im having a weird problem...when i convert a video to wmv using quicktime pro it only seems to convert like half of the video..kinda weird

You'll need to buy WMV studio from flip4mac to encode more than 30 seconds of video as a Wmv file...sorry......

Trying to convert to wmv using "share"

i'm trying to convert avi files in i movie to wmv using share.
I have limited success e.g have a 30 second clip which when converted using share comes out edited to 15 secs!
Anyone got any ideas?

I've got to ask. Why are you bothering to convert to WMV? What's wrong with Quicktime? If your target computer is a Windoze PC you can install Quicktime on it.
iMovie is not a file converting program and does not like AVI at the best of times. Convert your AVI containers to either DV or MOV first then import them to iMovie if you must. However, you may find you lose the audio when you convert the AVI files depending on how they were created. If so, you may need a more advanced converter like Visual Hub, but it's not free. It costs $25 (US). I have it and it rocks!

No need to convert unless you want to play it in iTunes. Play back with VLC media player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ - general media player that plays just about anything. If you absolutely must convert (and lose quality) use Handbrake.

Video Converter for wmv, avi, etc. on Mac Platform

Does anyone know of a good converter for Mac to put wmv and avi videos (and a few other formats) onto an iPod? I've tried the Prism software that is listed in the downloads section of the Apple, but the video quality is spotty and the audio is always out of sync by 10 seconds or so.
"Drag and drop" and "Add File to Library" doesn't work for a file that isn't mp4.
I saw a recommendation for something called WinFF in another forum, but it talks about Windows and Ubuntu, not OS X or Leopard.

MPEG Streamclip - it's freeware.
Note, though, that WMV files may require the paid Flip4Mac Player Pro plug-in for QuickTime to allow export to other file types.

How do I convert a wmv file format into an avi file format using quicktime 7 pro

I have just purchased quicktime 7 pro under the advice that it can convert wmv. file formats into avi. file formats, my firat attempt to do this using export failed after I could not open the wmv. file format. can anyone help with the process? I have looked through the instructions and nothing in there suggests another alternative

Convert photostory1.wmv to .mov

A friend still creates a 5 minute photo/music slideshow using photostory1 every month. She does not want to change to any other software. I have tried most every conversion method found in this community and from other places. I have not been able to convert .wmv file to .mov file to add to final cut pro movie. I would like use a free trial program to try and then maybe pay for full version. The new mac app 'Smart Converter' will not do the conversion. Among the ones recently tried and failed are VLC, ffmpgX and easywmv and others that I can not remember. I do not need to broadcast the final combined movie on iphone/ipod/ipad or any other mobile device. I am using SnowLeopard and will download Lion next week when available.

Where would I attach the video? It is only 9.4 MB and about 5 minutes long.
As previously stated, a 9.4 MB sample file can be be emailed as an attachment. (Check user profiles to find user email addresses if posted and available.) Otherwise, the sample clip is usually uploaded to an online server and the URL of its location is posted here. Right-clicking (Control-Click on a Mac) then allows interested readers to download the file directly to their computer.

Converting powerpoint / wmv files for import into iMovie

I have some students [on PC] who have created some slideshows in powerpoint. I am working on a G4 PowerBook, and use iMovie HD, but am having problems converting wmv and quicktimes [using flip4mac] and then importing them into FCP or iMovie.
Can anyone tell me the best settings to use to effect this process - I have tried mpeg4 basic and advanced as well as H264 but the end result is either really pixellated or won't import at all.

Getting an error message when I convert to .WMV

So I have my project all done, I got to convert to a WMV file, and then it pops up the error message of "Insonsistent Audio Sample Rate" "The media you are exporting contains audio with multiple sample rates."
Now when I check the sample rates on everything they are all at 48. So I'm not sure what the problem is.
Even weirder is, that I am able to convert to a WMV on another project using the same footage, just a different section of it. But it was all shot at the same time.
Any ideas?

We have confirmed that when encoding WMV files with uncompressed audio sources after installing QT 7.2, you will receive "Inconsistent Audio Sample Rate" error and the encode will fail. This affects Flip4Mac WMV Studio, Studio Pro, Studio Pro HD versions. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
You might want to try the following steps as a temporary workaround:
1. Open up the clip in QT Pro, iMovie or Final Cut Pro
2. Export to Mpeg-4
3. Click Options
4. On the file format pull down select MP4
5. On the video format pull down select Pass through if possible. Otherwise, select H264.
6. Then go to the audio tab, and change the output sample to 44.100
7. Then save the file
This will make an MP4 file which will not recompress the video format more than once with the audio sample rate changed to 44.100 which will allow the file to be exported to WMV.

and when it does work, it takes way to long to complete the 2step process.
Is there a solution to my problem?

iMovie usually can not use .wmv files.
.wmv - is no Video-Codec - but a container and can hold a variety of codecs - most of them in need to be converted to a Codec iMovie can use.
If it opens in QuickTime-player, then open Inspector [cmd+I] and read
- Video formatted as (Codec) : nnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
- Frames per second : yyyyyyy

Converting an .wmv file

Don't know if this is actually where I should post this but...
I'm editing some footage from a friend of their wedding, and putting it on dvd. Someone made them a short video to a song and burned it on a cd-rom in .wmv format - it auto-opens in windows media player.
Don't really even want to work with this file. Just want to be able to dump it into iDVD as one of the options to play "as is", but apparently have to convert it over to QT format in order to do that.
Any recommendations/suggestions on how to accomplish this would be appreciated.
For future reference, if someone knows how to pull .wmv files into FCE in order to edit, would like that info as well.

Do you mean Amazon Instant Videos? They are DRM protected and cannot be transferred or played on other computer or portable devices without authorization. Don’t worry, try this DRM removal too – Pavtube ChewTune, I used it for converting my iTunes DRM movies for quite a long time, and it worked like a charm.

Converting to WMV

Hi everyone, looking for some assistance in converting an m4v file to WMV
I was just given a new duty at work, I have the task of recording different staff meetings and staff training sessions and I need to make them available to our staff via streaming video. Once I import the video to my Macbook and perform the necessary editing I am left with a M4V version of the file. The team that runs our organizations media server prefers WMV formated files and I am struggling to find a good quality program to make those conversions.
I have googled the issue and get a number of hits but I dont recognise any of the manufacturers and dont want to download junk programs that are going to be more trouble than they are worth.
I also dont need the program to be free, if anyone has any suggestions on a good quality conversion program, I would greatly appreciate it.
