Cool Job In London

A few days ago I posted asking what had happened to the jobs
forum that Macromeda used to run.
I asked where I might (appropriately) advertise a freelance
job that has come up in the company.
I was surprised to receive zero repsponses from the
community, or from Adobe.
So I'll just advertise it here - if anyone knows what has
happened to the jobs forum please let me know.
We need a very talented, freelance AS2 flasher who: 1) lives
in London 2) wants regular well paid work
3) whose head isn't wedged into his/her arse.
This is a nice job on a well financed long term project. You
will be involved at the top level in a project which
has already attracted a lot of media and industry attention.
To be considered for interview:
You will display a deep (and passionate) understanding of
Flash and all the obvious stuff that goes with it.
You will be an AS2 native. You will know all there is to know
about Flash and video. You will love and
understand Flash Media Server backwards and forwards. You
will enjoy working from home, making
deadlines, sometimes being called at 3am and working on a
global commercial project.
You will take over from our current supplier of Flash magic
(who is of to the South Seas to go diving)
and there weill be a two week crossover for you to get your
head around the (fairly complex) project.
We expect to pay about £1000 a month for a talented and
effecient individual.
(no agents please).

I hope I don't offend anyone by posting a job ad here but
where has the jobs forum gone ?

if they pulled the jobs forum completely - it's probably
because of spammers and legit threads
turning into flame wars. At least that's how I remembered it
being. If you want, I have a pretty
active flash forum over at www.keyframer.com and willing to
post your job for you there - just let
me know.

  • Got a new job, moving to London 5 months into a 12...

So I recently got a job in London from the Shetland Islands.. needless to say I was promoted twice rapidly within my job but now I'm landed with a problem. I'm probably going to moving into an apartment which already has internet while I still have time left to run on my BT deal.
Obviously I thought that I'd be in Shetland for more than 5 months but this whole situation kind of escalated rather hastily!
Is there anything that can be done in a situation like this?

If you mean will BT release you from your contract without penalty, the answer is almost certainly "No". The existing service at the new apartment would not be transferable to you anyway. You could make a private arrangement to pay the  present customer if they were willing, but it might be better in the long run to take your current contract with you.

  • Mail hangs when it receives a report that an e-mail could not be delivered.

    Hi Guys :o),
One bug which is really bugging me is that every time I receive a bounced e-mail report, with a subject line containing words to the effect of:
    "Undeliverable. Return to sender."
    or:
"The message could not be delivered."
Mail is unable to pull any subsequent e-mails down from the POP server.
So I junk the report, and then I delete it.
However, lo and behold, the errant e-mail is INSTANTLY back in my Inbox, plus there's now AT LEAST one copy in my Mail Junk, and also AT LEAST one copy in my Mail Trash.
Round and round I go, junk, delete, junk, delete, but the errant e-mail refuses to go away, and Mail continues to be unable to pull any new e-mails down from the POP server.
Eventually, Mail just hangs, with a spinning disk.
Even a force quit and relaunch of Mail doesn't resolve the spinning disk.
The errant message just sits there, REFUSING to be deleted.
The only way to get round this bug is for me to go up to my POP server, delete the report, and then PURGE DELETE the report - on the POP server !
I then have to go in to my Mac, and go:
--> Users --> Home --> Library --> Mail --> Account --> Inbox, Junk, and Deleted
and then manually drag ALL copies of the report into the trash on the Desktop.
It happens so often (pretty much every day) that I've had to create a shortcut in my Dock which leads straight to the Account folder.
Mail has always been buggy under ALL versions of OS X, but this ongoing bug drives me crazy, mainly because there's NO logical reason for it.
Just because I receive an e-mail message from the Hotmail server, for example, which says that my e-mail could not be delivered, usually because the recipient's inbox is full, or because no such address exists, on paper, that's just another e-mail which Mail is pulling down from the POP server.
However, EVERY TIME I receive such a report, Mail hangs.
I'm reluctant to rebuild my Mailboxes, in case I lose any messages, but I will if you advise it.
Any workaround would be gratefully received.
With best wishes to everyone in the Apple community, especially those on the Infinity Loop.
In particular, I wish Mr Jobs a very speedy recovery.

Quit Mail, Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • Moving home-unknown new address

Hi all, I am hoping you can help with some advice. I currently live up north but have just been offered a job in London. I will be moving out at the end of April and for the first month I will be living in a serviced apartment. I have not yet found a new flat in London and will probably not until after I leave my current flat for good.
This is a very stressful process and, of course, as always, BT have decided to add to the stress. I am currently in a 1-year contract for phone, TV and broadband. I don't want to cancel, I don't want to stop paying, I simply want to take it with me. I’ve just called the helpline and have been told that I basically have no option:
    - I can’t do the “move home” option because I would need to supply the “new” address – which I don’t know yet.
    - I can’t put my current contract “on hold” even if I agree to pay for it while not using it – not sure why, it just can’t be done.
    - the only option I was given was to CANCEL my current contract which, of course, will also mean me paying the cancellation fees. This is not an option.
The only work-around I can think of is to simply not do anything for 1 month and hope that my current flat won’t be rented out quickly. But then I have no guarantee the new tennant won't cancel my landline.
I don’t understand why each time I have to deal with BT, I hit nothing but walls.
    Any thoughts/suggestions?
    Thanks!
    A.

    Hi Keith,
Thanks for getting back to me. I think your suggestion might turn out to be my only solution but but I think this might cause an issue for both myself and the new tennant.
Surely there must be an easier way to do this! All I want is for BT to "suspend" my services - I am absolutely fine with paying even if I'm not using them - and then do the house move as soon as I have an updated address in a month or so.
Has anyone had any experience with this before?
    Thanks!

  • ORACLE OCA and OCP Certification.

    Hi Guys,
I am currently working in TCS BPO from last 2 years and 8 months for Cargo Revenue Accounting.
Done my Accounting and finance graduation.
I am very bored with the current profile I have and want to change the job. (though the place is good)
I am good in Excel and want to make a good career in IT. I want to go for ORACLE OCP and OCA certification.
Since I don't have a IT backround, will it possible to make a good career in IT???????????????? (looking at my profile)
Also, would like to know if it is really advisable to opt for ORACLE OCP and OCA. (looking at my profile)

Being good in Excel probably won't help much in the Oracle database domain IMO . How did you come to the decision that you want to do an OCP (DBA?) ? If that's taken because someone said that DBA job is a very cool job , well, than you should give a serious reconsideration because choosing something just because someone else is saying is good probably won't be something that you would be able to pull for a long duration. Anyways, the best bet would be to attend a SQL course and see if you do understand it and using it, how well you interact with the database. My suggestion would be to do the SQL course and then opt for the Financial application courses from Oracle which probably would suit better for your profile than opting for OCP/OCA. The choice , of course remains with you. Have a read of the Concepts guide at http://tahiti.oracle.com as well.

  • Mac Mail 6 is missing the "spinning wheel" indicator when checking for new mail

Before updating to Maountain Lion, when cheking for new mail in Mail, there was a little indicator ("spinning wheel") next to the Inbox to confirm it was actually working.
Since updating to Mountain Lion, the indicator isn't there. It's not that much of a big deal if it doesn't exist anymore, but it was good to have, and if it's just a setting I need to turn back on, then that would be cool, if I could find it

for who is "expected behavior"?????, if you have 6 mails account with different domain or private domains this is NOT an expected behavior... why? this missing indicator work to know if your site or email client is up or down or slow, ok maybe a lot of people don't use this but, don't take desicions like microsoft!!!... looks like some ex-employee from microsoft has a very cool job on apple right now
i don't know who did "This solved my questionRe: Mac Mail 6 is missing the "spinning wheel" indicator when checking for new mail"
you need to remove that... Take another bite to the apple an work on that!!!

  • Would selling cool iPhone cases on eBay be a good ieda im 16 im trying to create a job for my self becasue times are hard

selling cool iPhone cases a good ieda?

While it sounds like a good idea, you will have an incredible amount of competition as anyone can go anywhere to buy an iPhone case. You would have to advertise your business and explain why someone would want to buy from you rather than Best Buy, RadioShack, or any other place where they can pick up a case in an afternoon and not have to wait for it to be shipped. Keep up the business spirit. Maybe look for something you can where you live. Offer a service of some type. Good luck with your search.

  • Ok... so iOS5 has brought some cool (and useful) new features.... good job.  However, moving forward I would like to see even more "holding faith" with the overall philosophy of lots of devices interacting with a single data set.

My first, and perhaps clearest, example here is iMessage.  It's great that I can take and reply to messages on my iPhone and on my iPad as if it didn't matter which device I use.  However, I spend most of my working day on my Mac, and it's a little annoying to have to use one of my other devices to send and receive messages when my most powerful device (my Mac) is right there under my finger tips.  I'm an iChat user, which has some great functionality, but of course it doesn't integrate with iMessage in anyway or Facetime for that matter, even though you can effectively do a "Facetime" call on iChat if the other person has the appropriate user account.
So my question/suggestion is - I wonder if there's a way of bringing iChat, iMessage, Facetime etc... all into harmony so that messages, video chatting, screen sharing etc... is dealt with under a single application.  I accept you may have it so that there is more functionality on, say, your Mac (e.g. screen sharing).  But the integration would still be helpful I think.
Any thoughts (with the hope that Apple will also see these comments/answers/suggestions and take it as food for thought on product development)?
Incidentally, and also for Apple's benefit, please don't read this message as as meaning that I don't like what's already been done!  It's great and I think it really is moving in the right direction.  It's just that there's still room for improvement.
    Rob

Thanks for responding Wes.  I've pasted the confusing text from that website referenced in my original post below:
    Ingest movie clips
You can ingest entire movie clips or a selected portion of the movie clips (partial ingest). You can also transcode the selected movie clips using more than one encoding option.
Select File > Ingest. Alternatively, press Ctrl+I (Win) or Cmd+I (Mac OS).
Navigate to the folder containing media, and click the folder. The contents of the folder are displayed in the center panel.
Tip: To access folders from which you previously ingested content, use the menu above the panel.
Do the following based on your requirements:
To view content as Thumbnails, click the Icon View button.
To view content as a list, click the List View button.
To quickly preview the contents of a movie clip, drag the cursor across the thumbnail. You can also click the thumbnail and use the playhead to scrub the movie. Alternatively, use the JKL keys to control playback of the selected thumbnail.
To change the thumbnail size of movie clips in the panel, use the Zoom slide bar.

  • My New Job...

    Bit off topic this but...
I have just got a job that was described as a software developers position, and I got it on the strength of my java skills, and the marks I got at uni. However, after my 1st day (yesterday) working solely with ASP, they were reluctant to give me any assurance that I would ever work with Java at their company. They are quite a small company (maybe 3 or 4 dev's), and I get the impression they hired me as a junior not to mentor and train me, but to pay me peanuts until i quit (this might not be true i suppose). I am assured a pay increase after three months but they won't give me a firm date for review. I didn't know any VBScript beforehand, but I was dropped in at the deep end and asked to code something reasonably complex without any reference materials... and I had to butcher someone elses code to find out how it worked. This was actually quite enjoyable, as I like a challenge, but VBScript seems a little bit crap compared to more heavyweight langs like Java (I have used Java JSP's and servlets a lot).
I don't really know why I am writing this, maybe just to get some feedback on whether this is normal for a junior position. Thing is, I like working with Java and I want to work on more varied stuff, and learn more about it. I don't have anything against web stuff, I just want to work on bigger projects too. The idea of bashing out only ASPs every day doesn't inspire me at all. I would love to learn about CORBA and systems integration (legacy etc.), I want to expand my UNIX skills and I want to get a lot more experience with core java and J2EE. Should I stick it out, even though they are unlikely to go in the direction I want to go in (they are pure Microsoft through and through... the senior programmer thought I was weird for having worked with Apache, Tomcat and UNIX through choice)?
I just want more out of a job... is it too early though? I don't want to waste time, I'd like to get right into a career straight off (I am 26), and I want to work long hours and learn loads. I get the feeling I would be treading water at this place till I go elsewhere. I guess I started worrying when they said to me that I might be too ambitious for them! Alarm bells started going off a bit when they said that; as I think it says more about them than me... Also, they asked me if I am any good with Flash, which makes me think they only really want a web designer... and thats not really my thing.
What do people think I should do?
    cheers in advance!

cool. I think I will take heed of all of your advice! I will stick it out for a bit anyway as if i were to jack it after a week then i prob won't get paid at all! If something comes of either of the 2 others then I will tell then I have to give notice to make sure I work long enough to get at least some pay...
And, about COBOL... Java/J2EE seems to be the platform of choice for investment banks these days, there are so many jobs asking for those skills it's ridiculous (in London at least). If you can prove that you are good enuff, they are not so bothered about the level of experience, and in fact they often ask for LESS than a certain amount of years, as opposed to more! That's what I'm into doing really, I want to work my arse off and get a lot of experience.
The banking job that I am hearing back about is a graduate position with a proper training and mentoring track, starting on about 8 or 9 grand more than I am getting where i am now (although I want the experience far more than the $$$), u can hammer Java out all day, and on top of that you can choose specialities like Oracle, CORBA etc. You can be put forward for certification in whatever you want pretty much, and you get full banking benefits and sweeteners! I guess thats why I'm disappointed with the ASP job...!
    Thanks for all your advice

  • Logic Studio World Tour - London

So, I just got back from Apple's little Logic bash in London this evening. I went along because I was curious, mainly to see what Apple's marketing message was on Logic.
    This largely seems to be:
    a) Logic ain't just for keyboardists or studios - you guitarists can get in on the fun! Look at the shiny amps and plugs!
    b) Logic ain't just for the studio - you live players can have access to all this stuff in Mainstage
    c) And LP9 has some great new productivity tools (flex time, bounce in place, convert to sampler instrument etc etc)
And in tone, it was very much geared towards the average user. For a Pro App, the presentation was clearly not pro-focused at all. This to me is quite a big indicator of how Apple now see Logic. Used by pros, but let's concentrate on selling it to the average guitarey bloke that just wants to lay down some tracks, etc. But look, Lilly Allen and the Killers use Logic! Cool, eh! A shame...
I'm not gonna do a big review, but first up we had a guy called Xander who is the Creative Music Pro Apps director or somesuch. He did a very Apple intro and sales job (yes, the seminar was basically a sales event, really). Next up, to actually do the demo was Bob Hunt, which was awesome to see, because anyone who's been around Logic for some time will know how great Bob Hunt is - he's been with emagic since the early days as an evangelist, demo guy and presenter.
The content of the presentation was largely pretty much what's on the Apple Logic web pages, plus some sales plugs for the usual partners - Apogee, Euphonix etc, playing the videos and demos that are on the website etc, with Bob then demoing some of the new LP9 features and a couple of musicians playing through some guitar & keyboard sounds, then doing a few little tracks with Mainstage. Nothing earth shattering.
I hung around afterwards to see whether they (specifically Bob) would come out and speak to the great unwashed masses (ie us) but it didn't look like that was going to happen. I'd have loved to have said Hi and to also hammer... er, politely question the Creative Music Apps bloke, but Apple don't like to actually engage in much dialog with us wherever possible, alas it was not to be...
For such a "sales-ey" event, I was surprised they weren't even selling LP9 - one guy came out of the demo wanting to buy it there and then, and all the Apple people just looked a bit dumbfounded, as if they hadn't even thought of that. Strange. (Hi Steve, BTW!)
Oh, they also had some other stands - Euphonic had their control surfaces being demo'd by the guy that did the recent mix video on Euphonics site - nice guy too.
So all in all... for me, largely "meh" but I wasn't expecting much more. Well, actually, I was expecting something a bit more, er, "big", but hey, a couple of hours of people talking about Logic once in a while isn't a bad thing...
Awesome to see Bob though. He should be way more visible for Apple, doing Logic tutorials videos on the Apple site, and interacting with the community, because he's such an enthusiastic Logic vet. He "Knows His Stuff" (TM)

If I have 'read' enabled tracks can I drop their base level too as obviously when I lower all the levels those return to their original 'read' levels..
When you have some automation, the fader is basically following what the automation is telling it to do. In read mode, you are saying to Logic "ignore whatever I do to the fader, always follow the automation I've already written". This is why the fader resets after you move it.
Ok, so, in order to trim the automation, we can do one of two things - scale the automation down across the whole song, or just a select portion of it, or use some automation-independent method of trimming our volume.
For the first option:- in the arrange page, command-drag the little yellow volume slider in the track list - this globally scales your automation.
For the other options, either insert a gain plugin in your channel strip, to drop the gain the desired amount, and leave the automation alone. Or you can route the channel through to an aux channel, and you can raise/lower the fader on that to get your desired level, again without editing your automation. (You can even automate the aux channel which gives you effectively a trim-automation workaround, as Logic (STILL!!!!) doesn't have proper trim automation.)
Or you could of course edit your automation, or stick the track into "Touch" or "Latch" mode and rewrite the automation for the desired section.
Have a play with those options, and that should give you a method or two that works for you...

Is it possible to schedule SQLPLUS script with 6 different parameters? If yes then how can I schedule for monday to friday or only for Saturday and sundays.
    Please provide brief steps.
Thanks for your help in advance.
    - Mehul

Let me explain to you about scheduler.
You can schedule a pl/sql stored procedure TEST_S as follows...
    Begin
    dbms_scheduler.create_job(
    job_name=>'MY_JOB',
    Job_Type=>'STORED_PROCEDURE',
    job_action=>'TEST_S',
    start_date=>sysdate,
    repeat_interval=>'freq=monthly;BYDAY=MON,TUE,WED,THU,FRI',
    end_date=>null');
    END;
You can also also execute o/s script like .bat or .sh. For this job type should be EXECUTABLE.
Example of converting a .sql script in .bat script...
    insert.sql
    insert into dept values(50,'IT','LONDON');
    exit
    insert.bat
    sqlplus scott/tiger @insert.sql
    Executing now...
    C:\Documents and Settings>insert.bat
    C:\Documents and Settings>sqlplus scott/tiger @insert.sql

So first read about DBMS_SCHEDULER and do the work in prompt. Then you can go and schedule it even by database control.
