Cookies and proxies
I created a free forum (yeah I know, free forums suck) about three months ago and everything has been fine and about 3 days ago me and a bunch of members got kicked out and cannot log back in. It has completely locked us out of the forum. I am the admin and one of my moderators are kicked out. When I contacted the forum tech support they were sure it was my cookies because when I try to login it says I logged in successfully, but then the page reloads and says "You are not logged in" they told me to set it to always allow cookies. It's already set like that. I cleared the Cache too.
Everything they told me to do with the browser settings has not helped. I looked online about proxies but do not understand what to do with that. I'm on an intel based imac, running Snow Leopard and I just downloaded the latest update for Firefox before this happened, I'm just wondering if anyone thinks all these could be the problem?
I went into Safari and did the same thing with no results. I even did it at work on a Windows computer, changing cookies and whatnot and still nothing helped.
Other forum members can get in but about a handful of us can't. For a while I thought it was hackers. I felt like I have done everything I can think of with the browsers and the cookies, I'm at a loss. The forum admins take days to get back to me. Does anyone have any idea if this is an issues with cookies, cache or proxies? Thank you.
If you switch proxies then cookies that you have may no longer be valid, so you may need to remove existing cookies or use a Private Browsing mode window.

If you are having issues turning on Always Allow for cookies in Safari on your iPad, you may want to check to make sure that you don't have Private Browsing enabled, as noted in the following article:

Cookies are small files that contain information useful to a web site -- such as password, preferences, last date visited, etc. You may remove the cookies that you don't want adn since some of them are a privacy issue, many people remove them all.
Cache is just a collection of data downloaded to help display a web page. After you leave a site, much of the cache is left on your computer and is no longer needed. You can always remove the cache because it will be replaced as needed. -
I cannot access the internet the screen is grey, I have tried by using the answer from someone but it does not work...I went to settings, tap safari, then clear the history, cookies, and cache, then turn off ipad. Firefox allows me to get the bank home page through Quicken. But when I try to login, the error message appears saying "cookies and javascript" must be enabled. I have Java on my system, but in Firefox under "tools/options/ I don't find any way to "enable" javascript. I have enabled "cookies".
I have no problem logging in at the bank site using Internet Explorer, but to use it, I have to designate it as the "default browser" before connecting through Quicken. I'd rather keep Firefox as the default.
A bank tech representative was unable to find any commands in Firefox that would deal with this problem, although she clearly had manuals for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. So she concluded that I would have to use Explorer for this operation, since it allowed control of security level settings. She said that in Explorer, security level should be set to medium.
Is there some similar control in Firefox?Firefox uses the same "security level" setting that is set in IE.

I am trying to login to a website and every time I go to login I get a message that says "You need cookies for this site. Please enable cookies." I've checked cookies and they're enabled, I even put that specific website on allow. I searched for information on how to correct this error and did all that it said, yet I still get this message.
I have the exact same problem! With just one website. It's when I have a second account on it. I can sign in with my original (old) account, but not with my new account that I wish to sign in on. I've talked to a lot of people members of the website who have second accounts and this doesn't happen with them, it's only with my firefox. I've done everything I can to enable cookies, 3rd party cookies, no exceptions, etc.
But it must be something to do with my computer because I did the same thing on Internet Explorer and Google Chrome and it's exactly the same. :/ -
I received a 'bogus' email saying I had a virus and to click to scan my entire OS. I did not click - I trashed the email.
I wanted to empty my cache but couldn't find it (OS 8.10.8.5) -- In the main menu, under Safari, the only thing I found was to select preferences, then privacy -- where a window showed an option of removing some or all cookies and other website data.
Is that what I should do or is there a cache somewhere on the laptop?

Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. If it happens again the make sure that you aren't suppressing website colors.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.

Google calendar is getting the error "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." I have tried disabling cookies, clearing cookies and cache but that didn't work.

Remember Login using cookies and javascript

This is an urgent request. Pls reply asap.
I have two jsps one in English and other in french. I need to implement a functionality to remember the username in both these jsps. I have a function written in javascript to check if the "remember me" checkbox is enabled and then remember the user name. But it is not working as expected. It remembers in one jsp and if i go to french jsp all the info is lost.
Can you pls help me? Sample code would help.
I guess the cookie works only for the jsps under certain folder path say en/jsp/.. and fr/jsp/..<html>

I found this link for a similar problem someone had with a Lotus Notes account. I used it to resolve my issue with a different email account (basically followed the same steps, and then looked for the particular account I needed to delete)... hope it helps!

Hi... I am running a dual core, Win7 64bit PC, with Firefox Regular and Nightly on it... I also have 32bit Win XP Virtual PC on the same PC with Regular Firefox... How do I sync all of them to give me the same bookmarks, history, cookies and passwords ???

safari ALWAYS allows 3rd party cookies and all cookies even when set to "block cookies: always" and "from 3rd party and advertisers." I have removed the website data, emptied the cache, reset safari, erased the history and it STILL dumps cookies. (For example, if I go to the usgov weather website only I end up with 11 cookies, the top one being "addthis.com" listed as cashed in local storage. But didn't I just empty the cache... multiple times??? Is my Safari application "broken" or "corrupt." Can the application be renewed so that it actually does what it is commanded to do?

Allowed a guest account and tested that. Lots of cache/cookies showed up for my "guest" that on face value, appeared 3rd party: the familiar "addthis.com" cache and others including a facebook cache and I did not, nor have ever, participated in facebook. But it could be that the "trusted" site my virtual guest visited had a relationship with facebook such that my COMPUTER "friended" facebook even though my guest and I most certainly would have declined the invitation :-) But what I really don't get is why washington post cookies keep showing up every single time. Isn't that the absolute definition of 3rd party cookies?!

On the other hand, when I logged out as guest, all data was automatically deleted, and when I relogged in as guest, it appeared that all the data, including cached data, had indeed been deleted. But when I relogged in as myself, the same old garbage reappeared in the cache and cookie bin. The fact is, there appears to be no such thing as truly and completely emptying ones cache, resetting ones browser, or deleting ones cookies. They are here to stay.
(And, oh yes, I have tried logging out, turning off and on the computer right after performing emptying tasks, etc.)
