Converting Ur iPod into A Drive?

I have a 2GB iPod nano and I have iTunes on a desktop and not on a laptop and I want to transfer Word files or a downloaded program to the laptop and would make a transfer from desktop to my laptop. This would make a iPod favourable solution but is it sound since I have this disc option enabled and since I have a weak 215mb drive useless. So can someone walk me through the transfer process without needing to install iTunes on my laptop.

If you have disk use enabled you should just be able to see it as a disk in My Computer. Another option is to use disk mode, which is different. Enter this by resetting (hold menu + center), then as soon as the Apple logo comes up press center + play/pause. This basically takes all iPod functions away and basically makes the iPod a flash drive. It will be seen as a hard drive only on any computer. To get out of this mode reset the iPod.

  • Converting old iPhone into iPod

    Hey everyone,
My father recently cancelled his iPhone 3G contract and went back to a regular phone, and he converted his 3G into an iPod touch. At the same time, he got a deactivated SIM card for his old Original iPhone; however, when we plug in the original iPhone into iTunes, its asking us to set up the phone as a new AT&T phone again.
My question is, if we go ahead and set it up with his wireless number, will it charge us $30 for the data plan again even though its technically a deactivated SIM and all we are doing is activating it so the phone stops bugging us to connect to iTunes?
    Once again to clarify:
iPhone 2G + Deactivated SIM asks for setup as new phone on AT&T (but we don't want to set it up as a new phone)

You obviously don't understand what I provided.
Why are you inserting a SIM card in the first place if you want to use the iPhone as an iPod Touch? Not using the iPhone since it was deactivated 2 years ago or regardless when it was deactivated doesn't require inserting a SIM card in order to sync the iPhone with iTunes or use the iPhone as an iPod Touch.
If you are trying to install a firmware update or restore the iPhone with iTunes (which installs the current firmware) without activating the iPhone, you need to insert the no longer activated SIM card that was used with the iPhone when it was activated in order to complete the process. There is no way around this. If you activate the iPhone, it is no different from activating any other iPhone.

  • HT1329 My hard drive died.  Can I plug my ipod into the new computer and transfer my files or will they be wiped out?

My computer hard drive fried on Friday.  They are not able to retrieve the data.   Have i lost everything that was not a download?
Can i plug in my iPod into the new computer (once I install iTunes and authorize the computer) and move my files to the new system from the iPod, or will my iPod be wiped out?
I believe I need to set up manual update, rather than automatic to prevent this, but other than that, I am a bit lost.
    Thank you.

I just had my hard drive crash, and i have reloaded my operating system, and all my programs. How can i load everything off of my ipod into my newly loaded itunes.

If you know you are going to be wiping the drive before hand, then I would say definitely try to make a backup of your iTunes folder now just in case. But to answer your specific question about iPod to computer transfer...

  • TS1363 When I plug my ipod into the usb port of my desktop, It will not recognize that anything is plugged into it.  However it does recognize my flash drives, so trying to resolve my problem.  Please help...

When I plug my ipod into my desk top my computer will not recognize the ipod in the usb port.  I checked my usb port with one of my flash drives and it works fine.  My ipod is in stuck in recovery mode, so has to be gone thru on itunes.  Please help me

Yes, I think so...  But what's odd here (to me) is that it actually matters what song the iPod was playing before being connected to that USB port.  What happens if you connect the iPod when it is not playing any song?  It seem like either the car audio system knows where to look for the iPod's song files, or it doesn't.
If you have a USB flash drive, try putting a few song files on it, and connecting it to that USB port.  That's probably the primary reason for that USB port, so customer can attach USB flash drives with song files.  If that works, and you can properly browse and play songs from the USB flash drive, you should just get a $5 8GB USB flash drive, fill it with your "car songs," and leaving it connected to the car audio system.  That would be more convenient that remembering to connect and disconnect your nano all the time, and less wear-and-tear on the nano.

  • Used ipod as a drive to copy songs into new itunes on new computer. Some songs do play in entirety, las minute cuts off with nothing plyaing, or it suddenly starts playing a different song. "TIme" shown is correct in the file.

Used ipod as a drive to copy songs into new itunes on new computer. Some songs do play in entirety, last 30 seconds to minute cuts off with nothing plyaing, or it suddenly starts playing a different song. "TIme" shown is correct in the file. Any way to fix this?

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places.  I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file.  There must be something else that's missing.  My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive.  If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess.  I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={  Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period.  I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive.  Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me).  As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

  • How do I convert my old iPod into a voice recorder?

PART No. MA003FB/A iPod 60GB White Model A1136 Serial No. 4J547DUSSZA purchased in June 2007
iPod (5th generation)—also known as iPod with video or Fifth Generation iPod 2005/2010 click wheel.
(It is not a nano, shuffle or touch, it may be a classic or just an older iPod)
How do I turn this iPod into a voice recorder?  What do I need to buy and will I need to update the iPod software.

    Hi Patdean,
Yes, you can use your 5th Gen as a voice recorder. I used to do this with mine. You have to get an external microphone for it, and it has to be one that connects through the connector port, not through the headphone jack. Later generation ipods will take a mic in the headphone port, but not this one. There are several companies that make them, mine was a Belkin Tune Talk, and it worked really well. No additional software needed. To make a recording, use the wheel to go to "Extras", and plug in the mic. The voice memo recorder won't show up on your ipod until you plug in the microphone, and once it does, hit the record button, and you're good to go. Check on Amazon or someplace similar, I think these are still being made, but be sure to check compatability with your ipod, as not all dock connector microphones are compatible. Hope this helps!

  • How do I convert my iPod Nano from Windows to Mini Mac?

I got an iPod Nano a few months ago. I have been doing pretty well with it... My husband just bought me a mini Mac and I want to convert it to be used on the mini Mac instead of my laptop. I have my music on a USB hard drive, so I know how to import. The problem I have is with my iPod. How do I restore a Windows based Nano to now work with Mac? My husband said he tried to restore on the Mac (the five Rs things), but I am not sure what he did. Where do I start, what do I do? As you can guess, I am not particularly good at Mac yet?
P.S. Is there a good reference for Tiger? I am still trying to learn that as well.

Typically, wehn you plug your PC formatted iPod into your awesome new mac, it should say something like, yo this needs to be formatted for a mac, and you agree with it, and it'll reformat your iPod for your mac.
This isn't true at all. The Mac will be content with using a Windows-formatted iPod and will never ask you to reformat it for Mac.
You'd have to reformat it on your own using the iPod Updater Utility on the Mac.
Just launch the iPod Updater Utility on the Mac, and Restore your iPod.
If you only plan on using your iPod with your Mac, then it is a good idea to Restore it on the Mac. Formatting it for Mac will allow it to perform faster on your Mac Mini. It'll mount faster, and transfer data faster. You'll also be able to use your Mac to do firmware updates to your iPod if it is Mac-formatted.
    A Mac can't do a firmware update to a Windows-formatted iPod.

  • An app that will convert VOB files into individual episodes?

    Hello,
So I have a DVD that I converted a bunch of TV shows onto using Visual Hub. The problem is I get 18 hours but it converts into VOB files.
Is there an application that will convert VOB files into MP4 format but make them into individual episodes?

    AndreTheGeek,
Thanks, I did try it but maybe I'm doing it wrong. Think what I want is impossible. I want to take a VOB file that has like 5 shows on it and want the output of that to be 5 individual mp4's so I can pick and choose what I want to go on my ipod.
I think you must have done it wrong.
For a start. forget about VOB files - there's no need to mess around with them if you use Handbrake. Simply put your DVD in the DVD drive of your Mac and tell Handbrake to use that DVD as the source - it will help you with the rest of the procedure.
You will find that Handbrake interprets the information on the DVD as individual episodes (top of the page, choose the "title" drop-down menu), giving you the running time of each one. Just choose a particular episode, give it an output file name and add it to the queue. Then select the next episode and give that a different file name. When you've finished, simply run the queue and it will convert them all into the individual files you've specified.
If you find an episode that appears to be longer than all the rest, this is usually the one that contains all the episodes for the 'play all episodes' feature on your DVD. Leave that one out of the queue.
It's not always obvious which episode is which (as they aren't always stored in the correct order on the DVD) so you can just give each file an arbitrary name for now, then watch the resulting mp4 files and name them appropriately at that stage.
There is also a guide to ripping TV Shows for your iPod on the Handbrake website (with pictures) if you find my description confusing.

  • Please help - how do I import music from my ipod into a new itunes library?

    Hello
I would very much appreciate it if someone could tell me how to get the music from my old ipod mini into the new itunes library on my new laptop.
The mini was previously sync'd with my old PC which died so my files are only present on the ipod. Upon loading itunes, the software is only letting my sync the ipod providing I wipe it (obviously not desirable...)
    Thanks for any support, Andy

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" as you already know will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How to setup word docs, converted to PDF on local drive with links to a second file at a page

how to setup word docs, converted to PDF on local drive with links to a second file at a page
Need to setup a set of word documents, converted to PDF that has links from one file to a second file at a given page.
I would like to setup a set of pdf documents, on the hard disk of a PC or Mac, that can be open with acrobat pro running on the same computer and have the link jump to, and open in a new window, in acrobat pro, to a given page of a second document in the set.
Is there a way to setup a link in word and the conversion to pdf that will result in a link that is equivalent to the acrobat link type  you get when you add a link of the type Go to a page in another document?
    Tools-Advanced Editing-Link tool, make a box
Check: Go to page view, Next (Create go to view dialog opens)
Open second document and go to page
Click “Create go to view dialog” to set up link
Result is a link, when view by link properties, with an action of
Go to a page in another document
    File: C:\My Documents\second file.pdf
    Page: 43
    Zoom level: Custom
I got close but did not solve the problem:
I have a version that uses links to a website, using #page=43 at the end of the hyperlink.
That works but will only open to the page if is through the web browser, opening the acrobat reader plugin.
I need to open from a folder on the local harddisk (with relative links), in acrobat pro to the given page of the pdf, on a PC or a Mac.
I could bookmark each page “pagenumberxxx” and jump to the bookmark/page if that would get around some problem
Current Systems in use to create documents with links and view them:
    Windows XP SP3
    Word 2003 SP3
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.4.4
    Or just to view them:
Mac OS 10 Lion version 10.7.4
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.5.1
(note I have limited understanding of Mac’s)
    John

No.  There seems to be no automated way to do it.  You can of course go into the PDF and manually add links after you have converted to PDF, but that is what we want to avoid having to do.  We want it to be automatic from the Word doc.

  • Apple iPod USB Device driver issue on Win XP - syncing shuffle 2nd gen.

Hello fellow iPod shuffle users. Any of you run into this problem using the following configurations? Any advise/recommendations/workarounds much appreciated as I've burned 3 days on this issue and I'm still stonewalled.
I personally think it's a device driver issue/bug and am searching for a way to update my Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Two brand new ipod shuffles (received for Christmas 2008) are both behaving this way, so the problem most likely points to a global software issue more-so than to shuffle hardware issue.
PROBLEM STATEMENT: Driver data i/o streaming issue does not allow shuffle to sync data with iTunes after initial sync (i.e. reading the content of the shuffle is good, but writing modified content fails). Posted error message "The ipod ... cannot be synced. Required disk cannot be found". After cracking the hood on my device driver, the problem seems to point to the Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Driver will recognize the shuffle and read to it, but subsequent write attempts will result in device driver balks that "this device cannot start (code 10)".
    ATTEMPTED WORKAROUNDS:
*Read All "How to Get Started Manuals" to make sure I was using the right technique for syncing my two shuffles from within iTunes... tried and failed
*Ensure only one shuffle was plugged in at a time (saw notice that two shuffles plugged in at the same time is not yet a supported config)... tried and failed
*The 5 R's as recommended by Apple Support... tried and failed.
*I've tried all 3 built in USB ports on my Lenovo T60. no love... tried and failed.
*Per discussion board: From Window's Device Manager-> Scaned for new hardware while shuffle was syncing...tried and failed.
    * Per Discussion board: From Window's Disk Management -> Ensured shuffle came up as a FAT32 filesystem... connection tore down as quickly as windows recognized it.... tried and failed.
*From Windows Software config utility: Ran repair to re-install itunes 8... same results.
*From Windows software management utility: Uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 8... same results.
Hardware: IBM Thinkpad/Lenovo T60. Using build in k/b & no external mouse. Has 3 USB built in ports.
Software: Windows XP Pro SP2/iTunes 8.0.2/shuffle (2nd gen) driver 1.0.4 (same behavior using the original driver 1.0.3).
    Apple iPod USB Device properties:
    Driver Provider - Microsoft
    Driver Date - 7/1/2001
    Driver Version - 5.1.2535.0
Digital Signer - Microsoft Windows Publisher

Hi. Ive got pretty much the same problem.... Got a new shuffle for christmas..having real problems syncing with itunes. Funnily enough I managed to get 25 tracks on it but then it just stopped. error message says " The ipod shuffle cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found." Ive done restore, and downloaded a reset utility thingy to try but still no joy.

  • Can't get songs from my iPod into the library on my new mac

I recently had to get a new hard-drive on my dell laptop, and iTunes was uninstalled from the computer. When I re-installed iTunes, my iPod was not being recognized by the laptop, so none of my songs on my iPod were in the library anymore.
