Converting to Word

My downloaded pdf document to Word is so out of format I cannot use it. It appears to be scrambled.

Ingrid,
I'm no expert at FM-to-Word conversions, but I can tell you that
trouble-free round-tripping is impossible. You *will* lose
features and even content in both directions of conversion.
I'm not sure how your group is organized, but it seems like an
odd decision to have you use FM while the other writers (?)
will use Word. If this is a group of writers/publishers, you
need to use the same tools. However, if you're responsible for
the publishing part, and the other people using Word are really
developers or other SMEs (Subject Matter Experts), then it's
workable for you to use FM and the others using Word. However,
if the others really are considered writers or have as their
task to edit (author) source documents, then it won't work.
You have to convince them and your boss that you're responsible
for editing the manuals, and the others are reposnsible for
providing input and comments, i.e. work as reviewers rather
than writers. A reviewer should either use Acrobat Reader with
commenting-enabled PDFs, or possibly Word files. In either case,
it's your job to take their comments (PDF) or edits (Word) and
incorporate them into the source documents (FM). This has to
be done more or less manually, no round-tripping will work.
> My boss has asked that we have the manual in both versions
> simultaneously. Am I using the wrong tool?
No, you're using the wrong boss ;-)
Seriously, there's no practical reasons for having the manual
in more than one format. If you cannot convince your boss of
this, then you may have to give up FM...
> Should I have simply stuck with Word.
Hard to say. Perhaps your manuals can be authored and maintained
using Word without trouble. Most writers will find that FM handles
a lot of things better than Word, though...

I am converting fillable word documents (set up as tables with protection activated) into fillable pdf forms using LiveCycle but am having problems once I try to open them in Adobe Reader 9.2. I am unable to save the pdf as dynamic (the only option is static). They are no longer fillable and show "You are viewing this document in PDF/A mode".  Any advise...what am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
    I have the same problem.
    I check my settings and I don't ask a PDF/A files. It's a PDF standard.

  • How can I convert a Word document to an ePub document?

I would like to convert a Word document of a book I've written to an ePub version that my son can load it into his iPad to read.  Anyone know if there's a way to do that on my Mac mini computer, or if there is a program I can download that will do it?

    Try

  • Is it possible for automator to convert all word documents in my dropbox folder to apple's "pages" on iCloud and keep the same folder organization?

Is it possible for automator to convert all word documents in my dropbox folder to apple's "pages" on iCloud and keep the same folder organization?  I am a teacher and want to switch from using microsoft office on my macbook pro to using pages/number/keynote.  I am hoping to get an iPad next year and go "paperless" with lesson plans and gradebooks and I heard that pages/numbers/keynote are great on the ipad.  I'd like to write an automator script (workflow?) to convert all my documents in dropbox to pages and have them stored on iCloud, then be able to access the files on my macbook pro and ipad.  Thanks!

Create an AppleID under different email addresses for each family member at http://appleid.apple.com
If they don't already have their own email address just setup a free one with Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail or whoever you prefer.
Then on each device sign into iMessage with the users own AppleID in:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Tap AppleID at top > Sign Out, then sign back in again with the correct AppleID.

  • How do I convert a word document into a pdf and then upload it to a web site

How do I convert a word document into a pdf and then upload it to a web site so people can read it from my
site with Dreamweaver 4?. How can I do this? Can anyone please help? I'm only a newbie. Thanking you in anticipation.

First you need to install a means of printing to pdf from word.  I like cutepdf writer ( http://cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp ).  Once installed you will print the doc in word and under the printer selection you choose pdf.
Once you have the file you put it in your local site folders and upload it using Dreamweaver.  Be sure to link to it from a page so users can get to it and I would recommend giving the link a target of _black so it will open in a new window (see the properties inspector in DW).

  • Trying to convert to word. Half the text is missing and all the pictures. Please help ASAP

Need help converting to word. Not showing text or images

I'm sorry that didn't work. Are you experiencing the same issue no matter what file you try to convert to Word? Or is the problem specific to one file? Knowing the following can help us get to the bottom of the issue:
What kind of content is in the PDF: text, scanned text, images, tables, signatures (can be a problem), smudges, etc.?
How was the PDF created and in what program: Acrobat, MS Word, LiveCycle, scanner utility, or some other application? Some applications are not as fussy about following PDF conventions. (If you don't know, you can open the file in Reader and choose File > Properties.  Look for PDF Producer, Application, and PDF Version).
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,
    Sara

Easiest way if you have Word installed: from Word's File menu, do "Save as..." and you will find a pdf option in the "Format" pull-down:
The example is from Office:Mac 2008; should be similar in Office 2011.

  • Converted MS Word 2007 to Adobe Acrobat 9 random "Bad Parameter" Error

Question: I Converted MS Word 2007 file which contained 892 pages into Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard afterwards and while needing to update only certain pages I receive the "Bad Parameter" Error. My process is using drop down Document/Extract pages(make my updates)/Replace pages into complete PDF file/ usually with no problem then towards the last pages of the PDF the Error showed up! I believe that it’s possible, the conversion initially may have allowed many tags to be written correctly but some are corrupted. It could be a buffer-overflow failsafe that is having an adverse effect against the two programs because of the file’s size? I have seen some good advice come from many people on this site like "Bill@VT" and "CtDave" and others so I am humbly requesting assistance? Some additional background information is I have to keep the file size the same and I cannot print to PDF file from Word due to a specific format I must keep and most of the PDF is not corrupt: meaning receiving the "Error". I would like to know if the error that seems to be due to the conversion process can be corrected. I have provided some additional similar post below from other customers that may be useful as reference material?  R/ Thanks in advance!
“Like 10 others, I get a "bad parameter" pop-up window when I try to delete 1 or more pages from a PDF created from Adobe 8 Pro from Microsoft Word 2007.  Of the 3 computers we have tried to delete the pages, we are running Windows XP and Office 2007 on all.  But 1 computer has Adobe 7 Pro, one has Adobe 8 Pro, and the 3rd has Adobe 9 Pro.  None are able to delete or extract the pages -- we get the bad parameter error each time we try. The PDF has 260 pages and occupies 5.7 MB memory.  What additional information can I provide to get a resolution to this problem?  Thanks!” “Civilengr10” (posted Aug 17, 2010)
“I am taking adobe files from a database, saving them, and then making changes to them by inserting (from other adobe files from the same database) or deleting pages.  Very basic stuff! However, sometimes when I want to insert pages, it will insert them but then say "bad parameter".  After that point, I cannot delete any pages.  It will give me the "bad parameter" error again and not delete. I have reduced the file size, ran "Examine Document" and removed whatever it wanted me to, and whenever I save a file, I do Save As...instead of Save! Also, under preferences > security I have the "Verify signatures when the document is opened" unchecked. None of these recommendations that I have read elsewhere work.  Can someone offer me some guidance? I am working on the files locally.  I save the files from the database unto my own folder on the computer. The thing is, some of the files I download from the database are fine and do not give me any error, but others do.  Do you know how I can fix the files that are corrupted from the database?” “hoda64” (posted July 22, 2009)
“Problem converting Word 2007 DOC to PDF 9
I have a Word 2007 DOC (not docx) file with pictures and text which converted perfectly with Distiller 8. I installed CS4 Distiller 9, and now the same DOC file flows over onto several extra pages. I am using the default settings. Any idea what has changed? Thanks in advance.  “Petrula” (posted Nov 29, 2002) “First, select the Adobe PDF printer in WORD. Then go through the document to check for the flow of the document. It should print the same as you see in the document after the printer has been selected.”

For the replace and delete pages, I can only guess that you are messing up some of the bookmarks or links in the page from what I think you have based on the description. I would work on copies between each stage so that you can at least go back to the last success stage. If possible, you are better to go back and do the modifications in the original page and the recreate the PDF. If that is not possible, then maybe a better explanation of how you are creating the PDF would help folks understand your process fully and suggest a solution.
On the latter, I would do a repair on Acrobat. However, it may be in the process you are using in the conversion from WORD. How are you creating the PDF from WORD? Have you updated AA9 and not simply have 9.0? The confusing point is that you talk about Distiller for getting the PDF from WORD. Distiller is often involved, but only behind the scenes and normally you either print to the Adobe PDF printer, use PDF Maker, or use the MS plugin for PDF creation. So when stating Distiller, it is unclear what process you are using since none of the methods I mention state the use of Distiller even if it is used in the background.

Yes this sounds interesting. Can I update to that from the PDF Export I have just renewed? How much would that cost?
    Thanks for your quick answer.

  • Can't create hyperlinks after converting a Word document with Acrobat XI Pro

    Hello,
    Here's my problem.
I'm making a catalog document for my company.
The document that I'm converting to PDF is made on Office Word 2013 and it's a .docx format file.
I'm on Windows 8 and the latest version of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro installed.
Inside my word document I have some pictures that have a hyperlink. Those hyperlinks directionate to a bookmark inside the word document. Inside the word document, if I do Ctrl+Click over the image, it will go to the page that has that bookmark. And it works. Period.
Beside that I also have some Cross-references on the word document. Those cross-references basically are the page number from the bookmark reference. By accident on most of those cross-refrences I left enabled the "Insert as hyperlink" on the cross-reference box options. When I Ctrl+Click over those cross-references I also go into the page of that cross-reference.
After I convert the word document into pdf, I can't get any hyperlink on the pictures, if I simply click on them, like if I click on a hyperlink on a webpage or something similar, the pdf won't go the the bookmark on the page that I've set on the word document.
The funny thing is that if I click on the other cross-references I can go to the page were that cross-reference is...
I tried all the methods to convert the file in order to obtain hyperlinks on the images...
I tried to use the Acrobat tab and the File -> Save as Adobe PDF, as both uses Acrobat PDFMaker, but nothing works.
Even tried all options on Acrobat PDFMaker but can't get it. "Create bookmarks", "Add links", "Convert Word Bookmarks", "...Word Styles to Bookmarks", "...Word Headings to Bookmarks", none works....
If I try to simply print from inside Word by choosing the Adobe PDF printer (like if I choose a regular printer), in the printers options it doesn't show up any hyperlink/link/bookmark option related, so that way is definitely a no go...
To reference, on 2006/2007 I also worked on a similar project and used this method on the word document (on Word 2003). At that time I had another Adobe Acrobat version, can't remember what version was...
This hyperlink situation was without any problem. After conversion, on the pdf file, if I click on a image it went to the right place inside that pdf file...
So I'm simply lost wether it's a problem of me, a problem of Word, a problem from Acrobat... simply lost...
    I'm desperated....please, someone help me!!!

Ok, sorry for never talk since the last time, but I finally discovered why I had this problem.
I found out that M$ decided somehow to change the process of embedded hyperlinks on a image, but in a docx it doesn't get affected. Only after transforming it into a pdf by Acrobat that the problem emerges...
    I found this site http://www.pb-solv.net/2013/08/embed-pictures-in-microsoft-word.html
Basically all I have to do is "Use Insert, Quick Parts, Field, IncludePicture. This inserts the picture in the old way as a field. You can use Alt-F9 to reveal the field codes and change the images to be embedded rather than linked."
Then, after converting it with acrobat, the pdf finally have hyperlinks on the images!!!
They change this on Word 2007. As I had the 2003, at the time, I didn't had this problem.
As I said, M$ changed something, but only is affected after converting with acrobat. So, acrobat also missed something in the process. I call it a 50/50 guilt.
To bad no one ever notice this problem...

  • How to maintain original lines when converting a word file in a PDF

Unfortunately the table lines often change when converting a word file in a PDF, e.g. dotted/broken lines into straight lines or different kinds of broken lines. How can I maintain the original lines when converting the documents?
Many thanks in advance for your advice.
    Li Li

    Hello,
    Ok, this is the background.
I’m a publisher. Any document to end user will go as pdf. And off course it preserves the word appearance. We ship our manuals only in pdf.  At this point my end users have to copy the “CODES” into his editor to run the product.  So when doing it, the “Codes” copied from pdf to his editor loses its format.  Editor need not be the actual one; you can also test in a notepad.
P.S: You can find the difference by copying the code from word to notepad and pdf to notepad
Hope you now understood the purpose what I’m looking at for.

Still does not work. I'm running Windows 7 Home version and Microsoft Office XP 2002. This is a brabd new Acrobat program right out of the box. Suggestions Please.

In WORD 2002, I believe you can only print to the Adobe PDF printer. I think that WORD 2003 is the first compatible with AA X. Check out http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/333/333504.html.
