Converting videos for the ipod -HELP!!!!

I have a few videos in my itunes. I can watch them and they work just fine, but when I attempt to drag and drop them onto my itouch, they won't go because it says that they cannot be played on the ipod.So I right-click and hit convert for ipod and it goes through that long process and creates basically another copy of the movie, just in a different format. When I play that new copy in my itunes, there's no sound. When I put it onto my itouch and I play it,there's no sound either. The video works,it's just the sound that's not there.
Help?

Your source video file is probably muxed.
I don't believe iTunes has the ability to successfully encode a muxed video file with audio. You'll end up with video and no audio.
You'll need to use some other third-party software to do the conversion. There's a handful of software available. Just search the forums and you'll find many titles mentioned.
Try MPEG Streamclip.

  • Converting Videos for the Video Ipod?

ok i just bought the 60G Video IPOD, i downloaded a video from Itunes just to see if it works, i downloaded a video from Limewire, and when i went to add it to the ipod it says that it could not be added or using with the Ipod why? I need to converte it from the itunes Library? Ok once it gets downloaded into the limewire folder and i add it to itunes, what do i do next before adding it to the ipod, i am not spending 1.99 for each video that will be like 1,000 i spoend on videos..lol
Thank you so much for your help

I just got the Video iPod also. So far not too happy about the file type restrictions...after all I spent a year encoding MY entire DVD collectin and was thrilled not to have to take a laptop with me on travel.
    CONVERTING MOVIES for ViPOD.
You have to have the updated Quicktime 7.0.3.
AND then you have to open the file in QT.
    Go to EXPORT.
Select "Movie to iPod" which will convert the file to an .m4v
The movie will be saved in this mode as 320x240.
However, this process is incredibly slow. It's been trying to convert a movie in .mp4 to .m4v and it's been two hours now and it looks like it's only 15% done.
There has to be a faster conversion tool out there. For viewing a few flicks...I would have to spend days just to get 3 or 4 movies on my Video iPod.
MY SUGGESTION: DONT BUY the ViPod YET!!!! Wait till the holidays are over or give an Apple Gift Card.

  • Converting videos to the ipod

what are the formats that iTunes can convert to the ipod using "Convert Selection for Ipod" option? i read that converting mpg using the above option makes them "muxed" w/ no sound. I download mpgs of Limewire and that seems to be the only option, mpg format. please help asap!

No you have got that confused.
"i read that converting mpg using the above option makes them "muxed" w/ no sound. "
MPEGs are muxed or Multiplexed files. Joined video and audio to one file. In order for the file to be properly converted. The conversion program has to treat the file as two seperate streams during the conversion. It Demultiplexes the audio and video then rejoins them. Quicktime cannot do this splitting and treats the file as one file. Thus you get video with no audio.
You need a conversion program that can handle a variety of files. Itunes is good for .mov extension files.

  • Converting videos for your iPod.

I have a video iPod and am having some trouble with adding a certain two videos to it. I imported the videos and then " Converted Selection For iPod.." but whenever i play the videos on my iPod there is no audio. Can anyone help?
      Windows XP

Apparently if you have a muxed video (a video where the video and sound are seperate) iTunes can't convert it with audio. very disappointed in Apple in this matter.

  • Converting videos for my ipod??

i downloaded a video and want to put it on my video ipod..when i tried it said it couldnt,so i clicked the thing that converts it to i guess ipod format or something..anyway its a one hour movie and its not even half way done converting is it suppose to take this long,am doing something wrong?..also do i have to convert every kind of movie or show i put on it??
    -help me please,thankyou

Converting DVD or video files to an ipod friendly format is very processor and RAM hungry - these files can take some time to convert, after all the convertor has to work on each and every frame you view. I tend to run my conversion tasks overnight in batches (I use Xilisoft software) so it doesn't bother me. As a rough guide a 45min avi file conversion takes approx 15 mins and a 4Gb DVD about an hour - these times will obviously vary with the spec of machine, I have a 3.0GHz, 1Gb RAM laptop...

  • Do PSP converted videos work for the ipod?

I heard that videos already converted for the PSP also work for the ipod. Is this true? Please i really need you to answer this jsut a simple yes or no if you can. Thxs.....

Um for the most part. The correct file format for the iPod is MP4. The PSP also uses this, but I think it can use some other formats too. There are a few programs out there that you can use to convert video files for both the PSP and iPod. If you are using a Mac I suggest ffmpegx. If you are using a PC, the go with the PSPvideo9. If you download these and either one of them is confusing to you, repost back here and I'll see if I can unconfuse you. Good luck!

  • HELP PLEASE! CANT HEAR THE VIDEOS ON THE IPOD

Please help me, i finally figured out how to put videos on the ipod, but the problem now is that the videos are without sound, i cant hear them please help me im desperate

Your source files are probably one of the "muxed" types -- with audio and video information interspersed in a single data stream. You will need a converter that is MPEG based to transcode the file to an intermediate format which contains separate audio and video information. Then this intermediate file can easily be converted to iPod compatible file by most "common" file type converters. Some applications with perform this double-conversion in a seamless process, but most of these types are not free.

  • Convert video for ipod error

Recently iTunes has stopped converting videos for me. When I right click and choose 'Convert selection for ipod' I now get "Error occured while converting 'file name'. The required file cannot be found."
The file uploads into the library and plays great. This has just started happening in the last week or so, before then it worked fine. I am saving the original files as Quicktime MOV files and in the same location as they were being saved before.

    Hi mvlys and all,
firstly, I assume you mean to suggest changing the preferences under the pull-down menu Edit => Preferences and then activate the Register Card "Advanced" and change the "iTunes Music folder location" to the default at installation.
I have never changed this and do not allow iTunes to move any media to the default directory, so there is nothing to change on my installation.
The message displayed in the pop-up says: "The required file cannot be found". This sounds more like iTunes was expecting to find some file belonging to iTunes at some specific location, but cannot. Which file is however not mentioned.
Is this forum being monitored by Apple?
Can we expect them to pick up on this error.
