Cool-n-quit/core-center

in CnQ my cpu fan gives me an alarm above 3000 rpm's. Whatever I change in the setup, this won't stop. The fan speed alarm in set to 10.000
Temperature is just 36 degr for CPU and 37 for system
Any thoughts?

Hi everyone. As you can see I'm kind of a newb and I have some related questions. First off some background. I've done hardware installs, harddrive clean formats and swaps, etc. I was planning on building my own computer, but order one from cyberpowerinc.com. I haven't done a profile yet but will after this post so by the time you read this my system should be listed below. Anyway, in the BIOS I had cool and quiet disabled because in the manual it says to check serial numbers of chips before running it, and I didn't want to mess with pulling the heat sink , etc. to check my serial number. This morning while investigating a noise issue (high, varying frequency, buzz) I noticed in Core Center that it was related to CPU fan RPM (low RPM). I then found the program called speedfan, which allowed me to varify this, as Core Center wasn't real accurate. Using speed fan I was able to run the fan at 100% and got no buzzing. Below 70-80% I did though. I then found this thread and realized Core Center could do this (by clicking on Core Center) in another thread. So is the Cool and Quiet mode in Core Center the same as in the BIOS, because I thought if I disabled in the BIOS it would be disable, come to find out Core Center was running it (and causing the bad noise when the fan cycled to low RPM), it wasn't however slowing the CPU speed.
So basically, I hate the buzz at low fan speed, can I just run my fan at max through Core Center? Is there another program that will allow me to run a min fan speed, but cycle say from 100% to 80%? Is it even worth that cycling if only down to 80%? Should I just set it to max or 7/8 manually? Are the BIOS and Core Center Cool and Quiet settings related?
Any info you think will be useful to me, please let me have it. Thanks.

  • K8T Neo, Cool'N'Quiet and Core Center

    Hello,
I have the impression that the "Quiet" part of the CnQ feature (CPU fan rpm control) only works if activated through Core Center.
I have to open this SW, click on Core Center bmp and push apply to lower the rmp of the CPU fan (from 3300 to 2600 rpm).
I have installed K8 driver and set the appropriate power saving mode via Windows XP control panel.
    Mobo BIOS is 1.8.
Do you know other means to make it work without having to go through Core Center ?
Anyone got it working without installing Core Center ?
Thanks in advance for your help !!

I think you need Core Center.

  • Dual Core Center - not worth bothering with?

    Hi,
New to this forum so please bear with me!
Just installed a K9N Neo V3 and upgraded to latest BIOS.
Have installed latest version of Dual Core Center software and when I select the the Silent option withing a few seconds the window pops up and it starts playing a Siren sound like something is wrong. It reports the CPU FAN RPM as quite low - but then I have a Artic Cooling Freezer Pro 64 CPU cooler which controls the speed based on temp.
I cant find any instructions on how to use / configure Dual Core Center. How do you adjust warning levels?
Can you adjust the System Fan Speeds based on Temperature?
I tried uninstalling Dual Core Center and installing the latest version of SpeedFan 4.33 but that wont show any FANs at all on the main screen or config screen.
Are there any other software worth trying?
    Thanks In Advance

The two SYS FANS that I have installed.
Anyways I seem to have solved the problem - the two fans came with Molex adaptors etc so I just swapped the 12v & 5v connectors round and connected them to the PSU rather than the MB connectors.
Now the PC is ultra queit and still has two fans sucking warm air out - albeit only running at around 900RPM
OK... I'D Like to Understand, If those fans came with Molex Adaptors, How did you Connect them to the Mainboard in first Place?
Now this is How I modded 2 X 12mm FANS that were Molex and came along with my Case.
Chopped off a 3 Pin cable from Old Cpu Cooler That was not being used, Insert the 3 Pin Cable into one of the Fans Molex Adapter as an extension. Because the molex connectors on these fans are Usable via Male/Female, simply connect The 2nd Fan to the 1st one and hooked it up to My Fan Controller, now I have the Ability to control 2 fans on 1 Knob, and I Do Wick them both up to keep My System cool under Load. The Fan Controller is the reason I needed them on a 3 Pin, could easily use both fans on One 5V ZM-MC1 connector just the same.

  • Alarm going off in core center

I have an alarm going off in core center Theres a red arrow next to wherer it says 12 v. then in the white box it says 10.95 v  any one know what it means and what I could do about it I don't know whats normal for the readings I get in core center. My pc has been locking up and certian games wont load unless it's really cool in the room.

Good questions! Some folks have acceptable readings with CoreCenter, by verifying them with the Hardware Monitor (in BIOS). I compared them with my SpeedFan program, and as far as temps go..I use a laser temp gun to check CPU, case, and video card temps. Voltages on the PSU can be verified with a voltmeter of course. The specifications on your NB fan should be in your manual. Or you can check out this thread at Anandtech:

is that ok with you Sir?
It's your pc, not mine. So, yes, it is alright with me. I don't bother when people mess up things for themselves. We're always here to help things get on the road again... and we're happy to do it.
Just try to see what I'm telling you: if you do not experience serious trouble, then leave things alone. Also, always try to decide if a program is really necessary or that you can do without it. For example, if you use corecenter mainly as a monitoring tool, I'd advice you to uninstall it and not to install any monitoring tool at all. You can set Cool & Quiet in BIOS and make it work by installing the AMD CPU driver (you already did, I suppose) and set power settings to Minimal power in Control Panel. This way, you system will not overheat and if it does, it will shut down automatically. Corecenter doesn't contribute to these functions in any way.

  • Core Center alternative?

I'm getting tired of the error message "Failed to load hardware monitor driver!" in Core Center 1.6.1.0.  I find that I have to manually load the program, and even then, I sometimes get the same error.
Does anyone know of a good alternative to Core Center 1.6.1.0?  Ideally, I'd like a program that would dynamically display FSB and Multiplier because I use Cool & Quiet and I find such information interesting.  Also, the program would display the temperatures, voltages, fan speed, etc.  Thanks!

Ok I disabled the application, and it seems to work- thanks.  Core center now loads without the error message.
I am curious though... what exactly did I disable?  I'd hate to be without 5.1 channels when I'm playing Battlefield
Audigy 1 doesn't work with K8T Neo, and it seems Audigy2 software causes problems....  Does MSI have some kind of grudge against Creative?

  • O/C with Core Center won't save.

I am trying to o/c with Core Center utility, and it works quite nicely.  However, the o/c session will not save. as soon a I restart, all setting are lost and I have to use Core Center to re- o/c.  Are there any BIOS updates to fix this?
    Thanks.

This is true...Core center...is crap.  Don't use it.  In fact, save yourself a few headaches by uninstalling corecenter altogether.  Dynamic overclocking utilities, overall, are faulty.  Corecenter is no different.

  • Overclocking with Core Center

I am a total noob to this overclocking stuff, but trying to learn more.
I have been using Core Control to oc my mobo. Currently I have an AMD 64 2800 that is running at FSB 245 and a cpu 2205 mhz.
I have not adjusted any voltages, do I need to? What is everyones opionion of Core Center? I have verified the cpu speed with MBM and CPU-Z and they confirm what Core Center says.
Any thoughs on this am I pushing the FSB up too high?

    Well, for a nood that's a nice OC. In order to determine if you need more voltage you need to check for stability. Get a free download of Prime95 and run the torture test on the second setting where it says lots of heat. Speaking of heat, that's more inportant than voltage. You want to check out what temps your are generating under fyll load(ie the Prime torture test. If your using stock cooling you can only go so high before heat is a problem. Adding voltage adds more heat as well. How hot is too hot? That's a question that everyone has their own answer for. I really don't like my system running much over 50c, so low 50's is where I back off. I'm sure it can go well into the fifties without gettig cooked, but I'm pretty cautious. Good luck.javascript:checklength(document.bbform);

  • K8t neo fis2r - core center not functional after installing sound card

Hi.  I had been using Core Center with Dynamic Overclocking enabled and all was well.  When idle, my amd64 3000+ (2.0ghz), was running at 800mhz.  Under load it would go up to 2100mhz.  But yesterday, I installed an Auzentech x-plosion sound card and after i installed the driver, the dynamic overclocking stopped working, my cpu is running at max all the time.  (The variable fan speed function still works).
I checked the IRQ and there is no conflict, I uninstalled the amd64 driver and core center and reinstalled.  Still does not work.  I uninstalled the auzentech driver, rebooted, and cancelled new hardware wizard.  Then the variable cpu frequency feature worked.  Once I install the driver for the auzentech, dynamic oc stops working.  I was thinking to try another pci slot but it appears to be a software issue rather than a hardware issue.  The new version of Core Center does not work with my board even though msi says it's compatible so I'm still using the one that always worked.  The amd driver is the latest and also always worked.
Has anyone else had a similar problem, perhaps using the auzentech sound card with this board and Core Center?  Or does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Hey guys, I just went to AMDs site to get the dashboard utility mentioned and in the readme, it stated that in XP, the power option needs to be set to portable/laptop.  But in the past, I read that it needed to be set to "always on" and that it is, in fact, what I had it set to before when cool n quiet was working.  Now I change it to "portable/laptop" and it works and set to "always on" doesn't work anymore.  So now Core Center reports I'm at 33c @800mhz at no load.   I don't get it???  I'll have to try an alternate utility just to verify that is indeed working.
btw, QV, I checked system properties, (right-click my computer > properties, or "system" in control panel) and on the "general" tab, it indicates an AMD64 3000+, 2.0GHz.  But I'm pretty certain the clock frequency is dropping now as reported by core center because of the decrease in the cpu temp at idle.  Am I looking in the right place in XP?  I have XP pro, SP2
Again, thanks for the input and Happy New Year

  • Core Center Update

I just updated my Core Center from version 1.6.1.0 to version 1.6.2.0 and now the FSB on the Cool & Quiet/Core Center shows 200 mhz where b/4 it was showing 400 mhz. Thats the only thing I did. I double checked the Bios to make sure it was still set to ddr400 which it was. So now what?

I beleive you are getting things mixed up. Core Center should have never shown 400mhz for the FSB. What Core Center displays is the Front Side Bus speed along with the multiplier (x10), not memory speed. So if it was showing 400mhz before (which was wrong), then its fixed now. If your FSB speed WAS running at 400mhz, then you'd be roasting marshmallows over your comp.
Your memory settings do not affect the FSB speed. Even though your memory is rated at ddr400, it still runs at 200 mhz (cpu-z does this), thats because it has to double it in order to run at 400. Thats the whole concept behind DDR. Same thing with ddr266, ddr333, etc..

  • Can you make core center automatically close after being called on startup?

Can you make core center automatically close after being called on startup so it can set cpu fan speed to a slower fixed speed then exit?
If core center really cant do such a simple task then can speedfan or another program?

Quote from: bassmadrigal on 13-July-05, 07:42:36
Why don't you want them running. Speedfan has a very small footprint.
Just seems unnecesary seeming as it does its task as soon as it runs and its changes then stay applied. Speed fan is probably better but core center takes 10mb.
    Quote from: syar2003 on 13-July-05, 07:57:02
You dont have to have it running to set a user specified fan rpm .
Once it's set it is stored in the corecell/cmos chip on the motherboard .(until a cmos reset) .
So to answer your question .
There is no need to have it autostarted at each boot ...
Thats how i have used it .
Only reason to have it running is with MSI's "CnQ" control of the fan , varies with the load of the processor
Thats strange for me the speed resets to default as soon as I restart my pc (about when the bios engages which is however tangibly after the graphics card fan revves up to its full speed). Depending on the temperature of the proccessor it goes to 3300rpm (less than 42c) or 4500rpm (too loud for ~45c IMO and MSIs "cool&quiet" option seems to agree, it doesn't even set it as high as 3300rpm)

  • MSI Core Center problem!!!

I´ve just updated the MSI Core Center to ver 1.6.2.0 because 1.6.1.0 kept increasing and decreasing CPU fan speed all the time, got a bit annoying.
After the install and restart of PC, when Core Center started, the PC automaticly restarted. Only way I can use my PC now is by dissabling Core Center, or going to older ver. but thats not the best solution.
I have passiv coling on NB, but this havent caused problems before, and keeps a normal temp.
MSI, i think u should look tthe Core Center program over, somethings wrong.
Pardon my english (I´m from Sweden).

Please give your signature (computer spec).
Why you adjust the fan speed doesn't it run automatically with 3 pin?
Use CC with not much problem.
I use it for DOT with ver.1.6.1.0 which quit better than 1.6.2.0, this is the only software that can communicate with the COreCell.
    Work fine right now.

  • FSB differs in core center and BIOS...

I know my FSB is set to 200 (the default value) but on CoreCEnter (lattest version) it shows 203... I'm not in a mood to make OC before getting rid of this stock cooler (but that will not be for now) so I wanted to put FSB at 200, I know the differecen isn't much and the system is runnin fine but I simply don't want it...
I have 865PE Neo2-LS and I've disabled DOT in the BIOS (1.5). Do you know what's the problem?
By the way, I just clicked "default" on core center, on the fsb and voltages menu and the CPU just locked-up and a loud sound like PPIIIIIIIIIIIIII wouldn't stop... I rebooted and worked fine but what's the problem?

What you are seeing is the dynamic overclocking feature. If your Frequency setting is set to anything other than "disabled" Core Center will attempt to find an appropriate clock setting for you, based on processor demand and processor temp.
I prefer this to traditional overcocking because it only "kicks in" when I need it.

  • New Dual Core Center "it rocks"

There is a new dual core center on MSI's 975x Power up page http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=746&kind=1
I have tested it quite a bit today .. it rocks...
    Everything works ...
It even recognizes my non-MSI Nvidia video card...
Just take the time to set up your separate profiles and save them, otherwise you will keep booting into MSI's default..
So set up your own profiles...
This is the first time that this application has ever worked properly for me ..
    and it is great ..
    Download it and enjoy...
