Cookies - delete When by default?

I want to: delete all cookies upon
(a) leaving a website or
(b) exiting Firefox.
I want to:
preserve my browsing history.
It looks like:
no way to auto clear cookies upon exit FF,
unless entire history is cleared.
Question(s):
is this option only available for "third party cookies?"
can a total delete of all cookies be done upon FF exit, without erasing history?

There's a selection of Security settings where I'm pretty sure you can achieve what you want from:-
Tools > Options > Privacy > History (Use custom settings) > Clear history when Firefox closes - Settings (near bottom right)

I want to configure Firefox to only accept cookies from a specific list of websites, but my "Allow Exceptions" list is deleted when Firefox closes. (Firefox 5.0)

    @dmcritchie:
''How do you expect to keep cookies for certain sites, if you wipe out all of your cookies when the session ends or you clear the same history through the Tools menu''
If you mean from session-to-session, I don't expect it to keep cookies. That's the whole point. Every time Firefox is opened, I want it to write a new cookie, and keep that cookie until it closes and no longer than that. (Perhaps I should clarify: I don't mean session in the networking sense but rather in the period of time when one starts using Firefox until Firefox closes.) The behavior I want is for it to be able to write cookies when open, but only for specific sites, and then forget about them on close.
I should also mention that your responses are worthless to me because you don't explain anything. For instance, the quote above is ''not'' obvious from your reply of "Make sure you are not clearing cookies". You need to explain this; what is obvious in a reading for you is not obvious for everyone.
Furthermore, how is "Site Preferences" related to "everything on the right-side"? (Not to mention that it's unclear what you mean by "right-side.")

  • Make cookies visible again, so that I can delete the cookies immediately when I am no longer using a website.

Make cookies visible again, so that I can delete the cookies immediately when I am no longer using a website. I recently updated firefox, and I was very disappointed to find that the cookies from sites I visit were no longer showing to me. I am still able to use the sites, but I cannot see their cookies to delete them. I like to delete the cookies immediately once I am done with their site.
Help me to see the cookies again. Thank you

I also wanted to let you know, that I find it incredibly stupid, that cookies are hidden away in a tools menu; when most internet users would obviously prefer to be able to immediately see what cookies are being used, and could then just click and delete them immediately, without having to click 4 different buttons and then delete them. PLEASE MAKE THE COOKIES EASIER TO GET RID OF, BY SHOWING THEM IN THE BROWSER ALL THE TIME. thank you

Pretty much this: I have firefox set to delete personal information (log in to websites) when I close it ... However firefox instead doesn't delete anything, keeps the cookies, and when I reopen firefox I'm still logged in (to websites like facebook). What do?
Privacy settings aren't working even though they're all appropriately checked off.
I think Firefox is saving cookies??

Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
Make an Allow exception for the ones that you want to keep.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"
You can inspect and modify the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences" (Site Preferences includes the cookie exceptions)

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies that have an allow exception.

  • Safari allows 3rd party cookies and all cookies even when prefernces are set to "never allow" with Mac os 10.6.8

safari ALWAYS allows 3rd party cookies and all cookies even when set to "block cookies: always" and "from 3rd party and advertisers."  I have removed the website data, emptied the cache, reset safari, erased the history and it STILL dumps cookies.  (For example, if I go to the usgov weather website only I end up with 11 cookies, the top one being "addthis.com" listed as cashed in local storage.  But didn't I just empty the cache... multiple times??? Is my Safari application "broken" or "corrupt."  Can the application be renewed so that it actually does what it is commanded to do?

    Not using any extensions, Andy.
Allowed a guest account and tested that.  Lots of cache/cookies showed up for my "guest" that on face value, appeared 3rd party:  the familiar "addthis.com" cache and others including a facebook cache and I did not, nor have ever, participated in facebook. But it could be that the "trusted" site my virtual guest visited had a relationship with facebook such that my COMPUTER "friended" facebook even though my guest and I most certainly would have declined the invitation :-)  But what I really don't get is why washington post cookies keep showing up every single time.  Isn't that the absolute definition of 3rd party cookies?!
    forgive my rant.
On the other hand, when I logged out as guest, all data was automatically deleted, and when I relogged in as guest, it appeared that all the data, including cached data, had indeed been deleted.  But when I relogged in as myself, the same old garbage reappeared in the cache and cookie bin. The fact is, there appears to be no such thing as truly and completely emptying ones cache, resetting ones browser, or deleting ones cookies. They are here to stay.
(And, oh yes, I have tried logging out, turning off and on the computer right after performing emptying tasks, etc.)

You can create a compound key of Cat + SubCat (concatenation in a logical column is a quick win) which will render the SubCats unique and assign that as the logical level key:
    SubCat:
    A-Basic
    A-Value Add
    A-High

  • Now getting Google cookies even when "always block" is chosen

Since the last update, I now get Google cookies even when "always block" might be chosen in preferences. I realize I might still get cache under that setting, but I should not get anyone's cookie. I keep fewer than 20 essential cookies and always delete all other cookies I can get from visiting sites.  (would you believe one site I visited dumped over 60 cache and cookies on me just by visiting a single home page?)
Is Google doing evil things and bypassing no cookie preferences yet AGAIN?

  • ALL my emails in my inbox are deleted when I compact . . WHY ???

mozilla ask me if I want to compact, I click yes . . Then, ALL my emails in my inbox are deleted when I compact . . WHY ???

Any time mail disappears from the server, there's a pretty good chance there's some device pulling it off. This can happen even without you intending it to. For example, the default Verizon setup for a long time (and possibly still) configured Outlook automatically unless you were paying attention and unchecked the box during the install.
The easiest way to fix it is to change your password. Once the device(s) can no longer authenticate, the disappearances should stop.

  • Downloads being deleted when Firefox closes

Since the latest update of Firefox my latest downloads are being deleted when I exit the browser. What I have to do to get around this problem is to copy the downloaded files and past them elsewhere before I close the browser. I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it again but the problem still persists. ANy help would be appreciated as its very annoying.

I'm not sure why you wrote above: Cookies - OFF if you were clearing cookies.
Clearing cookies that way also clears cookies (including Flash local storage), so I would have suggest that if cookies were included in that list.
That is why I posted to check in Safe mode because that would be another possibility.
    To summarize:
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
    *do not clear Cookies
    *do not clear Site Preferences
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies that have an allow exception.
*Tools > Options > Privacy: History: [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
Make an Allow exception for the ones that you want to keep.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"

  • Adobe Air Cookies Removed When App Closed?

    Hi,
I have a flex app which I would also now like to offer an Air client for. I don't want to create a new authentication system just for the Air app, I just want to use the cookie/session setup that I already have in place.
The cookies work and after logging in to the AIR app I can make subsequent requests without being asked to authenticate again, the problem is that the cookie seems to be deleted when the client is shut down, meaning that when I restart the air client I have to log in again which is obviously not acceptable for my users.
Is this expected behaviour in AIR and if so, what is the work around?
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
AIR uses the underlying operating system stack for managing cookies. As such, cookies can be shared between different AIR applications and with browsers that use OS stack (e.g. Internet Explorer on Windows).
From the official documentation as well as my experiments, cookies are preserved between application restarts.
I suspect the application uses session cookies for authentication -- these are meant to be cleared when the browser exits and for a good reason (mostly security). AIR clears session cookies when the application closes, unlike some browsers (e.g. Firefox) that don't always clear them.
From what I can tell, you have 2 choices here:
change the authentication system to not use session cookies anymore -- I strongly suggest *NOT* to do this.
write some code in the application to read/write the credentials from another kind of storage when run in AIR, for instance using the Encrypted Local Store. You could do this by inspecting the value of flash.system.Capabilities.playerType (see http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/system/Capabiliti es.html#playerType ). You would have to write some AIR specific code, but it wouldn't require you to rewrite the authentication system.
    Hope this helps,
    Mihai

  • Macbookpro How to remove Cookies? When go to help and clk on how to remove cookies the page is blank?

Juno Email will not download the inbox, Juno Tech says 1st remove cookies. Mac Help has "how to remove cookies" but when clk the page is blank?

What application are you taking about?
Safari has the option to remove them in the privacy or security tab of the preferences. Also try 'Safari > Reset Safari' it may allow you to select an option to delete the cookies.
I don't know what 'Juno email' is. If it is failing in a Safari you may want to try another web browser, like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox?

  • I don't want flash cookies deleted with the rest of the cookies.

Either an update with firefox or adobe flash player now couples flash cookies with the rest. I like having my internet related cookies clear upon closing the browser to help save space and destroy anything malicious, but don't want to have my flash game data get cleared in the process. I've checked the security tab in options, but there doesn't seem to be a way to specify for flash cookies to remain unharmed; it's either delete all cookies or delete no cookies. Is there a way to have my cookie and eat it too?

Let cookies expire when you close Firefox instead of using [[Clear Recent History]].

Look for class .ac-emphasize-text and apply modified rules as you like.
You need to add the !important flag to override rules.
Add code to the <b>userChrome.css</b> file below the default @namespace line.

The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the <b>chrome</b> folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    * Create the chrome folder (lowercase) in the <xxxxxxxx>.default profile folder if this folder doesn't exist
    * Use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) userChrome.css file in this folder (the names are case sensitive)
    * Paste the code in the userChrome.css file in the editor window and make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line
    * Make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as userChrome.css. Otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working userChrome.css.txt file

Flash cookie, everycookie, HTML cookies. Google has trackers all over the internet, they record your computer info and all your searches, ISP's record all your IP traffic and keep it for a year, cell carriers track your location via tower and signal triangulation (even non-GPS/smartphones) and keep the results for 6 months and both turn over everything to governments. In fact Uncle Sammy has NSA backrooms on the Internet backbone capturing the traffic in real time.
