Convertion time with quick time pro

I have a couple of snowboarding films that I have tried to convert to play on my ipod video. The problem is that one of the videos, about 300 megs took about 30 hours to convert and when played on my Ipod has no sound. I am trying to convert another one and its at 34% 16 hours in. Is there any way that this process can be expidited with either a change in settings for quicktime pro or use of another program?
HELP?

The problem is that one of the videos, about 300 megs took about 30 hours to convert and when played on my Ipod has no sound.
With regard to the "no sound" problem, as has been pointed out numerous times already, the QT Pro application is A/V multi-track based. That is, it is designed to work with movies in which there are separate audio and separate video streams of data. If you check, you will like find that your source movie is probably some form of "muxed" (MPEG1, MPEG2, VOB, some AVI, AVI MJPEG, etc) format in which bocks of audio and video are intersperced in a single stream of data. (I guess another way of saying this is to describe QT and QT-like applications as "frame" based while muxed files are "packet" based for the purpose of sychronizing audio and video information.) When converting muxed file types it is best to use an MPEG based application like Videora iPod Converter (free) or Video Vault to Apple iPod Converter ($$) Windows only applications.
Is there any way that this process can be expidited with either a change in settings for quicktime pro or use of another program?
Yes, both alternatives are viable. If you are using the dedicated QT Pro "Movie to iPod (320x240" export option, you can halve you time by merely switching to the ""Movie to MPEG4" QT Pro export option and using the Baseline H.264 codec in the single pass mode. Further, if you switch to the MPEG4 code, you can cut the single pass H.264 conversion times in half (or a quarter in single pass MPEG4).
However, I cannot urge you stronly enough to have more than a signle work flow for these conversions. Different converters use different strategies and sooner or later you are bound to come across a movie whose content simply refuses to convert using one program or another. Sometimes the problem can be fixed by simply modifying your "normal" settings. At other times it is simplier to just "switch" to another program with a "tighter" conversion strategy or that employs a faster "response" algoithm.
Hope this helps...

    Screen recording is part of QuickTime X, not QuickTime Pro. QuickTime X is only available for Macs.

    Try deleting the .plists.
    Application corruption problems: You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~`/Library. Delete the .plist(s) for the application.
    If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.

  • Recent playback issues with Quick Time for Windows

    Hi there. I recently started having choppy playback in Quick Time of
    .mov files composed of some footage shot on Sony XDCAM EX. Since I do not have the Sony codec on my PC, I had these .mov files converted to QT files with the H.264 codec by editors who use Final Cut Pro. They play badly, and now, so do all other mov. and MP-4 files for which I always used Quick Time.
    Currenlty have QT 7.62.
    Would Quick Time Pro 7 be the answer for a return to normal, fluid playback???
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Keith

    It wouldn't make a difference the pro version doesn't enhance the ability of what you can play or how good it plays. It just gives added feature's like being able to convert a .mov to .avi or save a file off a website.

  • Problem with quick time player or is it normal ?

    Hello, I want to know why, since the transition to OS X Mavericks I need to convert all videos to AVI format instead of being able to look directly as before with OS X Mountain Lion I converted the Quick Time MOV format which takes up much more space on the HDD I have another drive where I can read directly, but I want to know why I need to convert with QuickTime
    Thanks

    I want to know why, since the transition to OS X Mavericks I need to convert all videos to AVI format instead of being able to look directly as before with OS X Mountain Lion I converted the Quick Time MOV format which takes up much more space on the HDD I have another drive where I can read directly, but I want to know why I need to convert with QuickTime
    To answer your topic title question, if QT X v10.3 is converting your files to AVI, then that would not be normal. In most cases it is the other way around. That is, QT X v10.3 converts most forms of AVI content to QT compatible compression formats in MOV file containers. While QT X v10.3 still recognizes the AVI container, on a few compression formats (like Motion JPEG video and various PCM formats) will play natively without conversion under the Mavericks' AV Foundation.
    Basically, QT X under mavericks looks at the file container and the codecs it contains and, if the AV Foundation recognizes them but does not consider the combination compatible, begins an automatic conversion depending on programming specifics. In some cases only the audio or video data will trigger the conversion process and be conveerted and merely "pass through" another compression format while in other files both the audio and the video will both be converted. Unfortunately, even some of the codecs normally native to the Mac OS are also no longer supported. For instance, Mavericks now includes an Apple ProRes 422 codec component which appears to have replaced the Apple Intermediat Codec as the default "incermediate" compression format fore file editing. Mavericks also does not seem to support the Animation, PNG, or DV stream video codecs any longer.
    If you don't like the way QT X v10.3 works, you have two basic options. The first to to use a different media player (e.g., QT 7, VLC, MPlayerX, MPEG Streamclip, etc.) to view your content or you can opt to manually convert your content to a compression format and container that remains QT X player compatible under Mavericks.

  • Hello. I have some .mov files that I am able to open with Quick time on my pc but not on my mac. I even tried downloading quick time 7 but still no progress. Is there anything else I can do?

    I can not open my.mov files on my mac. I would like too. I use to b able to look at them but for some reason i can not. I tried downloading quick time 7 but i have had no luck. Is there a way for me to open them? I just finished updating my system software so maybe that had something to do with it? Please help.

    drrbr1,
    Mavericks changed how media was handled on OS X. Apple moved away from the old Quicktime frameworks (that were started in the 80's IIRC). Now the OS uses AVFramework. It is why Quicktime X (QTX) & Quicktime 7 (QT7) can play different formats.
    QT7 used a series of codec plugins (encoder/ decoder) to add support for formats that Apple never supported (like DIVX, WMV, Ogg audio etc). Many users installed plugins like Perian to add these codecs via a simple installer. Perian may still work on QT7 apps, I haven't tested Perian on 10.10. Perian is clearly out of date & abandoned now, see perian.org or see the site of the old codec.
    AVFoundation & QTX has no ability to add extra codecs - you get support because the format is correct for AVFoundation to play, you get a dialog that converts the movie or the third option is that AVFoundation can't convert & simply chokes & doesn't allow playback.
    Apple have nothing to fix. The reason the movies don't play is because the new framework uses 64bit for everything. The older codecs are not 64bit & since Apple didn't write those codecs they won't fix them either. It may seem like I'm apologising for Apple, but it isn't entirely their fault, things move on.
    I'm afraid you need to work out what codecs you have contained in the files (.mov is just a wrapper around the data - the codec is the key to reading the data). mediainfo can help with that
    https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
    It will list the details of the codecs - from there you need to find an app that will convert to a supported format.
    It sounds like you have a sound format that is not compatible with AVFoundation - that means all apps the rely on AVfoundataion no longer play those files (Finder & iMovie use AVFoundataion).

    Hi Sansony,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    I understand you would like to record audio from the headphones you connected to your computer. When recording audio with QuickTime Player, you can choose to use the built-in microphone, an external microphone you’ve connected, or a microphone from a connected Apple display. Please use the following article as a reference.
    Mac Basics: QuickTime Player creates, plays, edits, and shares video and audio files
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4024
    Clicking the triangle icon gives you additional options, such as letting you choose whether to use the built-in microphone on your Mac, an external microphone you've connected to your Mac, a microphone from a connected Apple display, or the option to simply use no microphone at all. The triangle also allows you to adjust the finished quality of your screen recording, select whether or not your mouse clicks are shown during the recording (the pointer is highlighted when you click), and to select what location (on your Mac) to save your screen recording when finished.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • File download interferes with Quick Time

    Usually, when I download from a website a popup window appears with the option to open, run, and cancel. The title of the window is “File Download – Security Warning”.
    After installing Quick Time, when I try to download from any website, the quick time window appears instead of the Utility window by the WINDOW operating system.I would prefer the Window utility to popup, is there any way I can install quick time in such a way so that quick time window does not pop up for file download.

    Hi,
    A tiff file is a picture file. FInd a tiff file on your computer and clik it with the right mouse button. From the list choose the option "open with". You wuill get a few option on which to open the file with, choose something like "Paint" and make sure to select the thick box to always use this program to open these files. From Paint you should have no problem printing.

  • How do you change a playlist with Quick Time

    This is my first posting on this message board.
    I am an amateur web designer and I am having trouble figuring out how to change the playlist in an embedded Quick Time player using javascript.
    I can do this easily with Windows Media Player using code like this:
    document.getElementId("mediaPlayer").URL = selectedPlaylist
    Since mac users can't view Windows playlists, I would like to provide a Quick Time option. I just can't figure out the Quicktime parameter to change the src....
    my failed code is below. it is a radio button which selects either a Windows (.asx) or a Quicktime/RealPlayer (.smil) playlist and attempts to play it on an embeded Quick Time player:
    <html>
    <head>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function check(selected)
    document.getElementById("quicktimePlayer").src = selected
    </script>
    </head>
    Choose your media player
    <form>
    <input type="radio" name="chk" checked onclick="check(this.value)" value="playlist.smil">Windows Media Player
    <input type="radio" name="chk" onclick="check(this.value)" value="playlist.asx">Quick Time Player
    </form>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    document.write('<object id "quicktimePlayer" classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" codebase="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" height="16" width="250">');
    document.write('<param name="src" value="">');
    document.write('<param name="autoplay" value="true">');
    document.write('<param name="controller" value="true">');
    document.write('<embed id="quicktimePlayer" width="320" height="255" src="" pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/" type="video/quicktime" controller="true" autoplay="true">');
    document.write('</object>');
    </script>
    Are there any plugins that would allow Mac users to view Windows playlists?
    Are there any parameters to place basic controls (next, previous, pause) on an embedded Quick Time player?
    Any help would be appreciated

    You can click on the little triangle that's next to the little box at the top left of the new iTunes. It will give you a drop down box which gives you several selections. One of the selections is "Show Menu Bar". Click on that and you get the bar back that was on the previous version. Then in "file" you can print a CD jewel case list just like before!

  • Trouble with quick time installation

    whenever i try to install quick time the installer gives me the message "there is a problem with this windows installer package. a program required for this install to complete could not be run." i have tried uninstalling and re installing, repairing the installation, installing an older version of quick time, and using the windows installer cleanup program but none of it has worked this problem also occurs when trying to install itunes

    Did you ever resolve this issue with quicktime? I noticed your name is on a lot of the forums that post questions regarding quicktime and itunes updates and problems with Bonjour, so I thought I'd ask you for help:
    I bought a new computer in February with Windows 7. I was never able to get quicktime to work properly and now when my computer tells me I need to update, it keeps giving me error messages:
    "Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools-Download Only and try installing manually." I did that and when I choose Itunes it gives me this message:
    "Service 'Bonjour Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." I tried that thing you suggested on another string of giving myself "permission" under the security tabs. It didn't work.
    Please help -- is this a Windows 7 thing?
