The coolest phone ever would have been N8 with 4GB processor , 64GB memory and 60 MP camera... sold for $400.-500

So you are saying Microsoft should provide each and every function users can come up with and it's no good if 3rd party developers imlement such features? It would seem to me you are the one who is not getting the whole concept of modern day smartphone OS development as we see it today. Apps are an integral part of the whole system and it's not the responsibility of the OS developer to cram each and every little feature anyone wants into the core OS.
Why don't you talk to the developers of an app like volume, tell them you like what you see and that you would think it would be cool if their apps does so-and-so.. This is a user-to-user discussion platform and not a 'talk to Microsoft' forum.
While I get that SYmbian may have has some features some would like to see in their current OS that is not what this is about. I would LOVE to see Windows do things which I could do with Amiga OS back in the day but is that going to happen? I am guessing not ever..

They don't go into the Trash. Unless you have a backup prior to the deletion time it's gone.

Your apps are stored in your iTunes Library on your computer. If you recover the iPad or purchase a new one just re sync your apps / music etc.

HT4236 I lost my photos on my phone. Are they still hidden on my phone? Can I retrieve them?

I lost my photos on my IPhone 5 when trying to learn to sync. Can they be retireved or are they gone forever?

I am not computer savy....I was trying to add some contacts and it would not let me. My grandaughter told me I had to sync phone. I did something stupid I told it to restore to last back up. I got all old contact information. I messed with it until I got my current contacts back. Everything is back to normal except my photos are gone.

Seems like there's a slight change in emphasis in the purpose but in HTML 4 XHTML and HTML 5 the element is valid and has a purpose.

Memory mapped files Are they still used.

To System programmers.
In some of my old code David used memory mapped files in handling huge sets of random points. The code reads in the whole file and then sets flags similar to an async process. The filemapping handles memory instead of using mallocs. the
data maybe stored on the heap or in hte global stack. I went back to Viusal Studio 6 and tried to take out the code as the standard c++ handles a full file read as a char buffer as a void * structure. I found some valloc data types and
then found the newer filemapping routines in VS2013. Plus an explanation of global stack and heap.
Are software developers using file mapping or are they using say vectors to form stl structures.

Here is some typical code in the old C. This is close to the code I used in Visual studio 6. I need to put this in vs2013 under c++ or C++ 11/14. I have guessed the file handle open and size code.

This is the boilerplate for the file reads. Even tried this with text files and parsing the text records. Instead of the mallocs you suggest vector and the scheme of the code remains the same.
For a lidar file the xyz records have grown from 10,000 in the 1990's to 1,000,000 points in the mid 2000's. For this size file 24 M bytes are allocated in one hit. The whole of the Gold Coast in terms of lidar points in 2003 was 110 million
points. It could be more.

I have found that with the Audit COBIT principals and GRC enabling toolsets the "TODAY" authorization administrator gets sucked into enhancing applications for business, implementing projects, re-design old authorization strategies and then of course entertaining the ex and internal auditor on a half yearly basis and donu2019t get stuck into what we learnt for the past couple of years u201CThis of implementing sufficient controls to secure company datau201D. The crits of my story is that the more the authorization administrator gets tasked with continues audits and ongoing enhancements and support the less time are spent to understand what they securing u201C Monkey told monkey do !!u201D
.I have seen out of experience that when new products such as GRC get launched companies move unskilled authorizations administrators into this area and then expect them to implement and get stuck into detail with auditors and audit reports to clean-up historically raised auditing finding. The same resources then get used on parallel running SAP projects (re-implementations) through out their landscape and GRC gets rushed or pushed to the side. 1. You should never ever change the name of your Home icon - that's the short name of your User Account which is a total no-no. (Why don't Apple issue a grim warning when users try to do this?). Check out these old discussion threads which may contain something of interest or help :

2. This needs recovering from - see the first discussion thread (above). Your User Account is being treated as a new one, but your old data should be there - read the discussion
3. You must have been close to a full HD even before this happened? This is inadvisable - you should always have around 10% of your HD free, or at the very least, OS X will start to slow down dramatically.
Hopefully the first thread above will point you to a fix of your problem.

If I open Muse from my dock (grey/silver look), it looks different than if I double click on an existing muse site (opens with a black background and different layout)... are they still the same versions?

The one on your dock is an old version. The darker version of Muse is the newer version. Replace your icon on your dock with the newer one.

HT1766 iPhone photos lost during syncing; are they still available

Today I decided to sync my iPhone 5 and download the new version of the operation system because of warnings in the news about security breaches with the older versions. When I plugged the device in and selected it, I was not presented with the option of syncing but was guided to a screen with two choices: 1) register a new device or 2) restore the device to the settings of the last backup (2/27/13). I chose restore since the device was already recognized by iTunes when I plugged it in. There was no dialogue warning me that restoring means that you will be deleting any new data stored on the phone since the last backup. This is a crucial piece of information worthy of a red flag and warning similar to those you get if you attempt to delete a photo or contact. I proceeded through the restore process; eventually, there appeared an error message saying that the restore had failed. I unplugged the iPhone then plugged it in again. This time, I was guided to the screen for syncing and proceeded to sync apps, calendar, photos (there is no music on the device). When I finished, I discovered that many, many of my most precious photos and the albums I had created to arrange themon the iPhone were missing, although many of them remain. Most of the photos on the iPhone at this time are those that were already stored on the computer in Picasa while many of the iPhone photos I was attempted to save by syncing have disappeared. Is there any chance of recovering these photos, either on the computer or on the iPhone? My Photo Stream option was on for the photos, but most of them were apparently not captured and are missing from Photo Stream on the computer and on the iPhone.

Itunes match has expired and i've lost more then 5000 songs... are they still in the cloud somewhere if i do take a new itunes match subscription?? HELP!!!!

Are screensavers still necessary?

Is a screensaver still needed? I have a Mid 2013 13" MacBook Air. I'm curious if I need to be concerned with using a screensaver. I use one when I'm in public or around others, just to ensure privacy and all. But when I'm alone, can I just turn off my screensaver? Is there a possibility of image retention or screen burn in from not using a screensaver on modern displays?

Though not 'proof positive' I have not seen any such complaint for 'ordinary' led MBPs or MBAs nor have I witnessed any such issue with my equipment. One could argue that it may not be necessary, but then a nice screen saver does have some entertainment value. I can leave it for each individual to decide if they want it or not.

Why are my RMAN backup files still around?

I have a test database that I currently have set up to do an Incremental Level 0 backup every morning at about 03:00.
I also do an 'archivelog backup all' every 4 hours during the day.
My archivelog deletion policy is 'backed up 2 times'.
I have RMAN set up with a recovery window of 8 days (SHOW ALL - seen below).
I have several RMAN files dated 11 days ago.
Question: Why are these files still around?

Whoops!!! Egg on my face! I just checked back in my email logs of the backups and now recall there were some disk space issues around that time that caused the backups to fail and it just so happens that the backups on the 20th, 21st and 22nd all failed.
I should learn to trust RMAN more. It is obviously smarter than me!! :-)

Thanks but it's just my desktop that doesn't see it though. My notebook sees it everytime, even at the same exact time that my desktop doesn't see it. For example yesterday when I was typing up this post, I was typing up the post on my notebook because my desktop didn't see the router. I don't think it has anything to do with the router actually, but I wanted to see if anyone on here has encountered this issue before. Other forums have similar issues but I've tried all of the fixes I found elsewhere and they didn't work.
Any other ideas?
