Converting to no sound

I have downloaded different videos three different times. Each time same problem. It plays fine in itunes then I have to convert the file so it can be played on my IPOD. So I convert the file into the ipod thing just like it says then once it has finished the 10 min. process the new file doesn't have sound. When I play it on my IPOD or computer alike no sound. What do I do here?

What are you using to convert? It's probably not freeware, in which case (thought they don't make it very obvious usually) it's only a trial version, and won't actually do the job unless you purchase. Try Videora iPod Converter (google it); it's free, and does a pretty decent job.

  • Itunes/QT converts video from sound to no-sound

I have a video that has sound. when i convert it for ipod or when I convert in QT to ipod, it ends up converted with no sound. Any thoughts? Thanks!

iTunes and Quicktime don't much like muxed MPEG files, they lose the sound when you convert them.

  • How do I convert a Simple Sound file to a .WAV file?

    Since I have a Mac Mini (w/Intel CPU) I don't have a built-in microphone.
I do, however, have an OS 9.1 Wall Street Powerbook with a built-in mike.
I'd like to send voicemail to friends who use Windows XP
I used Simple Sound to record a message on the Powerbook and e-mailed
it to myself. Now what? IMovieHD will apparently (according to Pogue) convert the sound portion of a movie to .WAV but when I open a New Project in IMovieHD my sound file is ghosted.
Is there an app in Tiger that will convert the sound (voice) file? Or perhaps some freeware app out there?

    Hi, gwgoldb.
USB microphones are very inexpensive. I'd suggest getting one of those and simply doing the recording on your new Mac Mini.
    For recording:
    • You could use the previously-suggested freeware Audacity to record and save the recording as .wav. Note Audacity isn't a Universal Binary at this time, so it would run under Rosetta.
    •  Use QuickTime Pro for recording and converting (export) the recording to .wav. Some people balk at paying US$ 29.99 for a QuickTime Pro key, but I find it does a nice job in basic recording, converting audio/video, and basic A/V editing, all with the simplicity of the QuickTime interface.
    Good luck!

  • Converted videos without sound

i have added and converted 5 videos to ipod format, and added to my ipod.
even though the videos had sound before they are not playing with sound on my ipod or on my itunes
how can i make it play with sound

The discussion of converting/ripping DVDs to iPod format is forbidden on these boards - [Terms of Use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa]. I would suggest searching the internet or going to the [iPod Lounge|http://www.ipodlounge.com] to find what you're looking for, because I'm sure you're talking about converting your home movie DVDs to iPod format and not breaking the Copywrite protection of Commercial DVDs and U.S. Federal Law in the process.
P.S. Breaking Copywrite Protection is also against the law in most other countries as well.

  • Convert bytearray into sound

    Hey..
I'm using blazeDs to comunicate with java classes, and i call a method that returns a sound file, that could either be wav or mp3,
i recieve it as a ByteArray, and i need to convert it and play, i tried Loader.loadBytes, but i get an error saying that it's an incompatible type.
    Any help??
    Thank you all so much..
    Leandro

I don't know of any APIs to let you play sound from a bytearray.  Someone might have cooked up a solution so search the internet.
One way you could do it is to add a SWF header to the byte array so it looks like a simple SWF with just a sound in it.

  • Converting 12-bit sound to 16-bit

Hello, I've run into the 12-bit bug in iDVD that causes imported sound to drop out. Short of exporting back to the camera and re-importing in 16-bit is there any other way to convert, perhaps with software (free/shareware?) I have rather alot of mini-dvd's recorded in 12-bit and the idea of all this back and forth is daunting.

  • QT7Pro - Movies convert with no sound when converting to iPod

I bought QT7Pro last night, wanting to convert movies (.avi and .mpg) I have on my computer. They play and have sound in QT just fine, but when I go to convert them to MPEG-4 or convert for iPod, the options claim to have no audio track and it winds up being a silent video. How can I convert my movies without losing the sound on them?

QuickTime Pro doesn't (can't) export audio from muxed files (MPEG 1 or 2 and Flash).
Use other software to export those formats to the iPod settings. A quick search through the iPod discussions pages (now over one million views) will give you some software ideas.

  • Converting videos: No sound

When I play a video on my computer it works just fine, and there's sound and everything. But when I convert it using itunes so that I can put it on my ipod, the product of the conversion doesn't play any sound, neither on my ipod or on my computer. Any suggestions as to why this is happening would be great, thanks.

  • Converting movies with sound

I just gor Quicktime pro after buying my SLVR L7 phone from singular. I wanted to put movies in it but needed to convert them. I FINALLY found out how to convert movies for my SLVR L7 but now they don't have sound. How can I convert MPEG movies into 3gpp with sound? I don't get the choice when exporting.

I had issues with this same thing on a number of music videos I pulled off of "enhanced" CD's. Sound would be fine in QT but the iPod format file would be soundless. I ended up having to use VLC to export the video to a new file (I think I streamed it to a new file) and convert that one with QT Pro.

  • Converted Video loses sound

OK so I just got an iPhone and with the exception of a few niggling errors I'm quite happy with it.
I've got a few videos I'd like to put on there, 3 in particular that are already in quicktime and 320x240. It won't let me put those directly onto the iPhone so I use the "convert for iPod" function which takes a minute but when is finished, has no sound... Even when I play it in iTunes. This would seem to be a codec problem but I'm no expert here.
Can someone help me out with this problem?

Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert the videos; more information is available in this article.

  • ITunes converts video, drops sound.

Everytime I spend 4+ hours converting a 20 minute video, iTunes cuts out the sound on the video.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • Ipod video converts with no sound

when i convert videos to ipod they have no sound, they play with sound in itunes but when i convert them there's none can someone pleeeease help!!!

What software are you using to convert the videos to iPod format?
If you are using Quicktime Pro, or iTunes 6 to do the conversion... then that is most likely where your problem lies.
Your source video file is probably muxed.
Neither QT Pro or iTunes has the ability to successfully encode a muxed video file with audio. You'll end up with video and no audio.
You'll need to use some other third-party software to do the conversion. There's a handful of software available. Just search the forums and you'll find many titles mentioned.
    Try MPEG Streamclip.

  • Convert to MP3 (sound quality)?

I have two questions about converting Itunes files to MP3s, but I will include the Itunes instruction here, so you'll know what I'm referencing.  I have an Imac with OS 10.7.4 and here are the instructions (italicized):
You can convert a song to a different file format (and keep a copy of the original). For example, you can save a copy of a compressed song file such as MP3 or AAC in an uncompressed song format (AIFF or WAV).
When converting from a compressed to uncompressed file format (for example, from MP3 to AIFF), you shouldn’t notice any reduction in sound quality. However, when converting between compressed formats (for example, MP3 and AAC), you may notice a reduction in the sound quality. For the best results, if you want your music encoded in a different file format, import the music again from the original source using the new encoding format.
Important:  You can’t convert iTunes Store purchases unless they’re iTunes Plus songs.
    HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:
    1. What type of file type is an Itunes music file?  Is it compressed?
    2.  Will I lose sound quality if I convert an Itunes music file to MP3 in order to move it over to a Garmin GPS (which supports only MP3s) and therefore would it be best to follow their instructions to reimport my music using an MP3 encode?
    Thank you in advance!

    1. What type of file type is an Itunes music file?  Is it compressed?
If it is something you bought from the iTunes Store it is 256k AAC compressed.  If it is something you imported from another source such as a CD then the format will depend upon what settings you used.  Get information on a track in iTunes and see what "kind" the file is.
    2.  Will I lose sound quality if I convert an Itunes music file to MP3 in order to move it over to a Garmin GPS (which supports only MP3s) and therefore would it be best to follow their instructions to reimport my music using an MP3 encode?
Technically, yes, you will lose sound quality in any conversion to compressed with each conversion you  do (a photocopy of a photocopy...).  Whether or not you notice the quality difference is really an individual thing.  Technically if you have an audio CD you imported into AAC and now want it as mp3 then you will get better quality by re-importing from the CD as mp3.  I have in a few cases exported from other formats to mp3 and not noticed a quality difference, but then I don't have $200 speakers attached to my computer, nor the ears to appreciate them.
