Cool plug-ins in Australia?
To any Australians here;
Does anybody know where I can buy any plug-ins similar to the "Stupendous" range, or any other brand, HERE IN AUSTRALIA? I mean all those Effects, Transitions, etc plug-ins that you can get. If not the Stupendous range, then any other make.
Thanks.
Yes, Karsten, my Grandfather came from Germany. I'll come and visit one day.
I have downloaded some of the demo effects, but since I don't buy things over the Net, I need to know the name of a supplier in Australia. Maybe I'll just have to order them through the local Apple agent and get them sent over from the US or wherever.
Thanks.

Plug-ins Can't get them to work !!
I have searched in plug-ins and read the answers, and got side tracked for about 30 min while i looked at all the cool plug-ins that are available. My problem is that I have installed a few plug-ins and then don't show - Images-edit with-dodge& burn is the only thing shows.
I did not have a Plug-in folder in my Aperture so as instructed I made one. A made one in both the system side HD>Lib>App support>Aperture>Plug-ins; that didn't work. Next I did the same under the user umbrella User>Same as above... in either case no plug-in show up.. I'm confused..
Is there another place for these plugin to hide in! or am I just loopy with all this summer heat....
Current PLus-ins trying to install; Hydra, Iflcker, GettyBe sure the name of the folder you created is exactly correct: Plug-Ins
No spaces, caps on the P & the I. (not positive if the caps matter, but that's how it is in my system).
The Hydra plug in has given a lot of people issues, so I'd skip that one for now, but the flicker should be no issue. You might try downloading something like "DFX" or "Light" which has an actual installer. That may help get your system set up right, then you can add the others. -
Cinema 4D Lite - plug ins for?
Are there any plug-ins for Cinema 4D Lite on CC?
I see on Grayscalegorilla they do lots of cool plug-ins, but they are pretty much too powerful for this version, are there ANY decent plug-ins available to purchase for Lite?
Thanks,
Simon.Okay, the City Kit perhaps, but don't get anyone started on their "shiny plastic" material presets or their Transform plug-in... anyway, it's a moot point. C4D Lite does not support any third party plug-ins because Maxon is blocking this stuff at the core. The want to sell full licenses, after all, you know...

Wide angle correction plug-ins I'd like to see in FCP
It with some frustration I learn how Adobe Premiere's CS3 is beginning to overtake FCP in terms of useful plug-ins. One very useful plug-in in Premiere is "unpop" (not sure if that's it's actual name) that corrects the barrel distortion on wide angle adapters to give your footage a more Hollywood wide angel look, straightening out those curved verticals towards the edges of the frame. That's a plug-in I'd like to see FCP adopt in the next upgrade. Whilst they're at it, why not add PhotoShop's lens correction filter that can remove/lessen chromatic aberration? Anyone using wide angle lens would find these effects filters indispensable.
Unless of course anyone knows of a (cheap!) set of effects plug-ins that can already do these things?
Here's hoping. It with some frustration I learn how Adobe Premiere's CS3 is beginning to overtake FCP
in terms of useful plug-ins.
Such stuff is all relative. Apple is not going to to provide a filter for everything and your need for barrel distortion correction is not anywhere on my list of things to add or to fix in FCP.
There are literally hundreds of plugs available for FCP. All you have to do is invest time to find them, time to test them, and money to buy them.
But there will always be interesting things available for After Effects that won't work in Motion; cool filters for FCP that aren't available for Premiere, stuff you can do in Photoshop that would be silly to have available inside Aperture.

I was so excited to buy, install, and open my imovie for the first time but my excitement was soon deflated. iMovie '08 is a horse of a different color to say the least and I like many other people who have bragged on the easy usage of previous iMovie versions. I will no longer have that option. That is not to say I won't like th new version I will just have to learn it all over again. My biggest issues are these.
1. Not being able to import my old movies into the new program. Question-
Is it possible to take the new movies into the old version of iMovie?
2. The missing audio tracks - I have run a video production afterschool tutoring class for 2nd grade through 5th grade students and I'm not sure they are going to be able to work with multiple programs with ease. At this point I probably will not upgrade the machines they use.
3. Biggest issue - I have invested alot of money in extra plug-ins so that I have more options. iMovie '08 doesn't support them. I contacted the company I bought them from and they informed me that iMovie '08 doesn't support 3rd party plug-ins and asked me to contact Apple and ask them to upgrade '08 to allow this feature. How about it Apple? Upgrade or give me more transitions and title options.
I will reserve final review of the new iMovie until I have had a chance to "play" with it. Thank for any valid input I can get from anyone.Karsten,
Thanks for the update. I am sure it is for the reason I found, that whatever needs to be embedded in the application to allow plugins is not there.
I really think Apple has responded to all those who don't want to make complicated movies with special effects and just want a cool app that can take their movies and ready them for web use very quickly. iMovie 08 is terrific for that.
Look no further than its claim that you can easily store 'all' your movies in iM8, just as you do with your photos.
Now, the idea that you can store up to 250,000 photos in one library is good......huge capacity to put tons of photos in iPhoto.....but, that same thinking did not carry over to iMovie. To have all of my movies in an application would be terrific, but I have about 60 2-hour DVDs of my family's movies so far, and will eventually have over 100 of those, plus other movie and DVD footage.
Let's see.....each movie was about 25-35 GB; already up to over 3500GB! Even compressed, that seems quite unrealistic for me.....
If I use iMovie 08 to store just my video clips from my still camera, that will probably work great since those are short. Right now, they are stored in iPhoto, but I do want to use them in my movies.
I really love making my movies, and I have become adjusted to the foibles of iMovie 6--audio stutters, how its transitions work. It is a wonderful app and I can make terrific creative long movies with it. I love having all the Slick and cf/x plugins to offer me help with doing so.
I definitely am getting a cool new iMac....so I will get iLife 08 and use it all, just keep with iMovie 6 for most of my movies. I think I will really like the new iPhoto and iDVD. Haven't used Garage Band much, but maybe I will now. I think sending video/photos to iWeb looks much easier, so I am looking forward to playing with all these new apps.

VI Search Path not working in LV2011 for VI Server Plug-ins with exe
I have found what seems to be a problem with the search path when a LabVIEW 2011 built executable calls a Plug-in VI.
When the plug-in VI has subVI’s from vi.lib on its diagram the executable has to know where to find them. Not all VI’s in vi.lib are part of the run time engine or the dll’s that may get generated as part of the build. The things you have to do to make plug-ins work for an executable are explained in several Developer Zone articles. The article titled “How Can I Change or Set the VI Search Path for LabVIEW Executables” describes the ini file setting viSearchPath. When this is set to the vi.lib directory I have not encountered problems with previous versions up to and including LabVIEW 2010.
I have come across an example in LabVIEW 2011 where it doesn’t work. I have attached an example (I am using LV2011 SP1). It demonstrates the basic plug-in architecture. Everything works in the development environment. But it doesn’t work from a built exe. I haven’t included the actual built exe in the zip file in case that causes a problem downloading it. If you run the build spec from the src directory project file the exe should get generated in the bld directory. The problem appears to occur when certain VIs from the analysis library are in the Plug-in. In the example attached, the Plug-in VI is very simple but I have placed the troublesome SubVI on the diagram. The VI in this example where there is a problem finding it is the Butterworth Filter VI. I have placed it on the diagram in a conditional disable structure so it is easy to enable and disable. When enabled and you run the test Plug-in VI the error 1003 is raised, meaning a subVI cannot be found in the dynamically called VI (for example see this post). Note that a way round this may be to incorporate the Plug-in VI into the built exe but this shouldn't be necessary. It’s not a problem with this specific filter VI, as it occurs for other VIs I try on the diagram. However if you place an FFT VI on the diagram there is no problem. I suspect that one is built into the Run-Time Engine.
I also note I am running Win7 64 bit and 32 bit LabVIEW (note the relevant viSearchPath in the ini file – you may need to change if you are on different version of Windows). If the example is converted to LabVIEW 2010 everything works as expected for the built exe. I tried that on a colleague’s computer running XP and 2010 but I am pretty sure in still also works on Win 7.
Things I am suspicious of are that the analysis VI’s are part of a LabVIEW library (lvlib) and perhaps something has changed there? I understand there is a problem with OOP in LabVIEW 2011. Perhaps it is related to that as that seems to be an issue in 2011 (see this Discussion Forum post). Perhaps it is related to OS version?
I also tried generating a Source Distribution to extract out all the vi.lib VI’s and place them directly in the Plug-in directory. That didn’t help.
Interested in whether anyone else reproduces this behaviour. In any case something is different in 2011.

LV 2011 test Plug-in.zip 42 KBI found some more out about this issue working with my local NI rep here in Australia. Apparently something has changed in the compiler between LabVIEW 2010 and 2011. Using the viSearchPath token in the ini file, as described in various Developer Zone articles, now guarantees that the Plug-in will not work. The only way to make it work appears to be to create a Source Distribution. I noted in my original post that I had already tried this and it would not work. It turns out that having the viSearchPath token in the ini file when using a Source Distribution causes the error 1003 to occur. When the token is taken out of the ini file the Plug-in (containing an analysis VI) with a Source Distribution works - in the simple example I posted.
Well I then found its a bit more complicated than this. It all worked for the simple example I posted. Recall we found the error when there was an analysis VI in the Plug-in VI. In our actual application (which is a large one) that calls Plug-ins - we still got the error 1003. By trial and error I found a workaround. There are certain Build Spec settings for the calling exe that I set and found worked. On the Additional Exclusions page I found that I had to make sure that I left unchecked "Modify Project Library File after removing unused members". I've always had trouble understanding the need for this setting. In the Build Spec Help on that page it notes that the build will take longer. In most builds you remove polymorphic VI instances, remove unused members of Project libraries and also Modify the project library file after removing the instances (this is a sub setting of the previous). This makes the exe smaller in size and a quicker build time. Obviously modifying the project library caused a problem. In the big application exe calling Plug-in, I probably have the same analysis VI on the diagram (I haven't actually checked and also whether it is the same polymorphic instance) and in the simple example I posted I definitely did not have VI in the calling exe example - so there may be some clue there. I should try putting the same analysis VI on the calling exe diagram in the simple example to see what happens but I'm running out of energy on this one :-(
So none of this gives me much confidence and I wish I could get a better explanation from NI regarding this behaviour to be sure I am not going to encounter a different problem for different calling exe and Plug-ins. I was advised that a CAR would be issued. Perhaps this is now expected behaviour for 2011 but it would helpful if some definitive explanation could be given about what has changed from LV2010. And an update of Developer Zone articles on the subject would be helpful. -
Can you import software instruments and plug-ins from Logic Pro to GB
Hello,
I purchased Logic 7 Pro and I find it to be way too much for me. Is there a way to take the software instruments from Logic to GB? I am not even sure Logic comes with more software instruments than GB. Do they both rely on the Jam Packs for additional instruments.
Is there anything else GB can borrow from Logic. I know I can move the sound effects aif files and use them. Just wondering about other plug-ins and the like.
Thanks!!
Mac OS X (10.4.6)Here's how you get past the static interruption.
Make your software track and ignore the static interruption. Its not being recorded into the midi information.
Then export the track out and reimport it to a new track. Do this twice. Your export/import WILL have static in it but since it was random your two tracks will not have the static in identical places.
Edit out the static in track one by replacing it with a static-less portion from track two. You'll now have a complete loop with no static interruption.
xs4sis. The cool thing about the demos is you don't have to program anything just use the presets. Who CAN program those **** synths anyway?
There are some demos that have a hundred presets to them. I love that! -
I have two 3rd Party plug-ins (Slate Digital Trigger and IK Media Ampeg Bass Amps). Both will no longer work in the new GB 10.0. On top of that, my entire drum tracks are missing that were connected to Trigger plugin. GB stated that theese two will not work and suggested that I reload both. This DID NOT solve the problem for using the plugins and my drum tracks are still missing.

WAVES plug ins not in mixdown- please, please help me!!!!
Hi. Im an experienced adobe user (been using it since it was cool edit). Im now using the latest Adobe for Mac on my MacBook. Heres the deal:
When I go to export a mixdown, any plug in that didn't come with Adobe (such as WAVES) DOES NOT SHOW UP ON THE MIXDOWN. They work just fine in the actual multitrack session, but then just disappear in the mixdown. Ive tried every way possible to mix the file down- time selection, entire selection, Export, Mix to new track- you name it- but the waves just aren't on the mixdown. This is driving me absolutely bananas- has anyone else had this issue? Can someone please help me? Im so desperate for an answer on this that Ill give you some free voice work if you can tell me how to solve this issue! Or send you flowers- something! H E L P M E!!!!!!I'm not a WAVES user but I've noticed some Cubase users (on their forum) have experienced problems with WAVES plug-ins. It might be related. Have you contacted Waves directly? They should be aware of any problems and would be best able to help find a solution.
Good luck. -
Hi.
How do I use third party plug-ins. I've just installed SSL LMC-1 component, but i can't find in the insert pop-up menu on the Logic channel strip.Hi,
I had that plugin, but it no longer shows up under Logic 7.2.3,which is what I'm running now.So I do not use it anyomer,at least until it is updated.
Although a cool plugin, you might want to try either the Free Fish Fillets, which sound better to me,or another pay plugin like the Nomad Factory BT Compressor FA770 which is like the Fairchild, very close in fact.
Cheers -

My head hurts. Why does my head hurt? Because I've been banging it against a wall for the last few days trying to figure out whether I need 3rd party DSP or plug-ins. So, I'm new to LS. Just bought it on the 11th with my spiffy new Macbook Pro 15" C2D 2.4GHz. I bumped up the RAM to 4GB too. Overall, I have to say that LS looks pretty darn comprehensive. I'm an old skool engineer used to working on real H/W (Neve, SSL, Trident, etc....) I've been evaluating things like T.C. Electronics' Powercore, Universal Audio UAD-XPander, Focusrite Liquid Mix, Waves, etc.....So, my questions are as follows: A.)Do I even really need external/3rd Party DSP? B.)Although the UAD looks cool, doesn't look like it's got much horsepower. C.)I've heard fantastic things about the Waves plug-ins as well, but will they suck up a massive amount of CPU juice and leave me out in the cold when trying to mix? and lastly D.)Has anyone used Liquid Mix with LS? I heard the Firewire latency is less than pleasant.
Thanks,
-LaurenceI'll try to answer your questions:
1) Apple tries to make Logic the only program you'll need for recording, editing, and mixing. They attack all the big plug ins with some variation, that is pitch correction is added so you wouldn't have to buy Antares or Celemony. That being said often the plug in is all a company really does, and thus they do it better. But they are not inexpensive. My off the cuff advice would be to get to know Logic very well and only spend money on areas that you find it to be lacking for you, that is, don't rush out to buy an inexpensive convolution reverb and find out Apple had a great one all along. That's actually what made me get Logic- I couldn't find a good reverb at a price I could live with. (I'm poor as the dirt.)
2) Waves makes a great plug in, and if you can afford it, go crazy, you'll find you use them. However you can demo them, or at least the reverb. They are fully functional and stop working after a certain period.
2) UAD is something I have to say I don't know anything about first hand. I've heard mixed things but that's all you ever hear really. I want to know myself how much actual processing power they add, I've heard 1 GHz but then I've heard other numbers too. Do you know they only work with their own plug ins? So if you don't end up liking those, which seems unlikely but still, you're stuck. But another way Logic can use extra processing power is with a "node", that is, another Mac with ethernet capabilities. If you do some serious mastering with your laptop, and your plug ins are draining you, you can farm some of that out to another computer. The Mac mini is what I'm sort of considering for that should I ever end up graduating from school and making some god **** money. And later turning my G5 into a slave to whatever Apple blesses us with in the form of a G6.
I hope any of this was helpful and good luck! -
Recently I have been messing with Topaz Labs Adjust. It has some pretty cool effects. My question is does Topaz Labs (and other 3rd party plugins) add anything themselves to Photoshop (beyond a nice graphical interface) or is it just combining Photoshop's Current tools in a easy to use way to produce the effects?
There are several different kinds of plug-ins, but plug-ins are executable code, and so they generally manipulate image data in their own ways. The things plug-ins do to images are separate and distinct from Photoshop's functions. Basically Photoshop hands the image data to the plug-in, it manipulates it, and then writes it back to Photoshop.
My own commercial filter plug-ins are a good example. I am able to analyze image data and operate on it in ways that Photoshop doesn't have functions for, thus I am able to produce effects no one else has.
