    Dear Nay2000,
I have the same problem, my girl-friend saved a bigger Gigabyte library from her old laptop before she sold it, then at some point she realized that she couldn't play many songs that she had transfered. Now, I paid those 30 quid as well, and it doesn't play 99% of the files, that is very frustrating, is there any way you got it revived?

  • How to convert WMA files (from Windows Media Player) to play in iTunes

How do I convert WMA files (from Windows Media Player) to now play in iTunes?

Use Edit > Preferences > General tab > Import Settings to set your desired import format and bitrate. Note there is no point converting 128k wma into 320k mp3, you'll just get bigger files with no improvement in quality. Once you have set your import settings just drag & drop the files you want converted into iTunes.

    You're welcome.
I forgot to mention there's another good utility [All2MP3|http://download.cnet.com/All2MP3/3000-2140_4-190407.html] which is free, but only converts to mp3.

  • For iTunes experts! - My iTunes has been converting WMA files for 11 days!

My question is: If I exit iTunes (i.e. Reboot my computer) and then go back to iTunes, will iTunes continue finishing the conversion process?
My iTunes has been converting WMA files for 11 days now..
It's converting my entire multi-thousand album collection from windows media player into iTunes.
Will it start where it left off?
Or, the dreaded, will it start all over again, causing thousands of duplicates in my new iTunes library?
The ONLY status bar shows the current song, I have no idea which order it's going in or how much longer it has to go.
I understood it would take a long time to convert the thousands of WMA files into iTunes format, but I have no way to know how much longer it will take, or if it's interupted what will happen!
    Thanks -

Understood. If I quit iTunes before it's done converting the files I had previously selected, it will not continue to convert the WMA's to iTunes format. I will have to re-select the songs I want converted.
Now: What if I select the entire folder (containing all songs, some already converted into iTunes, others not yet converted) - will iTunes RE-Convert songs that it has already converted (therefore creating duplicates in my library)? Or is the software able to recognize that an identical entry is already in its library index?

drag converted mp3 files to i-tunes and then i can burn cds is that correct??

Correct. Dragging the MP3s into iTunes adds them to your iTunes library. Once they are in your library, you can add them to a playlist. When you have your playlist in the right sequence, click on File > Burn Playlist to Disc.

  • I need to find a way to convert .WMA files to .MP3 format on Lion

I need to find a way to convert .WMA files to .MP3 format; with Snow Leopard, I could do that using iTunes, but since upgrading to Lion, I can convert the files to a .mov format in Quick Time, but cannot move the file into iTunes in order to convert it to .MP3. If you can suggest a work-around or an app that will work with Lion, would be much appreciated.

Haven't used it myself, but worth a look http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27103/all2mp3

  • How to convert .caf files to WAV, MP3, WMA etc

I use QuickVoice free app on my ipad2 to record memos. I’ve just found out how to convert the files and play them on my Windows computer. First I used this program call QuickVoice Sync to copy my recording on my computer, used this link:
    www.nFinityInc.com/QuickVoiceSyncWin.exe   - for Windows
    www.nFinityInc.com/QuickVoiceSyncMac.zip   - for Mac users
to download QuickVoice Sync onto your computer. Open the program up and it firsts asks you to backup your files, which I did through iTunes and iCloud just incase. Then I clicked import, the program then searched for my recording and copy them into a new folder in my documents called QuickVoice. My recording in the folder were .caf files which I couldn't open in Windows so I used a program called Audacity. Use this link to download:
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
I downloaded the program and opened up one of my .caf files my clicking 'file', then 'open' in Audacity. When the files was opened I clicked 'file' again then clicked 'export' to convert my .caf file to WAV file for example. You can change the type of file my scrolling through the different types of files available by clicking the box next to 'save as type', I chose 'WAV (Microsoft) 16bit PCM' then click save. You can also change where you save the file by clicking another location before you click 'save'.
I can now play these files in Windows Media Player on my computer or playing them in my QuickVoice app on my ipad2.
Hope this helps, if there are any questions please ask and I will try to answer the best I can. I figured this out myself and I’m not a big pro in computers so I will do my best to answer any quires.

Try "Easy CAF Converter for Logic Pro" on the Mac App Store.
    According to an app description,
"The Easy CAF Converter for Logic Pro automatically converts Apple Loops installed with Logic Pro 9 and X to uncompressed audio formats (aiff and wave).
With the Easy CAF Converter for Logic Pro, musicians using other major DAWs (e.g., Cubase, ProTools, Ableton Live, and Studio One, etc.) can now easily use the rich set of apple loops of Logic Pro in their music productions."

Wait- I thought that MP3 files were smaller than WMA files? Is that not correct?
Nope, it's not correct and this is a common misunderstanding. For the same bit-rate MP3 and WMA have pretty much the same file size. What is different though is at lower bit-rates (around say 64 kbit/s) WMA seems to give better sound quality than a similar bit-rate MP3. Whereas at higher bit-rates (around say 92 kbit/s and higher) MP3 seems to give better sound quality than a similar bit-rate WMA. Some people will dispute this though, which is why it's always better to listen for yourself.
I do care about quality as long as it doesn't sound like I recorded it off the radio but for the most part I want to make sure that my files on my player aren't larger than they have to be--to open more space and also make the player work less hard therefore (I hope) extending the battery life. I suppose I could always blank my MP3 (Creative Jukebox Zen 2.0) and just start over and put in only the songs that I really really want and see if the battery life lasts longer but my main concern is doing all I can to make my playback time increase.
The number of files on the player DOES NOT affect the battery life, which is often another misconception. What does affect the battery life is the bit-rate of the files as you play them. You can see the difference from my battery curve thread, but it isn't as dramatic as you might think.
As before, make sure you create some test files and listen for yourself. Trust your own ears as to what sounds best to you.

  • ITunes converted wma files

    Hi all,
I have all my CD's ripped to an external hard drive in .wma form. I had to reinstall Windows recently due to an error, and have now re-downloaded iTunes, but have to re-convert all my music which takes a long time.
Once I convert all these .wma files to .mp3 this time, are they kept somewhere? I would like to replace the wma's with the converted mp3's if possible. Thanks!

can go to the iTunes folder, and copy and paste the converted MP3's to replace the WMA's?
Why do you need two copies of the files?
One in the iTunes music folder and one on the external?
If you want them backed up, simply copy the entire iTunes folder to the external drive.
You can do it thru Windows Exploder or use any backup program to do it automatically.

  • Converting .WMA files to .MP3???

Ok i have no idea where to put this question but here it goes.......hope it gets answered......or if someone can direct me.
Just as my subject header.........how do you do it? I tried to drag it into iTunes but it doesn't work........
    any help will do.
    Thanks

In a few cases, the file is internally the same format in a different wrapper. For instance, using a Windows Media codec but in an AVI wrapper rather than WMV. Or the player may play both formats and look internally at the file, rather than at the filename extension, to determine what codecs to use. In those cases, changing the filename extension might work.
But when you're trying to go from one codec to another, such as WMA to MP3, where the player won't handle the original format (and it matters not whether it's video or audio), then just changing the filename extension will not work. That's the case with iTunes; it won't play WMA files, period, and changing the filename extension won't change that. You must convert the WMA to something iTunes can play, and that takes other software such as the converters mentioned.

    Yan.

Filling in the Album Artist will fix things most of the time, though if you also have an older iPod then you might find the album splits up again on your device. For more information see my article on Grouping tracks into albums.
