Cookie settings for Google?

When I try to open my G ail account I get this response:
"We've detected a problem with your cookie settings." I have tried "Options" in FF, but I am not seeing what I need to know to fix the problem.
This seems to be the only web site that this is happening to. I can access G mail in IE.
I have Win 8.1, and I had to uninstall and reinstall FF because of unrelated problems, and G mail worked before I reinstalled it.
Please advise.
Bob Burns

You should try to clear your cookies for Gmail to see if that helps.
Go to Firefox button > Options > Privacy > Remove individual cookies then clear all cookies that have "accounts.google.com"

  • [SOLVED] Cookie settings for Arch Linux forum

I really do like the Arch Linux forum.
It is fast, plain and simple; perfect for a distro which is the same
But one thing is bothering me; the cookies.
The arch forum is the only forum for me where the 'new post' colored picture at the left side of the forum parts is not unmarked after reading the new posts.
After I have read all new posts, I do 'mark all topics as read' (the link at the right top) to have this result.
For example phpbb forums do have cookie settings where the forums which are read, automatically turn the 'new post' icon off; it is not colored but the normal color again.
Can it be that some forum settings are not completely right and this should be also the case at the Arch forums?
Hope I have explained it that way you can understand what I mean.

Yes, and it has nothing to do with the cookie (except a session).. at least i hope it doesn't cuz that would just make me twice as glad that we switched away from that horrid chunk of code called phpbb.
And on that note, search around a bit, because this has already been explained like three times.

  • My automatic sign-in and location (eg for news and weather) details do not stick, despite all history and cookie settings being set never to clear, unlike with Firefox 3x..

I can set location on www.bbc.co.uk for local news and weather but details are no longer retained between browsing sessions. I have checked the history and cookie settings and they are not supposed to clear anything. A similar problem exists with a site where I want to stay signed in so that I am automatically recognised in a new browsing session; this does not work. These problems seem specific to Firefox 4 because they did not exist with Fx 3, using the same settings. I have also checked add-ons; disabling them makes no difference.

  • I want to set Firefox to never remember history. When I do this using the tools tab and click okay, it goes right back to "Use Custom Settings for History". I don't want that.

I know how to manage privacy using the tools tab at the top of the address bar, or so I thought. I want to choose "Never Remember History". When I do that, and click "OK", the next time I check the privacy settings, the history is right back to "Use custom settings for history". I don't want this. Also, I don't want to use autocomplete for forms, but I can't get those settings to stay, either. I basically don't want info. stored on this computer. My system was hacked several months ago, by some joker who named all my system folders a racist slur (I reported it to Norton, and a technician had a look at it). Anyway, I want to keep things as safe as possible. Please allow me to delete all my history when I close Firefox. I don't really like Google, either, because they have a reputation for not respecting people's privacy. I don't like that I didn't have an option to uncheck google's toolbar when I installed Firefox.
    Thank you.

    That is probably OK.<br />
You may have changed one of the other history or cookie settings.
If Firefox shows the "Use custom settings for history" setting then that is an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings are not the default to make you aware that changes were made.

  • How do I stop Firefox from removing Internet Explorer settings (passwords, Google preferences etc) every time I use FF and go back to IE?

I have FF 3.6 and IE6 on the same XP machine. I have no choice
re IE6. FF is only there to allow me to access non-IE6
compatible sites. Most sites I use are on an intranet and
    must use IE6.
Typically, if I have to use FF for something, after doing so
my IE6 settings (mainly cookies) for things such as usernames,
passwords, Google preferences etc are lost. This is reproducible
    behavior.

Well, it's doing something - by design or otherwise. The only time the settings for websites I access via IE disappear is after using FireFox.

  • Safari 5.0.5 OSX not remembering cookie settings after reboot

    Hi everyone,
I'm having a very frustrating issue lately with Safari 5.0.5 on my MBP with OSX 10.6.7...
I want to have my cookie settings under Preferences -> Security -> Accept Cookies to permanently be "Only from sites I visit". When I started Safari, and set that setting, it will remember the setting for the entire machines' session. However, if I reboot, or shutdown/restart my Mac, it will revert to the Always setting.
I have tried trashing the Safari plist file under ~/Library/Preferences/, and trashing the associated caches.db file as well, hence resetting Safari, with no success.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreaciated!
    Cheers

    Hi Andy,
I just tried to temporarily remove Safari Cookies, and I'm sad to say the old issue re-occured as soon as the add-on gets uninstalled.
It seems also, that after launching Safari for the first time after a reboot and going into Safari Preferences fast enough before the add-on launches, the setting is still incorrect, but then gets modified by Safari Cookies.
I went and checked my Login Items, but there's nothing there that can affect Safari; the list hasn't changed in a long time. I don't have folders .../InputManagers or .../ScriptingAdditions under Home/Library.
Under .../LaunchAgents, I have the following:
    com.adobe.AAM.Updater-1.0.plist
    com.adobe.ARM.df0ab5bbe6f698196fcc21e3c1e66dcb758bd911f4d637272d9d8109.plist
    com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-<blocked>-SharedServices.Agent.plist
    com.apple.FolderActions.enabled.plist
    com.apple.FolderActions.folders.plist
    com.apple.FTMonitor.plist
    com.apple.imagent.plist
    com.apple.marcoagent.plist
    com.google.GoogleContactSyncAgent.plist
    com.google.keystone.agent.plist
    `
The first three are related to my Adobe CS5 and Acrobat X Pro installations.
Now that I have the add-on which seems to keep things in check, this isn't as high a priority as it was, but I would definitely love to find out what's causing this so I can eventually nip it in the butt!
    Cheers

i have done everything listed here so many times and nothing is fixing this. Made sure cookies were enabled, cleared cache and cookies, made sure Gmail was approved in security settings, and then as a last ditch effort, I disabled all add-ons for Firefox and still no Gmail... I was so desperate that I even re-installed ff-19 and still cannot get into my email account. What is going on here? Any help or small nudge in the correct direction would be much appreciated!

I used the same thing used in the first link 950400...
Firefox > Options > Options > Privacy > remove individual cookies > typed google > remove all cookies > typed gmail > remove all cookies
restarted Firefox and now I can log into gmail...

  • Cookie settings malfunctioning on BT Home page - n...

    Opera browser 11.62
    At https://www.bt.com/appsauth/genericlogin.do
I uncheck "Remember Me", enter name and P/W, click "Change Settings" because I don't wish to have the total cookie experience, just what is necessary, and simply get returned to a blank log in page.
The same happens if I click Change Cookie Settings at bottom right of page.

    The ICO site says
"Consent must involve some form of communication where the individual knowingly indicates their acceptance. This may involve clicking an icon, sending an email or subscribing to a service. The crucial consideration is that the individual must fully understand that by the action in question they will be giving consent."
The text in the BT website popup box reads:
"The cookie settings on this website are set to 'allow all cookies' to give you the very best experience. If you continue without changing these settings, you consent to this - but if you want, you can change your settings at any time at the bottom of this page." followed by 2 buttons "Change settings" and "No, thanks"
To what question does "No, thanks" refer? There actually is no clear question! So to what scenario does it relate? Does it mean: "No thanks I don't wish to accept your website's default of all cookies on"? Or: "No thanks, I don't wish to Change settings" being the alternative choice of button?
Whilst pondering this ambiguity and re-reading the confusing text, the window will disappear (it lasts for just 10 seconds - I timed it). Not only that, but when the popup has disappeared many cookies are loaded, one effect apparently being that on subsequent uses of the browser, the pop-up will not appear. How insidiously stealthy can you get? The pop-up disappears before an informed choice has been made, and presumably BT believe they can then think they can interpret that the user, by the "action" of not taking any action and continuing to go about their browser activity, has "accepted" the default of all cookies enabled? That is hardly an informed full understanding, nor is it the user giving active consent, as the guidelines imply should happen.
I have conducted a test. I opened IE, cleared all cookies, and closed it. Then opened it again and Exported cookies to a file. There were just 3 google ones, 2 wikipedia and "onlinestores.metaservices.microsoft.com". Then I entered bt.com in the URL field. Up came the BT site and the pop-up. I did nothing at all for 10 secs, whereupon the pop-up box disappeared. Then I exported cookies again and found I had gained all of these BT related cookies:

some of which (marked ***) are those that BT say are for targeting advertising and third parties and not necessary for essential operations.
BT says on https://www.bt.com/static/includes/globalheader/cookies/more-about-cookies.html "You can control whether or not these cookies are used". I think that is untrue, because they were planted by total stealth, with my doing nothing at all.
Worse is to come. I then cleared all cookies again. closed IE, opened it, opened bt.com, and as soon as the popup appeared I chose "Change settings" on the popup, which opens the BT cookie choice tool, slid the slider to the minimum (essential cookies only) and Saved. Then I exported the cookies again, only to find that the *** cookies had returned. i.e. those that BT explicitly assure you that you don't get if you choose the essential cookies only. I've double checked this procedure, and noted the time stamp against the *** cookies; sure enough that changes on each cookie by the number of seconds between deleting cookies and repeating the procedure.
I find it hard to believe that BT can apparently get this so wrong. They seem to be defying the ICO regulations, exploiting customers' ignorance, and operating and encouraging an irresponsible approach to security and privacy.

  • What are the settings for yahoo mail?

Have problems receiving and sending mail.
What are the correct settings for yahoo mail?

It used to be that the free yahoo account did not give you IMAP access, only POP3 or webmail. However this may since have changed in view of the fact Google Gmail has offered free IMAP access for years.

  • Calendar sync broken for Google Apps accounts

The Calendar no longer syncs with my Google Apps account; not in either direction.  It pops up the sync notification and reports success, but nothing changes.  I tried removing and adding the account.  This actually broke in 1.2.1, but by the time I noticed, I assumed a fix was around the corner.  1.3.1 didn't help.  I even created a brand new test account using the newly enhanced support for Google Apps.  Mail and contacts work fine, but the calendar won't budge.  Palm, I can give you the test account to play with if you'd like.
My standard Gmail account calendar syncs just fine.  Saw the troubleshooting for standard account calendars and tried playing with the invitation options in my Apps account to no avail.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

#1 is good already.  I tried changing the other differences: Default View was month, Location had my zip code, Automatically Add Invitations was set to Yes.
#2 using network settings correctly had me in Central, but it said Regina, Canada.  Changed it to Chicago and rebooted, but I'm still not syncing either way on my account nor the test account.
Here's the really odd thing.  My Pre has all four of your entires on the test account from the 3rd and 4th.  I just tried creating entries for the test account from both my Pre and desktop, and I'm not seeing any syncing.  I've forced it about five times over the past 20 minutes.
Sounds like we're down to it either being homebrew's fault or something stuck in my launch day profile that would survive a wipe.  I wiped my phone under 1.3.1 to undo a lot of homebrew cruft, but I still can't say I ever tested this in a virgin state.  Enh.  Go ahead and close the ticket.  My workaround is fine with me.  Feel free to keep using the test account for other stuff if you want.

  • Can't set Calendar Alerts for Google Calendar

I have several Google Calendars for my work and personal schedules. I've used Apple Calendar (formerly iCal) on my Mac, and the Calendar app on my iPhone to interact with my Google Calendars for years with no issues.
After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I can no longer set alerts on any Google Calendar events. When I edit a Google Calendar event using Apple Calendar, I can change any field, including the 'Alert' settings. However, when I click to save my changes, the alert settings are entirely removed.
In Calendar Preferences, I can set a default alert that applies to all my Google Calendars, but I can't change the settings for any individual calendar event. If I attempt to do so, then Apple Calendar removes all alerts from the event.
UPDATE: It seems the problem is that Google Calendar doesn't know what to do with a "Message with sound" alert type. You can use "Message" and it works fine (with no sound obviously).

Strange, I am experiencing the exact problems you describe, however it doesn't matter whether the alert is set as "message" or "message with sound".
By default, events created in a Google calendar have an alert of "mesage, 30 minutes before". If I try to change the time, add a new alert, or remove the default alert, inevitably it get's reset to the default state.
Furthermore, If I change the alert using Google Calendar in a web browser, the event in Calendar (aka iCal) doesn't get updated, it stays at 30 minutes. Sometimes I receive the alert an hour before anyway, despite what Calendar indicates. Very Frustrating.

  • Problem in retrieving cookie settings

    Hi there,
I set my cookie settings with
    myCookie.setMaxAge(600) //for 10 min
    myCookie.setComment("....")
The Cookie is retrievable exactly 10 min, after that the .txt file is deleted and the Cookie can't be read out any more. Everything ok so far.
I worked it out to get the settings back with
    myCookie.getName()
    myCookie.getValue()
    myCookie.getMaxAge()
    myCookie.getComment()
in my servlet generated HTML Pages, but only name and value can be read out persistently, as long as the cookie lives.
maxAge or other settings "seem" to be default (maxAge = -1) if I don't ask them in the same Request/Response circle.
    More clear:
Sometimes I get the correct MaxAge back - sometimes not. But still the cookie lives as long as I want it to live.
How long can a cookie be valid, in years? Has anybody experiences? I thought it can live int seconds, so
    31536000 * Jahre (~68)
Has anybody set a cookie for a view years and can say that it is still readable and valid?
    Thank you for answers
    paulina

This still seems to be a problem. I'm also getting -1 when doing a getMaxAge on a valid persistent cookie. Does anyone know of a fix for this ?

  • I have selected "Use custom settings for history" and pressed "OK" but it defaults back to "Remember history", how do I stop this?

I have to enable cookies in order to have an online purchase credited to my mileage account. So, I opened Firefox Tool and selected Options then Privacy. There, I changed "Remember history" to "Use custom settings for history," as, this will achieve what I am trying to do. However, when I press "OK" the box jumps back to the Privacy box and I see that "Remember history" is still the setting. What steps do I take to prevent the Privacy box from defaulting to "Remember history" when I want to change that setting to something else?

The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.
Firefox shows "Use custom settings for history" as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".
"Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a checkmark.
Do you have a problem with the cookies?
You can inspect and manage permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
*Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
*Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
*Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
