Converting Windows Media Player Tunes to ITunes

I have hundreds of songs recorded on my Windows Media Player, but can not determine how to convert them all to my ITunes for down load to my IPOD Shuffle without doing them one at a time or by re-downloading the CD on ITunes. Can anyone help me?! Gosh, it took forever to download all of this music originally and I almost feint to think of having to download each CD again in ITunes, there must be a better (easier) way! Help!

iTunes cannot convert DRM protected files from Windows media player. Usually these are file puchased online.
However WMP has an option to import CDs with copy protection. I guess you have this option selected.
If the music you imported from CDs is copy protected and you want to use iTunes, you will have to import them again prefereably using iTunes.

  • Convert Windows Media Player playlist into iTunes??????

How can I convert all of my playlists that I have saved in Windows Media Player into iTunes??? nothing is working!!

Yes, though as I recall iTunes wants absoulte file paths. You either need to edit the playlist before import or use a script I wrote called ImportM3U which, as a bonus, can convert any unprotected WMA files on the fly and add them to the playlist.
BTW, if you're going to try to get WMP & iTunes to share playlists you'd better disable any options for automatically organizing files. See Getting iTunes & Windows Media Player to play nicely for more info.

How can I import Windows Media Player Playlists, into iTunes Playlists, with Music . .  for an iPod
We are having no luck with the thousands of songs we have to manualy add to a particular playlist in iTunes alone. .. there must be a simpler way! How can this be done . . . if there is and it's complicated, is the Genius allowed to help us out with this? They seem to only master Mac's only. .  or can they help us? PL E A SE E E  HELLPPP!

    tt2,
Your very helpful and knowledgeable. I for one appreciate all the hardwork and help you have been giving the people on theses lists, especially with the problems associated with the "importing playlists" from windows media. Unfortunately I need more help if you or someone else can provide it. I followed all the steps you have instructed so far in the threads I have seen. Unfortunately nothing so far works for me. Maybe you or someone can help me, I'd really appreciate it. I tried the notepad++ method and when I click on save I always get a notepad file that my iTunes can't do anything with. I click the "convert to UTF-8 without BOM" then click save as and it still saves as a notepad file. I am also unable to find the \n\ file path to replace with my \C:\ filepath. Here is a copy of the first part of one of my playlists:

Now I went and switched the part from  <media src="..\ to <media src="C:\ in all the files in hopes that was where I am supposed to have my drive letter but it didn't seem to help. Please forgive my encoding ignorance if that's what my problem is. I hope you can help.  Thanks in advance.

  • Download windows media player movies to itunes to ipod

download windows media player movies to itunes to ipod?  downloaded music ok

I saw that post... but it doesn't match the screen in Windows Media Player 0. On the Sync tab there is a Start Sync button a Edit Playlist button and Set up Sync button. The 'Set up Sync' button is always disabled.
I can't figure out how to get the playlists downloaded to the Zen Touch. Windows Media Player 0 would be the way to go if I could get the playlists to download.
I have played around over and over with the screens etc... I just can't figure out how to make them download with the Zen Touch anyway... 40 gig, for what it's worth.
If someone has been able to do this with a Zen Touch, I would love to know how to do it.

  • Importing Windows Media Player playlist into itunes is possible?

    Please Help!
Is there any way to import a WMP(*.m3u, *.txt or whatever) playlist into iTunes?
I just want to know it is possible or not, because I am tired of making same playlists for WMP and iTunes everytime for several devices.

Yes, though as I recall iTunes wants absoulte file paths. You either need to edit the playlist before import or use a script I wrote called ImportM3U which, as a bonus, can convert any unprotected WMA files on the fly and add them to the playlist.

  • Windows media player files to itunes

How can I trasfer my Windows Media Player Files to my Ipod

    Open itunes.
First go to the edit menu, select preferences, click the advanced tab, and select importing. For best song capacity on the ipod, make sure that the encoder is set to "Import using AAC encoder", and "High quality 128 kbps". Hit OK.
Then go to file menu, then go to "add file to library" or if its a whole folder "add folder to library".
Select the song or songs you want to add, then hit open. A box will come up saying "one or more of the files you are adding are wma files",click ok and itunes will convert them into aac format (this could take a while if you have a number of songs). It should be noted that this will only work with unprotected WMA files, not ones bought off of the windows media store or imported to windows media with protection.
Once the music is in your ipod library there are a few ways to get it onto the ipod. Here are two.
    Manual
Connect the ipod, go to the edit menu then preferences and select "manually update songs and playlists" Then , from the itunes library, highlight all the songs you want on your ipod by holding the shift key and clicking on the last song. Right click and go to copy. Click on your ipod at the left hand side of itunes, then go to the edit menu and paste the songs into the ipod.
    Automatic
This is the default mode on ipods. For automatic mode, connect the ipod, go to the edit menu, then preferences, and tick "automatically update all songs and playlists" and also tick "update checked songs only". Once you have added song to your library, simply untick the boxes of the songs that you do not want to be transferred onto your ipod, then itunes will automatically update only the songs that you have ticked.
Sorry its a bit long, but hopefully it helps. Post back if you have any problems

  • Convert Windows media Player WAV file to QuickTime

I have been asked to e mail a windows media player WAV file in the Quick Time format. My PC has the free Quick Time 7.2 version. How can I convert these files from a WAV file to the Quick Time format? I see a Quick Time upgrade that appears to do the trick, just want to make sure. Thanks!!

Clears the air a bit. Your file is .wma (Windows Media Audio) format.
Mac users that have installed http://flip4mac.com will be able to hear the file. Older Mac users would use the Windows Media Player for Mac to listen to it.
No conversion is needed for most Mac users.
There are hundreds of third party apps that can convert audio and video formats. Some are free and others offer free trial conversions. A little Google searching should help you find what you need.

  • Convert Windows Media Player to something that will work on the IPOD

I just bought my I-Pod today, and I don't know what type of video will play on it. I was trying to upload some window media player files, but no luck. How do I get my Windows Media Player files to work on my I-Pod. Oh, yes, my computer is a Mac. I'm on OS X 3-9.
    Thank you for your help!

Hi All, Thanks so much for responding to my question...not a powerpoint -- so forget that.  I have tried all of your suggestions.  First, the h264 route:  creates a file that is something on the order of 3X the size of the .mov (which was too big to begin with). Took forever -- became such a size that I couldn't get it onto a flash drive (11gb became 30+gb).
Now, if necessary, I'll take my machine to theirs and make a transfer via ethernet -- but that doesn't account for backup copies....
Second, I made an MPEG2 version and stored it on DVDs.  They would not play on the PC either. This is the way I have delivered to non-broadcast clients for years and has always worked.   I use the DVD MPEG2 Best  Quality 90 minutes and AAC audio settings.
I looked at the flip4mac site and of course, the version I need is the most expensive.  There must be some alternative to spending $180 to convert these files.
Again I thank you for your suggestions and taking the time to respond to my query.

  • Transfer windows media player music to itunes

I have downloaded all my music in Windows Media Player. I have been trying to import with out losing my music in WMP to itunes. Can anyone help with the steps to transfer or is the word import to itunes. Also, will this step increase the memory used on my hard drive.
    Thanks,
    denny1

You'll probably want to turn off Windows Media Player's options for updating media information from the internet or reorganising files based on tags. WMP will normally find files that you move manually or using other software but iTunes won't - move it and iTunes loses track of it.
Maintaining/moving your iTunes library is much easier if all the content is inside the *iTunes Media* folder so it might be worth considering placing your media files inside the iTunes Media folder before importing them into iTunes. This also ensures that iTunes won't try to make any copies (other than for .wma) during the import. If, like me, you are particular about how your files are organised (file & folder names longer than 35 characters as WMP would use etc.) then make sure the *Keep iTunes Media folder organised* option is turned off. WMP will find things you move. Also make sure iTunes rip format is set to mp3 so that anything you rip in iTunes is also available to WMP if you want.

  • How do I stop Windows Media Player importing my iTunes library? It's most annoying, aghhhh. Please someone help me.

Can anyone please help me work out how to stop my Windows Media Player grabbing all my iTune's music. (& is there any way of getting my old operating system back on my iPhone as I'm less than impressed with the new one)?

Asking on a Windows forum would be your better option...  http://forums.windowsforum.org/

  • I cannot import windows media player files into itunes.

Can anyone recommend a way to convert wm files so I can import into itunes?
    Thanks
    Alexi

You need to use a tool such as Switch on the Mac; iTunes on Windows will handle the conversion itself. The Windows version of iTunes won't convert protected WMA files, and no Mac software will.

  • How do I get music already on my laptop on (amazon, Emodio, Windows media player) into my itunes library, I have just done the icloud match as I thought this would do it for me, but the only songs on my phone are the 40 that I already had in itunes..

How do I get music already on my laptop into my itunes account library? I have just done the icloud match thinking this would pick them all up, but it hasn't, all it has done is match the 40 songs I already have in my itunes library. I wanted to get some more  music onto my iphone and I am stuck. If someone could assist, that would be great. Thanks. Sue

  • Converted songs from Windows Media Player to itunes show up in the library but will not play

I just installed itunes for the purpose of converting my Windows Media Player library to itunes.  I went through the install and added the music folder.  itunes went through the conversion process overnight and all of my songs appear in the music library.  However some songs will play properly and if you open them in windows explorer they are in a folder called my music/downloads and are mpeg files.  Other songs that are listed in the music library and appear to have been converted will not play.  When you click on these songs that won't play it appears to be playing in the progress bar on top, but no sound comes out and the EQ visualizer shows nothing.  When you open these songs in Windows explorer they are located in a folder: my music\i tunes\itunes media\music and they are a .AAC audio file type. What went wromg in this conversion process? Why is itunes putting these files in two different locations?  Why will these files not fully convert and play?

This is also what I suspected but why would the songs go through conversion, show up in the library, and then not play?  Apple support even says "itunes for Windows cannot import or play WMA files that are protectd."  Yet the imported song is sitting in the library and when you play it the song is listed and the diamond advances - but no sound.
Also, any tips on how to see if a WMA file is protected by DRM?
    Thank you for your response.
