Converting Video Format

I'm a beginner when it comes to video production. I have the Adobe Master Collection CS4. I have some short videos in MPG4 format that I need to change to MPG2 becuase of compatibility problems.
How can I easily convert the videos without alot of manipulation?
I've tried using Premiere but when import the asset and place on the timeline, I get some extra padding, similar to letter boxing, on the sides of the video output.
Is there a way to just take a video and save as another format directly?
I hope that is clear. Again, I am a beginner and may have some of the jargon wrong.
Thanks, Kevin

Probably the easiest way to convert the various Apple formats to something else is with QuickTime Pro. The "Pro" aspect is about US$30 and is delivered to you as a "key," that you just enter into QT Player to convert it to the"Pro" version. As QT Player ingests almost all things Apple, you can either Save (keeps it in .MOV format, but actually allows light editing), or Export. Depending on the properly installed CODEC's on your system, you'll have a lot of choices.
I do question why you want to convert to MPEG-2 format though. PrPro plays best with DV-AVI Type II files with PCM/WAV 48Khz 16-bit Audio. Were I converting, that would be what I would convert to. Many other formats can cause big problems.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Convert video format to flv

Anyone know how, or can point me in the direction as to how
youTube convert video formats to flv on their servers? thanks to
    any responders.

I don't know exactly what youtube or google uses for their
transcoding systems but there are a few products that can do
    exactly the same:
    Rhozet
    Flix Engine
    FlipFactory
    FFMPEG
FFMPEg is open source and you can download it for free,
during the other ones need a commercial license.

  • What program to install and convert video formats...?

I am trying to find a program that will install on 10.3.9 and that can convert video formats (ie mpg and mp4 to wmv). Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated. I did buy a newer Mac (PowerBook G4 with Leopard) but for now need to use my old Mac. I need to convert to WMV to use on my GoGear mp3 player, which is NOT Mac compatible, only Windows. How I miss my iPod Thanks again for any help.

Well ffmpeg should be included by default. It is the core of the VH engine, but it may have been updated since your version of VH. And you may not need it depending on the conversion you are trying to make. Which version of VH is it ?
So you are trying to convert the mpeg and mp4 files into wmv. Do you select the 320 pixels wide option ? Are the source movies 320 pixels wide ? or larger ?
What settings do you use in VH ? ie. Which tab do you select for converting to ? and what options do you select within it ?
Do you change the destination directory ?
If you open the mkv files in QuickTime, it may complain about missing codecs, click Cancel and it'll leave you with a blank window. Select "Show Movie Properties" under the Window menu, what is under "Format" for the Video Track ? Is there also an Audio Track ?
QuickTime shouln't complain about the movie, mpeg and mp4 should open and play just fine. If it does complain it's almost certain that the files are not the format they claim to be - the Show Movie Properties will sort this out.

  • Opening .exe files/Converting video format

Is there a way to open .exe files on my MacBookPro? (There is no virtually pc emulator for the MbookP, yet). Also, what I am trying to do is convert music video files that I downloaded to .mp4 file format so I can watch them on my iPod....Unfortunately I have no clue what I am doing, and I don't know of any freeware. If you know how to do this-Post!

You can open .exe files on intel mac by booting into windows XP but that would involve using bootcamp
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/
    or virtualisation
    http://www.parallels.com/en/products/workstation/mac/4
If music videos play in your browser you can capture them using snapzpro

  • Convert video format using ffmpegX

I tired to convert some files from mpeg to a format which ipod video would support. I tried mpeg4, mov format, but none of them work. I set the video size to 320 x 240, framerate NTSC 29.97 and i encoded the audio to ACC(MOV,MP4). When I tried to transfer the video to my ipod, it says format not supported. Did I do something wrong? What are the settings I need for the right conversion? What should I do? Thank you very much.

If you are starting with a muxed MPEG1 file, then as I understand it, you need to use FfmpegX in conjunction with another application (like StreamClip) to first convert your media to an intermediate file format (AVI) before using QTime Pro to convert the intermediate file to iPod compatible .m4v format.
Alternate solution would be to use Export2QT standalone application (or the Export2QT module included in MPEG2 Works 4 Advanced) to perform source to intermediate to final file automatically. Again, QTime Pro must be installed (with MPEG2 plug in if you plan to convert MPEG2 video) on your computer.

  • Converting Video Formats

I try to convert a mpg video to mp4 but it just converts the image but without sound. What can I do?

Quicktime can't convert mpeg 1 and 2 videos.
Try Mpeg-Streamclip...it's free. There an help page. And read the specs to make sure you have the component needed to convert the videos.

  • Need help converting video format

Ok, so I finally purchased dvd+r's for my mac and I want to start making dvds with iDVD5. What I really want to do is start making dvds for lost season 2. I have purchased all the available episodes with itunes and they are in mv4 format. I allready made a killer main menu screen and now I want to add the episodes to my project. I'm having lots of trouble doing this tho. I presume this is because the videos are in the wrong format, but this is also the first time I have ever used idvd so I may be missing something simple. If anyone has any ideas, tips or hints they will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to whoever helps me.

how do you convert the vido format to make it compatable with ipod using quicktime?

Once you convert it to avi, you'll need IMAQ AVI Read Frame from Vision Acquisition Software, http://search.ni.com/nisearch/app/main/p/ap/tech/lang/en/pg/1/sn/ssnav:sup,catnav:du,n8:13.79.7820, to read each frame.
Then, use match pattern function in Vision Development Module, http://search.ni.com/nisearch/app/main/p/bot/no/ap/tech/lang/en/pg/1/ps/10/sn/catnav:du,ssnav:sup/q/..., to detect your object, and its position.

  • Any api/tools to convert other video format to 3GPP format?

i want to convert video format other than 3GPP format to 3GPP format(many j2me mobile support this format). is there any java api on this?

  • Looking for help with converting a ppsx file to a video format such as .mov or mp4

Hi All,  I am looking for conversion software that will allow me to convert a ppsx file to a video file on OS10.5.8.

Hi Klaus1, Thanks for your response.  I can open and view the file without difficulty.  My issue is getting into a video format that I can upload to a Website for client viewing.  All the conersion products I can find are for a newer OS then 10.5.8.  I am working on a deadline of midnight tonight-and cannot upgrade that quickly.  So What I need is a conversion program that will still run on my OS

  • I finished making an animated .gif image in FireWorks. My question is, how do I convert it into video so that when I edit video, that every video editing program recognizes it? Long story short, How do I convert animated .gif files into video formats?

I worked in Adobe FireWorks to make the animated .gif. What program do I use to convert the file from .gif to any video format: .mp4, .m4v, .avi, .wmv, etc. I want to convert it into video format, so that QuickTime Player plays the video, I can insert it into iMovie '11 and edit, and also insert it into Final Cut Pro X and edit video.

Thanks for getting back with me so promptly.  It has taken me this time to connect with the proper people to find out the information you requested.
The camera used to film the class was a Panasonic AG-HMC40P, owned by a local cable TV station; they use Kodak video encoding software, and a SD card was used to store the video.   The file extension is .mts, and the mime file is MPEG 2 transport.  He said I probably need an AVCHD converter, and the Mac app store lists 8 of those options, 4 free and 4 for up to $9.99.  He said I'll also need a converter for later plans of posting on YouTube or on the website, and while some of those in the app store might work for the later needs, he knows one app called "Compressor" that would work for the uploading later.  He also suggested I could try renaming the .mts file to .MP2T, but he wasn't sure that would work.
They don't work with Macs at the studio, but I had thought I could have some lessons there in editing, and apply what I learned to my iMac and iMovie.
First, though, I have to be able to see it and review it!
    Thanks again!

  • Video Format Total Solution: How to Convert and Edit Video on Windows/Mac

More and More video formats are coming out with different video encoders and it makes our spare time more and more colorful. However, it is not to say that there is no problems. Actually, different video formats make it difficult to share video with others, even your own camcorder and iPod. Is there an easy way to convert videos effectively. Yes, there is.
In this article, I will show you guys how to convert videos on windows and mac.
Part 1. How to Convert and Edit Videos on Windows
For Windows users, you need a Video Converter(http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-video-converter.html) to do that for you.
Here I use Aiseesoft Total Video Converter(http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-video-converter.html)
Step 1: Download and install Aiseesoft Total Video Converter
After you download it to your computer, double click it and it is really easy to install.
You just need to click “next” and it will complete it in seconds. It will automatically run after installation.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/total-video-converter/screen.jpg
    Step 2: Load Video
Click “Add File” to find the video that you want to convert and click “open”. It will be loaded automatically.
Step 3: Select the target to decode
In the “Profile” drop download list you can find your target according the usage of your output video, such as if you want to put the video on your iPod touch, you can select the “iPod” in the first list and “iPod touch 2 MPEG-4 640*480(*.mp4)” in the second list.
    Step 4: Set Advanced Parameters
After you select the right output profile, you can click “setting” button to set your advanced parameters. You can adjust video and audio settings separately. In video section, you can change “video encoder”, “resolution”, “frame rate”, “video bitrate”In audio section, you can change “audio encoder”, “sample rate”, “channel”, “audio bitrate”If you want to save this profile and settings and use it next time you can click “save as” button to give a name to it. And the next time you want to use it you can find it in the profile list named “user defined”.
    Step 5: Choose a Destination
To browse and find a output folder for your output files or just the default one.
Finally, Click “Convert” button to begin your conversion, here in the converting
interface you can choose “shut down the computer when conversion complete” or “open output folder when conversion complete” or you just do not choose neither one.
Tips: How to Edit the Output Video
This video converter is also a video editor, you can use it to edit your output video as follows:
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/total-video-converter/effect.jpg
    1. Effect:
You are allowed to adjust the “Brightness”, “Contrast”, “Saturation” and you can choose the “deinterlacing” to make the video more enjoyable.
    2. Trim:
In “Trim” section you can pick up any part of the video to convert.
There are two ways to select the part of the video you want. One is set the start and end time in the box. The other one is to drag the start and end button in the processing bar.
    3. Crop:
This function allows you to choose a certain play area to convert. That means you can choose a part of the screen you like to convert. For example, you just like the tv in the middle of the screen, then you can drag the frame around the preview window to select the tv and the output preview will show you the output video. In this section you can also choose the “zoom mode”, such as “keep original”, “full screen”, “16:9”, “4:3”.
    4. Watermark
In the section, you can add a watermark on the output video to show people something, such as your name, website, studio name or other things. The watermark could be words and picture. You can adjust the transparent of the watermark easily to make it more beautiful.
Part 2. How to Convert Video on Mac
This time you need a Video Converter for Mac(http://www.aiseesoft.com/video-converter-for-mac.html)

  • I recored a video with my ipad, downloaded it to my mac but I cant upload it to Youtube because the format IMG is not a video format. How can I convert it?

How can I convert a video I took with my ipad on the format IMG to a supported format for Youtube?

To upload videos to YouTube we have to make sure videos are in a format that YouTube accepts. Here’s the list of some well-known video formats which YouTube supports:
WebM files (Vp8 video codec and Vorbis Audio codec)
MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files – (typically supporting h264 and mpeg4 video codecs and AAC audio codec)
AVI (Many cameras output this format – typically the video codec is MJPEG and audio is PCM)
MPEGPS (Typically supporting MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio)
    WMV)
FLV (Adobe – FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio)
But I think you get the wrong video file. iPad recorded video files are in m4v, mp4, mov, avi format but not the img files. Anyway, if you need a video converter, Format factory or iFunia video converter are good choice.
    Good luck!

  • Converting video from PC to Mac format using Handspring

I took some old videos out to a service to have converted, but didn't want a finished DVD so I could edit them. I got the data back on 2 dvds, one I converted and stored on an external drive. It was identified as DVD 2.m2p.mp4. This one loaded into iMovie 09 with no issues. I then tried to convert the 2nd disk and it went into iTunes when I tried to open it. It's title is DVD 1.m4v and will not transfer into iMovie. What do I do to get this into a movie format for editing?
    Thanks

Where do I get the mpegstreamclip? The service that I used doesn't know anything about Mac, so they ran a sample and I brought it home and converted it. It came out like the second DVD. I assumed they did the same thing on both and really don't understand video formats all that well. I thought maybe it was something I did in Handbrake that caused the different results.

  • Best video format for converting DVD to NAS for widely sharing

Summary: The article shows you with an easy workaround for
copying DVD to NAS for streaming by ripping DVD to NAS friendly video
    format on Mac and Windows
I recently purchased a NAS to store all my music/photos etc on. I
can stream stuff to my iPhone/iPad using the NAS software. What I want
to do is rip all my DVDs (over 400) to my NAS, but I’m not sure which
format to do it in, to play nice with my Apple TV2, Xbox 360, iPhone,
iPad etc. I wanna get some advice as to what format to rip in and what
    software to use?
Learn some tips from online, I got know that to copy dozens of DVD movies to NAS,
you need to get the content off the DVD disc as a protection-free and
easily readable element for NAS. In this case, at the first place
powerful third-party software for backup DVD to NAS is what you need.
There are many, many DVD ripping tools on the market. I’ve tired a pile of them.
    Brorsoft DVD Ripper
is the best one I’ve tried yet. It is capable of ripping DVD to MP4,
AVI, MKV for NAS streaming with no quality loss; it also enables you to
copy DVD main movies for backup onto NAS in .vob format. And what I’ve
learned is that MP4 would be one best target format for it is fully
compatible with nearly all media devices including iPad, iPhone, PS3,
Apple TV, etc. If you are running on Mac OS X, turn to  DVD Ripper for Mac. If you haven’t got the software, download it now and let’s start the conversion.
Ripping and copying DVDs to NAS
    1. Launch the DVD ripping program for NAS devices . Then
click "Load DVD" to import the DVD files you want to convert. To select
the subtitles you like, simply click Subtitle and select the one you
prefer. P.S. Before start the conversion, you can choose to backup DVD mian movies.
    2. Click Format bar and choose your desired format. To store
hundreds of DVD's on NAS, you can rip DVD to .mp4, or .avi, .mkv, etc
compressed format. And click Settings bar, you can adjust the level of
compression to suit the quality you want.
Tip: If you like, you can click “Settings” to change the
video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. as you wish. Keep in mind
the file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution
which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible
    quality loss, and vice versa.
    3. Press the "Convert" button to start ripping DVD for NAS streaming.
After the conversion, click Open button to find the output files.
Make sure the wireless network connection is accessible among the NAS
and Apple TV, PS3, HD TV or other media players. Then just enjoy the
high quality DVD movies anywhere anytime.

I've always found encoding with Handbrake and choosing the Apple TV2 preset is an excellent place to start and video encoded using that preset will work on my iPhone 4, 4S and iPad 2.
If the files encoded using that preset are too big for one's taste they can always encoded at a lower average bit rate rather than using the default 'Constant Quality' of 20.
Later on I'm sure the Handbrake group will have an AppleTV '3' preset supporting the 1080p format supported by the ATV3 and iPad '3' but using such a preset would not create a file usable on the iPad 2 or the iPhones.
