Converting Video to play on iPod

I have a Windows system with XP Media Center software. I am trying to take shows recorded and convert them to play on my video iPod. Recorded shows are saved with a *.dvr-ms extension. Is there any way to convert this to an iPod-ready format? I tried Videora iPod Converter, but after 2+ hours trying to convert over a 1/2 hour show, I gave up. Has anyone else done this? Any tips?

  • Converting videos to play on iPod takes away sound

For some reason, every time I convert a video in iTunes to play on my iPod, the sound is removed. The original video and the converted video will both play in iTunes, and the original video will have the sound and the converted video will not. Obviously, when I move the converted video to the iPod, the sound still doesn't play.
I've downloaded a few video podcasts (the Strong Bad e-mails) in iPod format already, and they work just fine. It's just ones I convert manually in iTunes that have this problem.

Quicktime doesn't play "muxed" video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
    See:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588
You need a 3rd party converter such as Handbrake, or MPEG Streamclip to convert the video file.
The file must meet the following specifications to play correctly.
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
    -or-
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
Incidentally, the forum for the iPod 5th gen (iPod video) is here.

This is the forum for the older color iPod (the one that used to called the iPod photo).

  • Converting Videos to play on iPod

Nero6 Recoder does the best job of converting videos, video files or DVD movies. Use the Sony PSP presets. It's fast. The video and audio quality is great and in sync. A 90 min. movie will convert in about an hour.

Is it easier to use than Videora is? Heh. Do you happen to have a link on you? Is it free? facepalm I ask too many questions >_< Sorry ^-^

  • Converting videos to play on ipod video

I can export my videos to the correct format using the latest Quicktime Pro, but there is no sound when I play them back on the ipod. Any ideas?

QT will not export the sound from muxed mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 files and will not play or export variable bit rate mp3 sound in avi files. Try this freeware for converting those kinds of files:

  • Can't get videos to play in iPod.

I used Quicktime Pro 7 to convert videos of other formats to the mpeg-4 (.mp4) and the ipod .m4u format, both of which should work as they are the formats supported. However, I get a blank white screen when I try to play the videos on the ipod, although the sound comes through-- not the video.

    Try this. Go to video-->video settings-->TV Out-->Off
    Does that help?

  • Converting vidoes to play on iPod?

Hi. I use itunes 8. According to the instruction itunes has to convert the movie into a format copmpatible with the iPod. (that is MPEG 4). When iTunes converts the vidoe file to MPEG 4 all the audio is lost. I only see the picture when I play the converted version. What can I do to solve this problem?

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (both of which iTunes uses) does not convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.

  • Video not playing on ipod

i have many videos on my ipod including ones bought from itunes and ones that i magically put on myself. the other day my video was playing perfectly. then today i tried to play a tv show that i got off of itunes and it wont play. the play icon shows up in the corner of the screen for a second then dissapears and the screen is left black (like the video is loading) then my ipod proceeds to freeze when i hit any button. it is only with the tv show that i just got. all other videos are working fine except that show(even episodes i had prior to today) i thought that the update would help but it didnt. i havent had the same problem as everyone else though with it freezing after 30 seconds. why wont it work?

  • Do PSP converted videos work for the ipod?

I heard that videos already converted for the PSP also work for the ipod. Is this true? Please i really need you to answer this jsut a simple yes or no if you can. Thxs.....

Um for the most part. The correct file format for the iPod is MP4. The PSP also uses this, but I think it can use some other formats too. There are a few programs out there that you can use to convert video files for both the PSP and iPod. If you are using a Mac I suggest ffmpegx. If you are using a PC, the go with the PSPvideo9. If you download these and either one of them is confusing to you, repost back here and I'll see if I can unconfuse you. Good luck!

  • Trying to reformat videos to play on ipod

I just purchased a ipod video, i'm trying to import my old videos from my computer. I purchased the QT pro to help with this. I followed the instruction that I was given to reformat the files, but when I get to the progress bar i'm getting nothing. I've let the progress bar run for 5 and 1/2 hours and i'm just now at 30%. Please let me know if i'm doing something wrong, or if ther's a better way. By the way my OS is windows XP.

I found a free program that converts video to files compatible with the iPod video:

  • How to get videos to play on IPOD (what program to use)

    Hello folks,
Quick question - how do I get just small music clip videos to play on my IPOD? I'm not even sure why I am asking this question since I have exported in "QT" to .mp4 but they are still not uploading.
I downloaded "VisualHub" and the demo version is only 2minutes of video but I really don't have any more money to purchase any other stuff to get these videos to play so what do u suggest?
    Thanks,
    Joey Dee

    hey CG,
Thanks for the reply, i did a search for this "Videora" and i found it to be only a windows program and I downloaded the file but it's .exe
I have been trying to find a MAC version but I don't think its available - is there a way you can link me that file?
    Regards,

  • Convert video to play on my ipod

how do i convert my videos that i downloaded to play on my ipod???

You should be aple to use iTunes and just make a right click and click convert to iPod, but for me that always gives a -54 error.
I have also tried converting with Quicktime Pro.
When I selected convert to iPod it works absolutly fine, but it takes realyl long, so I tried to cut the time, by decreasing the quality.
I tried to export a quicktime movie, in h.264 with Data rate restritec to 500 kbits and Dimensions 320x240 with audio aac at 64 kbits.
But for some reason the iPod does not accept this video.
    Don't know why. Anybody know?

  • Converting Video to play on my Ipod

Is there any way to convert MP4 or a normal DVD to play on my Ipod Video?

I know that in your case it may not make a big difference UNLESS you want to do something else when encoding as it frees your CPU for other things. So, if you want to leave it encoding and nothing else, no difference. If you want to encode and do other CPU intensive stuff, maybe.

  • HELP! Converted my videos to play on ipod & popup keep saying it wont work

i have not used this application personally, I use handbrake and instant handbrake on OS X.
iTunes does not handle any of the video format conversions, it simply adds the metadata to its database for playback.

  • ITunes Purchased Music/Videos Not Playing On iPod

    Hi All..
Long time reader, first time 'post-er'..
I have a problem that is starting to annoy me.. All my purchased music and videos from iTunes will play in iTunes and transfer to the ipod, but when I go into play these from the iPod.. It starts to play (on videos the black screen comes up) then just jumps back to the menu.
My videos that I have converted from DVD are perfect, and songs I have imported are also perfect.. Its just everything from iTunes wont play on my iPod.. But I obviously cant convert my iTunes videos because they are protected.. To get my purchased music on my iPod I need to burn and import.. Annoying isnt it?!
Anyone have any ideas??? Would be very much appreciated!!
