creative Suites and their serial numbers are platform-specific.  Platform swaps are only supported for the most recent release, which is currently CS6.

  • Mac Caption

Within the last month, my church has stepped up from a PC running Adobe Premiere to a G5 Quad, using FCP, with a Black Magic DeckLink Extreme. We produce a show for a local NBC affiliate. We purchased this system to be able to close caption our program. We are using Mac Caption, which we can import into FCP, but we can't get the captions to show when we output to DV. I've read several of the posts mentioning cropping, rendering, etc., but none seem to help us. Can anyone help?

you must use MacCaption only after you have finished editing your video in FCP
    in FCP:
    finish your edit
    export as a DV file
    in MacCaption:
open the DV file, add the captions, and save
    in FCP:
create a new empty DV sequence
import the new captioned copy of the DV file and edit into the new sequenece
output to tape... do not render
The method you are trying to use, where you import the captions from MacCaption into the NLE, to place them, does not work with Final Cut Pro. It is not currently on the compatability list. The Decklink hardware supports it, but Final Cut Pro does not. When you "render" the file created by FCP will not contain the line21 encoded captions.
sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but that does seem to be the current situation with FCP and Closed Caption support.
    Best Regards

There isn't. You were able to use Safari because Apple wrote a version of it for Windows.

My PC crashed. I am thinking of converting to a Mac and all of my software is PC based.
All of my Adobe software is on disk; CS5 Production Premium, CS 5 Web Premium, Lightroom 5
    1) How do I convert from Windows OS to Mac OS or will I have to purchase additional software to make them compatible
    2) Are updates available if I have to reinstall from disk with the Windows OS
    3) What options do I have available?

You will need to upgrade to CS6 and make the platform switch, though even that actually doesn't make much sense. There are notable compatibility issues with OS X 10.10. all software these days are downloads.

Do I have to get all new apps if I convert from PowerPC Mac to Intel?

but they perhaps loosely paraphrase " How compatible your application is with Rosetta depends on the type of application it is. An application such as a word processor that has a lot of user interaction and low computational needs is quite compatible. An application that requires a moderate amount of user interaction and has some high computational needs or that uses OpenGL is most likely also quite compatible. One that has intense computing needs isn’t compatible. This includes applications that need to repeatedly compute fast Fourier transforms (FFTs), that compute complex models for 3-D modeling, or that compute ray tracing."  as including Photoshop among apps that have " intense computing needs " - maybe the wiki author found that to be the case on an older machine?.
Very loosely!  Actually that quote from Wikipedia is wrong with regard to Adobe Photoshop and should be corrected (at least as it applies to version 9, CS2, after which, later versions, starting with CS3 do not need Rosetta in any event).
While I am not sure about the rest of that quoted phrase (acually in most of my posts on this forum indicating my solution for running PowerPC applications [Installing Snow Leopard with Rosetta into Parallels] in Lion or Mt. Lion, I do note: "Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization." I do, however, see this as a virtualization problem and not a Rosetta problem (as opposed to these programs running on a computer that can actually boot into Snow Leopard and run these programs in emulation, where Rosetta should not pose a problem).
My experience with Adobe Photoshop is limited to CS2, which is now available for free download from the Adobe website.  My uses for this program are limited, such as when one frustrated Mt. Lion upgrader noted that Apple should post a flag about the loss of Rosetta (see my graphic posted above).
But my understanding is that Adobe Photoshop (at least up to version CS2) does not require any rendering, which could be hampered and slow in virtualization and perhaps additionally with Rosetta.
Use of Photoshop 9 (CS2) appears to be similar to use of Freehand MX and none of the users of either of these powerpc applications have come back with any complaints after my suggestion to them on how to continue to run these powerpc apps in Lion or Mt. Lion.

  • Ac adapter or converter for EU Mac Mini in the US?

    Hey everyone
I live in Europe and plan to move to the US soon
I have a Mac Mini which I plan to bring with me
Do I need a step down converter or will a simple adapter like that (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC556LL/B/apple-85w-magsafe-power-adapter-for- 15-and-17-inch-macbook-pro?fnode=5a) will do, as from what I've read, the Mac Mini used 85W as well
    Appericate your opinions, thanks

Yes, but I would get a power cords instead of an adapter.

  • Is there a converter for the Mac Mini

I have a Mac Mini - here, in the States.
I may have the opportunity to spend time in England and would love to bring the computer with me. Did Apple make a power converter for it? Would DC power hurt the MINI? Anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you for your help in advance,
    Jackie

Yes mooblie - it was helpful.
It's been a rough day - and you do not know me to understand - I didn't need anything "extra" added - I can only handle so much in a day...
I've been on line with a young thing - who has been having temper tantrums and says I'm condescending - when all I'm doing is helping her identify a font for a project and wishing her luck on it.
I think folks have forgotten the interaction that actual conversation offers. And yes, I may be considered in the stone age - to yourself, as my friend Scott would tell you - "she is old enough to be your grandma" always hated him for saying it - but it does make me laugh... and most likely, true!
Shall we start again. I have a Mac Mini in the USA - can I use it in England safely? If yes - how?

  • Great converter program for Mac

I have a ton of wmv files for professional presentations from my 'pre-Mac' days, and because work computers are Windows based. One of my friends with the same issues of needing to edit wmv on her Mac recommended iSkysoft Video Converter - it's about $35 and it works perfectly, quickly, and will converter all video types to any other type. Just wanted to share.
