Converting video to disk

I was wondering if there was any store or business where i could take in a tape from my video camera and they will convert it to a disk for your computer.

Hi Julie,
to add some other grumpy comments...:
* I do know such a service, ... but Munich/Germany is maybe a little far away from your home? .. this is an international forum, so please add some little more details of your location to get any usefull info.-
* tape to disc for your computer... no good idea! most companies doing so, offer you a video-dvd, meaning, the tape is converted into mpeg2, which needs another conversion for editing it... twice lossy!
so, the tape should be converted into dv on a data-dvd, which fits max 20min of footage in this codec.
last sentence: with a Mac, you connect your camera to computer and hit "import"...Boom!Done! to quote the CEO of a minor computer manufacturer
think about "The Julie Lentz Store".... ;-))))

  • Converting video from PC to Mac format using Handspring

I took some old videos out to a service to have converted, but didn't want a finished DVD so I could edit them. I got the data back on 2 dvds, one I converted and stored on an external drive. It was identified as DVD 2.m2p.mp4. This one loaded into iMovie 09 with no issues. I then tried to convert the 2nd disk and it went into iTunes when I tried to open it. It's title is DVD 1.m4v and will not transfer into iMovie. What do I do to get this into a movie format for editing?
    Thanks

Where do I get the mpegstreamclip? The service that I used doesn't know anything about Mac, so they ran a sample and I brought it home and converted it. It came out like the second DVD. I assumed they did the same thing on both and really don't understand video formats all that well. I thought maybe it was something I did in Handbrake that caused the different results.

  • No succes with converting video, it stays bl

    Hi,
We've been trying to rip and convert video. We have been using AVS converter and Moyea to Rip but our video content stays black? We can hear the audio but we don't see the cvideocontent? For some reason they made it very hard to put a simple DVD on the Zen Creative... Does anybody know why it stays black and help us out?!!
    Thanx

    Hi,
I'm not aware of the laws in each specific country, but in a lot of countries it is not lawful. Copying DVDs requires breaking the encryption on the disks, which in itself is illegal. We cannot allow discussion on it for legal reasons, though I'm sure there are many websites and forums where you can find in depth information on this if you need it.

  • Converting Video(VHS-8mm) to DVDs

I have a macbook pro 17". I wish to convert video (vhs/8mm/vhsc/betamax) to DVD disks. What software and hardware do I need to buy in order to do this. I really need guidance with this.
Many Thanks, Jasu Nayee ([email protected])

I use two different ways to achieve this, depending on the situation.
    1. The slow way (but you can edit your stuff, add transitions etc in iMovie or FCP):
Hook up a your source to the analog inputs of a DV camera.
Hook up the DV camera to your Mac.
    Import with IMovie or FCP.
    Export to iDVD or Compressor/DVDStudio.
    Burn DVD.
    2. The faster way (but you can only do limited edits in DVDStudio):
    Buy a stand-alone DVD recorder.
Hook up your source, record your stuff.
Extract the MPEG2 stream and Dolby Digital audio with the freeware MPEG Stremclip.
Import the streams into DVDStudio (you can then do simple cut edits).
    Multiplex and burn to DVD.
    Cheers,

  • Burn or convert video

Is there a way to burn/convert video from iTunes Store? If not then I'm restricted to an iPod as my PMP, and that's proprietary bull...all the things I thought Apple was against (I mean, they ARE using a version of open source Unix as the OS). Are they trying to take their one money maker and push it off on everyone? I remember one company doing that some time ago...I think it's name was Microsoft!

I took some notes regarding the estimated time: iDVD apparently has an unreliable time remaining estimation algorithm.
At 4:43pm it said 8 hours 13 minutes remaining.
At 4:55pm it said 3 hours 17 minutes remaining.
At 5:25pm it said 2 hours 27 minutes remaining.
I returned around 9:00pm and was met with the following error message:
    Multiplexer Error
There was an error during building. The disc is still untouched and may be reused later.
I don't know whether this multiplexer error was also the cause of the unreliable time estimation; my next task when I have some free time is to resolve this multiplexer error.
Really, I encounter so many errors using this MacBook Pro (in this post I present three errors I've encountered from one routine use of standard software), it's disenfranchising: I was told by Mac users that they were better than and more reliable than Windows machines, in justifying the higher cost. Instead, I'm finding they're just different, and the higher cost apparently comes from being required to purchase various software that I may never use (e.g. GarageBand and iMovie). I'm not seeing less problems, only different problems. Before this 'Multiplexer Error' I encountered this one (which restarting appeared to resolve, as it increased my hard drive space from something like 6 GB to 8 GB -- for a ~4 GB burn):
    Burning preparation error:
Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets.
However, I think I still prefer Mac to Windows (having used Windows from around 1995-2010, and getting this MacBook Pro August 2010 -- I've only used Mac for two years, now): I like how it's Unix-based; I feel like I can do more with it, if I wanted or needed to.

how can i convert video files from my mac to watch them on my iphone?, how can i convert video files to watch them on my iphone?

Turns out the answer to that question changes if you ask it more than 4 times, so ask it again....
The answer depends on the type of video files you want to convert.  If they are DRM protected commercial videos, no help can be given here.  Google.

  • Free software to convert video on mac?

When looking for free software to convert some MTS and WMV files to play on my blackberry Z10, I found two software talked about most by people online, Handbrake and MacX Video Converter Free Edition.
Handbrake, I know it is popular among people, could convert any video to MP4 (M4V), MKV and convert videos for popular mobile players including iPad, iPod, Apple TV, PSP, etc.
While MacX Video Converter Free Edition is able to convert between HD videos MKV, M2TS, AVCHD and SD videos AVI, MP4, MOV, FLV etc. It also can easily convert videos to iPad 5, iPhone 5S, iPod, Samsung, HTC, PSP, Microsoft, Xbox and ,more as well as convert pictures into a slideshow video.
Anyone tried both of them? Which one is better?

When I download standard Video Podcasts H264/MPEG4 does the Itouch need to Transcode them? Example on the Creative Zen V plus downloading the latest edition of Cnet Live it took 13 minutes to convert the file. Will files downloaded from Itunes be about the same size from the download to the player? Example a 200Meg file downloaded to the Zen V Plus will convert to 1 Gig or more!
    Thanks for your help.

  • Adobe Media Encoder (Under After Effects CS4) Poor Converted Video

I have here the converted file: http://www.mediafire.com/?mnm0dcz3zyt

As David said - find a more realworld test case. Apple's trailers are by all rights QT files, meaning that they will not necessarily be transcoded at the MPEG stream level, but instead fully re-compressed from the expanded pixel buffer - you may not see artifacts, but they are there nonetheless and will influence the quality of subsequent encodings, even more so on something as colorful and high contrast as this particular trailer... Also it seems you have made a moosh of your framerates. I'm not sure about the concrete example, but most Apple trailers are 24p native.

  • Display won't sleep when converting video to iphone in itunes

Whenever I convert video files to iphone under the advanced menu in itunes, my display wont sleep and the screensaver will not come on. I tried using the hot corners and the display sleeps for a few seconds and them awakens. Since conversions can take quite a while, is there any alternate method to sleep or temporarily shut off the display. I have also tried the sleep display widget and it does nothing for me.
    Thanks!

if it's still within 12 months hardware warranty call apple and have tech support diagnose the fault. If it turns out to be hardware related -which mine was- SEND IT BACK. IF it's hardware, there's almost zip you can do except wait longer and get closer to the end of your warranty.
    My sleep issue...
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4126127#4126127
was hardware related and I ended getting a refund. Admittedly I have had a REALLY duff machine and the sleep issue was the last in a run of hardware malfunctions but if I never pursued Apple regarding a seemingly innocuous issue I would have come to the end of my warranty and been stuck with it. Now I have my money back - enough to buy a 17" C2D with a 200GB HD for less than I bought the original 15 in CD for. If it's broken get it fixed.
    Hope this helps.
    Ben.

  • Convert Video Switch in Desktop Software

What happens when I use  the convert video switch in the Desktop Software when I am syncing videos to and from playbook.  Having problems playing video clips tagged as AVI.  Get error message on Playbook when I go to play the clips.  Assuming not a true AVI or using a 3rd party codec or something along that line.  Will play on computers but not the Playbook.  Will the convert video switch in the Desktop Software solve the problem.  Tried to use but it appeared to start to "convert"  all videos in file to upload to Playbook so I cancelled.  Any suggestion?  Thanks, Brian

Am I the only one suffering this issue with the video transcoding?

  • Converting Video to iPod, can you change name of file

When you convert Video to iPod format, can you change name of the new file or put some "marker" so one can tell which is the orginal and which is the new file?
Currently it is difficult to tell between the orignal and the new file.
    thanks in advance
    Rohit

You'd probably be better off doing this sort of editing in iTunes, and letting it move the files appropriately.
Go to the preferences, Advanced tab, and check the box to 'Keep iTune Music folder organized'. Then any changes you make to song names or other info (within iTunes) will automatically be applied.

Can anyone tell me if there is a shareware program that converts video files to flv?
FilmRedux (open source version of Visual Hub) or FFmpegX. Alternatively, you can upload to YouTube, let them convert the file, and then download the converted file version.
