Cool Oracle Documentation Tool - Its free!

I found this tool online and I think its great for Oracle developers (especially new ones).
It s a java program that allows you to create HTML page documentation for an Oracle schema (it supports 9i and 10g I think).
I found it very helpful in being able to browse schema objects while writing code - and its works in every OS!
Its not quite as robust as TOAD but this tool just creates the docs. And they are al linked with an index and stuff. Oh, and did I mention it runs on Mac OSX??? cool.....
I downloaded it from www.sqlscribe.com. They dont have much of a site but the link works.

I am looking for Oracle's CASE tool suite for free download like other Oracle softwares. Also the related documentation.
Can anyone tell me the site address.Right now Oracle has 3 official 'case' tools.
Oracle Designer is part of the Developer Suite (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/designer/index.html) is extremely comprehensive, but few bother to learn it properly and many seem to think it is "not best neither ...".
Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/datamodeler/index.html) is the new one, an offshoot of SQL Developer.
Oracle JDeveloper has a built-in UML tool as well as other visualization and documentations tools (especially related to SOA and BPEL), and given that JDeveloper is free that makes this variant the least cost of the three.
There are a lot of other CASE tools on the market, and which one is 'best' depends a lot on what you are trying to accomplish.
For Oracle tools, Oracle Designer is very good if your development platform is ORacle Forms. The built-ins in JDeveloper are excellent if you concentrate on Java, JEE and JDeveloper.
If yo want more discussion around the Oracle tools, go to the appropriate forum.

  • Where can I find oracle.toplink.tools.migration.TopLinkCmpMigrator?

    Hi All
I am trying to find this class so I can start the toplink workbench - any ideas where I can get it ? its not in the toplink.jar as mentioned in the Oracle documentation
    Thanks

From the documentation, it says you have to have
    <TOPLINK_HOME>/jlib/cmpmigrator.jar
on the classpath, which is where the oracle.toplink.tools.migration.TopLinkCMPMigrator class can be found.
This is from the 10.1.3 docs at:

  • Oracle Migration Tool

I recently downloaded the Oracle Migration Tool for migrating a
Microsoft Access database to Oracle8 for Linux. This migration
    tool contains the following components:
    1. Oracle Installer 3.3.0.1.3
    2. Oracle Migration Assistant for Microsoft Access 8.0.4.0.0
    3. Oracle Named Pipes Protocol Adapter 8.0.4.0.0
    4. Oracle Net8 Client 8.0.4.0.0
    5. Oracle Objects for OLE 2.2.2.2.0
    6. Oracle TCP/IP Protocol Adapter 8.0.4.0.0
    7. Oracle8 ODBC Driver 8.0.4.0.0
    8. Required Support Files 8.0.4.0.0
I installed everything onto my Windows98 client machine. Once I
did this, I could see the following entries in my Start Menu
    under "Oracle for Windows95":
    1. Microsoft ODBC Administrator
    2. 004002 Class Library Documentation
    3. 004022 Bound Controls and Class Library
    4. 004022 Control Notes
    5. 004022 Release Notes
    6. Oracle Home Selector
    7. Oracle Installer
    8. Oracle Migration Assistant for MS Access
    9. Oracle Objects for OLE Documentation
    10. Oracle ODBC Help File
    11. Oracle ODBC README File
    12. Oracle ODBC Test
When I went into the Microsoft ODBC Administrator, I could also
see that there was a new entry under the ODBC Drivers tab:
Oracle ODBC Driver 8.00.0400 Oracle Corporation SQORA32.DLL
    12/3/97
    So far, so good.
Then I started going through the Oracle8 ODBC help file to get
my machine set up to start using the tool. Under "Configuration
    Tasks," it says the following:
Before you configure the data source, you must configure Net8
database services, so there is an entry for each Service Name.
To do this, start the Oracle Net8 Assistant, either click on the
Oracle for Windows NT program group and click on the Oracle Net8
Assistant icon or from the start bar select Programs, select
Oracle for Windows NT, and select the Oracle Net8 Assistant.
Using the Oracle Net8 Assistant, you can create an entry in the
tnsnames.ora file for each Service Name. The Oracle Net8
Assistant is installed when you install Net8.
That's when I started running into problems. Although the
installer had shown that Net8 had been installed, I could not
find any evidence of a Net8 Assistant on my Windows98 client
machine. Is there a trick to starting up the Net8 Assistant?
Until I am able to perform this step, I cannot go to the next
step of configuring my ODBC driver.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Brendan,
I am not 100% sure, but I believe win98 is not supported.... yet.
I know that 95 is supported, but to be honest, I do not run
winDOZE. Maybe an upper authority from Oracle should correct me
    if I am wrong.

  • Where is the official Oracle documentation that describes Hot Backup?

I have used the woefully inadequate Metalink search utilities and Google but the nearest thing I have found is a description on "Ask Tom".
I am looking for the official Oracle documentation that describes what happens internally during a Hot Backup. There are a lot of web sites and blogs out there that describe it but I am looking for the description from Oracle themselves. The only things I have found in the Oracle documentation so far is how to start and stop Hot Backup but not what happens internally. Preferably 11gR2 if it makes any difference.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks mseberg. This is what I was looking for. I had read this manual before but apparently glossed over this paragraph:
"When performing a user-managed online backup, you must place your datafiles into
backup mode with the ALTER DATABASE or ALTER TABLESPACE statement with the
BEGIN BACKUP clause. When a tablespace is in backup mode, the database writes the
before image for an entire block to the redo stream before modifying a block. The
database also records changes to the block in the online redo log. Backup mode also
freezes the data file checkpoint until the file is removed from backup mode. Oracle
Database performs this safeguard because it cannot guarantee that a third-party
backup tool copies the file header before copying the data blocks."
Hot backup is still quite useful and Rman doesn't cover all cases. What we are doing with it is using storage-based replication (Shadow Image) to another set of LUNS which we then mount on another server and backup using Rman. This removes the overhead of Rman on the Production Database server and extends our backup window to almost 24 hours.

  • Total Network Documentation Tool

Hi, new to the forums, I hope this is in the right place.
I have a client that is looking to put together a comprehensive bible on their fairly large network; something that will document everything possible.
Can anyone suggest such a product? I haven't worked with Novell in some time and am kind of out-of-the-loop.
    Thanks

OK. Can you tell me a little bit more what you need? "document
    everything" is rather vague.
There are several tools, even free that will document the directory. As
for infrastructure, if you have ZCM then there are tons of reports there
that will give you all your PCs, Users, apps, etc.

Have an idea for a product enhancement? Please visit:

  • ERD & Database documentation tool

    Hello All:
I am looking for a ERD & Database documentation tool for documenting my Databases. The tool should ideally do the following.
    1. ERD
    2. Database Documentation
    3. Capability to do reverse engineering
I want to evaluate Oracle Designer, Ervin and the one from TOAD. Please let me know some other good tool that I should evaluate. Thank you so much.
    -- BMP

    Do the following:
    SELECT DISTINCT object_type
    FROM all_objects;
    SELECT DISTINCT index_type
FROM all_indexesIf you see anything that isn't vanilla stick with Oracle Designer.

    I installed the full
Oracle 11g ODAC 11.1.0.6.21 with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio
now I am at the good old "[ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified]" error.
I copied the same tnsnames.ora as used on the db server
    onto the client "C:\Oracle\product\11.1.0\client_2\Network\Admin".
The host name is right since a normal ping works. TNSping is not available.
but I get the [ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified] error.
The listener is running and the instance as well since it all works on the source server.
    I tried it with

sqlplus works on the other hand when I set it to

  • Need explanation about Oracle documentation (DBMS_LOB.LOADCLOBFROMFILE)

    Hello World,
I try to understand Oracle documentation about DBMS_LOB.LOADCLOBFROMFILE function.
I am not shure the explanation is written in a very good english,
    but i can't understand a word !!!
Is anybody could explain me in more simple sentences ??
    DBMS_LOB.LOADCLOBFROMFILE (
    dest_lob IN OUT NOCOPY BLOB,
    src_bfile IN BFILE,
    amount IN INTEGER,
    dest_offset IN OUT INTEGER,
    src_offset IN OUT INTEGER,
    src_csid IN NUMBER,
    lang_context IN OUT INTEGER,
    warning OUT INTEGER);
    Oracle documentation explanation :
src_csid Character set id of the source (BFILE) file.
lang_context (IN) Language context, such as shift status, for the current
load. (OUT) The language context at the time when the
current load stopped, and what the next load should be using if
continuing loading from the same source. This information is
returned to the user so that they can use it for the continuous
load without losing or misinterpreting any source data. For the
very first load or if do not care, simply use the default 0. The
details of this language context is hidden from the user. One
does not need to know what it is or what’s in it in order to
    make the call
warning (OUT) Warning message. This indicates something abnormal
happened during the loading. It may or may not be caused by the
user’s mistake. The loading is completed as required, and it’s up to the
user to check the warning message. Currently, the only possible
warning is the inconvertible character. This happens when the
character in the source cannot be properly converted to a character in
destination, and the default replacement character (e.g., ’?’) is used in
place. The message is defined as warn_inconvertable_char in
    DBMSLOB.

I am not kidding. I posted the link but I did not check if it were the same source. Really I do not have time to realize it.
I think you can get a fast answer in SQL & PL/SQL forum.
    Good Luck!
    Joel Pérez
