Hi
Environment                       :  Oracle database 10.2 R2
Operating system              :  Windows server 2003 R2
We have 3 disk partition  and each partition we have put tablespace and another partition index tablespace to perform a database . As per  client requirement now we have to move  Oracle ASM  Please advise same steps how to implement Oracle asm
Kindly help much appreciated
Thanks

Hi,
To install and setup ASM and create an Oracle ASM instance use the following guide.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/storeman.htm#i1012100
To migrate your existing instance to ASM use the following guide:

  • Backup - ASM vs regular cooked file system

    Use Oracle 11g on Linux.
The disk system is ASM. For instance, the FRA is configured based on a ASM disk group +FRA (along withe multiplexed logs and control files).  This is one place for the backup and multiplexing.
Now, I intend to place the multiplexed files also to a second location (disk). For this disk, I have two choices: 1) Use the ASM diskgroup 2) Use the regular datafile (/u01/oracle/oracdata/back).
Good thing about the cooked file system ( I can think) is that I can see the location of the file by going to the file manager and locate the directory of the files, kind of transparent.
For doing so, will it incur the opertion cost in the future? (As compared to the ASM diskgroup, though files somewhat hidden from the view, but Oracle will take care of "everything").
So, any comment on the file system of the second disk? (Oracle ASM vs regular cooked file system).
    Thanks

I suggest you continue using ASM and use the ACFS feature.
From 11.2.0.3 I don't use FRA on ASM only, I'm using FRA under ASM/ACFS mount point.
Oracle Automatic Storage Management Cluster File System (Oracle ACFS) is a multi-platform, scalable file system, and storage management technology that extends Oracle Automatic Storage Management (Oracle ASM) functionality to support customer files maintained outside of Oracle Database. Oracle ACFS supports many database and application files, including executables, database trace files, database alert logs, application reports, BFILEs, and configuration files. Other supported files are video, audio, text, images, engineering drawings, and other general-purpose application file data.
Starting with Oracle Automatic Storage Management 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.3), Oracle ACFS supports RMAN backups (BACKUPSET file type), archive logs (ARCHIVELOG file type), and Data Pump dumpsets (DUMPSET file type).

  • I cannot delete cookies after updating to 9.0.1, also when opened, I have 2 new cookie files that disappear when FF is closed.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled 9.0.1, the same thing happens. Checked my Profile, cookies.sqlite is there when FF is closed or uninstalled. When installed and opened, I have 2 new files, cookies.sqlite-wal and cookies.sqlite-shm, along with cookies.sqlite. Is this the reason I can't delete cookies? Also I have, and have had enabled AdBlock Plus and Privacy Browsing. After updating, I can't post anything to FF Support (this is my 4th attempt, finally used Safari to post) and files under Tools, such as Clear History are accessible, I shouldn't have a History to delete.
    (1st edit)
OK. I reinstalled FF 9.0.1 from Safari, but not directly from Mozilla. I used CNet, now things are working like they should. I have no cookies listed, except the ones I want. Private Browsing is working properly. However, I still have those 2 extra cookie files; -wal and -shm.
    (2nd edit)
I spoke too soon. After accessing sites that I frequent, the 'ad' cookies are back (adbright, realmedia, 247realmedia) and the site cookies are eliminated, not there, gone. Now I can't login to anything and am back to Safari to access FF Support Forum. Do I have a bug? Someone please help, I'm desperate, I hate IE, Safari, Chrome, etc. They have neither the level of ad and pop-up elimination that Firefox has; nor, do they have the level of customization that Firefox has. The 2 extra cookie files, -wal and -shm, are still there when FF is open, and gone again when FF is closed. One more thing I noticed, I have a Chrome Support Application file in my Library. Could the Chrome cookie file interfere with FF cookies? I wouldn't think so, I have Safari, as well, and neither browser has ever interfaced with the other before.
    (3rd edit)
I have uninstalled/reinstalled FF, all of my add-ons and also tried deleting the cookies.sqlite document from the FF Profile file, to no avail. I have counted, there are 14 sites listed in the Preferences>Privacy>Show Cookies pane (no pun intended) and they are all "ad" sites. These sites are also listed as blocked sites in Adblock Plus. Until someone answers, I give up, I don't know what else to do. There was only the one time that the cookies were gone from the Show Cookies pane, every other time I uninstalled/reinstalled anything, they were still there. So, until someone helps me, I'm stuck. The only thing I have not done is deleted the Profile file altogether. That is the last thing I want to do, unless I can save my bookmarks somewhere to move back after reinstallation. If this isn't rectified within a few days, I may just try that, too.

Do you have an extension like TACO (Abine) or TrackerBlock that maintains a set of OPT-OUT cookies?
    * Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-Out (TACO): https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/targeted-advertising-cookie-op/
    * TrackerBlock: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/trackerblock/
    * Beef Taco (Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-Out): https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/beef-taco-targeted-advertising/
If you do then you need to disable or uninstall such an extension.
If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file <i>cookies.sqlite</i> that stores the cookies is corrupted.<br />
Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

  • How to create redlog and control file at ASM in linux RAC

    Hi Experts,
I will to maintance a oracle 10g database at ASM as RAC iin linux red hat.
i am a new person with some question.
nornally speaking, oracle recommadition for oracle 10g database as
create 3 copy fills for control file
create at least 2 redo log with mirror files in system.
    However, I checked find
redlog file is at FRA place +FLSdisk1 and no mirror
control file is at FRA place--+FLSDISK1/
    datebase file at ‘+DATA1/
There are no mirror for relog.
Go to EM, I also could not find place to enter file name.
We use ASM to hold database to support RAC.
Do i need to create redlog file as
    ALTER DATABASE ADD LOGFILE GROUP 1 ('+FLSdisk1/sale/onlinelog/REDO01.LOG','+FLSdisk1/sale/onlinelog/REDO01_mirror.LOG') SIZE 1000M reuse;
my boss told me that ASM is reliable.
Do you need to creat more directory to arrange redlog and control files in ASM for RAC system?
FRA is a good place to store control file and redlog file ?
    Thanks
    JIM
    Edited by: user589812 on Jul 3, 2009 3:03 PM

ASM is reliable but a smart DBA is very careful. If ASM is doing mirroring this is like RAID doing mirroring. What happens if you accidentally delete one copy ... the other one disappears instantly. Not a good idea.
With respect to redo logs you need a minimum of three groups, two members, and one thread per instance. So a 2 node cluster should, at a minimum have 12 physical files.
Not mirroring the redo logs, assuming multiple members, is not as critical.

I cannot log-in to accounts on other websites e.g. eBay, Amazon, for starters. I get messages that I need to turn on cookies. They are on and I can see the cookies in the cookie file but the programs are not making the connections and not finding the cookies. I've found that I have the same problem with Safari and Camino. Could something in the OS be interfering and if so, how can I fix this? The problem only exits on my Mac with OS 10.5.8 On my new Windows 7 laptop Firefox has no problem logging into any of my existing accounts.

  • How to delete archive log files from ASM through Grid Control

    Hi
Anybody suggest me how to delete archive log files from ASM through Grid Control.
    Thanks

It is important to specify both, the oracle version and os version when posting, so confusions can be avoided.
In this particular case, since you are referring to asm and grid control you could be talking about either 10gR1, 10gR2 or 11gR1; but I strongly suggest you to avoid us to be guessing. In either case, you sould go to the maintenance tab of the target database and program a scheduled 'delete noprompt obsolete;' procedure. This will purge the information stored at the Flash recovery area, which I assume you have declared inside the ASM.

  • How to asmcmd cp non ASM files to ASM on a remote node

We have a 8TB database, RDBMS 11,1. on Solaris 10, non ASM. Need to copy the 1290 files to remote node of AIX ASM to prepare for a upgrading to 11.2.0.2.

    Thanks in advance

    1. my previous question is if asmcmd cp can accomplish the task.
    2. RMAN COPY, as I know, will either copy non asm files to ASM files locally, or copy files asm to asm across nodes. which means that we have to do two steps, rather copy the non asm files to a node of asm directly.

  • RAC_OCR and VD files in asm.

    Hi All,
From 11g r2 onwards we can keep OCR and voting disk files in ASM +DG in that case,
    1. if ocr and VD files are in ASM DG then which process needs to start first ? how can we start asm dg first before cluster?
    2. why we need to keet VD files in odd numbers ?
Please give me some link or way to understand this.
    Thanks,

    1. if ocr and VD files are in ASM DG then which process needs to start first ? how can we start asm dg first before cluster?
Oracle Clusterware does not rely on ASM to access the Voting Files because the voting disks are placed directly on ASMDISK (not in a Diskgroup).
Voting files not depend of Diskgroup (with state mounted) to be accessed, does not mean that we don’t need the diskgroup, diskgroup and voting file are linked by their settings.
CSSD identifies the vote disks based on the discovery string in the gpnp profile and at this point after the discovery of the vote disks has direct access to it.
Within the disk header of ASM disks with Voting files there is markers that define the starting AU (vfstart) and ending AU (vfend) for the voting disk.
On startup, CSSD will scan all ASM disks (using the ASM discovery string from the GPnP profile) for these markers once found, CSSD use them without any direct relationship to an ASM instance
    2. why we need to keet VD files in odd numbers ?
You should configure odd number of voting disks because far as voting files are concerned, a node must be able to access more than the half of the voting files at any time (simple majority).
In order to be able to tolerate a failure of n voting files, one must have at least 2n+1 configured. (n= number of voting files) for the cluster.
If a node in cluster lost majority of disk heartbeat they must be kicked from cluster.
To ensure that will lost the majority (i.e greater than 50% of disks) you must have odd number, because you can't lost a half disk.
If you have a even number of disk you can't apply quorum concept and it is not acceptable in a cluster.
