  • Convert .WMV to MPEG-4

How can I convert .wmv clips to play on my iPhone? Can QT Pro do this? Thanks a lot.

The cheapest paid version is all you need to have to export from WMV to QT formats. Note if you have a few clips then MPEG Streamclip (free) will do them all in a batch as it uses the Flip4mac import component well. Faster encodes usually than QT on top of the handy batch processor and a a nice set of iTune capable device presets. Use 1.9b3 for the best selection of iTunes exports. It is totally stable.

  • Lost Sound after burning to iDVD

I have 53 minutes of marching bands that plays perfectly in iMovie. I chose the White Reflections theme in iDVD and the project works on the computer. After hours of transferring the DVD looks beautiful but there is no sound. The original sound is embedded in the HD formatted tape. I really need some suggestions since the Band Director is depending on this DVD.
    Thanks

    Welcome to discussions!
This is what Apple has to say regarding your problem:

Might want to be sure you have all of the iLife apps updated- ( ie QuickTime, iMovie, iDVD, etc.)

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region. I believe it's an Australian model.

  • No sound after burning

I've been searching this forum, and followed most, but still have this problem.
I'm attempting to burn a "purchased" playlist in Toast Lite. iTunes is set to audio cd . The disk is a Memorex CD-R. I drag the playlist to the Toast interface. All songs load and show they are now AIFF files. I hit the burn button and all goes well. Disk burns and says its finished. I eject and re-load for playback. Disk shows in itunes, with all songs present. But, alas when I hit Play, nothing! No sound. Seems I've tried every combination of burn, only to wast 5 or 6 CD's.
    Thanks for any help... anyone?

Only iTunes can burn audio CDs from music purchased from the iTMS. Since you're not running Tiger, which adds much better support for third-party optical drives, your best bet might be to try Patchburn (a Google search will lead you to the right place) in order to get your drive recognized by iTunes.

  • Video clip sound after burning

I use Adobe Premiere Elements 10, and I recently made a music video. I put a soundtrack to it. I turned the video clip sound all the way off and just let the soundtrack play over it, like a music video. I then burned it to a disk and played it on my DVD player. When it was playing, I noticed that the video clip sound and the soundtrack were both playingand over lapping each other. I burned several disks after turning every other sound off but the soundtrack, and still the video clip was playing over it. Please give me advice on how to fix it, as it would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.
First, I would play the Timeline with the Audio Mixer Panel open, and watch for the Levels of the other Video Tracks. You can also use that to Mute other Audio Tracks.
One can also Alt-click on the Audio portion of the Clip, and just Delete that.
Now, did you place your music onto the Fixed Soundtrack Audio Track? Some users have experienced problems with the two Fixed Tracks, Soundtrack and Narration, and the normal "fix" is to just drag the music (or narration) to an empty, "regular" Audio Track.
    Good luck,

  • Incorrect sound after burn

We have just bought Apple G5’s for our school, so students can video edit. So far there has been no problems. But lately a couple of machines have started burning another soundtrack onto the completed movie. The preview looks and sounds correct.
Several users use the same machines which I have read can be a problem, but as it is a school there is no way around this. I have looked for the /tmp/tempmovie file suggested in other posts and I cannot find the file if it is present?
Any other suggestions would be much appreciated, as the students need to complete this work soon so they can get a mark?
    Thanks

    Hi vaiman:
    Try it again like this:
*In the Finder, choose 'Go to Folder...' from the Go menu.
    *Enter /tmp and click OK.
*Find the file called tempmovie.mov and drag it to the trash.
*You'll be asked to enter your Mac's administrative password.
    *Enter it and click OK.

  • Convert WMV files to MPEG  and/or  get Quicktime plug-in for WMV and AVI

    Hi Apple experts,
I need to convert some WMV files to MPEG format or something that will play natively on a Mac in QuickTime or iTunes.
I was advised that the VLC app that will convert WMV to MPEG4?... but the page at the URL below indicates that this version of VLC is a player and does not say anything about converting WMV to MPEG...
    http://vlc-download.com/download-vlc/?gclid=COrY_NKghKYCFQN7gwoduQy4qA
I would like to convert WMV files to MPEG so they will play in QuickTime or in iTunes on a Mac by just double-clicking them... for family members with Macs like me.
I am working on a PC where I am right now, but I have Macs at home and at work. I am on a PC for the time being at a friends place and I've produced a few .wmv files in Windows Live Movie Maker 2011. (Sorry Steve, it's just for a test).
QuickTime will not play WMV files, nor AVI files, but it indicates that it can use a plug-in to do so, but the QuickTime webpage for plug-ins that it takes me to doesn't have any plug-ins for WMV or AVI format files.
Of course the Windows Media Player plays the WMV and AVI files, but is there also a way to make them play in QuickTime or iTunes besides converting them?
    Thanks so much,
    numetro

    Hi QTKirk,
I would like to be able to just give my family these files on a CD for high-res viewing on a computer, in addition to the DVDs that I have made for their TVs.
Since I don't control what they install on their computers, they don't necessarily have Flip4Mac on their Macs like I do... I just want them to be able to play MPEGs from a file on a CD or on their hard drives by simply double-clicking them.
After working with the recommended VLC player that also allegedly converts WMV files to MPEGs, for 8 hours, I have a result with the 7th attempt that mimics the worst kind of modern digital art that I've ever seen... I wish I could plug in the screenshot of the MPEG video that VLC produced... completely useless garbage.
Are there any other suggestions for a converter that simply handles converting WMV to any kind of MPEG file?
FFE was going to be the one that I tried until I read a post about VLC... that turned out to be a waste of 8 hours of sleepless time.

QuickTime cannot do this of iteslf: you need to add Flip4Mac:

  • Keynote to quicktime movie to iDVD, no sound on dvd

I know this has been asked a million times, however I (a relatively recent Mac convert) absolutely can't believe that Apple would not allow this to work.
I have a keynote slideshow with music. I "send to iDVD" as well as "export" into a quicktime movie. Resultant files are movie and soundtrack. I bring into iDVD. Sound plays in iDVD. Burn dvd from iDVD, no sound on dvd.
C'mon, the instructions are there, the menus are there. Apple can't expect us to "import into iMovie, match movie and soundtrack" or "burn using disk utility" or otherwise do anything other than take a keynote and make it in to a dvd.
Worst case, can I just burn a CD or DVD that automatically plays the keynote with sound and doesn't have the cool DVD Menu?
Again, sorry for the "same old question", however I have not found a fix that worked nor do I believe that Apple means for this to be so difficult.
For those experts out there that have seen this question before, I really have spent a significant amount of time researching the problem and haven't found a fix that worked or an official response from Apple.
    Thanks again.

I am not running this on an intranet, I am creating a video for my students and posting it to my Internet web page. So if I were to post the keynote file itself, 4/5 of my students would be unable to open it because they don't have Macs. Some do not even have desktop computers and view stuff on their smart phones. I solved the issue, at least partially, by saving the presentation as html and posting it to my site that way. It works but it is a bit buggy. Would still rather make it into a movie.

  • Importing Images into IDVD for Slidshow

I am at a loss as to what is the best image size, resolution size, etc. when it comes to importing images into IDVD. I usually size my prints
4 x 6 @ 300 dpi.. This looks fine in the slideshow preview. After I burn the dvd and view it, the images lose quality, etc..
    Any help would be appreciated

What you're creating in iPhoto is a movie file that will get cut off in iDVD because of the TV over scan issue. Only stills imported and assembled into a slideshow in iDVD can be scaled to avoid the over scan.
So to get what you want you'll have to import the stills into iDVD from iPhoto and create the slideshow there.
If you have Quicktime Pro you can mask the QT movie with a black mask and cause the iPhoto QT movie to be scaled to the TV safe area. The steps are below. You'll have to experiment with the final sizes to get it exact:
Masking Movies to the TV Safe Area for iDVD
The mask should be 640 x 480 pixels and the movie at approx. 580 x 386 (I arrived at this figure by making a snapshot of the TV save area of an iDVD project with Snapz). You can set this size after you’ve joined it with the mask movie with Quicktime Player Pro.
Import the black mask jpg file into iMovie and and export it as a .mov file at the same length as your movie (there may be a way to not have to create a specific length mask for each movie but I haven't found it. If the times do not match the movie file will be synced to the length of the mask movie).
Open the mask movie in QT Player Pro and then open your regular movie and make it the front window of the two. Now you'll need to run a QT Player AppleScript titled "Merge Movie 1 into Movie 2". You can get it from this Apple site: Quicktime Player Scripts.
Then run the script. You can then run the merged movie to check it out. Your movie will be located in the upper lefthand corner of the window when played.
When you open the Movie Properties window from the Window menu for the combined file you’ll see the following:
Video Track 1: the black mask
Video Track 2 : you movie file
Tween track: Have no idea what this is.
    Sound track: self explanaotry
    Black mask.
To set the size of your movie to the correct size select it in the Properties window and click on Visual Settings pane. Then enter 580 in the first field and hit enter. With the Preserve Aspect Ration box checked the other size will automatically be set.
To center the video track in the center of the mask select the Video Track 2 item and plug in a offset of about: 70 & 45. You'll probably have to play with that to fine tune the centering. Doing the math and subtracting the movie dimensions from the mask dimensions and dividing by two just didn't get it perfectly centered bit with a little eyeballing and trial and error it got there.
Now save as a new self contained movie after checking the High Quality box at the bottom right.
You can now import it into iDVD for preview and burning. One drawback is that you can't invoke the TV save area for a movie in iDVD to check it out. But you can mark it on the monitor screen while viewing a menu or slideshow and then play the movie to see how close you came. I found that the size was still a little under the TV safe area when burned and played on my TV. It may be the difference in normal CRT screens and flat screens, etc.

  • Horrible combing effect after burning from iDVD

This is very frustrating and I hope someone can help.
    First some quick background:
A relative recently had a box of old family movies converted burned onto a DVD but some of the footage played at half-speed as if in slow-motion. As a Christmas present I imported the clips onto my Mac for fixing. I sped some of the clips up using Final Cut Express. Then I brought everything into iMovie where I re-arranged the clips chronologically, adjusted brightness/contrast, created chapter markers, etc. Finally I brought it all into iDVD, created menus, and burned.
Everything looks great when I preview it in iDVD but once the actual disk is burned there is a horrible, ugly "combing" effect that appears off and on during playback. It's not constant, it appears and disappears randomly, but when it happens its horrible! It happens regardless of whether I play the DVD on my computer or on an old-school CRT TV. However, when I preview it in iDVD there is no combing, everything is clean and smooth.
I've done some googling and searched the forums but so far no luck finding a solution. I tried zapping the PRAM but it didn't help. When I play the raw file in user/Movies/iMovie Projects it also has no combing so I assume the problem is somewhere in iDVD.
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated!

DVDs are interlaced devices. Your old movies were captured with an interlaced device. That means areas of your video with rapid movement will have interlacing artifacts. They will show up on any viewing device that doesn't deinterlace (drop every other line). Previewing in iMovie and iDVD is in effect deinterlaced.
So that makes me think there's something not right in the iDVD burning process.
Nothing in creating and burning a DVD with iDVD will give you such combing. MPG-2 encoding can certainly give you 'blotchy' areas, but not combing.
You might want to look at JES Deinterlacer to deinterlace the problem areas of your video.

  • Only half of the video clips have sound after import to Premiere Pro

    Hi!
When I import my .MTS fukes into Premiere Pro 2014 longer clips loose sound after half the clip. The clips themselves have sound because they are with sound when I watch them using VLC.
How can this sound issue be solved?

    Thanks for the screenshot.
Hmm. I don't recall any other reports of a problem like this with MTS files. [Just today I was working on a similar issue with P2 content, but it was limited to spanned clips. Hence that question...]
First thing I'd try is to clear the media cache files, at least for the affected clips. You should find those files here: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\. If not there, then check Preferences>Media.

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

regarding to my database a .trp file is an HDTV video file from some Korean videocard for PCs..
sounds to me a il' too exotic for Mac usage..
ANY import for iDVD should be 'dv-stream'/NTSC/PAL .. or AIC... but any HiDef gets automatically converted to SD resolution, since iDVD creates SD-dvd only ...
