Converting .wmv to .mpg

what is the best way to convert .wmv to .mpg?

Kerrie
Have you tried http://www.flip4mac.com/
it seems to be the best way to convert the .wmv format to the .mpg.
This program allows you to play existing .wmv encoded vids in QT 7. To change over to .mpg just export to the new format. Anyway hope it helps

  • Convert WMV and MPG to play on Mac

    Hi all,
New to the Mac so probably a simple question.
I have two videos on my Mac that came across from my old PC. One is in WMV format, the other is MPG. Neither are able to be played.
The WMV file shows as a blank page icon while the MPG file shows as a MPG icon. When I try to open either a message appears saying that the file is not a movie file. If I go into the info page for either they show as being a full size file, both being about 100MB in size.
These files work fine on the PC using Windows Media Player.
I have tried downloading Flip4Mac but the files still wont open. The Mac just doesnt seem to recognise that they are video files.
Is there any way that I can get these files to work?
    Cheers

    Thanks for the replies.
All I want at the moment is to play these two files, though I would like to combine them into a movie at some stage.
I dont want to have to buy a program to convert these files as they are the only two that dont work on my Mac, everything else seems to work fine.
flip4mac is in my applications folder, in fact its on my dock as well. When I open the icon (called WMV on the dock) it opens Quicktime Player but it still wont recognise these two files. I keep getting a message saying that they arent movie files.
Ill try downloading VLC to see if that will work.
    Any other ideas?
    Cheers
edit: I downloaded VLC and it plays both videos! Thanks a lot for the advice. Now I just have to figure out how to get them working in iMovie.

  • Best App to covert .wmv to .mpg

I was wondering what is the best App out there to convert .wmv to .mpg.
I have Flip4Mac but I want to actually convert the file.
    Thanks

Some other 4 or 5 star forum user just told me easywmv does not do wmv conversion...don't know what's up with that, but F4M does work...however, only for the paid version. If you can find an old copy of Visual Hub, that would do it, but it's recently been abandoned.

  • Convert flash QT.mov to WMV or MPG

    Please help!
Does anyone know the simplest way to convert a flash
animation Quicktime movie to WMV or MPG?
This is a rush, I'm working under deadline. Originally, I was
    told QT.mov was acceptable format.
Now, I'm being told that their server can only handle WMV or
MPG. When they tried to convert the
QT file it was converted without the audio track. I've tried
to download serveral of the free shareware converters -- no luck.
(either corrupted or some glitch occurs or company logo is
    embedded in converted file).
I know AE (AfterEffects) to some degree and I believe I can
export to WMV of MPG there. But this is a huge file,
trying to download it now at a cybercafe with two T1 lines --
    still it's "watching paint dry".
    Please anybody, any suggestions, please.
    Thank you.

I think the simpliest way converting flash into video - use
    Flash To Video
    Encoder.

  • Importing QuickTime, WMV, and MPG movies

Is it possible to import QuickTime, WMV, or MPG movies into
Captivate? Or can Captivate only import FLV movies.

    Hi again
I've personally not encountered a need for converting.
However, on her blog, Silke Fleischer (Former Adobe Captivate
Product Manager) talks about a converter that may be recommended.
It's called SoThink Video Converter and you may examine or order it
    by visiting the site.

go out and gather together all players you can run on Lion:
MpegstreamClip, with QuickTime pro as the engine you can open and export just about anything.
Flip4Mac, buy it and you can convert and export to wmv. Usefull if you must have wmvs in PowerPoint.
    Perian
    VLC
    Divx for Mac

  • Convert WMV files to MPEG  and/or  get Quicktime plug-in for WMV and AVI

    Hi Apple experts,
I need to convert some WMV files to MPEG format or something that will play natively on a Mac in QuickTime or iTunes.
I was advised that the VLC app that will convert WMV to MPEG4?... but the page at the URL below indicates that this version of VLC is a player and does not say anything about converting WMV to MPEG...
    http://vlc-download.com/download-vlc/?gclid=COrY_NKghKYCFQN7gwoduQy4qA
I would like to convert WMV files to MPEG so they will play in QuickTime or in iTunes on a Mac by just double-clicking them... for family members with Macs like me.
I am working on a PC where I am right now, but I have Macs at home and at work. I am on a PC for the time being at a friends place and I've produced a few .wmv files in Windows Live Movie Maker 2011. (Sorry Steve, it's just for a test).
QuickTime will not play WMV files, nor AVI files, but it indicates that it can use a plug-in to do so, but the QuickTime webpage for plug-ins that it takes me to doesn't have any plug-ins for WMV or AVI format files.
Of course the Windows Media Player plays the WMV and AVI files, but is there also a way to make them play in QuickTime or iTunes besides converting them?
    Thanks so much,
    numetro

    Hi QTKirk,
I would like to be able to just give my family these files on a CD for high-res viewing on a computer, in addition to the DVDs that I have made for their TVs.
Since I don't control what they install on their computers, they don't necessarily have Flip4Mac on their Macs like I do... I just want them to be able to play MPEGs from a file on a CD or on their hard drives by simply double-clicking them.
After working with the recommended VLC player that also allegedly converts WMV files to MPEGs, for 8 hours, I have a result with the 7th attempt that mimics the worst kind of modern digital art that I've ever seen... I wish I could plug in the screenshot of the MPEG video that VLC produced... completely useless garbage.
Are there any other suggestions for a converter that simply handles converting WMV to any kind of MPEG file?
FFE was going to be the one that I tried until I read a post about VLC... that turned out to be a waste of 8 hours of sleepless time.

  • Converted .wmv to .mov will no longer play in quicktime

I have converted .wmv to .mov using the quicktime 7.6.4 save as feature and saved them to an external WD hard drive. They have been playing fine for months until yesterday, now i have a black quicktime screen, no sound or audio as the file plays, all that I have changed recently is that i have updated Flip4mac from 2.3.3.2 to 2.3.3.3 and updated Safari to version 4.1. I have run an Onyx maintenance scrypt and disc utility to try a repair a possible permissions or disc error, still no luck. I read an article on the Flip4mac site that suggested I export the file in quicktime, this has not worked. When viewing the files info it states the files codecs are windows media audio 9 standard*, windows media video 9 standard". After reading some other posts I installed Perian, but still no luck. If anyone can help to get these movie files operational again please advise.

I got an answer on the macformat forum that works, refer the attached link

  • Is there a way to convert .wmv's to .gif's with Photoshop Elements 10?

Is there a way to convert .wmv's to .gif's with Photoshop Elements 10?  If not, will an up upgrade to version 12 include something that will do this?

I have done it manually, and it takes a long time just for 1 patch.
Just the sample editing and naming takes hours!
    Autosampler automates this process.
You can define how many velocity levels you need.
If a midi CC changes the sound in an interesting way, you can have Autosampler send the controller in increments and sample that.
At the end of it, you end up with a finished EXS instrument.

  • How do I convert wmv to mov files for fcp?

I have tried a couple of different conversion programs to convert a wmv file to mov or mp4, and all seem to result in a viewable mp4, but when I import into final cut and try to put the footage into my sequence, it won't render. • How to converting WMV files?

How to converting WMV files from PC to iPod playable files? thanks for all your help

I just found this tip on allexperts.com...
I'm on a windows box at work, so I cant verify the accuracy.
I have one at home...name escapes me right now...icon is a blue square with 5 black dots (like on a die). It converts audio formats, video formats, extracts audio from video, and will batch process.
Maybe someone will recognize the desciption and be able to name it.

    heres one on apples site:

    =======
Tunes will convert wma to mp3 (or acc) format. Here are the instructions:
To convert a song's file format:
Choose iTunes > Preferences, then click the Advanced button at the top of the window and click Importing.
From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.
Select one or more songs in your library, then choose Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3, Convert Selection to AAC, Convert Selection to Apple Lossless, Convert Selection to AIFF, or Convert Selection to WAV. (The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences.)
To convert all the songs in a folder or on a disk, hold down the Option key and choose Advanced > "Convert Selection to," then choose the folder or disk containing the songs you want to convert. All the songs in the folder or on the disk will be converted except songs you purchased from the iTunes Store. (Purchased songs are encoded using a protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted.)

  • What program to convert wmv to DVD video?

I thought I could use idvd but turns out it's only avi...So what's the best way to do this?
Also how do you merge short clips together so they'll play right after the other instead of going to the menu every time and choosing what you want?
    Thanks

You need Flip4Mac Player Pro (or higher) to convert WMV files to QuickTime so you can use them in iMovie or iDVD.
So, the simple answer is WMV video -> Flip4Mac Player Pro -> QuickTime video -> iDVD, iMovie, Final Cut, QTPro, etc.
You will have to use iMovie or Final Cut to assemble clips together. When finished, export to iDVD.

  • How do you convert WMV files to either .mov or mpeg4?

    Hi,
I just wanted to know how you convert WMV file to either .mov or mpeg 4. I can't seem to find any software that will do it.

You can use the Quicktime plugin from Flip4Mac to get QT to understand/read WMV files.

  • Converting WMV files to QuickTime  and file size

I have QT Pro and I have no problem doing a "save as..." for converting WMV files to .mov. I also have Flip4Mac converting the file to be viewed in QT first.
My question is that if I do a straight-ahead "save as..." it'll make the file's size about 25% larger. If I try to do "export" with default settings it takes far longer and I have an even larger file. I've also tried playing with different compression in QT to save these files and haven't come up with anything that works better. Is there a way to manage the file size so it's the same or smaller, not bigger?
    Thanks in advance all!

File size is dicated by the bitrate of the file. From my review of (thousands) of WMV files there appears to be some compression in the WMV format that is not reapplied when save as to a MOV container is performed. You can see in get info the WMV file say 100MB has maybe 125-150MB of data when it is fully loaded in Quicktime.
Thus save as does not apply the WMV compression the same as native WMV is all I can assume and the new QT file (MOV container) is bigger than the source file is.
Exporting to any new QT format (say H264) is going to make a file that is dependent on the new QT bitrate you select but if it is higher than the bitrate shown in the Get Info Inspector box when the original WMV has been opened it will be bigger without a doubt. So if you have a 3Mb/sec WMV file that you export to 700 kb/sec for iPod basic it should be 1/4 of the size. Use 5Mb/sec fo Apple TV it should be 2/3 larger.
I rarely use QT Pro to export and when I do I don't use default settings. I prefer MPEG Streamclip which offers easier control of variables, batch file processing, deinterlacing and other things and it is free.
