Converting to MP3 files

I've always preferred the MP3 format for my music, but upon downloading the latest version of iTunes (9.1) I am no longer able to change my purchased music to the MP3 format. Am I not looking in the right place or did they take away this feature? In previous versions of iTunes I would simply right click on the file (windows computer) and was given the option to create an MP3. This option is no longer listed in iTunes 9.1. Any Answers?

thank you - I believe it worked, however I am having trouble with the implementation.
It creates a duplicate version of the song encoded in MP3 which I can find by using a search. However, I was trying to convert a single playlist and then burn to disc, this way I have to manually look up each song, and create a new playlist.
Is there a shortcut which will put the new MP# version in a specific playlist?
Thanks

Everybody's wrong wrong wrong. You don't need garageband. Select the song, go to info. You need to select a start and stop time for the song that can't be any longer than 40 seconds in length. Then in advanced mode you convert the song to acc. once done locate the file on the computer. it should end in .m4a . Change the a to an r so it reads .m4r Drag the file to the desktop, double click and it ends up in ringtones folder.

Try running these songs through MP3 Validator to see if there any issues.
If nothing else, convert them to another format such as AAC via iTunes using the instructions in this Apple support document.

    Huh?
You can use iTunes or QuickTime Pro to convert an MP3 file into an AIF file for use in FCE.  But convert to a text file?  I don't think so.  But if that is what you really want to do, look here: https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=mp3+to+text&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8 &oe=utf-8&channel=suggest&gws_rd=ssl

If they will play but will not convert, you probably have DRM "protected" files.  Were they purchased prior to mid-2009?
If so, and you don't want to burn, your choice is either to replace them, or to upgrade them by using Match.  For the latter option, see
iTunes Store: iTunes Plus Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Convert regular mp3 file to podcast?

I regularly record radio shows on my desktop Mac and then put them on my ipod to hear later. I'm trying to find a way of marking those I've listened to on the ipod. I wondered about the possibility of making them podcast files, so that they go to the Podcast folder and get the blue-dot-unplayed/no-dot-played feature. This would give me what I want, I think - a way of managing visually on the ipod what I have and have not listened to. But how do I make a regular mp3 file 'think' that it is a podcast file? I've looked around - here and elsewhere - and it seems to involve esoteric stuff about id3 tags and particularly the pcst tag. But is there a very easy way for non-geek me to do what I want? Or even a way that doesn't involve converting to podcast files, but just marking the files on the ipod in some way as 'played'? I'd really welcome some advice from you knowledgeable guys.

Thank you chaps: they both sound like good schemes and I'll try them.
However, they both rely on reconnecting the ipod to the desktop machine to change the status of the played tracks: only then will they disappear as played tracks/podcasts.
Is there not a way of marking particular tracks in a playlist on the ipod, using the ipod, so that I can see which I've played and which not? The single-star rating trick doesn't help, because you don't see that on a list of tracks. Any other ideas?

  • How do you convert an MP3 file to play in iTunes.

I followed the directions in the Technical Support Section and when I highlight the file and click on it, the advanced tab doesn't allow you to highlight the "convert" option since it only appears in light grey. Any suggestions?

Ok. Are you sure that they are .mp3 files? In iTunes, highlight one of the offending files and Get Info. What does it say on the Summary tab next to format? Does it say MPEG-1, Layer 3? If yes, it's an .mp3 file. If not, what does it say. If it really is an mp3 file, opening it with Quicktime. What happens? If it's an mp3 file, it may have corrupted tag information. iTunes is rather sensitive to that. You can try going to the Advanced menu in iTunes and selecting Convert ID3 tags.... I'd choose version 2.4 and see if that helps.
    Best of luck.

  • Converted iTunes MP3 Files Won't Play in PowerPoint

Help! I had music on my laptop before owning an iPod, and when I loaded iTunes all my music files converted to iTunes. I have several PowerPoint presentations that run to music, and now the songs won't play in the presentations. I converted the iTunes files back to MP3 format, but they still won't play in the PowerPoint presentations.
How can I get these songs, which I owned long before I loaded iTunes, to play in my presentations? Everything was fine until I loaded iTunes. I am extremely frustrated--those presentations represent WEEKS worth of work, and now they are useless.

  • How can I convert MP3 file to AIFF to use in FCP?

    Hi guys,
How can I convert an MP3 file to AIFF file to use it in Final Cut Pro?
    Anyone please,
    Thanks in advance,
    Zia

#5 Imported music from CD or iTunes
    Shane's Stock Answer #5:
To get music into FCP, it needs to be an AIFF file at 48khz, 16 bit stereo. So if you want a song from a CD, you go into the iTunes Preferences and set this up under the IMPORTING tab:
File > preferences > importing > import using - AIFF encoder > Setting - Custom
    Sample Rate - 48.000 kHz
    Sample size - 16 bit
    Channels - Stereo
If you have an mp3 that you want to use, then you can convert it thru iTunes as well.
If the piece of music you want to use is something you purchased thru iTunes, I'm afraid I can't help you there. There are copywrite issues that prevent files from being converted into the format that FCP can recognize.

  • Itnues 10.1 update wom't convert MP3 files to ACC files

Grrr having a nightmare at the moment. I'm trying to convert some MP3 files to ACC format but the option has gone from the drop down menu. This has only been since I updated to 10.1. What is going on with Apple at the moment. Has anyone else had this problem and if so did you manage to resolve it? I did try to go back a version but that is no good :0( woud really appreciate some advice
    Thanks

could be a permissions problem. try this:
check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in finder, right-click on it and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so
the important part is to *apply to enclosed items* !
also try repairing permissions on your startup disk using *disk utility* (in applications/utilities). don't worry if you see strange errors ➠ _*permission repair messages you can safely ignore*_.
as long as you see +permissions repair complete+ @ the end, you're in the green.

  • Adobe Audition 3.0.1 - Saving/Converting WAV's to MP3 adds small amounts of time to my MP3 files !!?

    Hello.
I am new to the Forum, but turning to the masses out there for help with a weird one!
I have used Adobe Audition for YEARS. I do a lot of converting of my finished WAV files to Mp3 files. The finished WAV's have always been in 48000Hz, 16 bit Stereo, and are always mixed to the specified time (e.g. 15, 30 or 60 seconds duration). These are then converted to mp3 files, using the 'Save As' option, choosing the 'Save As Type' as mp3PRO (Fhg) (*.mp3) option.
My conversion settings have always been:
CBR, mp3, 320Kbps 48000Hz Stereo (4:8:1), Maximum bandwith = 24000Hz, CBR Rate = 320, Sample Rate = 48000Hz, Codec = Current - Best Quality, Allow mid-side joint stereo, allow intensity joint stereo, Set 'Private' Bit, ISO Padding, Write CRC Check Sums.
...Now, for some strange reason, ever since last night, whenever I do the above process - the resulting mp2 file seems to ADD ON little bits of time...from 0.048 of a second to around 0.168 of a second..!!??? So to further clarify: If I convert a 15 second WAV file to mp3 - the resulting mp3 file ends up being slightly longer in duration at: 15.168 seconds..???
This has never happened before. And, a solution has got me beat.
I have tried different conversion settings, different configurations - even saving the initial WAV as a lower sample rate - but, no joy.
I have an old version of Adobe Audition 2.0 on a different machine - and guess what?! Even IT does this same weird thing now too.
It doesn't seem to matter if I REC and convert new files or convert old files - same problem.
Even opening up mp3 files - that I KNOW were spot on for time - now also have these little bits of extra time added to them, once they are openned...??? What the...!!??
I spent over half an hour on the phone with Adobe Tech support, earlier this afternoon. They got me to reset all of my user configuration files - but, didn't slove the issue!
PLEASE:     Has anyone experienced this same conversion issue..? I would also be interested to know, if anyone else replicates these conversion settings, if they get the same problem..?
Could this be one of those good old Windows update things..?
Does anyone know if there are updates available for Auditions built-in mp3PRO encoder / decoder..?
    PLEASE HELP !!!
    Thank you, in advance.
    John.

Well I don't know how you've missed this before, but it's always done it. It's a throwback to Syntrillium days, when it was discovered that some MP3 players managed to cut off the starts and finishes of MP3 files. The developers got around this by adding a small amount of silence when coding an MP3. Originally, Audition's loop files were MP3-based as well, but these didn't have the added silence, because obviously that would screw up the looping a treat. But as far as I'm aware, even though players are better now (aren't they???), the additional silence remains.
I'm not surprised that the help desk doesn't know about this - it's a bit subtle. And with the best will in the world, they only have the crib sheets they're given, and they certainly don't cover everything that happens.

  • MP3 files do not appear in Library

I am having a problem with windows media player.  I am running Windows 7 and media player 12.  I have wav recordings of Swing Shift which I have converted to mp3 files and then used a tag editor to fill in the Artist and Album fields.  I included
the folder for the media player to add them to my media library and the first time I started the player they all appeared.  When I closed the media player and restarted they were gone.  I thought the database had gotten corrupted so I stopped the
WMPservice and deleted the data file and then restarted the WMPservice, started the media player and all of the files showed up again.  I stopped the media player and restarted the player and the files were gone.
These files do show in the library on my Windows XP machine running WMP 11.

Open the Windows Media Player Library troubleshooter by clicking the
Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type
troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Click
View all, and then click Windows Media Player Library.
This problem can also occur when the Windows Media Player library database get corrupt.
To resolve this problem, clear the Windows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps:
    a. Exit Windows Media Player.
    b. Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.
    c. Select all the files in the folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.
Note You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder.
    d. Restart Windows Media Player.
Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.
If this does not resolve the problem, clear the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:
    a. Exit Windows Media Player.
    b. Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.
    c. Select the Media Player folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.
    d. Restart Windows Media Player.
If the above doesn't help then try to
    reset WMP12.
You may need to create a User Account with Administrative privileges and recheck the issue.

  • I have audio books as mp3 files.  They will not play on our Ipad.  Is there a conversion I need to do?

We have audio books that are converted to mp3 files. They will not play on our 2-year old Ipad. What can I do to make them compatible?

Hi - what I neglected to include in the question is that the book was uploaded on Google Drive.  It sounds like I will need to make the book a playlist and upload it.

  • Two problems with MP3 files for interactive PDFs

    1. I'm putting in two interview excerpts for an interactive pdf. Last week when I tried to import the first MP3, I got the "cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation" error message. I don't know anything about sound files, so I just tried To MP3 from the App store, which converted my MP3 file to another MP3 file, I guess. The new file worked fine.
I got the second file today and had the same problem. I sent the following urls (http://indesignsecrets.com/forum/general-indesign-topics/how-to-place-an-mp3-file-into-ind esign-cs5-which-was-edited-with-audacity-and-converted-with-switch, http://indesignsecrets.com/forum/general-indesign-topics/no-filter-found-for-requested-ope ration-mp3) I found that seem to describe similar problems to our sound guy at work.He tried lowering the bit rate, but it didn't do any good. So when I got home, I tried To MP3, and it solved the problem again.
Does anybody know why this is happening?
    2. Once I had the first sound file in place, I wanted to replace the small gray box that Acrobat puts in. Bob Levine suggested
    http://indesignsecrets.com/hiding-sound-files-in-an-interactive-pdf.php
which worked great, but I needed some way to control the audio. I tried a variation of Steven Werner's suggestions in
    http://indesignsecrets.com/hiding-sound-files-in-an-interactive-pdf.php
It was working fine, when I had just a play and pause button, but when I added a resume, the play button just stopped working. I tried all sorts of variations, getting rid of the double actions in the buttons, starting new files, new buttons, but the play button just didn't work. In my last test, the play button worked, but only after I had pressed resume. So I am completely stumped.
Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.
    I'm using InDesign 7.0.4, Mac OSX 10.6.8
    Chris

OK, I should have thought more  before I answered.
So I see that Media Encounter does import audio files but it only exports video. However, I did a test with making a video file from the MP3, importing that video into InDesign, reducing the video, using the multi-function buttons, and everything worked fine. I got the warning message that the "interactive elements are clipped in ways that PDF files cannot reproduce" but it didn't interfere with playing it back. Still, I feel as if I'm cheating and something is going to come back and haunt me.
The disadvantage is that the video files are larger than the audio.
