Converting videos: No sound
When I play a video on my computer it works just fine, and there's sound and everything. But when I convert it using itunes so that I can put it on my ipod, the product of the conversion doesn't play any sound, neither on my ipod or on my computer. Any suggestions as to why this is happening would be great, thanks.

Converted videos without sound
i have added and converted 5 videos to ipod format, and added to my ipod.
even though the videos had sound before they are not playing with sound on my ipod or on my itunes
how can i make it play with soundThe discussion of converting/ripping DVDs to iPod format is forbidden on these boards - [Terms of Use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa]. I would suggest searching the internet or going to the [iPod Lounge|http://www.ipodlounge.com] to find what you're looking for, because I'm sure you're talking about converting your home movie DVDs to iPod format and not breaking the Copywrite protection of Commercial DVDs and U.S. Federal Law in the process.
P.S. Breaking Copywrite Protection is also against the law in most other countries as well. -
Itunes/QT converts video from sound to no-sound
I have a video that has sound. when i convert it for ipod or when I convert in QT to ipod, it ends up converted with no sound. Any thoughts? Thanks!
iTunes and Quicktime don't much like muxed MPEG files, they lose the sound when you convert them.
Here's a post I made with some ways around this: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1171379 -
ITunes converts video, drops sound.
Everytime I spend 4+ hours converting a 20 minute video, iTunes cuts out the sound on the video.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.

OK so I just got an iPhone and with the exception of a few niggling errors I'm quite happy with it.
I've got a few videos I'd like to put on there, 3 in particular that are already in quicktime and 320x240. It won't let me put those directly onto the iPhone so I use the "convert for iPod" function which takes a minute but when is finished, has no sound... Even when I play it in iTunes. This would seem to be a codec problem but I'm no expert here.
Can someone help me out with this problem?Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert the videos; more information is available in this article.

No sound when convert videos to ipod
i have bought quicktime pro, and i can successfully convert videos onto my ipod, but there is no sound on them. has anyone got a clue how i can resolve this?
thanks alot
Windows XPNo new "points" can be given as yours was just a tagged on response to an already answered question.
Muxed file formats (MPEG 1 or 2 and Flash) are intended for playback only. MPEG 1 or 2 require licensing agreements ($$) from the Moving Pictures Export Group (the people that make the file name MPEG) which would be passed on to all end users and Apple has decided against those extra fees.
Those are the "limitations" of the Apple software. It currently doesn't extract audio from muxed file formats and I don't expect any changes any time soon.
Dozens (hundreds) of third party software apps can convert your file and include audio. Many of them are free.
MPEG Streamclip offers both a Mac and Windows version. It can convert your .mpg file with audio. It even has a "one button" export feature to meet the specifications for iPod files.
Now you really know the limitations of the software and the reasons for them.
Get some third party tool to make your iPod files from your muxed file formatted ones. -
Will MPEG-2 convert a video with sound?
I've converted my videos to MPEG-4 using Quicktime Pro, and they play fine but with no sound.
Is this the application I need to convert them with sound?
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/I've converted my videos to MPEG-4 using Quicktime Pro, and they play fine but with no sound. Is this the application I need to convert them with sound? http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
No. As Kay tried to explain, the MPEG2 component will simply allow you to extract the video data from a "muxed" stream of audio/video information. To extract and convert both audio and video data, use an MPEG based third party application like MPEG Streamclip (free). This application uses MPEG routines to decocde "muxed files (e.g., MPEG1, MPEG2, VOB, etc.) and then uses your QT Tools package to convert them to an iPod specific (or other QT compatible) format. (NOTE: Windows version of MPEG Streamclip does require the Apple MPEG2 component you asked about.) -

Under categories go to: Audio & Video Software>Rippers & Encoders
go through their list. They even display a lot of FREE software!
For my Mac I've been out of luck when it comes to random video files (videos from the internet). DVD's I can rip. I use an app called HandBrake.
Sorry, I didn't know what kind of hardware you were useing. Can you be a little more specific? -
Converted videos play, but no sound
Videos that I have converted are synced and playing on my i pod, but they have no sound. Any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, iTunes & the iPod (both of which use QuickTime) only show the video and no sound.
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files

One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...

Help! converted video short, now no sound!!!!
hey guys,
i have a movie which is in MPEG movie format, and i tried syncing it to my ipod. a pop up then says that the type of movie was not supported by my ipod, so then i checked out troubleshooting and said that it was recommended to convert which is in the advanced section of the itunes bar. after the conversion, i then synced it to my ipod. the video is playing but there is no sound, not even on itunes...
can anybody help? You don't need to buy anything from the spammers that infect these forums.
Check this out. It contains a lot of links to various free converters.

Converting videos to play on iPod takes away sound
For some reason, every time I convert a video in iTunes to play on my iPod, the sound is removed. The original video and the converted video will both play in iTunes, and the original video will have the sound and the converted video will not. Obviously, when I move the converted video to the iPod, the sound still doesn't play.
I've downloaded a few video podcasts (the Strong Bad e-mails) in iPod format already, and they work just fine. It's just ones I convert manually in iTunes that have this problem.Quicktime doesn't play "muxed" video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588
You need a 3rd party converter such as Handbrake, or MPEG Streamclip to convert the video file.
The file must meet the following specifications to play correctly.
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
-or-
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
Incidentally, the forum for the iPod 5th gen (iPod video) is here.
