  • ITUnes converted all the wav files on my computer to m4a. How do I recover them?

iTunes took it upon itself to convert all of the .wav music files on my computer to .m4a, a much lower-quality format. How can I get the .wav files back?

    Hi someonefromminnesota,
Depending on how the tracks were imported/converted, the original .wav files may still be located in their original location, and an .m4a copy may have been added to the iTunes Library. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Want to convert in to wav file !

i'm working on the project which is about to generate WAV file from RTP (real-time protocol) packets.
Basically, this program should read packets from a data file (PCAP
format) that contains RTP packets for a VoIP stream and then
convert it to WAV file which can be played in Media player.
as you are very experince developer can you guide me how could i do it.or where to start?

i think you can create a Processor that gets an url as input locator or that creates an RTP session an listens for the input stream. To convert to wav, just take processor track control and content descriptor or file type descriptor and adjust them to convert to wav format (AudioFormat). To write to a file, set the rigth locator.
good example of writting and changing format:

  • Converting AAC to WAV Files in iTunes

I'm converting a bunch of files from AAC to WAV in iTunes. It's working fine, but the file sizes of the new files are HUGE (like 40MB per song huge). Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong??
    Thanks,

    Hi Folks,
Ok I am curious here. I've got version 7.3.2.6 Now I'm not having any problems with the Itunes program. My question is I've got Itunes to save my music in AAC format. I was wondering if I changed it to MP3 Will it convert all the music in my Itunes library to MP3 format even those for which I purchased from the Itunes store? Will it do so without messing up any of my music?
The reason that I'm asking is due to the fact that I've now got a Motorola Razor that plays music and I'm pretty sure that it plays MP3.
    Thanks

  • How do you convert mov to wav files?

How do you convert .mov files to .wav files in iMovie 10? I can no longer find the Share/Quicktime/Options tabs.

    * the .mov container can be handled by any PC with a free download of Quicktime for Windows; but many PC users hesitate doing so, because on the Apple website it looks like you instali iTunes too... many PC don't like that...
    * .mp4 can be handled by any actual PC mediaplayer... again: PC users are used to import .wmv (or the very old .avi container/not supported by YouTube)
    * for exporting .wmv on a Mac, you need to buy a licence at www.flip4mac.com
    * mpeg... the MotionPictureExpertGroup published many codecs... mpeg1, mpeg2, mpeg4, h261, h264. .... but using iM as exporter, all these mpegs will be "hidden" in the QT container .mov... with QTpro you can strip-off the container, but I recommed the beginner to use one of the above mentioned options......

  • Problems converting WAV file

I'm trying to convert a ~250MB wav file to an MP3 using iTunes and I keep getting an error message that says:
"The disk could not be read from or written to". I can't play the file in iTunes either.
Does anyone know what the limit is for converting such files?
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm gonna try using GarageBand to convert the file perhaps...

If Garageband doesn't work, try Audacity.

    Hi Captfoss!
I fixed it but now I have another problem. My application send me this message:
Cannot initialize audio renderer with format: LINEAR, Unknown Sample Rate, 16-bit, Mono, LittleEndian, Signed
Unable to handle format: ALAW/rtp, Unknown Sample Rate, 8-bit, Mono, FrameSize=8 bits

    Error: Unable to prefetch com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@1b45ddc
This time the fail is prefetching. I have no idea why this problem is. Could you help me?The system cant play an audio file / stream if it doesn't know the sample rate...somewhere along the way, in your code, the sample rate got lost. Sample rates are highly important, because they tell the system how fast to play the file.
You need to go look through your code and find where the sample rate information is getting lost...

  • Problem in playing back mp3 which was recorded as wav file

    Hi all,
I have recorded sound using my program. It uses classes like AudioSystem. And it's
able to record and play also. but in my site I have an mp3 player. So i thought of converting the recorded wav file into mp3. For this i used LAME utility in Linux. And it was converted. Also it is being played in normal players like Winamp. But when i try to play this converted mp3 file using my player in my site it's having problem. Why is it like that?
Should i do something while capturing the sound from microphone so that it can be converted into mp3 format??
    Or
Can I directly capture voice to an mp3 file??
    In my program,
    targetDataLine.open(audioFormat) where audioFormat is like
    float sampleRate = 8000.0F;
    int sampleSizeInBits = 16;
    int channels = 1;
    boolean signed = true;
    boolean bigEndian = false;
Should I do something more or change something??
    Please help me...
    Thanx and Regards,
    sand...

    Thanks Walter.
Unfortunately, the same issue happens... In whichever window I select "Bounce" from -- Environment, Audio Mixer, or even FILE > BOUNCE -- a window titled "Bounce 'Output 1-2' " pops up. I'm guessing this is what you mean by the "Bounce Output Window." But, there I'm only able to name the file in the "Save As" field, choose where to bounce the file to on my harddrive, and then click on "Bounce" in the bottom-right of the window. I have no tabs or anything else to choose from. So I'm still a little stumped. Any additional thoughts?
    I really appreciate the help.

  • Convert mp3 to Wav?

Hi, i'm looking for a software that would allow me to convert mp3 to wav files. I have to upload files but the source only accepts wav files and I can't get itunes to export to wav format so your help would be much appreciated.

I've used EasyWMA to convert audio formats before, and it may be able to do what you want. There is a limited free trial available:
    http://www.easywma.com/
You can also try searching versiontracker.com or macupdate.com with the file types to see if there is other conversion software available.

  • Sync'd .wav files on iPod not playing

I have iTunes version 8.0.1.11, iPod version 1.3 fifth generation w/video. I have two .wav files on iTunes that playing perfectly. #1 .wav file=36.6 MB, #2 .wav file=4.8 MB. Sync onto iPod appears fine. The bar at bottom of iPod page indicates that 41.4 MB has been sync'd onto iPod. On the iPod itself, all the sub-menus identify the .wav files present on the iPod. However, when I push the play button on iPod the play page comes up for each .wav file but nothing happens. The progress bar at bottom of play page has no movement, no increasing green bar. I have tested the iPod by sync'g part of an audiobook onto the iPod. No problem. After I attempt to play the .wav file then play page goes black. Yesterday I had no problem sync'g a similar .wav file onto same iPod. Thank you.

Try converting the files to something else or even "converting" them to WAV files again forcing iTunes to create new copies. Then sync those and see if it works any better. A Wav to Wav "conversion" will be lossless. Or do a WAV to AIFF (also lossless) conversion and see if the AIFF files play.
    Good luck,
    Patrick

  • How can I convert an AiFF File to a Wav file?

How can I convert an AiFF File to a Wav file?
Any free software out there? or can iTunes or Quicktime perform this task?
    -D

or can iTunes or Quicktime perform this task?
    Yes to both.
In Quicktime Export -> Export Sound to Wave
In iTunes, check your preferences for General>Import and then right click on the file to convert to WAV
    Also STP can do that.
Double click the file to open it in the File Editor and Save as, then select Wave as the filetype.

  • How do I convert a Simple Sound file to a .WAV file?

    Since I have a Mac Mini (w/Intel CPU) I don't have a built-in microphone.
I do, however, have an OS 9.1 Wall Street Powerbook with a built-in mike.
I'd like to send voicemail to friends who use Windows XP
I used Simple Sound to record a message on the Powerbook and e-mailed
it to myself. Now what? IMovieHD will apparently (according to Pogue) convert the sound portion of a movie to .WAV but when I open a New Project in IMovieHD my sound file is ghosted.
Is there an app in Tiger that will convert the sound (voice) file? Or perhaps some freeware app out there?

    Hi, gwgoldb.
USB microphones are very inexpensive. I'd suggest getting one of those and simply doing the recording on your new Mac Mini.
    For recording:
    • You could use the previously-suggested freeware Audacity to record and save the recording as .wav. Note Audacity isn't a Universal Binary at this time, so it would run under Rosetta.
    •  Use QuickTime Pro for recording and converting (export) the recording to .wav. Some people balk at paying US$ 29.99 for a QuickTime Pro key, but I find it does a nice job in basic recording, converting audio/video, and basic A/V editing, all with the simplicity of the QuickTime interface.
    Good luck!

  • Itunes won't import or convert .wav files?

I have a bunch of .wav files that I wanted to import to itunes, so that I could convert/burn them to cd's. I don't have any problem playing the files in Quicktime. But when I import them, although it appears to work fine, if I try to play it, it won't play, it skips to the next song. When I try to convert to mp3, it gives me the message:
Error occurred while converting the file "xxx".
The disk could not be read from or written to.
The files are just on my desktop, not on a CD. I don't have a problem converting other files. What could be causing this?

Same complaint here. I use an 80gb iPod Classic with an Alesis iMultimix USB8 live mixer to record performances at our local open mic. Starting in April, the WAV files from the iPod would automatically stream into iTunes when I connected the iPod, and it was a snap to select a whole evening's worth and convert the lot to MP3 to save archiving space (by a ton). Starting in September, I seem to have some kind of random corruption of these files.
Some hang up the program immediately upon being selected and the "convert to mp3" chosen from the Advanced menu. Others start to convert and then hang up, usually with 10-15 seconds left to convert. Others convert just as before without problems. I have had to force-quit iTunes a number of times to unlock the system. This is getting really old, and what was a semi-automated process has become one of picking through the files one by one, force-quitting when it hangs, then deleting the culprit when I re-open iTunes. I'm losing some irreplaceable recordings, which pretty much negates the whole purpose of capturing everything every week.
I don't recall when I made the last prompted update of iTunes, but it very likely could have been just before this started happening.
Another glitch in this recording method that's a bit off topic: there really should be a two-step procedure to delete a voice memo. More than once I have deleted an abortive performance, then recorded the next one. When I pause it and the menu comes up, it's easy not to notice that the selected option is still "delete". I make about 20 of these recordings every week, and it's my habit to select "stop and save" quickly so as to get the next one started. If we got a second screen asking if we're sure we want to delete, it would be easy to catch.
The voice memo feature is great, especially with a mixer than can use the iPod as a hard drive to capture live performances, but the software needs work!
