Converting VRO movie files

OK. Should start by stating that I'm a long time Mac user (since 1989), first time caller…
And I live in the digital SLR photography world.
Question: Need to be able to use iMovie to edit video recorded as .VRO format.
Can Quick Time Pro convert the files? Or should some other software be used? "MPEG2 Works 4" maybe?
I have recorded these movies using a Hitachi DZBX35A DVD Camcorder. Of course, this particular model does not allow USB plug into computer and uses VRO format for the files finalized onto Mini DVD.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Have found a work around if anyone is interested…
1 Finalize MiniDVD in camera.
2 use tray style DVD drive to run MiniDVD on my MacPro.
3 Copy .VRO file to desktop.
4 Run Roxio Toast 8. Choose Video options and DVD-Video
5 Place .VRO file in DVD-Video: My DVD area.
6 Select video and Export as .dv file back to desktop.
7 Now the .dv file can be opened and edited in iMovie.
8 save out to whatever desired format.
9 Rejoice!
Thanks!

  • Media encoder inserts black frame at beginning, when converting my MOV file to H264 for YouTube 720pHD

I'm using Adobe Media Encoder to convert my MOV file to H264, and selecting "YouTube 720pHD" (for Instagram) as I was instructed by someone at Adobe over the phone. But it inserts a black frame at the beginning or end. When I open the converted file on my desktop, the black frame is the first frame. After I upload to Instagram, the black frame is at the end. How can I get rid of the black frame?! Please help!

    Welcome to the furum, Forrest.
Hmmm. I don't recall hearing of that problem. There may not be many users who can offer a solution.
This workaround should work, however: Open the exported movie in QuickTime Player and remove the first frame. (I think it's only the first frame that is black, not the first second. Remove all the black, whatever it is.) Save the movie. That may cause QT Player to save it into a new movie. Use the modified movie for your Web site. QuickTime Pro is required — $30 from Apple.
Note that you've posted in the iMovie 6 forum, not the iMovie HD forum for iMovie 5. There are fewer current iMovie 5 users here. Most were iM5 users, however, so someone might remember this problem.

I think handbrake is easier for novices.
Mpegstreamclip is good software with a lot of great features but may be more than most people need.

What does "old movies" mean to you? File type, audio and/or video compression format(s)?

Did you follow the instructions found here?

To which fix do you refer? Activatng QT 7 Pro or converting the files? Even with QT 7 Pro activated you may need to modify your QT codec component configuration depending on the file type and compression formats used to encode your "old movies." There may be many different problems here with each having one or more "fixes." Please try to be more specific regarding your questions. Converting a muxed VOB MPEG2/AC3 file would be very different different from converting an AVI DivX5/MP3 file depending on which application you are attempting to use.

consider usage of a diff. editor.. iMovieHD6, you're entitled for a free downlaod at apple.com:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
but IF you're relaxed, opened your mind, follow the bright light, ommmm.. for Events & Stuff:
your intended workflow will add another step of quality-degradition (8mm>>avi>>mp4>>iM08) ..
consider the free tool Mpeg Streamclip www.squared5.com for 'chopping' that 90min beast into pieces..
rename these new chunks, follow advice given on my site:

    there's the manual..

  • How can I convert a mov file to swf?

how can I convert a mov file to swf?

You don't. You convert your mov file to a mp4 h264 encoded file, and import that into Flash. Then export to swf (in a folder), and you use that swf in your page (do not forget to upload all the other assets as well).
Alternatively, convert to html 5 video files which are also supported by mobile devices.
    Learn more here: http://diveintohtml5.info/video.html
ps you can use the Adobe Media Encoder to convert your mov files to h264. Or to html5 video:

How can I convert a MOV file to 4K MP4 file? I can't find any default setting for MP4 nor I do known how to set one.

Start with the Plus sign in the Setting pane> New Setting. Choose MPEG4 from dropdown. Give it a name and save and it will be saved in your custom presets. Make adjustments to resolution, bit rate, etc in Inspector.

  • Quicktime does not convert my .MOV file into a watchable format on Quicktime

    Hi guys!
I won't give you all a long sob story but basically, I went to my first music festival over the weekend and uploaded my videos onto my friends computer, I then uploaded these videos (i took with my iPhone) to Google Drive. When i got back onto my own computer, I download the .MOV files from Google Drive, these videos would not convert into a watchable format. It gives me the message -
"QuickTime Player can't open "IMG_8788.MOV". To see if additional software is available that will enable QuickTime Player to open the movie, click Tell Me More."
It says that Quicktime should support MOV files. I am using version 10.3 Quicktime player with iOS Mavericks. I really want help with this issue as I will be devastated if these videos are lost. My friend obviously deleted them off his computer because they did take up alot of space!

iPhone recorded files should already be compatible QT X v10.3 (and QL) as is in the MOV file container. However, the process of downloading, uploading, and again downloading the files may have created some sort of issue causing QT X to not properly "recognize" the content and thus, wants you to check for additional support.
In any case, will the files open in any other media players? (E.g., VLC, MPlayerX, NicePlayer, QT 7, MPEG Streamclip, etc.) For instance, if the files open in QT 7 Pro, MPEG Streamclip, or VLC, you may be able to copy the data to a new MOV file container which QT X will open and play. (I.e., this procedure does not recompress the data and is reasonable quick. Also not sure if using the "Command-D" Finder option to "duplicate" the file will create a "readable" file or not but you might try it.)

  • Convert to MOV file

Can any one suggest the best method to convert my Flash (CS5) animation to MOV file?  I originally created images in Illustrator and exported to SWF file.  Then I imported in Flash and created animation.  When I test the animation, the images are nice and crisp and clear. But when I export to MOV file in Quicktime, the images are not crisp and clear  I tried different settings but no success.  Any idea why?  Thanks

Your original artwork in Illustrator is vector. When you import this art into Flash it is still rendered as a vector image. Flash stores the vector information and redraws the art at runtime directly to the user's screen. The artwork's original quality is maintained. When you export that vector artwork as a digital video file, you are converting the vector images to raster images. Digital video files are stored as compressed raster files. This means that any animation sequence is stored as a set of keyframes with the in-betweening across these keyframes stored as approximations of the differences between those keyframes.
Raster images are usually more realistic and rich looking than vector images. Photographs are raster images. Raster images look best at their original size. When you enlarge or reduce the image size of a raster image, the original clarity is "muddied" as the individual pixel contents are approximated to fit the new size. This same "muddying" effect happens when you take a vector image or images and convert them to raster.
There are many steps that you can take to insure the best possible quality of the digital video output. The image size, frame rate, and compressor options, all play a part in the quality of the finished product.
There is no simple 1,2,3, to getting great video out of Flash. I've done a bit of this and my method goes something like this:
    1. Set up Flash for the final output to video, make the stage size the same as the expected video file's image size.
    2. Set the frame rate to match the video output.
    3. Use the timeline for all movement and animation.
    4. Test the video export frequently during production.
    5. Export the final content as uncompressed video and uncompressed audio. I export to .mov file format.
    6. Use a video editor app to compress the exported .mov. I use Final Cut Pro.
If you have any existing video content that needs to be imported into your Flash movie, use the best possible conversion processor. I use Sorenson Squeeze to convert digital video to .flv and then import the .flv into Flash.

  • Converting VOB movie files for iMovie 09

I would like to import movie files into iMovie 09 which are in the VOB format. How do I convert the files to a format for iMovie 09?

I purchased this Mac two days ago. For a work application I purchased this camera 1 week ago. When I bought the camera I asked the vendor if software came with the camera that would allow me to load the videos onto the computer but when I received the camera no software was included and no one from Canon or the camera vendor would help. I had a Canon DC 330 that came with the software last year but someone from my company made off with it. Another story another day.
I've used PC's for years but I've been wanting to try a Mac anyway so I went into the Apple store with a VOB file that the PC would not read. It took a little fussing but the tech loaded the VOB file directly from the 3" DVD (took a few minutes to find a machine that read the DVD) into iMovie. Worked real slick so I walked out with a new Mac. I knew there would be a significant learning curve but nothing ventured nothing gained.
The Apple Store is over an hours drive one way but I suppose I'll have to go back and see if I can figure this out. Not an issue, just time consuming.
Anyway suggestions would be most appreciated. I will try the tip found on this post but any steps I can save would be great.

  • Converting .MOD movie file for import into FCP

I have a DVD with .MOD movie files I am editing for a church. The files open in a PC with Windows Media Player, although I can not import them into After Effects in a PC, and they do not open in QuickTime Player.
I would like to edit these clips using Final Cut Studio in my macbook pro. Is there any way to convert these files to .mov???
    Thanks for any input/suggestions.

    .MOD files or VOB files?

  • Convert Quicktime (.mov) file to a Flash movie?

I have Flash CS3 that came with Adobe Creative Suite. I Never
used it but can it convert a Quicktime (.mov) file to a Flash movie
so I can play it on the web? If so where do I start? I also want
the viewer to be able to stop and start the Flash movie. I guess I
    need a skin or something?
Also I'm confused about the difference between a FLV and SWF
file. Which one do I need for the web?
    Thanks,

not really - you can export the MOV to an FLV and run that
through the flash player at runtime. You
can also import the MOV into flash doc. depends.

Flash is not a video editor - i would get yourself quicktime
Pro ($30 US) and open your MOV and
export as an Image Sequence - then from flash import the
first image into it - flash will detect the
numerically named files and prompt you to import them all -
they will end up as individual images in
    keyframes on the timeline.
But sounds to me like you are trying to use flash to edit
video - not recommended as flash was never
intended to be used this way.
