Converting Word TOC

I am importing a word file with its TOC in RH 7.
The file and the TOC are correctly imported.
In the TOC (in the compiled project), when I click on a book
(where no topic should be linked), the previous topic in the TOC
opens. RH automatically links the book with the previous topic. It
would be OK if it were the next topic in the TOC but the
previous...
Any idea ?
Thank you very much

I am using Acrobat 8 Professional.  Please Help!  I've spent a long time on this document and upon conversion, it is not working properly.

  • Problem converting Word document with TOC table

    Hello,
I am using MsWord 2003 and Acrobat 9 in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits.
I have created the manual using Word, I set Heading (s) with 3 levels deep and created TOC in Word.
It looks as designed. There are Titles, Subtitles and Subtiles (3rd level).
TOC in Word works fine. No problem.
In PDFMaker options under Bookmarks tab I set TOC 1 with 3 levels.
However, after converting the whole document into PDF, the Bookmarks look very strange.
They contain only Titles (no subtitles at all), each bookmark line ends with some number 3, 4 or 5 which I do not have idea what are they and those bollmarks point to the TOC page not to the page they should have.
What is wrong and how can I correct that?
    Thanks,
    jas

I have read many of posts having similiar problems and tried all the suggestions posted.
    I tried:
    1.
Reinstalling Adobe (removing all the related files), although I did not have any previous versions (and installations) of Acrobat in this computer.
    2.
In Adobe PDFMaker  uncheck 'Enable Accessibility and...' option
    3.
    Setting printer to Adobe PDF
    4.
In Word > TOC settings I checked the 'Use hyperlinks instead of page numbers' option
Also I tried In Adobe PDFMaker not use TOC but to use 'Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks'
The result was horrible. Double bookmarks, reversed Level 1 with Level 2 positions and lots of empty bookmarks (I believe created by empty rows in pages tables).
Please note, that using the same Headings Word creates TOC without any problems!
The only plus side was that some of those bookmarks came with correct links.
Those bokkmarks were created using 'New Bookmarks from structure' option in Acrobat (after converting the document)
    /jas

    This is ridiculous!
I think it is time for Adobe to admit there is a problem creating bookmarks in Acrobat, regardless the used version.
Today I spent all day trying different combinations.
In addition to my post above I installed and tested the same document in Acrobat Prof ver.8 and Acrobat X.
The installation was virgin (no previous Adobe was installed).
Same for MS Office. Virgin installation of ver. 2003 and 2007
My document I copied and pasted in blank new Word document.
Also I tried under Windows XP
All that does not make any difference.
The final result was always the same, as shown graphically in above post.
    Any ideas?
What I do not understand, how such big corporation allows bugs like that.
Convertning TOC (nice working in Word) cannot be a rocket science!
If Word can create TOC from Headings flawlessly, why not Adobe?
That TOC is correctly converted as TOC page in pdf document.
Maybe Adobe should add the option to create bookmarks directly from it after the conversion?!
As I said, it is not a rocket science.
    Onus is on you, Adobe!

  • Converting Word 2003 doc w/TOC references to w/Acrobat 8

I have a large Word doc that have markings to sections in the document to automatically generate a table of contents (TOC).  In the Word TOC, if you select a reference Word automatically takes you to that section where the marking is.  However, when I convert this document to PDF, the TOC references direct you to the page where the information is, but not to the marked section.  Is there some setting that I need to change to correct this problem?

I am using Acrobat 8 Professional.  Please Help!  I've spent a long time on this document and upon conversion, it is not working properly.

  • Convert word 2010 TOC to pdf without numbering and hyperlink errors

I made an automatic TOC (Table of Contents) for my Manual of procedures using the automatic creation under the Reference tab-create a table of contents. It looks great in word. I made sure the hyperlink is clicked in word as well. When I convert this document to pdf using adobe acrobat XI, the numbering of the TOC just changes to incorrect numbering. And the hyperlinks work only for a few initial pages only. I have 22 pages. Once converted, the TOC shows that I only have 16 pages and the linking is incorrect. How can I convert this and keep the numbering correct and also allow for the hyperlinks in the pdf document? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I bought this product (Adobe XI pro) for the same purpose. After waisting many hours and digging through google and Adobe community, I learned it doesn't work, at least not for Mac. I HATE ADOBE!!!! GIVE MY MONEY BACK!
This is a 15-20 year od bug in Acrobat. That Adobe refuse to fix. In this case they blame MS Office claiming they don't have the "proper hooks" for web Links. But it’s a red herring. The Mac Version of Office has the same exact hooks as the PC version. You can take a Mac version of the word file. Unopened on a PC and Drop on AcrobatPC and the links will appear. This has been proven by MS MVP's and employees. The defect is squarely with Acrobat and acrobat alone.
You can have weblinks as long as they have been created with Office Auto-correct feature both http: 's and mailto: 's.  Go to Print menu > hold down PDF key until context menu apppears. Next choose adobe PDF. Now when first screen appears choose quality of PDF and whether to have Acrobat or reader Open immediately.   Click okay. Next screen  browse to desired save location. And you can alter the name. Click save. Tou links will appear and will be active.
Another way which is easier  for one or two page PDF's:
Save word file in .docx format.
Now Dragthe file from save location and Drop on top of the Acrobat icon in the Dock.
Wait for a few minutes while file is processed (it like using Distiller) You might be able to dring a couple of cups of tea or coffee while waiting.
The the PDF will suddenly appear
    Save immediately.
Now any links created by autocorrect will appear and be active.
Both of these two methods only started working in Acrobat X, and XI so someone finally figured partially how to fix the 15 year old Problem

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard MS Word TOC

    MS Office Word 2007
I Have created documents with a TOC.
The document headings are linked to the TOC for point and click functionality
After converting to PDF with Adobe 9 Standard I do have bookmarks but no TOC links.
I can create links manually from the TOC by highlighting and then creating the link in Adobe.
This is a painfully manual process for a large document. How can this be done through the application.
I have worked with all of the settings and cannot get this to work, so that the Adobe document TOC will have point and click functionality.

After trying out various options suggested in this forum, I have found another solution for Word TOC links in PDF.
    My environment is as follows:
    Windows Vista
    Acrobat 9.0
    Word 2007
    Solution:
    Open the Word document.
Place the mouse cursor at the beginning of the TOC field.
Right-click and choose Edit Field from the shortcut menu.
Click Table of Contents to open the Table of Contents dialog.
Select the Show page numbers checkbox.
Select the Use hyperlinks instead of page numbers checkbox.
Note: While the preview on the dialog removes the page numbers, they are not removed from your TOC page.
    Click OK.
In the Word document, hover your mouse over a TOC entry. You will notice that the entire string (and not just the page number) is now hyperlinked.
Generate the PDF and verify if the TOC links work.

  • Word TOC Links are shifting

This is a new one for me.  I am using Word 2003 and Acrobat 8.1.3.
I have a 500 page Word document that is a Master Document containing 13 subdocuments.  When I PDF it using PDFMaker, all of the TOC entries are hyperlinked, but this is where it gets strange.  Up until around page 113, the hyperlinks work perfectly.  After that, they start to shift so that when you click on an entry that should jump to the top of page 114, it jumps to the middle of page 115.  It continues to get worse from there, so by the end of the document, the link jumps to a point about 7 pages beyond the point it should.
If you use Ctrl + Click in Word, the entries are all fine, so it appears to be something that is happening during the conversion.
Has anyone seen anything like this before?
    Thanks.
    Rob

    Hello everyone,
I am facing the very same problem (Word TOC links are shifting in the PDF file, the longer the file, the greater the shift - first only by one page and then growing up to a shift of 4-5 pages with a 150p document). Xrefs and other links within the file are not affected, only the TOC.
I use Adobe Standard 8.1.6 (only updated from 8.1.1 yesterday, installing the updates chronologically). Word is 2003 with XP (SP3).
I have gone over the Acrobat settings a zillion times, everything is as it used to be about six months ago when PDFing was still working fine.
Also I followed all sorts of advice such as eliminating any Standard.dots on the machine but one, setting to the Adobe PDF printer before updating the TOC, tags are off, reflow is off, a.s.o.
Yesterday, a closer look at the TOC links using the Acrobat link tool revealed that the links on the page numbers work just fine, only the links on the paragraph titles and paragraph numbers are off target. Created in one and the same PDF and from one and the same Word file.
I cannot remember when the problem started because I mostly tested the links in the TOC from the page numbers and not from the titles... So I may have published many PDF files with this error. What I do remember is that a couple of months ago, when Acrobat converted its first Word file of the day, it started to convert and then broke off without displaying any message. Starting the conversion again produced the PDF file. This is the only change I ever noticed and it persists until today.
Funny thing is, I have another identical Acrobat installation on a different PC which was installed at the same time but is not used very much and is not connected to the network. It has not been updated from 8.1.1 and everything works fine on that machine. Acrobat (or Word?) do not "misbehave".
Anyway, so far I sat here for hours changing the incorrect links (the PC with the correct Acrobat outcome is not available to me all the time) using the link tool and today I found a solution which is considerably faster and less cumbersome: I simply delete all the links on the text and the paragraph numbers and then drag the left border of the page number link boxes all the way across the text and the paragraph numbers to the left. The TOC then has links that cover the entire line, saving the trouble of editing each one of them.
It's nothing but a workaround and does not solve the problem but I thought I'd share...

  • Convert Word doc to PDF

I need assistance on this issue:
    "Enter Description of Issue:
We are trying to implement a solution to automatically convert Word documents generated by Siebel to PDF's in order to mail them to customers.
I see from other support requests you advice to find 3rd part software to do this. Can you tell me if you know of any 3rd party software that another Siebel customer has been able to use to do this?
We wish to call this software fom script or workflow so that the converted document can then be attached back into siebel and mailed to a customer.
I understand the principle of how we can get documents from the file system and then using com or a command line call an application that will do the conversion, but as yet we have not found a good 3rd party software to do the conversion."
So far, I suggest one Enhancement Request(12-161Y57N) to customer but seems is not enough.
The last update from customer side, was:
"Is it possible to just give me a plain answer to my main question.
Do you know of any other customers who have similar functionality and do you know what application they sed to do the conversion? "
Do you have any idea on regards on PDF converter?

    Hi,
Can we convert the word doc to PDF using PI intarface.
I think it is not possible convert the word doc to PDF. Since they are Proprietary  format of Microsoft and Adobe respectively
my source system sends a doc file & I have to convert it into a PDF doc and then further I have to sent it to target,
You might have to convert the word document to PDF using available software and then send to target system
You might have to develop some module program to convert.
There is one similar blog which explains conversion from XML to PDF. It might help you

  • Not able to convert word file to PDF using Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard

    Hi,
I am not able to convert word file to PDF using Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard. When I try to convert, it starts the process and in between I am getting this prompt, as shown in figure below and the conversion process stops. The PDF is not created.
Note: The filename 'Acr85.doc' in the above prompt keeps changing and is random.
I tried clicking Yes, No and Cancel on the above prompt, but the conversion process just stops and PDF is not getting generated.
I am able to create PDFs from web pages. No issues with that. Not working only with Word.
Can someone help me with this.
    Thanks,

  • Acrobat 11 Standard Office 2010 Pro Convert Word documents to PDF not working

    Adobe community,
I can create PDF's inside Word 2010 using the Acrobat Add-in but right clicking a Word document or dragging a Word document into Adobe Acrobat 11 Standard does not work. I have updated both Acrobat 11 and Office 2010 with the latest updates available. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi markl16215442,
In order to convert word document to PDF by right-clicking or dragging the file, you must have Adobe PDF printer installed.
For Windows, please check that Adobe PDF is set as default printer under "Start > Devices and Printers"
While for MAC, Adobe PDF printer option is no more available and as it was removed with some changes in Apple's policy regarding virtual printers.
So, check with your OS and then let me know.

  • Adobe acrobat 9 pro does not convert word to pdf

According to Compatible web browsers and PDFMaker applications, Acrobat 9 is not compatible with Office 2010.

  • Acrobat XI Pro successfully installed, but it failed in converting word files into PDF, why?

I just installed Adobe XI Pro through the download assistant, it looks the installation went well, but when I tried to convert word files into PDF (tried many times), it failed. Anyone has the same problems, any solutions?

Please reply with more information - what your operating system is, do you have Office installed, and what exactly is happening. Is there an error message, does the application crash, and from where are you starting the conversion (using Word and PDFMaker, using Acrobat's Create button, or batch processing).

  • Page numbers in Word TOC not correct; have to open doc and update

I'm using RoboHelp HTML 9 and Word 2010.
I generate a Word doc (.docx) as one of my outputs. The Word TOC works -- that is, if I Ctrl-Click one of the items in the TOC, I'm taken to that item.
A user just came up to me asking why the page numbers are off. Here's what I see.
I use SSL to generate the Word doc.
In the TOC, I look for the topic "Setting Up Comments." It's listed as being on page 30.
I Ctrl-Click that TOC item and it takes me to the topic, but when I look at the footer, it says this is page 28.
If I go back to the TOC, right-click, and choose "Update page numbers only", Word updates the TOC, which now shows the correct page number, page 28.
In other words, generating my printed doc is now a multi-step process:
Use SSL to generate the Word doc.
Open the Word doc and update the TOC.
    Save the Word doc.
Shouldn't the TOC be right the first time around? Am I forgetting to do something?

Your example was not the best, many chapters have such a topic. However, I am seeing issues there.
In another project I am finding the page numbers correct so I will need to do some more digging.
Meantime, given the problem can be recreated using the sample, you should report it as a bug.
