Converting to PDF -- why is it different?

Hey there. I'm an editorial assistant and my boss and I have
been working on several books recently. What we can't understand is
why the pdf turns out differently sometimes than what's actually on
the page in the Microsoft Word document we're trying to convert.
Shouldn't Adobe simply reproduce what we've created in Word? What
are we doing wrong? What do we need to change? Whatever insight you
can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
The main question is what method you are using to convert to
pdf?
Are you using acrobat.com to do the conversion?
Or are you using the pdfmaker that ships with the regular
acrobat, or some other method?

  • All my pictures .jpeg have been converted to PDFs why?

All my pictures .jpeg have been converted to PDFs and when I click on them I get the following error message: Adobe Reader could not open because it is either not a supported file or because the file has been damaged (example, it was sent as an email attachment & wasn't coded correctly.)
I am trying to open them from the File Explorer /pictures/  and the 'Type' column reads Adobe Acrobat.   I have never changed any .jpegs into adobe.
When I open Reader and look at Pic File Folder nothing shows up. This seemed to have happened some time in the last couple of weeks.
I am using Win 8, all up to date , ASUS laptop, Chrome

Ok, I understand - I only noticed the iPhone reference.
Do your pictures still have the .jpg or .jpeg file extension, or do they actually have a .pdf file extension now?
If they are still .jpg/.jpeg, but automatically open with Adobe Reader or Acrobat, then it is simply a matter of the file association: your .jpg/.jpeg files need to be associated with your default imaging program, not Adobe Reader.
See these articles how to change the file association:

  • Subject: Document attached to record (Automtically convert to PDF)

    Dear All,
My requirement in record management is as follows:
I have a document attached to a record. (Tcode: SCASE)
The document needs to be converted into pdf and attached a different node in the record. All of this should be done by the system automatically (as a background step of the workflow). Do we have any configuration set in the record/document management to convert them?  Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    nsp.

    Hi,
Class CL_CRM_DOCUMENTS has different methods that you can use:
    CREATE_WITH_FILE
    CREATE_WITH_URL
    CREATE_WITH_TABLE
Depending on the source of the document you want to attach, you can call one of those methods to attach your document.
Embed this in a FM that you trigger out of your action, and you should be good to go

  • What kinds of graphics do you convert to PDF, and why?

I work on new ideas for Document Services. Many people convert graphics to PDF, and we'd like to know more. What kinds of graphics do you convert to PDF? And why? Are there features we could add to Create PDF that would be useful to you? Please let us know - it'll help us build better products.

To transfer video you will need a IEEE1394 (Firewire) cable.  The Sony name for this is an i.Link and is labeled as DV on the camcorder.  The end of the cable that connects to the camcorder must be a 4-pin connector.  The end that connects to the computer is either a 4-pin connector (usually a laptop) or a 6-pin (a desktop PC).  Of course all of this depends on whether or not your computer has a Firewire port. If you computer does have a firewire port you will need to know whether or not is a Firewire 400 or 800 port.  It's not hard to tell the difference by looking at your computer as the 400 and 800 cables have different connections on the end that you plug into the computer.

Relax, they weren't converted to PDF.
You can tell by right clicking ANY of them and choosing "Properties". You'll see there that they're STILL .xls or .xlsx files. The "association" has changed and Windows now indicates that they open with Reader, which isn't right.
Where it says "Open With" under the General tab, you can click "Change" and re-select Excel as the default app to open thim.

What product are you using? Are you using Adobe CreatePDF service that you can access at https://createpdf.acrobat.com? Can you please send me your PDF file at [email protected]? I'll give it a try. And you may also post your question on CreatePDF discussion forum at http://forums.adobe.com/community/createpdf?view=discussions.

  • I have payed for Adobe acrobat pro but now i can not convert a pdf document to a word format, why?

I have payed for Adobe acrobat pro for one year and it is valid to november 2015, but now i can not convert a pdf document to a word format, why ?

    Hi m_karhulinna,
If you have Acrobat Pro, you can save directly to Word format from within Acrobat by choosing File > Save as Other > Microsoft Word > Word Document.
(It sounds like you may be trying to use the ExportPDF online service, which is separate from Acrobat, and not necessary in your case.)

Why is the text garbled when I convert a pdf file to  microsoft word ?

    Hi amedah,
Could you please try converting any other PDF file with same fonts and then check.
It might also happen due to use of some poor fonts which result in garbled text.
    Is the PDF scanned?
    Let me know.
    Regards,
    Anubha
