  • Custom scale for load cell

    Hi
I am using a load cell to monitor an impact force. The load cell has a fixture attached to it which results in a non zero output. I am using a custom scale to convert the output from the load cell in volts to force to Newtons.
I am creating a custom scale and applying it to the task. I then want to be able to programmitically tare (zero) the load cell output before testing. However, my code does not work. There are no errors, but the gradient and intercept controls within the while loop do not function. Can anyone tell me why? I am aware that this could be done mathematically but I do not understand why the property node method does not work.
I am using labview 2010 with the latest version of daqmx (9.17 I think). My hardware is the USB-6211 card.
    Many thanks.

    Hi John,
Thank you for a good description of the problem you are facing, as I understand it you have set up a custom scale but it doesn't seem to be functioning as you expected.
I have looked into this for you and have found a few examples which may help with the development of your application, I have also linked some articles for you.
The custom scale will need to be created entirely before the task is created, so any modifications can only be done before acquisition begins.
I hope this information is useful, and if you have any further queries please go ahead and post them and I will look into it for you.
    Thanks

  • Help with data merge from Excel

I think it's easiest to first explain the project...
I am working on a print project that has an excel file containing specific data per person. The data gives FirstName, LastName, Picture, About, Phone, etc. per person (over 100 people) I am making a 3 page InDesign template to generate each persons info.
The problem is the About column of data. The about column contains 2-3 paragraphs of text per cell. These paragraphs need to be formatted as separate paragraphs so that I do not have 1 continuous line of text. When I import the csv or txt (doesn't matter which way I save out the file) InDesign is not reading those paragraph breaks properly and all data after the first cell of About data is missing when I preview. If I remove the spaces in the About cell data it works perfectly.
I know large spaces in comma delimited data often cause problems (I work in prepress) and we usually remove all extra spaces from cells, but in this instance I need these spaces AND I need them to format properly in my InDesign template. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and will likely save me a great deal of work.
    I am using CS2.
    Thanks,
    Patty

I did get your email, and as I posted above, I think Ken's suggestion to use the Rorohiko plugin will be more satisfactory than trying to completely rework your data file (though I don't have a complete picture of the file structure based on the PDF).
In order to get threaded text you must either flow it in as threaded text, or combine the separate frames. Since the plugin will do the latter in a matter of moments, and preparing the text file for autoflow if it needs major revision or is of any great length could take considerably longer (plus you will then need to run multiple find/change operations to re-format the specially prepared text), I didn't pursue asking for a sample of the data file.
Should you decide you want to modify the data, you will need to do something like move it into Excel, then most likely concatenate all of the fields that need to remain on a single line (using a special separation character (~, %, ! or other symbol that doesn't otherwise appear anywhere in your data that you can later change to a tab), leaving yourself with only cells for each individual line, and save as tab delimited text. This should give you a text file that looks like:
    Line1 (tab) line2 (tab) line3 (tab) line4
    Line1 (tab) line2 (tab) line3 (tab) line4
    Line1 (tab) line2 (tab) line3 (tab) line4
    Line1 (tab) line2 (tab) line3 (tab) line4
Place the text file, then run a find change to convert tabs to forced line breaks (not end of paragraph), another to convert forced line breaks immediately followed by paragraph ends (or blank space if that's how it comes in -- I haven't tested to see what an empty cell looks like) to just paragraph ends to eliminate blank lines (I suppose you might also have blank lines in the middle, which would mean running a find change for consecutive forced line breaks with nothing between), and finally one to change your special joiner character to a tab.
This structure will allow you to use a nested paragraph style to format the different pieces of the directory in one operation, but as you can see it's fairly complicated to execute.

  • IMovie and coloured wheel continuously spinning...

Hello! I have an iMac, Version 10.7.5, My memory has got 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3. For some strange reason, yesterday when I was viewing an iMovie that I had made, the coloured wheel started spinning and continues non stop... I have checked to see NO file vault or time machine is on. I don't have many icons on my desktop, and I don't think I have any files running in the background (although I am not absolutely sure).
Can anyone please help me stop this wheel. It only comes up in iMovie and no other application. I currently only have 5 projects so it can't be full. It was working fine a couple of days ago and I have not made any major changes so really do not know what has happened.
Thanks so much for reading this...

You can keep it into one discussion - not start a new after each Q/A
Use the reply button - down to the right
    My next thoughts are
    • FREE SPACE on Main Start-Up Hard Disk
    - I never let this go less than 25GB !
    • If iPhoto Library needs a repair - then iMovie get's into problem
    - THIS TAKES several hours - and Mac needs to be left and working on only this - to get it OK
To me it took about 20 hours last time (>60.000 photos)
    - Close all other applications
    - Secure that Mac has Mains connected if PowerBook or Air etc
    - Start iPhoto - BUT KEEP alt-key + cmd-key down during full up-start
    - Select all from list
    - Do something else for several hours
    • If You feed iMovie Video material in a Video-Codec that iMovie can't use - then iMovie trying to convert it can force it into ridiculous long times.
    - try to use a codec that works or convert material to this
    • Corrupted iMovie preference file
    - trash it
Just Creating a new User-Account - and log into this - can in some cases make iMovie lightning fast !

  • Why are my Tritone colors faded?

    Hello,
I just taught myself how to convert an RGB image to a TRITONE image, but the TRITONE colors look faded (the 2 PMS colors, not the black). Please tell me what I did wrong.
    This is what I did...
    Image > Mode > Grayscale
    Image > Mode > Duotone
Selected black ink & 2 PMS colors
    Image > Mode > Multichannel
Erased the parts of each channel where I didn't want that color
And here are two further questions...
    1. Converting to Duotone forced me to flatten the image. What if I want to quickly edit the image again? Is there anyway to preserve my layers so I don't have to go back to an earlier saved version and convert to Duotone all over again?
    2. What format should I save the file in if I want to import it into InDesign? I was told "DCS file (Single File with Color Composite)," but can I also use TIFF or even PSD?
    Thanks,
    Pablo

I think I just figured out part of my problem. I was converting my color text to grayscale, so it became gray and not black, and that's why it looked faded when I converted it to TRITONE.
Now I can create a TRITONE image that looks correct in Photoshop, but still looks a little faded when I import it into InDesign and then export it as a PDF.
Could this be because I didn't save it in the proper Photoshop file format?
Photoshop only gives me 4 file format options to save in, and InDesign CS4 only accepts one, .EPS
Otherwise I got the error, "This files uses an unsupported color space."
However, there are several .EPS options. I chose "Single File with Color Composite".

  • Check Scan for NI435X and elapsed time doesn't run in loop

    Dear all Labview Experts
    i have 2 questions
    (1) i written program with Check Scan for NI435X (input to no of scan to NI 435X read ) and one with only NI435X read( to read in voltage) with constant input to no of  scan,
the data i obtained is attached in 2 doucments; With Check Scan and without check scan ( the left column is temperature read in ( a formula is used to convert volt to temperature, right column is time)
strangely the program with check scan shows values in negative ==> Voltage read in is 0, strange, why is this so??? and why is there a diff?? Hope u understand my question
    (2) For elapsed time, i want to find the total elapsed time for the whole program as well as individual cases,  there is no "running"  elapsed time or individual running time,
what happen is that when the each case end, the time will jump (e.g. from 0 at start, it will change to 5.35 at end of case) , is there any where to make the time run, i need it because some case required
    c
ondition such as case will move to next after 5 seconds, but if above case happen, the vi will only stop if i put >= 5 rather than just place = 5
    hope u understand,
does it help if i placed the condition as another loop , will it mean the same things
Attach are vi and some doucments, however as my vi contains PID tool kit as will as ni435x ni DC power which cannot be opened if you do
not have these kits.......however mayb u can help to look at the portion of timing as this is the main problem i faced now.........
Hope it is not too confusing for you to understand me...........
i can only attach max 3, the next post i will attach 2 vis...........

    Attached are 3 VIs
1.the first vi is the one with the check scan
    2. the next two vi the only diff is the placement of the where i put the elapsed time and time of each case.........(without check scan)--the first
one is within the big loop, the other outside  big loop -- the purpose i did this is because when i run the vi with the timing in the big loop, the timing does not run continuously but "skip". for e.g. Denature time: from 0 . it jump to 5.15s without showing the running.............
i will attached another 2 vi s in my next attachment
    Hope this clarifies a bit
    your help is really appreciated

  • Dc motor measurements

    Dear ppl.
Need help to traduce oscilloscope voltage readings, to Torque, Angular speed and Back-emf from attached circuit.
    Motor is a 550 watts hand-driller.
A-F mutual inductance, shaft inertia and friction are unknown and set by default.
The other parameters show its actual values.
Should I convert volts to Nm, rads x seconds and Volts directly?
Are those values logicals or outrageous?

    Hello danielsoy
The first thing you need to find is the relation voltage (or current) with Torque. It think there´s is an ecuation that relates current and Torque. Then, knowing the torque and the shatf inertia you can yield the angular aceleration of the wheels. Doing some numeric integration you can calculate the angular speed of the wheels. That´s the way you can approach the problem. With an encoder it would be much easier, cause you can measure angular position, speed and acceleration and with the acceleration you can yield the torque.
Hopefully this information will help you.

  • Sap - j2ee interface (XI)

    Hi,
I have few questions on integration of SAP and a j2ee application.
J2ee application has a JMS server which can receive messages and process the messages--intially tibco used to send messages
We are going to get rid of TIBCO and place SAP in place. We are going to get an work force object on XI bus. now can we put logic in XI bus to convert the work force object into jms message?. if so how to do it?.
Thansk for any thoughts and pointers.
    ~S

    Hi,
    one option can be:
<i>SAP XI needs to be used to create the SAP R/3-J2EE interfaces. Could some one advise me how to proceed on this scenario? Which Adapter needs to be used in this case?</i>
    SAP R/3SAP XI-J2EE application
Here if you are using BAPI from R/3 then you can use RFC adapter between SAP R/3 and SAP XI.
For SAP XI and J2EE application you can use Java proxies.
Here is how you write your Java proxy:

  • Can I use my mac book pro with 120 volt and 240 volt power supplies?  Does the power converter automatically switch, so I just need a different adapter plug?

I got my mac book pro in the U.S., but I will be travelling to where there is 240 volt power.  Does the mag safe power adapter switch automatically, so I just need a converter plug, or do I need a transformer to convert from 240 to 120 volts?  Thanks.

    Hi,
I too bought my Macbook Pro in the US and I live in the UK (its so much cheaper in the US! No 20% VAT!)
The power adapter does work on UK 230v power. You can also get a three pin extension lead (like the 2 pin US one that came with the MBP) for about £3 with free delivery from Amazon UK.
Another tip, whne you are back in the UK, and you are switching from a PC to a Mac, get in touch with your local Apple Shop who run one to one free courses on how to use your MBP.
    Hope This Helps!!

  • How do I Convert a  Tiff image to a jpeg without being FORCED to 8-bit Color?

I am an Artist.  I have High quality TIFF images.  When I convert the tiffs to jpeg it forces me into 8-bit color automatically. (Forget about 32bit - it will not allow me to jpeg that at all)   The only way I can get back to 16bit color is to use the already SMAshed file and bring it up to 16bit.  THIS makes NO sense.  Once the jpeg is smashed, HOw in the world is it supposed to convert up again. ??  Then even though it says you converted the file to 16 -bit , the metadata refers still to the file as 8-bit.
On top of all of that confusion, One picture, for example, when supposedly converted to 16bit,  gets much BRighter then even the original Tiff image.  It looks good on one hand and over exposed on the other.  I assume that is photoshop throwing in fake resolution, am I right?
Am I wasting my time with this imaginary 16bit conversion?
Is there ANY way to take that original Tiff image and convert it to 16bit jpeg without the Default 8bit?  I have been trying all kinds of things.  I even have asked my web guy.  My web guy says that 8-bit is unexceptable for printing, even for web.
Could this have anything to do with my computer and scanner?
    I have the iMAC OS X 10.8.3 (3.2 GHz) 8 GB memory.
And I also have an Epson Expression 10000XL graphic arts scanner capable of scanniing at 48bit color.
This color stuff Really matters!  It MATTERS!  I HAve FINE art files.  I am already losing so much quality with the jpeg conversion. (which I am required to do for SmugMug, in addition to compressing all my files to 50mb or Under)
Anyone who knows anything that could help me would be much appreciated.
    Aloha,
    -Melissa

First of all jpeg is 8 bit only there is no way to save as a 16 or 32 bit jpg, just does not exist. Secondly people print in 8 bit all the time and most if not all web graphics are in 8 bit as that is the only way to view it as there is no 16 bit or 32 bit monitors to view it. All but a few pro monitors are 8 bit monitors.
If you care about the color gamut and want the full range of color that 16 and 32 bit provide, then why jpg? Jpg by its own nature throws out color just to compress, thats why it is popular on the web, because of its small file size not its quality. If you need 16 or 32 bit for anything it must be in a format that supports that color depth.
That being said a jpg image at 8 bit will display 16+ million colors,  256 shades of red, 256 shades of green and 256 shades of blue.
Now here is where I think your bit information is off. a jpg image is a 24 bit image that will produce 8 bits of red, 8 bits of green and 8 bits of blue.
The 8, 16 and 32 are per channel not total color information.
If the overall image was 8 bits, the image would be gayscale.

As noted your power adapter will handle the voltage. You might however need a plug adapter if those county's use a different physical arrangement...

  • Force word to convert doc to docx wen document is open

    Hi,
In my compagny we have install office 2013, we where in word 2003 before.
I'd like to configure word 2013 in order to force doc converting in docx format.
    Is it possible ?
    Is there a GPO ?
    Thank for your answers.
    Regard

I am not familiar with there being a GPO for that but you could accomplish it with a VBA.
    Sub AutoOpen()
    If Right(ActiveDocument.Name, 1) = "c" Then
    ActiveDocument.Convert
    ActiveDocument.Save 'optional
    End If
    End Sub
Put this into a Global template (MyConvert.dotm for example) and add it to Word's startup folder on each machine.
Be aware there are risks with converting documents, and in particular with documents that contain tables. The cells in table contained within the document will change width by an amount measured in the hundredths of an inch. However, even though change size
is small it will effect column alignment if you edit the tables later by adding rows to the end of the table or splitting the table and then adding additional rows.
Personally, I consider this a serious bug as it also happens in XML based documents that were created with earlier versions of Microsoft Word (2010, 2007, and even 2011 for the Mac). When those earlier XML documents are moved to 2013, they are considered
to be in compatibility mode also.
Try a simple test yourself. Start a new document using Word 2010 or 2007 and add a single 3 X 1 table row, From the table properties dialog note the width of the 3 cells then save and close the file. You can save it as either a doc or docx format. Now open
the document with Word 2013 and verify that it's in compatibility mode and check the table cell widths. Now convert the document (File > Convert Document) and check the table cell widths. They will have changed. Now add a row to the the table by selecting
the open paragraph immediately following the table and choose Insert > Table >3 x 1.
The columns don't align do they? Attempting to get them back in alignment is not a lot of fun either, especially if the table is large.
I am trying to get Microsoft to do something about this problem but can use additional voices if you think this is as serious of an issue as I do.
